Can you imagine the pitch for this ?
"So let make them the size of a country and have them throw mountain ranges at each other."
Well,I mean, multiple kaiju battles like this happened in the book already
Man he doesn't even need his staff,
Beat them with his bare fucking hands. Awesome
in the legend he fighting against buddha, while buddha palms bigger than planets
Enormous deities are a feature in Chinese Buddhism, not an innovation. It would actually be disappointing if they made the 4 Heavenly Kings human size.
Asura's Wrath and Final Fantasy 16 level of boss battles. Even the vibe is exactly the same
Erlang is the sincerest friend we always wished for, but hardly ever met.
Wukong and Erlang used to be peers when Wukong served in the celestial palace, despite their huge difference in identity (Erlang is the military general while Wukong is merely a "horseman"). The horseman is the lowest rank "celestial official" in the celestial palace but the naive Wukong used to think it was a big deal, until he later found out when he was not invited to the fruit tasting ceremony (apparently due to his insignificant identity), and learned that his job assignment was barely an insult from the lord Yu Di, as the celestials thought Wukong was only a filthy lowlife creature and does not deserve a place in the majestic Celestial Palace.
Wukong got provoked when he found out the truth, he then made a huge mess in the palace, fled away, and paid a visit to the East Sea Palace and took the [Sea stabilizing "pillar"] (or "needle" in its direct translation) from the sea palace which later became his weapon - the infamous monkey king bar. He then declared war to the Celestial Palace, Where Wukong also battled with Erlang (Er lang actually subdued Wukong in the end but it was with the help from other celestial Tai Shang lord).
Er lang's third eye is actually called the [Heaven's eye] which Erlang can break through any delusion and see the truth (kind of like Wonder woman's Lasso of Truth), I guess that is where Erlang learned about Wukong's true nature - rebellious but with kind heart, dare to challenge and protect the average from the unfairness.
If you pay close attention to Erlang's speech and facial expression in the beginning scene, the actions or trials he put on the protagonist and the final words he said to him before pushing him back in the shrine in the "good ending", you will know his brotherly love for Wukong and how he wished to spare Wukong from being controlled (the headband) by the corrupted bureau - Celestial Palace. Wukong is dead but what perished was only his body, his unfaded will and consciousness is retrieved and succeeded by the protagonists through his own journey and Erlang even said his (protegonist) journey has just began.
Lastly, some may ask, if Erlang is all about to challenge the corruption in the Celestial Palace, why didn't he stand up against the Lord Yu Di himself. Well. He is Yu Di's nephew. The oriental mythology largely preserve the characters and virtue value of the east - Filial, unlike the greek mythology - incest and slaughtering within the family (just kidding).
Apologies for my poor command of English (not my native language).
It not just because he is the Jade King's nephew, he has a very strict world view, like captain America
Is there more story for the game to continue in a part 2?
Erlang Shen, if you look at his story, he is more like an upright and responsible soldier, and also a human god with a sense of justice. In the entire Chinese mythology system, Erlang Shen is one of the judicial gods. He is bound by his own responsibilities and morality. The responsibilities undertaken by each person are different, and the results produced are also different.
like you said, mythology preserves the virtue and filial piety of familial ties but duty and the order of the realm should be preserved over the need of corrupted oppression. even the mortal courts are not distant from the idea of incest and killing family members to strengthen imperial power, much less the celestial court where gods live forever. immortality is a form of corruption in black myth wukong. it's just a shame that characters like erlang shen are probably rare.
@@huangshabaizhan326 He doesn't just have a sense of Justice. He IS justice. He is the god in charge of Justice in the Heavenly Court. In Eastern mythodology, the whole world is weaved by countless of threads. Each of these threads is a law governing the world. (it's not laws in the way of human laws but how the world works. Burning wood create fire is a law, water flows from high to low is a law. Things like that). A god who is in charge of something is the one who governs every law related to it and he/she has responsibility to those laws. Not to the court but to those laws.
Erlang isn't very well liked within the court because of that. He governs the laws of justice. So whenever other gods violate such laws, they crashed with him. It's his duty.
I want to remind everyone, that this story was written so long ago that it was basically on scrolls...
How one found this story to tell in this day in age is an absolute testament to their culture.
It's been rewritten and new prints have come out. The originals are long gone
the oldest originals lack of chapter 91-100
Turbulent times have always been hard for any culture in any history. However, JTTW has been preserved over times of peace thanks to the preservation, collection and comparison of archival works (also its scattered fragments, the recitation of storytellers, etc.) by people and historians. Thus, next generations are able to compare the variations of such ancient works and historical texts. JTTW has endured through time. Glad here comes a new interpretation/medium of JTTW and it brings something interesting to more people.
@@M.Bison94no their not, you disagreed just for no reason
@@M.Bison94
What do you mean by that and what evidence do you have to support your position?
So... If i'm to surmise this... the Duel between Er Lang and Wu Kong at the beginning. From the very start, even Er Lang himself had doubt over the righteousness of his mission to apprehend Wu Kong. He couldn't understand why Wu Kong rejected his Buddhahood and immortality. The arrogant demeanour and enmity between them was just bravado, they were simply a clashing of ideas and principles.
...and now, while he did win against Wu Kong in the first battle, in the end, he realized, Wu Kong was the victor: he's now free to live his life: he died, he reincarnated, live, die, then live again, as a new being, free from all forms of shackles because Wu Kong choose to remain mortal. By comparison, Er Lang must remain immortal, forever bound to his duty to the Gods. In this, Er Lang realized, that Wu Kong IS better off than him. And once Er Lang accepted this, he too was at peace - it shows deep down he does respect Wu Kong.
Being immortal must be very lonely.
Imagine losing your loved ones again and again, maybe at some point it becomes meaningless and you stop caring @@Yoirea
Yeah I would go with immortality and divinity lol
Hey, I really thank you for discussing this! I did not understand the ending at all... Also the cinematic could have ended in something awesome
In short, Wukong learning from Journey to the West experience and know that immortality is a form of temptation.
Buddha also against immortality and tell others to stop life cyle is the true goal.
21:43 This part where Erlang shifted the clouds to cover the sun kind of symbolizes blocking out the "eyes" above, from spying on their conversations.
wow, such attention to details
Wow I didn't noticed that! Thanks!
And who is spying?
@@RandiRoman-e2m The Buddha. The sun is the will of the Tathagata Buddha, and as long as there is a place where the sun shines, it cannot hide the eyes of the Tathagata Buddha. Including the beginning of the game why Wukong will suddenly be wearing a gold hoop, but also because the sun is shining over, representing a higher level of God personally, so Wukong just want to change places and Erlang play, gold hoop is also the Buddha to Wukong to bring.

Good news, this fight is in a drawing, so no animals were harmed in this case

How ironic, the game starts with Wukong telling Erlang to fight him on the ground since that's his domain and then in his fight, he tells you to fight him in the sky.
That is not definition of ironic
@@ryunakazawa947Still you get what he means
Wait, Erlang's domain is the ground ?
I thought his domain is the sky ?!
@@Ornzora No, the ground is Wukong's domain.
Well he got defeated at ground, now he asks him to fight him in the sky... Isnt that an improvement and a lesson learned?
Erlang Shen conspired with Wukong to "kill him," which freed Wukong's physical form from the headband, which symbolized control of the celestial court. Wukong promised Erlang that there will be a destined one who will bring him back to life. When Wukong became six artifacts, Erlang took the most important "spirit" and hid it in his third eye. Throughout the Destined One's journey, Erlang had been sending most of the bosses we fight as "tests" or "trials", making sure that the new "Wukong" will be competent enough to bear the name. In the true ending, Wukong defeated Erlang, and Erlang gave him the last artifact along with Wukong's memories, essentially "reviving" Wukong, free from the headband and control.
Edit: Feel free to correct me, since this is just my interpretation of the story.
Isn't Wukong just dead?like...the destined one isn't even Wukong anymore eventhough he got all the artifacts

More details of Erlang might make many people hate him because of his arrogance but the truth is he hated his uncle Jade Emperor more than anything. There are details in the original story that will reveal Erlang personality, after Wukong trapped under the five finger mountain Jade Emperor immediately tell Erlang to burn down Wukong forest and kill all the monkeys but when Erlang get there he just chased all the monkeys into a cave and burnt only a half of the forest
Sounds Like Ares and Zeus
Ok that sounds messed up. Asking for his god to help him trap Wukong and then proceed to kill his kind for only being related to him is just messed up.
So that's why Wukong's relics still exist and there's many Monkeys that still survived.

Strangling a giant with a dragon. Definitely a first in gaming
That sounds so AWESOME!!!
Indeed, it reminded me of god of war lol
So badass.
That Chinese temple where Erlang was waiting in front was a throwback to the original saga when Wukong turned himself into a temple to escape from Erlang and his celestial army. But Erlang managed to see thru his disguise due to his Tian Yan (eye of heaven). Just a fun fact.
Damn. Thought it was just me. Had to doubt since I can't see the flag behind the temple.
The version I heard is that Wukong had nowhere to put his tail, so he turned it into a flag pole behind the temple. Erlang immediately saw through him because flag poles are always put in front of the temple.
Wukong also fart in Erlang face in the 1986 version tv it was so funny hahaha.
You can really tell that JTTW really is the ancestor of Shounen animes. The dynamic between Wukong and Erlang is exactly like the typical rival but brothers, the one who understands you the most but also the one who almost killed u multiple times type relationship. It's that Sasuke, Vegeta, etc dynamic we've all been accustomed to.
Also, how one of them is the loud free spirited kind while the other is the stern, lawful type.
Yes indeed
Tenshinhan is inspired from Erlang
@takedown243 he used to be cool but then Toriyama decided he wasn't good enough anymore :(

honestly, absolutely genius game design. ErLang was by far the hardest boss in the game for me, and the developers were expecting you to feel powerful after finally besting him after who knows how many attempts. And they decided to play in that direction and support that feeling of power you get by giving you a playable cutscene right afterwards, containing what's probably *the* most well-animated kaiju battle I've seen, where you beat the shit out of actual gods with your bare hands.
Not only is this game incredible quality but it's also China's first AAA flagship game, and a truly culturally significant one at that. It's amazing to see how many people have become fascinated with the lore and story of "Journey to the West". It really is one of the greatest literature classics in human history.
It deserves the 10 million copies sold ❤❤
Erlang covers up the sun when talking with the Destined One, remember when Wukong fights Erlang, he says, "The glare up here is dazzling."

Thank you for your dedication, the video is of high quality.
The most epic battle of Gods ever in the game history. Not often they made games like this where you become giants and beat up extremely powerful enemies where they can create storm with one of their weapon. No offense but I hope God of War can be like this because this is how God beings fight each other.
edit: okay i get it that happened in GoW 1 but we never get that again in a future game like Ragnarok
It happened in God of War 1 when Kratos was fighting Ares, both were very big.
Did you play the ever first God Of War game? It was exactly as you discribe the God's battle.
Underage children
That's because you are young, GoW has done it a few times as mentioned already ares fight in first game
@@CALI-KING-CFC Few times? When else has this happened other than the ares fight?
Fun fact this isn’t aun wukong your playing but the “destined one” in the kang Jin loong boss fight the monk said he recalls your scent and mentions another monkey weeping and begging meaning wukong. Now in the erlang shen fight at 4:32 he says “young monkey show me how you can fight” meaning this a reincarnation or some random monkey. Another clue is that he doesn’t speak.
It's not another monkey, lol, it's a piece of Wukong, it's hard to explain.
Anyone noticed he fought without using imoblized spell😮
This ending will definitely take our pc to heaven with Sunwukong 😂.
This game is just like the very first sun wukong movie but so much better.
What i throw at bro when he says,'IS THAT A CELLULAR DEVICE I SEE?' 19:08
「The world is cruel, the destiny is unfair」
I gotta admit that after struggle so bad with Erlang to beat him in the first stage, I was so satisfied being almost immortal and beat him out of shit in the giant form :D
The way Erlang speaks about Wukong sounds like Frieza in the start
this looks absolutely stunning! The level of detail in the visuals and the fluidity of the combat are mind-blowing. It’s amazing to see a game so deeply rooted in Chinese mythology, bringing the story of the Monkey King to life in such an epic way.
Immortality is not a good thing in Chinese mythology or in ancient Chinese folklore. But for emperors, once they pursue immortality, bad things will definitely happen. Similarly, in the Chinese religious system, whether it is humans or gods, every major stage, they will have a major disaster, and everything will start over. This disaster may happen every few hundred thousand years. The three realms of heaven, earth and human beings are devastated.
What a good game!!! Accomplished everything in this game. Looking forward to move content.
9:28 so cool
