I've built two conversions in my life time of 60 years and this episode is almost 5 years old now and this conversion is still by far one of if not the best conversion I've seen well done. You absolutely can see the vision and great care in details that went into this home something you could live in that wouldn't grow old as some converts don't consider in the build. You're welcome Andy! Thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this one. A road trip across North America has been a long time dream for me too and I have been loving every moment on my travels here.
Sadly, this will be unattainable for many people, especially older women living on their own. They won't be able to do much of it themselves. Many won't have the $$, especially now.
Probably one of my favorite tiny houses and school bus conversions I've seen. Raising that roof really makes a world of difference and the room under there bed could easily be used as extra storage space or a sleeping area for pets for those of us who don't have children. Loving the Harry Potter tattoo she has also. Haha.
I don't think homeschooling is fair on their kid after she reaches proper school going age. I think they should settle somewhere so she can go to school and make friends with kids here own age.
@@keithp6699 I agree that it’s a good idea for this couple to choose to settle down and plants roots in one community in their near future. Living Big In A Tiny House, Tina Gallagher How are they insuring this investment? What guidelines would it fall under? Since they travel & are off the grid. Wouldn't they require an address for insurance purposes or just a p.o. box?
yan ma Yes, insurance. We have tornadoes in Oklahoma, east coast has hurricanes, west coast is known for earthquakes, etc..., I'm pretty sure this is not covered under regular auto insurance. I don't see it qualifying under regular home owners ins. Maybe mobile home ins., even if it is covered under mobile home. Constantly traveling then under what state would one file for the insured policy? Would the ins. cover all the bus upgrades? Ins. rates vary depending upon your geological status. Surely this couple would insure the $30K+ bus investment. I would!
Kristi Robare Good thought. I live in NC and we get all kinds of weather including tornadoes. You wouldn't think it but we do, even more than hurricanes.
This actually looks cooler and more roomy than a lot of the tiny houses, and no loft to climb! This would be even better for two people with no kids. Great job, I love it!
CHARLIEM1010 yea, the only thing I was trying to figure out is where is the toddler going to sleep when she gets too big for that space? Because it doesn't look like there is anywhere else they could make a sleeping space (unless they swap the sofa out for one that is more comfortable as a bed).
the couch turns into a bed ... so when she gets a little older they can remodel her toddler area into something else like a tiny little movie theatre ... lol jk
Okay, this is DEFINITELY my favorite house. I wasn't too fond of bus conversions at first because all the one's I've seen kept the bus' shell intact, so it didn't really feel like a /home/ to me personally. This one does feel like a home, though, and being able to go from driving to getting a drink from the fridge without having to step outside is a plus for me! I'll definitely consider bus conversion when I take the plunge to tiny living.
Absolutely amazing home and at $30k it would put any intentionally built mobile homes to shame for that price. My only question is have they taken into consideration any changes that will be needed for their child as she grows bigger? As always Bryce, cheers and thanks for sharing mate.
+Bickety Bam cheers! And yup, the beauty of this kind of design is that there is plenty of space to evolve the rooms as needed over time. When traveling and exploring the big and beautiful North American continent you don't need such a big space! :)
I see benefits to kids growing up in smaller places. I live in a small apartment in a complex with other apartments that only range up to two bedrooms. This means most kids living here share bedrooms, and they actually go outside and play in the complex park for hours. I think the same would be true with a tiny house, it would encourage kids to get outside and explore more. If a family is living in a large house where everyone has their own rooms, then a lot of kids just end up playing on their computers and watching shows. People interact when there is a smaller shared space more as well. I think there are certain social skills and team building skills that a small space can teach a child that living in a large secluded environment will not provide. A lot of teens are in shock when they go to the dorms to college because they have never had to share space with others.
Well in Southern California housing prices are sky high, so you are lucky your parents can afford for you to have your own bedrooms and be home schooled. Most kids do not have these advantages. I think it is probably better for siblings of different genders to have their own bedrooms, but sisters and brothers sharing a bedroom was very common up until recent times. If a family lives in a tiny house they all learn to share the common space. If gives you certain people management skills some do not who are lucky enough to always have their own room and space.
Okay, I get what you are saying. I reread your comment. I do not think kids of the same gender should share a bedroom, but I do not see the problem with brothers sharing a room with brothers, or a sister sharing the room with her sisters. I shared a room with my sisters growing up and that was just the way things were back then. We learned to get along and respect our own spaces. However, I went to school, so if you are home schooled sharing a room that might be stifling. Maybe your parents can enroll you in some private classes or lessons outside of the house so you can have some time away.
Of course, they built it themselves. Intentionally built mobile homes factor in the labor cost to build the product in the final sale price of the Vehicles so it cost more. Its always going to be cheaper if you do it yourself assuming you know what you are doing.
Unemployed is unemployed, we did the RV thing for 2 years, with 4 people very quickly 3 people, it gets old. That kid is going to grow up and privacy issues are going to be a huge problem.
Go Yourownway exactly the purpose for having this was to travel and not be confined to an area so long... there's people who just don't like to stay in one spot long👍🏼
What an incredible job they did on this bus! So unique and so comfortable. I imagine one option they will have as the child grows older would be to let her have their bed and then Luke and Rachel can move to sleeping on the convertible couch. They could even swap that couch out for one that may be even more comfortable as a bed. If privacy becomes a concern they can install thin tracks on the ceiling that a curtain can be attached to pull around the bed at night. Once again... GREAT JOB LUKE and RACHEL! Raising the roof as you did was brilliant and makes all the difference. I'm sure you will inspire others to do the same. Have an adventure filled and safe summer traveling!
True, they do have enough room in that space to be able to accomodate some change as Charlotte grows up. No doubt they will come up with some unique and interesting modifications to accomodate changes to the family (including a new addition). :)
I have been watching your videos. No one seems to commenting on how much work you put into making these videos. I love your passion and how you show them houses like your own. You make them look better.
I always had wanderlust because I grew up in one house basically. My husband's family moved him around constantly and he rarely spent one grade in the same town. We followed my wanderlust and our kids lived in many houses and we went from Midwest to Pacific Northwest. I think 'in the end' there is something you maybe gain by different experiences, but your children may not feel like they ever had a real home and real roots. I kind of wish we had stayed on the beautiful property we had originally and satisfied my wanderlust with vacations. I'm not sure we're without regrets for giving up everything to try out living close to the ocean. We've made full circle but our kids are stuck in other places. I think both of our sons feel a bit of loss because of that, but they both are beautiful in spirit and devoted to us and for that we can't help but be so grateful!
Guy seems beyond whipped. When talking about the inspirations on who worked on the house, she piped up and said her dad designed the light and she designed the wall seemingly taking away credit from him. And later when hes speaking shes got bitch face staring at him seemingly waiting for him to say something. Shame because hes clearly amazingly talented.
I've seen quite a few videos of people turning buses into homes & it literally looks like a bus with a bed & a table in it but this is amazing. This bus looks like a tiny home inside. It's so cool
Just gorgeous 💗💗 I drove a school bus for 9yrs and I would never ever thought to do this! But I’ve seen a few now and I have to say this one is by far the most beautiful one 💗💗

Their little girl is so lucky. She's going to get a real education traveling the country, not just reading it in text books. That's a really nice home and, I loved.
i would just start to get annoyed living in a house like this (if you can call it that), and the fact that she will never get a full size bed would also be really annoying.

Drove from the east coast through Quebec and on to Toronto. Also drove from Toronto through Northern Ontario to the prairies and on to BC. Both were amazing and can't wait to do it again.
Love, love this bus conversion. High ceilings. Great color scheme. The kitchen way up front looks great, it allows a lot of open space for the living room area. The bathroom is fabulous. The bedroom is great with the baby space. Most impressive. The best that I've seen.
This is such a creative project, also, it's fun to see that such a homey place is fully off the grid. Their daughter can definitely look forward to an amazing childhood. And then probably grow up to be an indoorsy nerd, because that's how these things work! ^_~
I had a friend whose father was constantly moving them around South Africa for his work. She used to tell me she loved constant changes and she’s sort of that extrovert where she could easily meet anyone because of her experience. But she told me one thing that really stuck to my mind until these days and it was her struggle keeping in touch with people. Because she was so used to packing her bags and just left, she had problems making sure she could be loyal to long-distance friendships. Another thing was that she would always need to move her furnitures in her bedroom around because she got bored very easily of stagnant place. If you realized, I used past tense and that’s because I have no idea where she is now. Whenever I texted her, she would reply back weeks later. Keeping in touch with her was quite difficult. But I could only guess she’s been busy with her life. I suppose when you grow up with parents who constantly move, you mature on a different level but lacks that social interaction that most kids would have enjoyed at early age. I think at some points, all parents who decided to do this should also consider their children’s developments - which I am pretty sure they already did and they already had it all planned. After all, parents always want the best for their kids ❤️
Yeah, I have a friend whose family would move to a different country every 2-3 years because her dad works for the embassy. She also had a similar problem, so it's a huge deal for her to be able to stay in touch with a few friends from high school and college. Also she's the only child, so you can imagine how lonely it could get.
Doesn't seem so bad to me born alone die alone , people are fair weather friends or shall I say put into are lives for the moments, can't let any grass grow under these feet ...
I am sure she'll be fine. I moved around alot and part of the joy is learning about the different cultures and meeting new people. You develop and resiliency as a child that I felt was very useful for me. Her parents seems very grounded as well. We don't really know where they'll end up though so they may decide in a year of two to stop travelling. Who knows. Its just great to see people enjoying their lives and doing things for themselves instead of what is typical.
Such a lovely couple! They harmonize and compliment each other. I love what their hard work and imagination have done to the bus....AND, the little girl is so precious. Safe travels sweet little family!!
My son has eight children who are all home schooled. I am so glad they did. Everyone I know who had home schooled has the best children. I met a lady in a large sailboat one day when I worked on a river. She rowed over to the office to ask about grocery stores in the area. She said her husband and her traveled all over the world with their three children and home schooled them. They are now Dr's and one is a lawyer. Home schooled children learn easier, have higher IQ's and never have to deal with the public or private school bullies. I have seen that they are close knit families. Your home is awsome.keep it in the family. Your daughter may want to raise her family one day in it.
at first I was turned off by the idea due to the fact of seeing other busses that are sloppy and messy... BUT this one is very nice. I can see having this to be a home I would live in... very cool home !!!
Nicely done. What a beautiful family they are blessed with a beautiful daughter as well, they have been truly blessed by God what a good and simple life to live.
How sweet that Baby has her own little child-sized nook to hide away in, kids love their little hidden spots! And what a great on-the-road education for her!👍🏻😄 What a gorgeous bus, that curved elevated ceiling really does it- the soft sky blue paint with white trim & lots of pot lights makes it feel like a magical journey! Lots of beautiful wood touches too. Be🐝safe guys & Happy Trails to you all!🐾🌈☮️🇨🇦
Love to see how people can be so creative with smaller spaces and adapt to living a nomadic lifestyle on the road. Cool video. Enjoyed watching. We're traveling the world as a family of 4 so it's great to see other families doing the same and making a home on the road possible for themselves.
A lot of people would say why not just get a motor-home? Well a few things comes to mind. One, to get a motor-home that even comes close to what this thing is would be $150-250 grand if not more. Second, when you buy a motor-home, you can't really make it your own and customize stuff. And lastly, there must be a greater satisfaction knowing how much work went into it and the appreciation value is priceless. What a great bus conversion this is! Great job guys!!!
Motorhomes, especially the older ones which can be had for 20 or 30k (as well as class B and C RVs) are poorly built. They are often made with crappy materials and have roof leaks. A school bus in it's stock structure form is as sealed and sturdy as an Airstream. That is the only thing I would be concerned about in modifiying it like they did here. You have to wonder how the roof and custom body panels will hold up in time. Where as there is no question whether or not the original bus form will pretty much last a lifetime.
@@KeithsReviews They lifted the roof and probably took out the ribs to insulate and put wood up in the roof so who knows. I don't know how this build will stand up to a constant rattle caused by driving hundreds or thousands of miles. Also when the engine goes this thing will be expensive to repair and I'm not sure where you will live during that time. Maybe a hotel while it's in the heavy truck shop? I know I saw a really nice motor home from a pair who drive around, their youtube name was something like Living Cheap, then they say in the comments their motor home cost $500,000 or so. jesus christ
$150-200k is nothing to this couple! It's being filmed at their private lake front property! She was a baker, he owns a business, these aren't people on the down n out. This is a rich couple showing off their high-end DIY.

An absolutely stunningly beautiful home! You have done such a great job on the interior details. I love your beautiful wood floors and the way you did your ceiling. The color combo is just perfect too. Very nice! May you have many years of happy travels in your schooling!
I would say it's a nice bus to have family holiday in. I couldn't live in it as my only home though. I like big spaces and real big houses. I have a feeling after a while I'd be climbing the walls living in this and that goes for all the tiny homes.
Jason Thomas Dolan all human been love big houses and big spaces but when life push you the wrong direction there's no other option then to adapt just thank god every day for your big spaces
Oh yeah! What a striking vehicle at first sight of the exterior. The raised roof also raises the bar for schoolie conversions. Inside the first thing I notice is that phenomenal ceiling...it's gorgeous! I'm a huge fan of natural wood and the tone and character of this does not disappoint. The galley is well planned and executed and has probably been a source of envy for many heh, heh. It is very warm and comfortable and those design details are stunning. I cannot imagine moving in before it was finished, but to do it with a toddler would make it even more challenging (to say the least). She's a sweet little girl and I think the life you're providing will be beneficial for her in many ways. The windows are outstanding as well and I am a major fan of solar so good on ya for that. In this video your "bus" seems like a luxury home and you get to choose your surroundings daily...far-out! I dig it! ...........................PEACE!!
Absolutely astonishing...fabulous work all of your own, and I'm not just talking about your beautiful child! What talented people you are...what Amazing adventures you're gonna have!!** No curtains?...Bon Voyage.!!
At that point they'll probably think about settling down so their daughter can start school etc. Maybe they'll buy property, park the bus and build an extension to it. These kinds of homes are not usually forever (though some definitely do!)
That was exactly what I thought when they said they had a kid and she sleeps in a crib under their bed. It's a cool house, just not really a long term home for a couple with a kid. The kid's not gonna fit in a space under their bed for that much longer.
Rudie Obias You're taking about 10 years into the future!! There's no assumption that things will be exactly the same in the future. They can change the layout, or sell the bus and move into something bigger.
It's amazing -Adults who take the time to socialize with their kids are happier and more fulfilled. And kids who learn to socialize with adults are more mature and respectful so it's a win all the way around. Also, just because you don't see it in a 10 minute video clip, it doesn't mean it's not so... places that they travel to may have opportunity to be around other kids with like minded people. People and things are adaptable - they may decide later on to move the kids sleeping area to the other end of the bus. They will make it work, it may not be conventional, but it will work for them. 😀

Living Big In A Tiny House, Tina Gallagher How are they insuring this investment? What guidelines would it fall under? Since they travel & are off the grid. Wouldn't they require an address for insurance purposes or just a p.o. box?
Insurance?
yan ma Yes, insurance.
Carolyn's Reading Ramblings The couch that turns into a bed..
Wondering the same thing! And it looks like they have a dog too.
the couch turns into a bed ... so when she gets a little older they can remodel her toddler area into something else like a tiny little movie theatre ... lol jk
Of all these
types of homes that I have seen on RUclips this is by far the best.
True! They have done a great job in making this skoolie really feel like a home. When standing inside it really doesn't feel like a vehicle at all.
AeridisArt
LOVING... the "coffered" ceiling! Who would have thought of THAT... and on a CURVE yet!
Its always going to be cheaper if you do it yourself assuming you know what you are doing.
he's driving around doing "odd jobs" ...how about building and selling these buses???
paul Z thatd be sick they’d put RVs to shame
He would be trapped in the same area again but now with employees and long hours. Pretty sure the thought crossed their minds.
Unemployed is unemployed, we did the RV thing for 2 years, with 4 people very quickly 3 people, it gets old. That kid is going to grow up and privacy issues are going to be a huge problem.
I was thinking the same thing. This guy is super talented and creative.
Go Yourownway exactly the purpose for having this was to travel and not be confined to an area so long... there's people who just don't like to stay in one spot long👍🏼
This is waaay bigger than most apt.’s in NY and Cali. Impressive, absolutely Beautiful.
Now that's a bus conversion. Nice work again Bry. Quality video
Thanks!!! Glad you liked this one. :)
LoveMoreJudgeLess build her one of her own. when she can drive it of course. i woulda loved that! i always spent all my time in my car as it was
I have been watching your videos. No one seems to commenting on how much work you put into making these videos. I love your passion and how you show them houses like your own. You make them look better.
That ceiling!! Amazing
Hello Janis
How are you doing today?
What a blessed dude... living in an amazing home, beautiful wife and daughter, chasing dreams.
💯
Guy seems beyond whipped. When talking about the inspirations on who worked on the house, she piped up and said her dad designed the light and she designed the wall seemingly taking away credit from him. And later when hes speaking shes got bitch face staring at him seemingly waiting for him to say something. Shame because hes clearly amazingly talented.
Anyone else just binge watching these Tiny house videos RUclips decided to recommend us?

One of my favorites! LOVE this. Love Living Big In A Tiny House and share often, including now!
Thank-you for watching, and big thanks for sharing!
This is one of the nicest builds I have seen, I would love to live like this.
I've seen quite a few videos of people turning buses into homes & it literally looks like a bus with a bed & a table in it but this is amazing. This bus looks like a tiny home inside. It's so cool
This is one of the most beautiful converted buses I’ve seen. Well done!
The attention to detail is what impresses me. I love the "feel" of this home! And I really love how they use this to teach their daughter.
Hello Ruth how are you doing!!
Just gorgeous 💗💗 I drove a school bus for 9yrs and I would never ever thought to do this! But I’ve seen a few now and I have to say this one is by far the most beautiful one 💗💗
I'm not a fan of busses turned into homes on wheels but this one is definitely the exception to that rule. what a beautiful an amazing home. u can see an feel the love that went into the making of this home. 👍👍
Yup - this one has been done so well that it really doesn't feel like a vehicle when you're inside it.
$30,000? Well done thought it would be way more.
Probably is a really lowball estimate. The real cost is doubtlessly a lot higher (probably closer to $100,000). Cheers
@@Lifeagain2123 much cheaper when you do a lot of the work yourself.
@@Lifeagain2123 get the fuck outa here 100k?? You are seriously overestimating the materials cost, plus they did everything theirselves
Most RVs cost close to 100k so that's an excellent price..
RCmies but this is a school bus not a fucking RV which you’re right is 100k but it aint no RV when you make everything yourself
I would love nothing more than to hire this man for construction related jobs on my property. I have such respect for their life!
He's got a great resume for me.
NASA F hahaha, that’s dumb
This remains one of my favorite buses. they have done a perfect job
Their little girl is so lucky. She's going to get a real education traveling the country, not just reading it in text books. That's a really nice home and, I loved.
i would just start to get annoyed living in a house like this (if you can call it that), and the fact that she will never get a full size bed would also be really annoying.

The most gorgeous bus conversion I've seen, Love it. The ceiling is awsome.💖💖💖
Hello Jennifer how are you doing!!
Hello Jennifer
Drove from the east coast through Quebec and on to Toronto. Also drove from Toronto through Northern Ontario to the prairies and on to BC. Both were amazing and can't wait to do it again.
Love, love this bus conversion. High ceilings. Great color scheme. The kitchen way up front looks great, it allows a lot of open space for the living room area. The bathroom is fabulous. The bedroom is great with the baby space. Most impressive. The best that I've seen.
Same I love it
All because I watched one girl's van tour...

Freaking Alfredo reeled me in.

God bless their home...
I would love this lifestyle, but I can't imagine doing it with a kid
I bet they'd live it. They could have a hideout under the bed while they're small. What kid wouldn't love that?
He did all the labor...thats why so cheap. That bus is amazing...i would definitely want one.
I love how they raised the ceiling and there's enough space while standing, and also the side stairs leading to their bed,Great job guys!!
This is such a creative project, also, it's fun to see that such a homey place is fully off the grid. Their daughter can definitely look forward to an amazing childhood. And then probably grow up to be an indoorsy nerd, because that's how these things work! ^_~
I really like the person who is interviewing..
The way he appreciates the efforts of the owners is incredible
He’s got a big dick too.
Why would anybody give this a thumbs down this is awesome!!!
After all, parents always want the best for their kids ❤️
that kid needs a sibling .
@@acrosstheuniverse3331 it just allow to give you one of thumbs up, but if it's up to me i'll give you more likes, i'm totally agree with you.

You're talking about my childhood home, jerk!
I have been watching the conversions people have done to there buses. This one by far is the best I’ve seen thus far. It is a great job done.
Nicely done. What a beautiful family they are blessed with a beautiful daughter as well, they have been truly blessed by God what a good and simple life to live.

Love to see how people can be so creative with smaller spaces and adapt to living a nomadic lifestyle on the road. Cool video. Enjoyed watching. We're traveling the world as a family of 4 so it's great to see other families doing the same and making a home on the road possible for themselves.
The Chiang Gang has been gone
@@nopejoeandangie Lol yeah man. Some of those class A rigs cost more than most average priced homes. They sure are nice though.
$150-200k is nothing to this couple!

What talented people you are...what Amazing adventures you're gonna have!!**

Awesome home, I love it, but just one question, what are they going to do when their daughter gets older and needs more space for a bed?
Zella Bee duh move things around and make a diff area for her
DAT Fursuiter hah, where? That house is so tiny.
The couch is pretty big. I've known lots of kids that prefer sleeping on their parents couch anyway
How is this living situation going to work when that kid is a teenager? Good luck!
Rudie Obias
You're taking about 10 years into the future!! There's no assumption that things will be exactly the same in the future. They can change the layout, or sell the bus and move into something bigger.
Rudie Obias who will that kid socialize with others
It's amazing -Adults who take the time to socialize with their kids are happier and more fulfilled. And kids who learn to socialize with adults are more mature and respectful so it's a win all the way around. Also, just because you don't see it in a 10 minute video clip, it doesn't mean it's not so... places that they travel to may have opportunity to be around other kids with like minded people. People and things are adaptable - they may decide later on to move the kids sleeping area to the other end of the bus. They will make it work, it may not be conventional, but it will work for them. 😀
That's no place for any child to live it's waaaaaay too small! It's ok without the child
Things like this are just an adventure. They will be out of this and into a regular home in less than 10 years.........
the most impressive thing about all of this is that their 2 y/o knows 13 states on the map. there's a lot of adults that cannot do that
I agree, many adults don't even understand the new sentences begin with a capital letter.
