This is a first time where the slim is released and you really don't NEED to upgrade or feel any buyers remorse. The differences really seem to come down to looks, disc drive, and ports.
Having two USB C ports is nice but still not a dealbreaker for me. The design looks worse the two plastic feet look cheap the fact you gotta have internet connection to swap the disc drive is odd the new location of the M.2 slot will cause overheating problems. You now have 4 panels instead of 2 and watch Sony sell them all separately. @@itIsI988 My 1200 has Coil Whine but only when I'm very close to Playstation. I can't hear it from the couch. Sony doesn't consider as the problem, it's very likely that Coil Whine has stay in Slim. Its sad
Actually the reason 830GB from 848GB is because Astrobot is pre-installed on the PS5 slim. You can delete Astrobot off the internal storage. PS5 Slim has more storage than Xbox Series S/X 1TB usable 802GB.
Bro even 1 tb is too little nowadays, the ps5 should of had 2tb and the ps6 should have 4 or more. The ps5 is absolutely not future proof. Expect a 500 gb game in the next 5 years
What happens if you factory reset the console? - Do you need to validate the drive again using the internet. If this is so then that's why having the internet requirement is a big deal. If it doesn't and only connects once then ultimately it's only like the older PS5s in the sense that it's a console with a disc drive and without the servers it cannot be replaced. The disc drive cannot be replaced on the older PS5s because they are married to the motherboard so its the same deal. If you need to register everytime you factory reset then when the servers are dead so is your console if it requires a reset.
this is a big problem and them pushing digital only future is why Consoles are losing their appeal to me , PC is the future imo if we're going to be digital only (yes i know at 500 bucks price to performance for consoles are insane , but at the same time i rather pay more and get a PC where i know i own shit and most games i have are preserved forever , and things like Steam Deck and Lenovo Legion Go are really making it worth it with their prices)

@@whiskeygamer9402since he didn’t answer your question I will. Yes it reads PS4 discs. It will also read any PS4 external drives you had on your PS4. I brought my PS5 home and during the set up process it asks if you want to transfer from another console. You simply plug both consoles in to your router and the PS5 will detect it and transfer stuff through your home network. It took around 30 minutes for my PS4 to transfer everything I had installed on the internal storage over to my PS5. And all I had to do was unplug my external drive from my PS4 into the PS5 and it detected and reads from it without any extra steps. I was able to play the Final Fantasy 7 remake zero issues on my Ps5 just like I did on my PS4
For me it would have been a guaranteed buy if it was, not only smaller like you say but also noticeably more energy efficient, like all prior slim models. Considering it consumes almost the same energy I'll only bother upgrading when and if they release a pro model.
Heatsinks were repositioned to better use the circular airflow coming out of the fan. Whereas the normal models have the tower taking a lot of direct airflow but the central sinks get whatever flow "bounces" around the chassis. On the Slim they are positioned in a circle around the fan, ideally you could have the now-gone 3rd sink at the front or top to make a more complete circle but you won't want hot air coming out the front of the unit.
@@anonbeetl More efficient, but less mass because copper is expensive. So it removes heat at a similar rate. Which is almost the bare minimum because if you have ever turned on a PS5 with a jammed fan it will get HOT fast and turn off. So flow and mass of heatsinks is a fine balance to maintain. An ideal solution would be to add a smaller fan for the power supply so it gets better flow and doesn't radiate heat into the chassis. Similar to PCs with Power Supplies that have a fan so heat from it doesn't go into the box.
I will be honest with you, the PlayStation Slim is one of the best consoles, I have had it turned on for 3 days running and playing and downloaded at rest and it lasts a long time, it is very good.
Is it just me that feels like its kind of pointless taking a ps5 slim, lets all be honest the ps5 sits on your table / floor for most of its life and even if you take it with you, 1 extra pound wont hurt a lot.
The original 1000 version was a work of art. I have the 1100 series and I’ve had no problems with it but as far as the heat sink original 1000 version was just it was a masterpiece
I have a 2015 base ps4 that’s still chugging along and I’ve been waiting for a ps5 that will fit under my tv so I’m due for a pretty massive upgrade on Friday.
Yeah Ik it would be cheaper but I really can’t stand how massive the old one is and I can’t wait till the pro comes out so I’m just gonna get the disk version of the slim to play cyberpunk and Rdr2 and put dbrand digital edition plates when I’m not using the disk drive so it’s even smaller. TLDR the smaller size is worth the extra price to me
The biggest issue I see with the PS5 slim is the disc drive, where if someone makes a decent enough adaptor, they could probably make pirating PS5 games easier. Correct me if I'm wrong.
@@coltenmatthues2716 If someone is clever enough I think they could easily create an adaptor that allows the PS5 Slim's disc drive to be connected to the PC. And I think if they were able to do it, pirates could have an easier time pirating the games because it would reduce their headaches if trying to crack the PS5's anti-piracy protection by modifying the console itself. In better cases, if they are emulators that are decent enough to play PS5 and PS4 games, they could add CD-ROM support, which allows PS5 disc drive adaptors to let playes emulate their original games more authentic to a real PS5.
No reason to upgrade from Day 1 PS5 for me. I truly wanted a smaller one, but I’m a bit bummed that there isn’t a performance improvement. Would be nice with atleast a 10-15 % graphics/cpu boost as some games run pretty poorly. Ill wait!
was lucky enough to see the video go live and thought to myself: maybe he will give the code! Fat chance, even at 4K and using magnifier on Windows it is impossible to read that.
I like the redesign; that new cooling system does look legit, Disc drive can be replaced if it fails(I would buy disc model anyway), smaller, lighter. The gripes are just another internet trend for everyone to jump on. Throw some matte black plates on it 🤷♂👍👍
When you’re looking at the price differences, you also need to consider the cost of materials and manufacturing during the production phase. Everything has been more expensive in the last couple years
I’m tapping out on PS5 Bro. To constantly buy upgraded technology is not only materialistic, but consumerism. Buy what makes you happy not to keep up with the jones.
This would be great if that protrusion of the disc drive wasn't so obvious, otherwise I like it. I traveled recently with my PS5 and it sucks compared to traveling with a series x or s. On top of having to pull it out going through TSA. I think it will be easier to place in a backpack instead of only having to use a duffle bag. I like the extra USB C port in the front as well. Not a fan of having to purchase the stand separately but all my consoles are wall mounted so it's not like I use the stand currently anyway.
I'm getting the disc version but for those who get digital wouldn't it be better to buy the PS5 Slim disc for $499 and sell the disc drive for $80 so it's basically like you only pay $410 compared to $450 digital?
Why would someone buy the disk from you for $80 (and not in its original packaging), while they can order one officially from Sony itself with packaging and stuff?
@@silversrayleigh1399 There are smart people out there I’ll the disc version of cod mw3 and beat it within a week and sell it on eBay for $70 I’m not like those morons that buy digital because once Sony take your $70 you never get it back
If I were to get a slim I would wanna get the four plates to represent the color of the buttons, it would look kinda goofy but I'd focus more on the monitor than the console so I'll live
Honestly the small press increase I think is worth it with the sheer amount of extra storage. That's really the only main upgrade besides size and maybe thermals.
The problem though is that they are stopping production of the original so now there isn't a cheaper option. Also considering that this is pretty much the same technology it still should have dropped in price because it's only a 100 extra gigabytes so why would it increase by 50$? Think about the Xbox series s carbon black getting 500 extra gigabytes for the same price increase. Not to mention charging 30$ for a stand is atrocious
I feel like just being able to stick your finger inside the console without taking anything off is going to be a issue. I’ve seen a lot of ps4s that end up getting roaches in them and now it’s even easier for bugs to get into the console.
I'm a long time PC gamer myself. Haven't had a console since the PS2 era. But I've been wanting to play God of War Ragnarok so badly I actually broke down and bought a PS5 sLim model a couple days ago. And I've got to tell you, I was surprised just how big this thing actually is, especially considering it is supposed to be a shrunken down model. I have been having a blast though with this thing, I love the big back catalog of games you can get with the PS Plus membership. Another thing I find interesting, is the fact that the BD-Rom drive isn't actually activated out of the box. I'm pretty sure you could unbox the unit, and remove the drive and then use it like a digital edition, and probably resell the drive if you don't need it. It's not until pretty far into the setup that the drive is actually activated and written to the console, from what I can tell.
So as someone who wants to buy a ps5 for the first time should I get the slim or OG. I know the slim has some very slight improvements like bit more storage but I feel like I prefer the old design better. Is it worth getting it over the OG for first time buyers
I'd get the OG but 1200 model. I've had the OG 1000 it had bad heat issues got the OG 1200 last year with the GOW bundle & it's been great since. Was gonna get the slim till these videos started dropping over the past few days I don't like it. Looks super cheap, there's a gaping hole on both top sides straight down to the fans, doesn't look like it lights up anymore, & the mix match panels look like a Temu Gamestation 50 or some sh¡t 😂 the ps5 was already not the best looking but man that thing makes me appreciate my series x even more
Crazy so your friend with a disc drive can't just come over and attach it to your ps5 because it's not registered to that ps5, reminds me of the early days of Xbox One games
Wait so the slim version doesn't have a slot for ssd and after you registered disc was it necessary to have internet connection for it to function after that?
removable disc drives are not a good thing! They're trying to force people away from physical games subtly, I guarantee eventually they'll go from included in certain bundles to sold entirely separately to 'well nobody is buying them separately, might as well stop selling them'
Disk drive pairing needing internet is horrible for the future when they inevitably shut down the service, leaving both the PS5 without a disk drive to play games offline and a useless disk drive since it's not a standard connector. (E-WASTE/GARABAGE)
I haven't bought a PS5 yet, because there aren't that many games I enjoy. Would rather wait for a price drop, when more games are available for more acceptable prices. This "slim" model unfortunately has a cheap feel to it compared to it's bigger cousin. Seeing the price and design, it's a no for me.
I’ve always thought the PS5 looks really cheaply made and gives a feel of a child’s toy. When you think back to the PS3 and PS4 Slim models they were so much better made and actually improved in areas. The fact they added two tacky plastic feet looks like an after thought to me. Flip over to the Xbox Series X machine and that’s a well built product. The current PS5 models look like hybrid Xbox 360s
Does anyone know if a company makes more square and flat side panels for the PS5? I really love the PS4 design and forum factor. The PS5 really drives me nuts in its un conventional design. I’d like to buy one and be able to remove the side panels and swap to something more boxy looking.
I kinda wish I saved the money and got the digital since I've never actually put a disc in mine. I did replace the plates with rounded ones so I could travel with it and it shrank the size quite a bit. I was worried the stock plate overhangs would get broken.
To be honest, I prefer glossy instead of matte mainly because it looks a lot like a car you know like a shiny new car and Matt makes it look like a piece of sh## Sorry but I’m just being honest on my opinion for it
That's what I said about it when it first appeared. It's a marketing ploy to sell more covers. They made the top covers glossy cause they know most people are going to hate it or they are going to scratch so fast that people will buy new covers without thinking about it.

@@Josh-si6ds it should be targeted to everyone not just new buyers that’s the problem. Lots of people do want to upgrade their PS5s but this is not an upgrade you’re better off just holding onto your OG PS5s.

This is not planned obsolescence, they're just protecting customers from counterfeit accessories. /End of sarcasm.

So, in resume, it has a slightly "better" cooling system?

TLDR the smaller size is worth the extra price to me
@@longliveleninism5503. Ok.
The biggest issue I see with the PS5 slim is the disc drive, where if someone makes a decent enough adaptor, they could probably make pirating PS5 games easier.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
Forgive my ignorance but what do you mean?
@@coltenmatthues2716 If someone is clever enough I think they could easily create an adaptor that allows the PS5 Slim's disc drive to be connected to the PC. And I think if they were able to do it, pirates could have an easier time pirating the games because it would reduce their headaches if trying to crack the PS5's anti-piracy protection by modifying the console itself.
In better cases, if they are emulators that are decent enough to play PS5 and PS4 games, they could add CD-ROM support, which allows PS5 disc drive adaptors to let playes emulate their original games more authentic to a real PS5.

Not really, considering you can buy and replace the current SSD for more storage on both units.

I think they will keep the detachable disc drive for the PS6. Hopefully we can play all discs from PS1-PS2-PS3-PS4-PS5
