I originally called this a "lazy overpriced upgrade", my friend who is a hardware engineer said "A good hardware engineering job should only requires minor changes for improvement". I guess, its a flex of PlayStation's hardware team on that front... *HOWEVER,* we both agreed Canadian $850.00 without a uhd blu-ray drive is ridiculous.
Some of y’all. I get it’s not for everyone. But it’s worth it for some. Example- I wanted a ps5 in my family room. So I was getting a second one anyway. I work a job that allows me a 15% discount. I paid 650$ after tax. The actual useable storage is approximately 1.2tb more. If you equate it to a nvme drive of the same size, you could equate that to another 50$ in value. Disc drive- I understand a lot of you guys demand to have one. I usually do too. But the last couple years I’ve found myself buying far more digital games, I really only use the disc drive for movies. So, FOR ME, the extra fidelity, frame rates, and storage, made it a worthy purchase for 650. Especially because I still had the first gen release.
Hey now, can you share your discount code? Haha, I'm teasing! And yeah, I agree - if you want something that's being marketed to you, and you've got the funds, buy it, and enjoy it! So with the brackets can we stand our ps5 pros upright without having issues? I heard the older ps5s had issues with thermal paste or the Liquid Metal when standing upright?
That problem was hugely overblown. Of course you heard the very vocal few that had an issue, but you wouldn't hear anything from the millions that didn't. My 2020 console has been upright its entire life and is fine.
4:36 the series x is so much quieter, my launch day console is still dead silent, my 1 year old ps5 is a lot louder The Xbox design is so much functionally better than the ps5 (looks wise it depends on preferences)
Kudos to Sony engineers for making the battery accessible. That alone will save owners hundreds of dollars. A technician should not need to remove the CPU heat-sink to get to the battery. Doing so increases the chance of the liquid metal thermal "pad" being compromised. I'd have to look at your prior strip-down vids again to see if that indeed would have been the case, but, iirc, in one model the battery was right under a heat-sink.
The lay out and reason everything looks so similar is Because the PS5 slim has a binned ps5 pro chip they knew what they were doing its a smart tactic to save money and charge the consumer more money
No, the PS5 pro use RDNA4 GPU with harware accelerated AI upscaler. This is not a software lock. And the chip is bigger and require more power and more thermal dissipation capabilities.
it's physically a different graphics processor. it uses an updated architecture from AMD, i wouldnt be surprised if it uses frame gen, but it is a different chip
@ShiroDv it seems they could add it to the ps5. They are doing this to force crazed fanboys into spending all their pay check on the pro and not their rent for a month.
@Bigzoe202Gaming people that think like you are the reason game companies say "consumers should get used to not owning games." You know the things that are shipped out half finished and cost $70 physically and digitally. And also require us to be online all the time even if it's a single player storymode
You forgot to mention how scalpers have finally bought up all the disk drives right now and are trying to resell them back for double the price. 🤦🏽♂️💀
For me its better frames on games that are struggling right now. Also I hate the blurry image in some games performance mode. PRO fixes that by running quality mode in 60 fps instead of 30.
Its almost like a con. Like they dont expect any major games in years to come and so they bs people into playing released games again cuz it looks/plays "better".
@ShinzoX90 Money doesn't really matter to me, especially as a hard-core gamer. I love the newest tech and gadgets. But I fail to see the point.. I think it's a disgusting move from Sony to not include a disc drive, not have ANY older ps4 games "enhanced."
Thanks for testing sound and thermal. I’ve decided to hold off my PS5 pro purchase. The noise/thermal issues from PS3 and PS4 ruined my gaming experience and don’t want to try another until Sony figures it out.
I mean at this point your better off buying a gpu and build yourself a pc. Even save more not requiring a subscription to play online and generally PC games discount faster then console games. Its a no brainer now.
An interesting takeaway from this analysis is that the Series X is actually a pretty well darn designed console: quieter, lower power consumption, while keeping roughly the same temperature. Who would have thought Microsoft had nailed it this time. It's just a shame about the games though...
As a person who upgraded to an XSX from a PS4 Pro, I couldn't agree more! Unfortunately for Xbox, the previous console generation was the one where most people acquired a library of games which thanks to Backwards Compatibility, combined with diminishing returns, constitutes a major obstacle against switching platform. Sony obviously knows this, and aren't afraid exploit this advantage to the maximum... Although I think they are overplaying their hand a bit if they think they can continue with this pricing for the next console generation!
Exactly. Thank you. It doesn't have those features but they can easily have done it on the base model. Current gen doesn't need an upgraded version at all they're very powerful. It's just devs haven't utilized the full potential yet. To me it's just waste of money and a cash grab. I mean why waste so much money where in 3 years PS6 will come out?
@@MikeTheGreek I think you're massively underestimating the power of PSSR, and the capabilities of it for the future. I also feel like you're overestimating the current power of the PS5 as most games are failing to hit 60 FPS at native 4K resolution. That's the whole selling point behind the Pro is that PSSR is supposed to bridge the gap for games to run at 60 FPS.
Small mistake I noticed but the ps4 enhancement mode is actually essentially just an ai sharpening filter over 1080p ps4 games. PS4 games will already run better on the base PS5, so you don't need the pro for it. Although in rare occassions games that don't hit 60fps on the base ps5 can possibly do so on the pro. Also this sharpening filter doesn't work on games that run at any resolution above 1080p internally.
A packed release schedule, content delays, and historic IP pushed console to the next level in 2023 Console will be the biggest games market sector this year after mobile. Console’s impressive +7.4% growth will far outpace mobile (+0.8%) and downloaded/boxed PC (+1.6%). Several factors are driving the growth of console gaming: 2022 was slower-than-expected for console, despite some big releases (like Elden Ring), so a portion of this year’s growth is more of a return to form. Major studios are launching new entries to successful franchises, including Zelda, Spider-Man, Mario, Forza, Starfield, Diablo, Baldur’s Gate, and Final Fantasy, after years without mainline releases. The pandemic forced the AAA games industry to delay releases even further. Have meaning when you say something.
Believe it or not, the PS5 Pro sometimes performs on par with, or even below, the RX 6800-a GPU that’s already four years old! But hey, consoles take years to develop, so by the time they drop, PC tech is miles ahead. Console gamers, thoughts?

I traded 2 consoles in for the ps5 pro and the next thing I buy for the actual price of the pro will be an oled tv. Why do some of you care so much about what others do in their free time with their money?
many complain about no disc drive but the pro has 2 tb ssd instead of 1 on the og/slim ps5 so this alone is worth the price of the drive. some complain for no reason i think. the problem is more the availability of disc drives which are hard to find right now.
@@t4nk3d402 why bother with an external drive when you can have an internal ssd that will also play your ps5 games ? as far i know , you cant play ps5 games from an external drive but can only store them and need to put it on internal drive to be able to play them.

In your case it isn't unreasonable, it's justifiable. Those who already own PS5s probably won't see a reason to upgrade, to trade-in their old unit and get a new upgraded unit. Oh, I'm sure there will be some, but it many not be that many. Imma be real i rarely use the blue ray drive anymore
Some of y’all. I get it’s not for everyone. But it’s worth it for some. Example-
I wanted a ps5 in my family room.
You don't need to listen to what others have to say, or deal with their negativity! Hope you're enjoying that new PS5 Pro! I might just buy one for myself!

Gaming PC is where it's at 😊
Kudos to Sony engineers for making the battery accessible.

Definitely not buying it, rather stick to my original PS5 and PC with RTX 3080.
Fun fact the original ps5 is the true pro model
Exactly.
@@MikeTheGreekcope 😂😂😂😂😂
@@MikeTheGreek I think you're massively underestimating the power of PSSR, and the capabilities of it for the future. I also feel like you're overestimating the current power of the PS5 as most games are failing to hit 60 FPS at native 4K resolution. That's the whole selling point behind the Pro is that PSSR is supposed to bridge the gap for games to run at 60 FPS.
@@faintsignalx*120hz
Small mistake I noticed but the ps4 enhancement mode is actually essentially just an ai sharpening filter over 1080p ps4 games. PS4 games will already run better on the base PS5, so you don't need the pro for it. Although in rare occassions games that don't hit 60fps on the base ps5 can possibly do so on the pro. Also this sharpening filter doesn't work on games that run at any resolution above 1080p internally.

A packed release schedule, content delays, and historic IP pushed console to the next level in 2023
Console will be the biggest games market sector this year after mobile. Console’s impressive +7.4% growth will far outpace mobile (+0.8%) and downloaded/boxed PC (+1.6%).
Several factors are driving the growth of console gaming:
2022 was slower-than-expected for console, despite some big releases (like Elden Ring), so a portion of this year’s growth is more of a return to form.
