- So yes, PS4 Pro is definitely an upgrade. But who's to say we can't take that a step further? Here's how to change the hard drive on a PS4 Pro, AND install the right software. Because I would never steer you wrong. That's why they wrote that one song; "RYAN TAKE THE WHEEEEEEL".

@@piggythegod7828 for the firmware I believe. How else are yiu going to install it on the new hard drive? Aside from cloning the old drive onto the new drive. I just don't see how.

Really helpful. I didn't care about my saves or having to reinstall everything. So I just put my 2 TB drive from my ps4 into my pro and reformatted it.
So all I have to do is put it in there and boot it up or what? Please help

@@gjammer836 nope the hard drives are married to the individual ps4s, they hard drives will work but you still need a usb flash drive to download the ps4 software and the hard drive automatically reformats

Just found this video since PS5s are still in rare supply and I needed to upgrade my PS4 Pro HDD. Well done video thanks for the info!
The power cord twist tie works perfectly, like the red ribbon shown, and it probably a lot easier for most to find, because it's right there, in the box, when one's unboxing the Pro, to change the drive and set things up!

After all these years I finally put a SSD in my PS4 Pro. It used to be in my PC so I was scared to even try to format it, so I left it alone and let the PS4 read it and take over. 9 minutes left to restoring my backup. :)
Hah that's pretty lucky. Every time I tried to reformat an SSD I encountered write protection which locked the SSD. Every time I had to unplug the power to the SSD and plug it back in.

You can't switch your old ps4 hard drive and put it into your new one since each one is encrypted to one specific play station .

Bought a $21 SATA clover, drank some brisk sweet tea and waited for HDD to clone to SSD. Done.
I figured I’m likely going to upgrade most of my consoles to SSDs, so the closer is worth the time.

i have a 2TB on my old ps4 and have already transferred everything in the ps4 pro via lan cable.
but it is almost full.
and i dont wanna buy another 2tb external hard drive.
so i have just backed up everything from my ps4 pro into a friends external
and i was wondering : if i delete everything from my regular ps4 and put it in the new one.
will it work ?
the ps4 pro will say, the new hard disk is going to be erased
and i simply insert the usb with the software just like you did (i will restore everything from the external later )

Thanks.. Just received 4TB SSD for PS4 Pro. Waiting for 2TB SSD to use as extended storage to move my stuff over. 1TB internal and 512GB USB flash drive as Extended on PS4 at moment. 2TB is for laptop but will be using as temp storage on PS4 to save all the downloads again. ALL Digital for me hence needing HDD upgrade. Done that many PS3's that I know what to expect.. Was unsure where HDD bay was on PS4 (Pro) so thanks for that info. Brilliant video and thanks again.

So you went to google and downloaded the correct firmware but that’s on your pc did you put your hdd in your pc then take it out? I’m confused as to how you downloaded the file to your hdd

Can I just install the update through Safe mode without backing up data or will I need to do the complete process. I only play Apex legends and I think everything is automatically saved onto the game. So what should I do?

Hello. I have clean my ps4 pro on the top and it got better. It is very quiet when it just stand on. But if i play a game like fifa its gets very noisy. Can it help if i change my hard drive? My ps4 are 2 years and 3 months old but we have 5 years ad garanty in Norway. Can i ask for a new ps4 too? Or should i just break the garanty safe mark and open the whole ps4 to clean it? Thanks! I was afraid to break the little plastic thing cause' it was stuck, but with a little effort came right out :3. I didn't know you can copy the files to the computer via ethernet cable :V. I copied everything with a USB drive in like five switches xD, haha

And War yes you need a usb stick with 1.1gb of space or more. the USB stick also needs to be format, you can google/RUclips how to do this.
