I always recommend people do these also for their PS4, and now (if lucky enough to have one), the PS5. A number of people used to think I was making it up, in particular clearing the cache. But even just doing that they saw the boost in performance. Doing these 2 steps, along with at least a quick dusting once a month should keep your PS4/PS5 running at or at least near its best potential.

I thought some people say it doesn't matter if you upgrade to SSD because something something the USB interface is not fast enough to keep up with SATA speed
Regardless if it's not fast enough, an SSD will basically ensure you the best speeds at all time; yes there is a cap on how fast the ps4 can process everything, but with a normal HHD, your speeds will still fluctuate and an SSD will basically remove that area of slow speeds for the ps4
I just changed the HDD with an samsung 1tb ssd and its really faster, the performance and just graphics in general are also alot better. Lags are also reduced and almost non existent. If you do buy one, just be careful that you buy an SATA 3 SLIM ssd. You can also use laptop ssd‘s.

@@thegamer6314 lol yeah i keep getting that as well , im glad you can have more games plus also be able to update cod and the rest stay on gaming brother have a nice rest of the day / evening
Do we need to be careful after rebuilding database ? Does rebuilding delete our profile features or DNS we put in because if it does some people might actually update their JB ps4s after doing this and it would be good to learn if it does or not.
No nothing will be erased and your system will run much smoother
@@theaveragegamerguy5989 cool thx
If you’re using an extended hard drive it may get corrupted
@@SamsHamlet no it won't touch your external hard drive, ive done this quite a few times even when I have it plugged in the console doing this
yeah I use an SSD but I unplugged everytime I shut off the system from the PS4 menu 1st of course. That database thing works a shitton tho
So 1) Delete Cache and 2) Rebuild Database, right?
Thx! I was just dealing with this (lagging interface) last night! Then again my, PS4 Pro is 5 years old...
I feel it bro, I just got a vr for my pro and it started acting like a hoe for an hour before shit started working
ive got the old big box ps4 and a ps4 slim my big box ps 4 is 8 or 9 yrs old i think..dont know how old my ps4 slim is
If you never serviced it, it's good time to clean and change thermal paste.
I don't know how this video showed up in my RUclips recommendations, but this sounds super easy, barely an inconvenience.
I was stuck in a safe mode loop. My console forced me to initialize (wiping the console clean) my ps4 pro 5 times. Thats when I did a little investigating and realize that my ps4 hard drive went bad. I never knew that was a thing. I then upgraded to a Samsung 2TB SSD. Before I found this solution, I assumed my ps4 was broken but simple as swapping the hard drive had fixed my issue. Just explaining what I came across so if anyone experience the same, thats all that has to be done. Good to help out👋🏽.
Happened to me last year, I was terrified that my ps4 pro was done for.
How does that even happen?
@@crookedbuns tech doesnt live forever. And nowadays all tech is made to last until release of like a next gen, phones too, they live for a couple years and go bad. They all want you to buy their new shit they release everytime, wich is getting more expensive every time as well..
@@crookedbuns Having replaced several of these PS4 drives for other peoples, I noticed that Sony prefers to use no name or low grade drives to keep the unit cost down, they fail faster than WD or other more expensive platter drives.
Load the game for which you want to clear the cache and while the game is loading, press and hold the L1 + R1 buttons. By doing so, the game will clear its cache.
Is it worth upgrading to an SSD? And also which ssd will give me the best performance out of my PS4 pro?
@MY WORLD what about load times?
Absolutely YES, upgraded my PS4 Fat to 1TB SSD and it was totally worth it.
You should be the President of Sony North America! Your console knowledge is insane, and very helpful.
Thanks for the helpful hints always appreciated. 🇦🇺
God of war 2018 crashes my ps4, constantly. I haven't used it for a year, the first time I plugged it back in I could play multiple sessions and then it started crashing again. It must be the cache, I appreciate this, I might be able to use my ps4 again.

I just HAVE to say.. I love your videos!!!!💘 You're the ONLY guy on here, that is always giving useful and very helpful information about our PS4's and now PS5's,. You never ramble on and on about something that doesn't even pertain to the title of the video. And WOW, I greatly appreciate that too! 😊 Your direction and instructions are always on point and are very clear to understand. Your channel is my absolute favorite!! Keep up the good work ☺️❤️💖💕
My PS4 Pro uses a grounded computer cord. I see yours uses the type my PS5 and Xbox Series X uses. My PS4 Pro has never slowed down in the 4 years. I have to clean out the fan when it gets loud.
Hey John can you please make some Xbox tips and tricks too. I really like your tips and most of them are unique, which I don't find on other channels. I hope you will do it.😘😘😘
Connect the DualShock 4 controller with the provided USB cable. Press the PS button on the controller. Select Rebuild Database from the menu.
Your the man, thanks 😊

Right in for the tip. I left a like.
I thought some people say it doesn't matter if you upgrade to SSD because something something the USB interface is not fast enough to keep up with SATA speed
Sata ssd is different than the m2 from ps5
Regardless if it's not fast enough, an SSD will basically ensure you the best speeds at all time; yes there is a cap on how fast the ps4 can process everything, but with a normal HHD, your speeds will still fluctuate and an SSD will basically remove that area of slow speeds for the ps4
I just changed the HDD with an samsung 1tb ssd and its really faster, the performance and just graphics in general are also alot better. Lags are also reduced and almost non existent. If you do buy one, just be careful that you buy an SATA 3 SLIM ssd. You can also use laptop ssd‘s.
@@kamo-3215 how much is the sata slim?
@@DoomyRei I'm not talking about SATA vs m.2 and obviously this discussion is ONLY for PS4. Why do you want to bring PS5?
I'm a PC only player but i still enjoy these console related videos, these are short and mildly entertaining.
This guy is the truth!
After rebuilding database will you lost all you saved files amd games
Video starts at 0:50 . welcome
Thanks a lot I had trouble installing RDR2. Now I can finally enjoy this master piece again
You make it look so easy when taking apart your ps4. But for me, it’s like defusing a bomb😭
Thanks mate this help me out alot. Please make more videos mate.
Thank you sir. I own a PS4 and I did what you suggested and it's working better than ever!! Mad props to you!!
I'm thinking about buying a PlayStation 4 Slim then a big heavy one just in 23 they go for $365 Walmart not bad does it perform good as a standard PlayStation 4
As rule a thumb I always upgrade immediately that I’ve never ran into any issues this is good knowledge to pass on
Rebuild database is not needed if you have an SSD. It is basically same as disk defragmentation in Windows an it works only with mechanical HDDs.
Will abslutely try it., thanks John ! greetings from Mexico
I have jailbroken ps4 will this remove jailbreak and update it to latest firmware?
Does it depend on what type of ps4 because you have ps4 pro and I have the ps4 original one of the first made I think
You reversed the talking at the end 😄 ..my ps4 fans get extremely loud for some reason I doubt this will fix it but will try it anyway. Thanks
EXCELLENT.
John, by the way, do you think that upgrading the PS4's hard drive is something that you can do at home, or does it require a professional for installation?
Thank you for reposting this video. I think it’s important you do this in another 3-4 months so more people can learn this
Whats ps4 pro is that??mine is cuh-7116b its have a desktop like power cable but ur ps4 have ps4 slim type power cable.can u tell me whats ur model no. ?Pls

I got a CRUCIAL BX500 1TB on my PS4 Slim, it's like a new life to my console.
Deleting unused apps, saved data that's automatically saved to the cloud (if you're a PS plus member), photos etc also helps with this issue at least in the very short term
Thanks! 😃 Good as NEW!!!
And work like a charm😉

Rebuilding databases on ps4 doesn't affect save data right?
Hey guys! Stupid question, so does the SSD make the loading times of the games faster? Or just increase performance of the system?
Theoretically it should do both although the load times won’t see a noticeable difference unless you have a game fully installed on the SSD instead of using a disc. Read times are limited by hardware.
Depends on models too. Ps4 slim was only sata2 so ssd not all that worth it when looking at cost/performance. Ps4 pro took advantage of sata3 tho
@@trappedsol I did it to a 4 slim and it helped a lot, it improved load and install times. I also put an SSD in a PS3 fat with great results, now PS3 Skyrim load screens don't take 2 Mins to run through.
@@jamesharvey44 yea no im not saying theres no improvement, im just sayin i dont think its worth a few seconds of load time. A 2tb evo is still over $200. Not worth it to me. Not for a ps4 slim on sata2. Havent tried it on my ps4 pro yet, but sata3 will perform better.
@@trappedsol I agree it is expensive but when the PS4 drive dies a WD blue 1TB makes a good $85 replacement. On a PS3, it was well worth the cost as the improvement was quite noticeable in overall useability.
I have to use my mobile hotspot as the Wi-Fi for my ps4 do u have any tips for marking the connection better I live in an area where my connection isn’t very strong any way but I just wanted to know if u have any tips on how to make the connection better when I am playing online games I know I can get different divices to make it better but I dont want to get one if there is a solution to make it better.

Thank you that help a lot with my PlayStation👍
Quality content again! Love that your still making PS4 content :)
Uh, a link to a drive, and or specification for the kinds of drive needed, would be helpful.
Information on the maximum drive size, or drives to avoid would also be great.
Samsung 870 EVO 2.5" whatever size you want. I have the 1 or 2TB Drive I can't remember.
Ssd the bigest upgrade for ps4 pro over 60% 70% faster loading and download and snapy interface
Hey bro
I think I actually did this once, years before I saw this video. It was my brother that taught me how/ told me to do it .
Let's say we do want to upgrade the storage. Is there a specific SSD that has been determined to pair particularly well with the system?
Just did it to my PS4 Pro load up screen seems faster at least we’ll see. Thanks for the tip.
Isn't rebuilding database erasing stuff ? Doesn't that erase icons or folders you've created or something?
I never owned a PS4 but I'm planning to buy one, does this apply to PS4 Pro too?
Yeah I think it does too
Yes its applicable to all PlayStation 4 versions
I have an external hard drive for my original PS4, it’s a 2 TB one though. I have no complaints, as far as performance though. I haven’t had to upgrade to PS4 Pro though, only if my PS4 dies since I can’t get a PS5.
Namaste brother. May i know what do we connect all consoles with?..
Does buying an SSD make your PS3 faster as well or just the PS4?
Thats some high quality footage..
Almost official sony material!
I got recommended this video the day I got a ps5 lol nice video anyway 😅
Does the cable have to be pulled out of the back completely or can you just turn off at the power and wait 30 secs?
What's the catchphrase you use at the end? Very informative videos as always.
Brilliant and subbed I remember doing this on ps3 for safe mode entries only ..for other things that I can't remember..but when I get my ps4 soon and hopefully ps5 next year..I'll be set
I’m just stunned by that clip of you replacing the drive. Why is it sat in a tray? Are modern consoles intentionally designed for certain parts to be swapped in and out?
