Boss Weakness: Lightning
Airbuster is a unique boss in FF7 Remake in that you can in some ways determine how difficult the battle will be. After the scene in the Reactor 5 Core, you'll have to work your way through a number of security rooms before the fight. In these rooms, you can obtain keycards and use them on consoles to remove certain parts of the Airbuster. There's a choice of three options: M-Units, AI Cores and Big Bomber Shells. The former only grants you items, whereas the AI Cores slows the boss down and limits his stun attacks and removing the bombs reduces the number of times he can use powerful explosives.
Whilst it's tempting to get the items, they're actually disappointing and just more of the same items you can pick up everywhere. Who needs one more Ether when you can stop a potentially lethal attack? You get 5 keycards in total, and the first has to be used on an M-Unit, but the other four are left to choice. It's up to you which you choose, but the Big Bomber Shells can cause far more damage in one hit and the Airbuster's movement range is fairly limited anyway so it's perhaps best to get rid of as many Shells as possible.
You should have picked up the best attacking Materia in the game, Elemental, in Chapter 6, so you will now see how effective it is. For this fight, stick it on Barret linked with Thunder as keeping your distance is the best tactic thanks to Airbuster's propensity to stun those who are in close range. His bullets will do more damage and increase the Stagger further.
Since your party is split initially, this works to your advantage. Always switch to the characters who are behind Airbuster as it'll be concentrating its attacks on the ones in front of him. When it's occupied with one character, hit it with your strongest Lightning Magic (the more characters with this, the better) until it's stunned and then wail on it with your strongest ATB abilities like Triple Slash.
The fight gets trickier in the second part; Airbuster will retreat down the gangway and charge up its Tankbuster laser. Don't try and be a hero now, get out of the way! You'll almost certainly die if hit by this so just retreat down the sides of the T-shape and use the time to heal or hit him with more Magic. This is where Barret comes into his own, as he can keep targeting Airbuster with his enhanced Elemental attacks and whittling down its health. It will then split off its arms which will fire arcs of electricity at you, so target those individually straight away to stop these attacks and significantly boost the Stagger bar.
Airbuster will continue to use Tankbuster periodically, so just keep an eye out and get out of the way. As long as you dodge this attack or quickly get a Phoenix Down and heal on a dead ally, you can continue using the tried and tested methods from earlier in the fight. Once it's very low on health, it'll fire off the Big Bomber attack (if you got rid of as many shells as possible with the keycards, it should only be able to use this once) and likely cause significant damage, so make sure you use any ATB remaining to heal. Survive this and finish it off for good.
Hard Difficulty Tips: This time, there's very little to add on Hard Mode except the obvious fact that Airbuster's attacks hit harder and both Tankbuster/Big Bomber will almost certainly kill you. Its higher HP will be offset by the fact that you can use Elemental-Lightning on both Cloud and Barret to deal lots of damage quickly. Not only that, but again this fight is at the end of the chapter so if you've been wise with your MP you can hammer him with Thundagas to really cause some hurt. Always be mindful of your health and pop a Magnify-Cure if needs be. Barret's Maximum Fury will easily take out the hands and should be your ATB ability of choice in this fight whenever available and you're not healing.

One of the many things i hate about this damn game are the in battle cutscenes and how it interrupts the flow of combat. I swear to Christ I’ve wasted so many limit breaks/ staggers due to a stupid cutscene playing
I think it makes it feel just so much more cinematic and epic. But yes, at slight expense of the combat tech and precision (which I think is a worthwhile trade off)

Those are breaks that reset the stagger and start the next phase. It makes it where you cant skip phases and obliterate bosses. The correct methods will allow staggers much quicker and stop from being wasted. This video however wastes both elemental materia which is important for stagger
@@fathersongaming8515 yeap i agree its done so that you cant do damage to the boss beyond what it needs to go the the other phases... thats why people always advise saving summons, limit breaks(the powerful moves that needs time charging) for the final phase
The most Epic chilling moment in this entire game for me.. summoning Bahumet at phase 3 af Airbuster.. the aerial duel between Dragon and Machine began as the music reached its climax.. no other Bahumet summon felt this perfect throughout the rest of the game.

@@morphadomus2385 yes beat it 2 times on hard. Just barely each time. The extra sweeper and cutter throw you off big time
@@cinthe3 I'm currently working towards the buster himself, the only problems I see during this playthrough is the final boss and some other misc bosses I don't remember the names of atm.
Im currently struggling with this one 😢 I missed the letter on chapter 14 even tho I had all the sidequests done, so Im one Elemental Materia short 😅 Im also not sharp enough to handle all the chars so quickly. I always die at phase 3 bc I have no MP and no ATB. By the end anger and despair it's all I have XD

Great play! I wasn't able to last that long. Therefore I chose the hard way: throw everything and end it quickly.
For this fight. I've barely just cleared, following PowerPyx's guide. I'd rather change Element + Fire Materia from attack on Armour instead because you can only absorb flame attack by him, Airbuster lightning laser will still stun you even you put element with Lightning on armour, and at this stage you should've Level 2 Limit break. It's much more effective on Airbuster xD
What does linking elemental to revival do on armor?
Nothing. Look at the elemental information log, it says it only works with fire, ice, lightning, and wind magic
Depending on the level it will either reduce elemental damage or absorb it for health.

How the hell kill this thing on hard? My team spend 90% of time in stagger after arms separates. No chance to damage/block/heal.
Damn, I'm missing a lot of equipment. I was really struggling in this boss fight.
Travis Exodus beat game on normal first, reach lev 50 next, then go hard mode. Cloud heal, Tina thunder ,Barrett revive spam that throughout game or aerial heal cloud thunder. The rest is straight forward. Material equipment is all the same when maxed.

This is an end game hard mode guide. So ya he's beaten the game, and to be honest if his health is that high he's probably beaten several challenges and chapters multiple times to level up materia.

I really need help with this one. Even with all of its AI Cores removed, I can never get past Phase 2 of this fight. I ought to study this video a lot.
It's best to remove all the Big Bomber Shells instead. They do a ton of damage and Airbuster will still try to use them even if he doesn't have any, giving you a moment to heal, buff or whatever.
How did you get the twin stinger ? I just got to the air buster last night and I’m still rocking the iron blade and not much else equipment

On hard mood I made sure that the BBoomers were on 0 and AI and M (something) we’re both on 2. Beat it on shot. Did get ugly at the end though

Vatthana Chanthavong any replay after your first play through gets you double XP, and triple AP I believe. It’s easier to lvl up. Leveling Materia on the other hand... that takes FOE-EVAA
took me 10 tries to beat this MF.

@@amira8054 yeah probably. If the "couple" of materia doesn't light up it means it has no effect.
You Make It Look So Easy!!!
You should have given more details on materia, equipment, armors, and accessories to use. What's more, in your description you should add the specific details. For instance, what materia Barret had in your fight; then, same story with Cloud, and Tifa. Who should be your healer and if you added Pray or Shakar materia to any of your party members (C,B,or T) so that you can spend your MP on thunder magic. Another point here is that some people like me will need to know if anyone in your party equipped «MP up» or «HP up» materia. If you had a main healer, who was your secondary healer? Well, I leave it up to you to offer a better explanation. Anyhow, thank you for your video, and I gave it a «thumb up» to your video.

Its really not that hard i mean look this guy played this soo poorly and won you can use magic plenty still just dont spam level 3 spells which are useless anyways and use prayer fpr manaless healing and use weapons with trade off so ypu get mp back as you get hit

Regen too. I don’t know why none of these guys making these videos use it but they’ll use straight healing spells.......
For a small amount of mp you get gradual healing that recovers a LOT of hp over time in addition to your prayer/chakra healing. And you should already have your magnify Materia paired with your healing Materia, so you can hit the whole party with it. It’s a huge help, yet none of these video makers seem to be aware it exists.......
Really not that difficult you just have to find better guides that show you more and actually use the available materia to benefit. You dont need max health and you can get cloud 150+mp easily. Prayer is nice and they each have weapons with tradeoff or 50% mp regen boost. Clouds mythril blade actually boost mp regen 50% and lowers the cost of attack spells. Link that with mp absorb and you can spam it if that's what you want. Definitly should have your elemental linked with lightning on you damage dealers
