  • We bought a shuttle bus and are going to convert it into an RV. This video series will show the technical aspects of the conversion as well as the progress of the conversion. This will be a long series with a different format than most of my project videos.
    This episode covers the demo and removal of the main elements of the passenger compartment; the overhead bins and seats.
    What do you think about the 360 Video?
    What considerations would you have in a Bus to RV conversion?
    What questions do you have on this project?

    360 camera is a nice touch! Almost like playing hide and seek at some points, but it’s fun to have more control over the video.

    We where watching this in a moving car and had a good laugh when the video would “turn” with us going around corners.
    Planning a similar bus project, different mission but like the bus for it’s size and the big windows.
    Curious to see how you set it up

    Good luck on your project I will follow you I think you’re gonna do great you have the right tools A good idea what’re doing,And good hands.
    Why not to use the space in the back for a bathroom and shower and all the extra stuff build a rack on the roof?
    You can use the toilet don’t need the gray tank.

      Thank you Sharon. I'd prefer not to have a roof rack and instead keep the rear storage. We won't be putting in a shower, and instead will just have a toilet stall.

    Ok, so you want to know about the 360 camera... This is just my oppinion:
    - The experience is different and is somewhat cool that we are able to control the view.
    - On the other hand, it makes me need to be moving said view to keep seeing what you are doing... which is fine depending on the situation, sometimes I throw myself in my hammock and I just want to see the video, some other times I am at my desk while working and do not want to be "so distracted" by having to control the view of the video.
    - Quality sucks, I mean, this is youtube and I am not using an 8K TV or anything like that, but the video quality in general is not that good. I do not think this has much to do with your camera, but with the 360 degree aspect of it since is most likely stiching different camera angles together, is not something you can avoid while using a 360 camera.
    Is a bunch of mixed feelings, and I am not hating on the idea, I think that for the application you are using it for is a good idea. A camera operator will probably give the viewer much more detail and motion range while keeping in shot most of the important stuff, but like you said, it lacks context of what is going on, that part is true. However, an operator adds to the complexity and cost of making the video, we know that.
    In any way, my congratulations for actually making the videos and try not to take this things and comments too serious, is very easy to sit and type whatever I want on a website but going out and doing stuff and filming it and sharing it is much more difficult, so keep doing that.
    Final note, I am not a native english speaking person, so my appologies If I misspell any words.
    Cheers!

      Very nice response and thank you for the feedback. Make sure that you have the highest resolution when playing the video. I know the resolution isn't 4K, but it's a trade off in my mind when it's appropriate. I shoot and edit all of my own videos, so I'm not privileged to have an operator work with me and follow me with a camera.

    I would have left that storage above. I have no idea why you would take all that down. I'm trying to figure out how to add that kind of storage above in a school bus. Lol.

    Not the camera I wonder about! It's your methodology! Seats should have came out first, then they wouldn't be in the way when you removed the overheads! I know it's too late, but, the question I have after this vid is Were you careful about cutting the overhead bins to salvage a couple to use in the build?

    The 360 is a great tool and I really like it for this, but you might try and shoot the video so a person could watch it normally, without adjusting the view. On the 360 camera, pick a side to call the front, then when you cut from one scene to the next, re-center what you are working on. There were a couple spots where I lost you because you cut the shot and were in a different spot when you picked back up again. I know I watch youtube on my TV quite a bit and I don't want to have to mess with it throughout the whole video. The same problem exists when using a VR headset to watch, it's nice to be able to look around, but I don't want to be sitting in a chair and have my head turned all the way around for a long period to watch you tinker behind me.

    • @EngineeredWoodworkingandDIY
      @EngineeredWoodworkingandDIY  6 лет назад

      Very good points. I did a couple of test videos before I shot this one. I tried to come back in front of the camera each time when I was talking because I knew that I would be cutting the video. When you watch on your phone (or computer), you can use your finger (or mouse) to recenter the video yourself. In other words, you don't have to physically move your phone to recenter. I watched this video on the TV, and I'm not sure how the viewer recenters the video, but I'm not a RUclips guru.

    I watch videos on a small tablet. For me the 360 just makes the viewable section small. Too small. Sure I can see you doing something at the back of the bus but precisely what? Who knows. Think it's a good tool in some circumstances but only when edited in, not for the whole video. Think you would have better invested time in more and better edited shots, rather than the gimmick.

  • @bren106

    Oh no that 360 is horrible. There may be a use for it in specific parts of a video but for all the filming no. It would cause me to pass watching future video.

    • @EngineeredWoodworkingandDIY
      @EngineeredWoodworkingandDIY  6 лет назад +1

      I'm definitely not doing the 360 on every video, only when it makes sense. This video was just my introduction to the 360 and gauge what people thought. Thanks for the input.

      I've just watched this again on a different screen (a 24 inch and the first was a 19 inch) and the video displayed much better. Don't rush to judgement is the lesson I guess.
