Testing on different ps5s isn't good testing. You should test all of them in one machine.
I agree. I very much like the video, but in terms of keeping all controls as equal as possible, I'd have done the same machine, with the same cool down time between trials, and check the internet speed before each download as needed. That said, by the time I would have finished, Kylie Jenner would have become president lol.
Downloading from the internet to test a SSD is the dumbest thing I've seen on youtube in years anyway
@@Jasonsadventures but doesn't it reflect real world situations, you buy a game and want to DL it?
@@Jasonsadventures I was completely confused on this too lmao 🤣 it all comes down to internet connection and will be throttled. Most people don't even have 1Gb internet connections
@@ValentinoB No, the ps5 does have wifi 6 ,but if you don't have more than 1Gb internet connection. An SSD with 5000MB or more speeds won't even matter.
Where it does come into play is when copying or moving files from one SSD to the next. Any m.2 these days is overkill TBH. What's a few seconds when moving a game or 2 . 🤣
I bought myself the 2 TB Corsair MP600 PRO during the prime day sale on Amazon for 122 Euros. The read speed is 7100 Mbps and the write is 6800 Mbps. I couldn't be happier with its performance.
I formatted the drive 3 times to test its consistency. With each format, the speed just increased in its read speed. Started with 630 Mbps on the first format and 6500 Mpbs on the third format.
Even if the write speed is UPTO 7100 Mbps, I think the PS5 reads it in a different way. No matter which drive you buy, with read speed over 6500 Mbps, the PS5 will read them between 6000 Mbps - 6500 Mbps.
I moved all my games to the nvme drive and so far I haven't had any issues with downloading the games or running them off the nvme drive whatsoever.
In my opinion, corsair is the best option to go for. It is cheaper than the others and offers comparatively better Read/Write speeds.
I have the Corsair MP600 Pro too. It works fine.
I used the Wd black sn850 since the day the sd drive was unlocked and I’ve had zero problems so far
I recommend buying a 2tb internal SSD and a 2tb external SSD for all your ps4 games and extra backup for ps5 games. Moving games back and forth is so quick and convenient.
Here's a few things that would help your testing. First of all, ignore the download speeds. That can vary significantly due to your ISP's and Sony's CDN traffic. Second, ignore the disc install speed. Blu-ray read speeds are significantly slower than what these NVME drives are capable of doing. For the actual testing, you should use larger games for the transfer test, run it multiple times for each drive, and then show the results for both transferring to and from the drive. Doing it this way should help prevent any background system processes from throwing off the results too much.
Another thing if a drive is Fuller it writes slower that's why when he wrote it back to the internal storage it went so much slower
Comparing download speed is just silly. No ISP is going to download anywhere near what any of these drives can write.
your results have likely been skewed by caching. your playstation has already cached the data and your first tested drives will be significantly slower than your last tested drives, because as you repeat the transfer more the console will cache more.
!!!!
Could you explain?
@@MoodyDudey pretty sure you don’t need a better explanation than that. It’s a no brainer
@@Suchmxn yeah my bad, I didn’t even watch the video yet 😂
@@MoodyDudey there are steps to clearing your consoles cache
Crucial P3 Plus is going to give you the most space for the money. P5 Plus is great too, and faster, for a little more money.
Whats the speed on it I seen ppl saying only 5000 mb
Would it of killed you to make a super simple excel spreadsheet with all of the respective drives/speeds/prices?🤦♂
It is "would it have**..." not 'of'

I bought the FireCuda 530 1TB last March for $190. Now it is $140. I love it. I have it set up so any PS5 games download to the internal storage and PS4 games download to the 530. Your video was done very well. My only suggestion would be to do each test 3 times per drive, throw out the longest time and average the other 2. Good video, well done.
I got the firecuda 530 4tb and I love it. Just like you all my ps4 games are on it and the main ps5 games I am playing on console storage with all the rest being on the SSD. I almost have the entire 4 TB SSD full to 70% which I will not go past due to recommendations. It works so fast and so good. Worth every cent.
Hey is it still running well? I’m thinking about getting the 4tb version
@@SamsHamlet I have had mine in for almost a year and have not had any drama.
@@SamsHamlet
Don't worry firecuda is a very dependable ssd. 4TB is enough for more than 100 games. If you are that extreme take it. I just play every once in a while and the 2TB is really not enough. Some games takes huge space over 120 GB and much more. Not to mention the special edition games.
Same I just bought it for 130 the one terabyte one and seeing as I don’t have one and that’s my first one it does pretty well and I can definitely save an extra amount of games and I don’t have to keep re-deleting games to download another one
This video is 1 year too late. Everyone know the Firecuda is king. The 980 is best bang per bucks.
I have the firecuda HD in my ps4 and it's the only one that has never crashed and burned. Love Seagate. I use the Iron wolf HDs in my home nas. Nothing but the best.
Wdblack
Agreed.
I purchased a 4TB Barracuda 530 for my gaming laptop. And 2TB Barracuda 530 for my PS5. These SSD drives are beasts!
Right now the Corsair is best bang for buck. Cheaper than the Samsung.
I just use the internal space, it’s good enough. Holds about 10 games or so, then I delete and add games as I beat them or no longer want to play them.
I have the Corsair MP600 Pro Gen4 and it's fast and works perfect in my PS5 with no issues
same and i did a lot of researched before i got it..
Same here. No issues at all with the Corsair.
I order the same on Friday. Arriving today Monday. Just saw this video and wondered if I should just return it unopened.
Seeemd must others are having a good experience, but for the cheap price there may be an occasional dud and he got one.
Reading the comments I think I'll try it still.
@@jonmobrien use it ~ it's great!
Nothing beats the 4TB Firecuda!
Very true.
It even beats your wallet! $600 more for that 1 second faster gamer speed 🔥
I won't even look up the cost
I've been using the Firecuda for about 6 months and have had 0 issues 😀
Speed good?
@@VWayyyyyyyy the speed is really good
Glad I waited to buy my Firecuda. The prices are very reasonable now.
I have the Corsair MP600 PRO LPX 2TB and transferring over my 400GB worth of games from console to the NVMe took less than 20 minutes. I encountered no issues. You probably had a lemon unit to test with on video.
Firecuda 530 2TB not only faster but has vastly better durability stats
Corsair MP600 Pro LPX is the best bang for the buck.
Just got a 2tb Samsung Evo 980 Pro. It's incredible. It's full already, but it's incredible.
I buy too many games.
I have the corsair for the last 2 months, no issues, read speed of 6538 mb/s. The box was a different than the one you have and it's ps5 compatible. Must have a defective one.
No issues for me either, the box for mine was black and yellow.
I have corsair 4TB no problem so far. Got it from egg website and 5 year warranty from corsair website with proof of receipt ..
Yup! Works absolutely great for me as well 💯👍❗
I just installed the 1tb one in mine, same speed, works fine.
Download testing depends on more than only your internet speed.
One game can go faster than another. GTA V (90GB) was done in 15 minutes, it went just over 100 MB/S while the CoD update went at about 80. I have a 1 gb/s internet speed. I've got it wired.
If you really want to test a download on different consoles, do it wired, same game and not at the same time.
Transfer GTA to the SSD was Fast af, i have the WD Black SN850X 2TB.
I bought the 2 TB Western Digital Black sn850 SSD because one of the main engineers of the PS5 recommended it. I have had a Seagate HDD corrupt itself on my first PS4 and gaming laptop that I'm actively avoiding them forever.
Ugh. Seagates are the only drives I've had that fail. Like, no worky, stop loading everything, break my PC level failures.
I have the Samsung 980 Pro 2tb and it's great. Highly recommend. I liked it so much on my PS5 I bought another one for my PC.
IGN and Tom's Hardware reviewed most of these drives, the Corsair MP600 LPX is one or the best drives you can get for your cash, down speed at 5.5 or 5.8 really doesn't matter you won't feel it.
I didn't even know what an ssd was before this video, now I can teach a class.
Nothing beat 0.1 second that faster there is
I've had my PS5 since a month after launch, and in all that time, I never once had an issue with storage. I have an extremely fast Internet connection, so, when I do download a game, it takes less than 15 minutes to download 95% of all games.
I'm kinda in the same park. I mean I do understand people who want to install a 1TB SSD because they have big games and play many back to back or if they share the console.
But then some guys come and install 2 or even 4 terabytes and I'm like WTF dude, I live in a country where internet service is not specially amazing and almost any game take less than half an hour to download, most under 20 minutes.
@@AlejandroLZuvic yea sweet. And when the PS5 store goes down and you can’t download your games anymore like soon on ps3 or the 3ds maybe you’ll figure it out.
@@HuhWhatHuhwhatHuh It's pretty obvious every PS game from the PS4 onwards will be backwards compatible with future PS consoles. So you will be able to download PS5 games. The time of exotic architecture in consoles is over.
_The ads edited into that data transfer speed countdown caught me by surprise, the anxiety almost made me skip 🙄_
Thanks for putting in the effort to make this video.
For future videos, I would like to see more visual representation (e.g., results, drive names) on screen. It is extra work, but I think it would make the video more coherent. Max Tech (a Macbook youtube channel) have good examples how to do performance comparison vids, imo.
I bought the corsair 2tb for $130 and works great for me even found a vented ssd cover
I currently have a Seagate Game Drive M.2, 1tb that i bought for my PS5 ($157 w/ tax). 7300 MBPS read and 6000 MBPS write speed. Ive had it in my PS5 for a few weeks (PS5 is only about 3-4 weeks old anyways) and so far I'm happy with it. I dont plan on buying many games for my PS5 currently, maybe 10 max, but i dont want to be having to delete files like i did on the PS4 to do updates or play new games. If i need more space, then I'll probably just get a 2 or even a 4 TB ssd for it. I dont think that will happen, but being the PS5 has had many things to slow its sales like the microchip shortage as well as just Covid in general, game development probably hasnt gone into full swing yet. Personally the peak gaming for me was during PS3 as i have probably over 100 games for it while ps4 has something like 25 tops. So far i have 2 games for my PS5 and one on the way.
What’s your opinion on the Corsair LPX now. This is the only place on the internet I. O hills find that this issue appears. Was it a dud? Thanks for your time!
Just pulled the trigger on the 4TB FireCuda for my PS5 👍
I bought the 980 pro as soon as Sony made it possible to upgrade storage. Good to know I have a decent drive.
Same here
Just upgraded my 1tb to 2tb
Same! 980 pro works great,I even got mine on sale for $180 at best buy.
@@JkChaotic are you using it updated?

A real test between drives would be how hot and the life span.......
it doesn't matter which of these SSD M.2 you go with at the end of the day what really matters when gaming is LOADING TIMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I came up on one of your videos by total accident while looking for something I think it was unrelated to the actual topic that you end up talking about but anyway my point is I enjoyed that video so much that I am giving you all the thumbs up I'm subscribing and you just make really good content man even though I wasn't 100% sure what the content was about at first I think I get the hang of it now and I'm also obsessed with you PlayStation and I just got a PS5 so I'm all in good job keep doing what you doing it's always work
Cause it's the ps5 thats writing to the drive the ssd can handle something that writes up to 7000mbs so no matter what drive u use it's guna be basically the same
Yes I did go with the 2TB Fire Cuda & it did not disappoint!!!
I'm not spending hundreds of dollars for storage on top of $500 for console. I use a 256gb stick for extra storage but I'd rather just delete games I'm not playing and downloads ones I want to play rather than spend $200 just to have games sitting on my console that I'm not playing.
I am trying to upgrade my external drive to another. How can I keep my games and data on the original external drive?
I have the WD Black 2T. Works great.
Same here no issues
WD black 4tb and I have practically forgotten about it.
It's the external HD though
It's a great drive.
Me too. only did a little bit of research when making my decision to go with it. I could care less about saving "a minute" on installs.
@@John_M_B You would have to do at least 3 downloads to get an accurate average. every download is different. Depends on internet traffic at the time.
Are u related to Steve Kerr the warriors head coach🤣
3 PS5s in 1 room is mind blowing!
Anybody else get a commercial when he did that countdown?
So you recommend the Samsung 980 Pro 2TB? This is what I bought. I haven’t installed it into PS5 yet and I paid $280 CDN but Firecuda was sold out. Should I keep this one or exchange ?
Of course I watch this AFTER I bought the mp600
Thanks for the video!! I literally just found the 2TB Firecuda for $240 on sale! and I just got a PS5 too! SUPER excited to check out Sony's next-gen gaming!!!
Corsair 2tb for the win in my experience. $120
My Nextorage 1Tb for $90 is killing it. Haven't had any problems in the four months since I installed it
I use a 4tb wd_black external for all my PS4 games since they play from external and plan on a 2tb WD_black internal SSD for PS5 stuff.
It literally just took me 15 seconds to transfer Ghost Wire Tokyo to my Corsair MP600.
Couldn't you have took an external drive to archive games then transfer them back to the internal sdd to do this rather than download off the internet?
The last part where you state lightning or a surge of power thru your system. You could unplug when not in use or invest in a surge protector. The more surges you get in your power supply the more chance of burning it out. Now the usb part being burnt out idk. But the ps6 should be coming out with wireless charging like the cellphones. Just place it on top of the console self charging..
the 7000+ speeds are not false advertising, it's just the PS5, plug it into any gen 4 PC and you'll get the full speed. Also this test is pretty useless considering there's nothing about actual gameplay just transfering files.
How is that useless? That's a better test than games generally. For the most part games will typically not saturate the full bandwidth of these drives which would make the tests all have way more similar results than transferring files which tests their actual capability in a more meaningful way.
i love the tv stand, post a link to that!!! lol
this video would have been perfect if you did some sort of spec overlay showing the time comparisons.
Internet is a factor also need to consider that . Just by switching to cable instead of wifi conection it incresed by alot download speed.
Now's the time to get the Samsung 980, I just bought it at Best buy for $89. Definitely worth the investment.
I love my fircuda got a 4tb and still have plenty of space left. Worth the extra cash
Do you have to turn off or turn on the ssd that is installed inside your PS5 and do you have to turn them off before you shut your PS5 off
These drives have dropped significantly recently. 2tb WD 850x is 179, and the one in video is 199 for 2tb. Samsung 950 is 179. The WDX claims to have 6600 write speed and the one on the video is 5000 so idk why the X is 20 cheaper. But now you can get 2tb for less than 200 which is awesome.
Now It really has dropped. At least the Samsung has, I just bought the 1tb for $89 at Best buy.
The wd 1tb is $59 now and the 2tb is ibelieve $129
WD drive is designed to use the cooling of the PS5 so an honest test would put temp sensor while doing testing over time. I think you will find WD probably performs better. Just saying. I put a 4TB WD 850 in my PS5. I didn't notice any game speed issues.
Hey buddy, where did you get your TV stand?
I think you're corsair had an issue. I've got the MP600 PRO LPX 2 TB version, and it seems to work great & for $139.91 out the door, I'm more than happy .
After viewing your video this morning, I got stressed up because I ordered an MP600 Pro LPX 2 days ago. Then looked again at other reviews, and they were all positives. It arrived about 20 minutes ago, installed it, and it took about 4 minutes to move 290GB of games on it. I’m guessing you have a defective unit, or you dumped static electricity in it while installing it, or something like that.
He used different PS5s to do these tests...very unscientific. I'd like to know if he tried the MP600 in a different PS5, or if he tried a different SSD in the PS5 he used the MP600 in. Some trouble shooting steps need to be done. Buy another MP600 and try that. Otherwise his recommendations are worthless.
Yeah not a very good experiment video. The mp600 is the most highly recommended ssd for the PS5 in peer reviews. I absolutely love mine
Yeah I got the 4TB in my Ps5 andI moved 10 games from the Ps5 SSD to the MP600 PRO LPX in around 15 min. This test was not really scientifically correct though, you can safely buy the Corsair version it has the best result when stress tested online.
Either way you win because any one of these ssd's are going to be better then just the console. 🤷♂️
Got the 2 TB Corsair mp600 and have had no issues I couldn't even tell anything was different
Aclimator brand m.2 drive I have writes at 7,200 gigs. When moving games back and forth it's significantly faster than the built in ps5 storage
lol, I remember when I was told I would never use 1TB of storage. It is so funny thinking about what people thought they knew what was happening with electronics to what the reality is.
I have the PNY XLR8 CS3140 2TB and it’s awesome 7,500 Read & 6,850 Write
the one test that i would have wanted to see the most was game booting
Devs are forced to only use INTERNAL Speed SSD, NOT M.2 which most people will never buy
That Halloween shirt looks awesome though
I would only trust western digital and Samsung ssd’s. I don’t have experience with seagates SSD, but their HDDs have reliability issues in my experience
Bought a brand new seagate 5tb usb hdd for it to make ticking noises from first use
I actually have the opposite experience with WD HDDs constantly failing and Seagate HDDs being rock solid.

@@davidtheengineer456 it works great, I haven't had any issues with it, everything loads, and downloads fast. The 4tb is pricy being more than the ps5 itself but 4tb is alot of space if you have alot if games you want downloaded at once
Would the firecuda 530 one tb just as good as your recommendation? Or is the size of tb make a different besides that it has more space?
These corsair mp600 ssd's are known to have the phison e-16 memory controllers on them. If you buy an ssd for any internal drive either for ps5 or PC make sure it has a phison e-18 controller and check what the iops are on the drive as well.

The best test is the time transfer from internal to second (external) nvme and to check temperatures also.
