I remember the last time I put a 2 terabyte hard drive in my PS4 it accepted exFAT for the format. I've been trying to put a Samsung Evo 870 4 terabyte into and every time I boot it into safe mode to reinstall system software it says update file corrupted while I have the USB Drive-In. I will definitely take your advice and try FAT32 next
hey i have a question i don't know if you do know if its possible, but if you install the new ssd inside the ps4 can you install a jailbreakable firmware then jailbreak the ps4.

i have crucal ssd bx500 2.5 500gb version is this only works on ps4 fat 32 or also exfat ? because mine ps4 cant find it

Your instructions worked. PS4 website says only to create an update folder. Once I used your instructions to make PS4 folder first... It worked right away. Thank!
I needed a project so i bought a ps4 from a electronics pawn shop. I tore it down to the motherboard. Made sure the thermal pads were in place. Cleaned the crusty motherboard cpu thermal paste off. Installed new thermal paste. I cleaned the years of dust out of this thing. The fan and vents were caked up with it. I took the cd rom out tore it down and cleaned and lubed everything. I tried installing a 1tb ssd SanDisk and got to where i needed the usb drive. I got a 64g usb drive and at that point didnt know where to go from there. I installed the old hd just so i can run the ps4 to test its function. Runs like new. But this video on how to format the usb and what to download was very informative. Thanks for the video.

I was having trouble with my cousin's PS4 after upgrading the old HDD for a new SSD, I couldn't make it install the update and I was starting to suspect that the USB drive was not compatible, but then I found out I didn't make the ¨PS4¨ folder so the poor thing wasn't able to find it.

I had 2 broken ps4s in my room and I’m using the hard drive from my 1st one they been sitting since I got my ps5 and they were barely even touched before that finally tho I can use the one thank you

This is old but you can format the hdd to exfat. Exfat is actually recommended.

Hi there. Got a new hdd, did everything like you showed, connecting dualshock 4 usign the cable and starting de ps4. After a while, without pressing any button, it says :" Cannot start the PS4. Connect the DUALSHOCK 4 using the USB cable and then press the PS button "

Okay so mine died. Just got the new hard drive. Bought a Samsung 870 EVO 2TB SSD . I thought you had to format the hard drive itself first then format the USB then download the software onto the USB then over to the PS4. Sorry but I'm not very computer savvy so I'm just trying to figure this all out. Would love it if there's a way to Salvage any of my gameplay information off my old hard drive.
is the systemsoftware on the console itself or the hdd?
i tried swapping the hdd from an old day1 ps4(glossy piano black) to a slightly younger model. but the younger ps4 said i have to update the swapped hdd to 9.04. i dont want to do that because i dont even know the OS version of the old one. could be useful for modding.
does this mean i have to fix the piano ps4 just to get access to the data on the hdd? old ps4 has a broken hdmi port but the warranty seal is intact and i kinda dont want to remove it, those ps4's get rare nowadays. but what you gonna do right? a hdmi port cant be fixed without opening the console. and the younger one has click of death, is it the laser moving up and down or does the clicking come from the hdd?
Is it possible to take the Toshiba MQ01ABD100 disk drive from my PS4 slim and put it into my Computer directlt and back up all my system stuff that way and put it onto a new disk drive settings and all onto a different PS4?

Best way would be to Clone the drive. There are tools/software to help with that

Yeah I have one issue I follow your instructions exactly and my new hard drive won't go into safe mode with my PlayStation 4 I don't have that problem with my old hard drive but my new hard drive refuses to go into safe mode and then my PlayStation says unable to access system storage.. everything I read about that issue simply means that the new hard drive is probably faulty. what do you think?
It shouldn't matter if the drive is defective to get to safe mode. Hold the power button down until you hear the second beep, then immediately let go of the power button and it should go to safe mode
I followed the tutorial exactly but the ps4 takes forever to prepare the update system software and it gets stuck at 47% please help me

I am planning to upgrade ps4 pro internal 1tb to 4tb. Is there any issue in the performance of PS? Few people are saying it may impact the on the motherboard. More noisy and heating issue
Honestly, I wouldn’t go 4tb I would do only up to 2tb it a older system so I would push it
i have ps4, wont even read the data on usb. its in fat32 with correct folder, cant update, cant reinstall OS get SU- error. wish I wrote the code down, stuck in safe mode. i think the HDD is dead

Update: don’t follow this guys step for the usb part, it’s been over 12 hours and it’s still loading at 87% lmao, go into somewhere and have a place download it for you on a usb, game stop, Best Buy, idk man just anything but this 🤣

Yep. Just pull out the hard drive of the old 1 and put it into the new 1. U won't need to download or do anything else as it already has the ps software system in it n so yea. Nice n simple.

after all that I go to option 7 and get the "cannot find the update file." (SU-41350-3). I have triple checked everything multiple times over and still get this error. I have no clue what to do from here
Maybe the usb stick could have something wrong with it you should try it on a different usb

exFat should also work, you need the bigger 1 GB Update file
i did it eelier on fat ps4 i upgraded 500 gb to 1 tb ssd

You can also use exFat, because the PS4 supports that file format.

I tried formating my usb but i get the error "the volume is too big for FAT32" I'm guessing my usb is too big but it's the same size as the one u had '57.3 GB'

My roommate's PS4 stopped. I reinitialized and put in the upload. Now it streams and plays Blu Rays, but games got stuck in download mode. So I'm guessing the hard drive cried uncle. Exhausting possibilities because can't really afford a new machine yet.

hey so I have done everything to try to fix data corruption issues on my ps4 I've initialized, factory reset, updated system software, rebuilt data base and I still get the same issue what could I do?

Keep getting corrupted data error on the new God of War. I’ve deleted and reinstalled games. Rebuilt database, and even initialized the PS4.
I still get the error CE-34224-5 whenever I start a game except for COD MW2 Warzone.
This has never happened before to me.
