Erlang Shen conspired with Wukong to "kill him," which freed Wukong's physical form from the headband, which symbolized control of the celestial court. Wukong promised Erlang that there will be a destined one who will bring him back to life. When Wukong became six artifacts, Erlang took the most important "spirit" and hid it in his third eye. Throughout the Destined One's journey, Erlang had been sending most of the bosses we fight as "tests" or "trials", making sure that the new "Wukong" will be competent enough to bear the name. In the true ending, Wukong defeated Erlang, and Erlang gave him the last artifact along with Wukong's memories, essentially "reviving" Wukong, free from the headband and control. Edit: Feel free to correct me, since this is just my interpretation of the story.

honestly, absolutely genius game design. ErLang was by far the hardest boss in the game for me, and the developers were expecting you to feel powerful after finally besting him after who knows how many attempts. And they decided to play in that direction and support that feeling of power you get by giving you a playable cutscene right afterwards, containing what's probably *the* most well-animated kaiju battle I've seen, where you beat the shit out of actual gods with your bare hands.
Erlang covers up the sun when talking with the Destined One, remember when Wukong fights Erlang, he says, "The glare up here is dazzling." Just a cool reference

This game contains a lot of religious elements, which is one of the essences of Chinese culture. You can learn about Chinese Taoist culture and the original novel of Wukong, and you will like this game more.
As I recall the religious figures referenced in this battle are Buddhist deities, originating from the Indian Subcontinent - I may be wrong but I believe the original novel is about 4 companions journeying to India, "the west" to claim a Buddhist Sutra.
@@dewd9327 There are references to Indian Buddhist gods, but they are not quite the same as those in India, and there is also a large amount of Chinese Taoist culture.
Bodisawtwa , Yaksha ,Maithreeya , Buddha and so one , all these are sanskrit words rooted in indian subcontinent. Even in orginal book sun wyukong was humbled by the gauthama buddha. I see plenty of indian , south asian elements in this game , as a south asian buddhist.

10:18 That was a pretty sick move from the King of the South there, knocking you out of your combo. Just goes to show how well-balanced this boss is; they don’t all run in and gang up on you like Elden Ring enemies, but they have a level of cooperation nonetheless. Very well-designed fight.
I love how powerful and badass Erlang Shen is in this game. Charging up his Spear with lightning; calling forth a literal cyclone of swords; firing powerful golden lasers from his third eye; unleashing ominous red lightning while his third eye glows red; summoning the axe which he used to save his mother...it's all so fitting.

This ending is really strange. As Erlang was never a lion in the original story or other Chinese myth stories. However, there were 2 lions in the journey to the west story, one is a monster king who was once a friend of Wukong and the Bull King; the other is another powerful monster king who tried to eat Wukong during his journey to the west.
The magic Erlang and monkey used name is law phenomenon. it will let them turn to very huge and powerful. also will change their looks to red hair, blue face, very ugly and ferocious.
This has to be one of the, if not the best, boss fight in all of gaming history. This fight and the fight with shell wukong himself are absolutely amazing.
Damn, the way that Erlang said "Monkey, such power must be new to you" right at the beginning of the Four Heavenly Kings boss fight just hits so hard. One of the first games I have ever completely watched a playthrough on because it's just that good. *Edit:* Plus, The Destined One reviving at 16:51 caught me completely off guard first time I watched it. Unexpected in the best way possible.
If you complete this fight before fighting wukong. Then this destined one so called wukong's reincarnation will not wear that head band. Where he's finally free and also got his memories back.
The first fight is one of the coolest bosses in gaming imo. I don't know y but he's just so cool. I wish the 4 Heavenly Kinda fight had more to it, like a part where they all gang up on together and just wail on him constantly.
GoW 3 already gave you that.. Kratis slayed all the Greek gods, unless you refer to the soft reboot of the new GoW.. there's nothing new in the reboots that was not fresh in the originals, and the new ones hold nothing against. Technically if that's what you referred to then that would be GoW 6, or GoW Norse myth.
Haha. Some translations have different meanings from the Chinese, such as "你不在的日子,我每天都在想你(I've been thinking of you every day since you were away)"was translated into "I‘ve been thinking of you every day since".
The "Myth" of The Monkey King is filled with so many great lessons. I'm so happy a good game was made to it's testament, And introduces that wisdom to a wider audience. It's truly Amazing
Did no one pay attention to the music in the game? Different boss battles will have different epic music, making me more immersed and enjoying the battles
The mythological context of China (widely circulated on the internet, not entirely consistent with religious beliefs, and those classic novels are not created from a religious perspective): Taoist Avenue is the highest and the origin of all rules. Taoist Avenue gave rise to the Creator God, whose mission was to embody the universe. However, the universe was not perfect at its inception (in the prehistoric era). The first Holy Spirit of the prehistoric era, Hongjun, transformed into the Heavenly Way and established all order and rules within the universe. Although the Heavenly Way made the universe run smoothly, it was a shackle for the creatures born in the prehistoric era. The strongest of them sought transcendence, and the Heavenly Way gave them the opportunity. Eventually, six creatures were promoted to the Holy Spirit, including the three ancestors of Taoism and the two Buddhas of Buddhism, as well as the goddess N ü wa who created humanity. One of the Buddhas was originally a powerful figure in Taoism. In order to compete for the position of the Holy Spirit, he allied (or colluded) with the Buddhist Buddha and betrayed Taoism, but he became the Holy Spirit. As a result, Taoism and Buddhism turned against each other. Buddhism, in order to compete for the position of the first power in the prehistoric era, instigated conflicts among the three Holy Spirits of Taoism. As a result, a divine war broke out within Taoism (known as "Fengshen Yanyi," another famous Chinese myth), which ended and greatly weakened Taoism. Many high-level Taoist monks also switched to Buddhism. The division of power is naturally related to strength. When Buddhism becomes strong and Taoism weakens, it is necessary to divide the power of believers in the human world. The region that originally believed in Taoism was to be opened up to Buddhism, and "Journey to the West" describes this event. The Heavenly Court was originally the power of the Holy Spirit Hongjun, who transformed into the Heavenly Way, but after it left, it was dominated by Taoism. Tang Sanzang was the reincarnation of a Buddhist monk, and the three disciples (including Sun Wukong) who protected him from traveling to the Western Heaven to obtain Buddhist scriptures were all extraordinary figures in Taoism. However, many deployments in the Heavenly Court are opposed to the decision made by the upper echelons, so they secretly obstruct the process of obtaining Buddhist scriptures, which is the reason for many of the 81 difficulties on the journey.
Western media crying in the corner, that they could not render and create something like this... A masterpiece Love from india ❤ To China Asia will support you no matter what 🚀r
The four heavenly kings fight was my favorite in the game, so happy it came without any stress of losing! haha I would have been so mad if I lost and had to redo Erlang.
Fun fact this isn’t aun wukong your playing but the “destined one” in the kang Jin loong boss fight the monk said he recalls your scent and mentions another monkey weeping and begging meaning wukong. Now in the erlang shen fight at 4:32 he says “young monkey show me how you can fight” meaning this a reincarnation or some random monkey. Another clue is that he doesn’t speak.
The most epic battle of Gods ever in the game history. Not often they made games like this where you become giants and beat up extremely powerful enemies where they can create storm with one of their weapon. No offense but I hope God of War can be like this because this is how God beings fight each other. edit: okay i get it that happened in GoW 1 but we never get that again in a future game like Ragnarok
The battle between the Destined One and Erlang Shen is an inversion of the battle between Sun Wukong and Erlang Shen. Wukong and Erlang fought atop the clouds and sky was blue and sunny. Destined One and Erlang fight under the snowy clouds atop a mountain. And at the end of Wukong and Erlang's fight. Wukong complains about the fight and demands they fight down in the woods but the Tightening Fillet acts up and Erlang is able to end the fight. In the Destined One, Erlang is the one who complains about the fight being unsatisfactory and demands they go to Heaven to continue fighting. This time when Erlang tries his finishing blow the Destined One and Erlang become kaijus where Erlang leaves the Destined One to the Four Heavenly Kings where Erlang demanded he alone should fight Wukong. The Four Heavenly Kings stayed out of Erlang and Wukong's fight except for at the end and more or less restrain Wukong with their attack. And tower over Wukong. The Destined one is now at the Heavenly Kings size and while Wukong didn't fight them, the Destined One does before continuing to fight Erlang Shen. And ultimately because of the Tightening Fillet, Erlang Shen is able to defeat Wukong, but because the Destine One isn't subjected to the Tightening Fillet, nothing limits the Destined One allowing the Destined One to defeat Erlang Shen, and to top it off. Winning this fight ensures the Destined One doesn't get bound by the Tightening Fillet. To add on, while Wukong banters with Erlang, the Destined One doesn't. The fight between Wukong and Erlang has Wukong fighting to avenge his people and the music is epic, inspirational, but somber and Erlang is portrayed as an arrogant monster, speaking about how he is going to drag Wukong back to the Court, while Wukong's fellow Monkey Guai are massacred and expresses contempt for Wukong. In the Destined One's fight, the Destined One, one of Wukong's people is fighting to avenge his king and the music is much more serious compared to the mood, but arguably fairly epic, and it ends with the implication Erlang Shen wasn't so bad, but merely playing a part to combat the corruption of the Celestial Court he is champion of as well as help a friend whom he holds much respect for be free of the shackles that bind him, and is ultimately rooting for the Destined One in the end.

@@cedricrenaud5657 Nah, there's actually three so far, Bad Ending, Good Ending and this one, let's see if someone discovers a 4th one.
I do like extra two endings, but I heard from those pre-playing guys invited by Game science only 2 endings. we need to wait the DLC for further story
I think will be more endings-
Erlang Shen conspired with Wukong to "kill him," which freed Wukong's physical form from the headband, which symbolized control of the celestial court.

Damn. Thought it was just me. Had to doubt since I can't see the flag behind the temple.
The version I heard is that Wukong had nowhere to put his tail, so he turned it into a flag pole behind the temple. Erlang immediately saw through him because flag poles are always put in front of the temple.

honestly, absolutely genius game design.
Erlang covers up the sun when talking with the Destined One, remember when Wukong fights Erlang, he says, "The glare up here is dazzling."

The giant form called Fatian Xiangdi
At this time, the altitude of Wukong and Erlang is more than 30,000 meters!
The mythological context of China (widely circulated on the internet, not entirely consistent with religious beliefs, and those classic novels are not created from a religious perspective):
Taoist Avenue is the highest and the origin of all rules.

The most epic battle of Gods ever in the game history. Not often they made games like this where you become giants and beat up extremely powerful enemies where they can create storm with one of their weapon. No offense but I hope God of War can be like this because this is how God beings fight each other.

@@CALI-KING-CFC Few times? When else has this happened other than the ares fight?
