Most of the time van life is totally safe! The security features are more for monitoring JUST in case some one breaks in while we're away. It's also primarily there so we can keep an eye on the dog via the camera and thermometer. We actually just made a video about safety in a van that should be up in the next couple of weeks. :)
@(ChildrenOfBlueMoon) "nothing especially secure" the first thing they show is simply safe and their glass break sensor, two things many people dont even have in their houses, but yeah no guns will make this better...
This van life movement is truly an equalizer revolution. It's a big FU to landlord greed. Very empowering. And it's bringing out amazing, cutting edge ideas that involves physics, geometry, engineering, craftsmanship, design, functionality and aesthetics. Bravo!!!
@@crodr077 Van lifers buy old vans dirt cheap and renovate them - DIY on a low budget. That's the point. Principle is much like the tiny house movement. @@crodr077 Yep, and when it gets into an accident, the insurance company is only going to give you the value of a regular van. So, if you built it up like this & it's "worth" $120k, insurance is going to give you about $20k for your used van.

Ian9toes 🤣😂 exactly what I was thinking, how about just get a gun, book problem solved. What the hell is an alarm gonna do? No crap, maybe if if were a house it would scare someone off but not when it comes to cars . People know an alarm will go off more than half the time if you’re going to break into a car. Turns out people generally don’t rob areas where the know people have guns who would thought 🤷♂️... libtards will swear up and down it’s the opposite yet every statistic proves my statement.
Damn, imagine doing the screens hidden under the tabletop and being deployed by a simple hinge system, similar to the cooktop but the screens would be bolted on the inside of the top. You could also hide two mac minies under the table and have an ultra stealth workstation that can turn from meal table to office table in a hearthbeat.
I've seen van builds with 900+ ah capacity which at 300 watts would get you 15 hours run time before you deplete the battery bank down to 50% remaining charge.
This is one of the if not _the_ most impressive converted van I've seen - includes everything I'm looking for (workstation, kitchen, bathroom _with _*_shower_* ) and it still looks somewhat roomy. Oh and there's a lovely pet! Amazing work, and love the video presentation too! Would've loved to see the garage in the same video though! _(Also quick feedback - focus more on what Sara mentions than on herself - Some bits of the editing do show some of the stuff but most of the time she's describing something and the camera is right at her)_
Likewise. So I started by drawing it on paper. Typing a list of specs on my Google Docs. Telling friends and praying. Watching more of these vids and taking notes on that Google Docs file with my ideal specs on it. They are my ideal specs as if I had unlimited funds instead of no funds at all. When you do it that way you can always go cheaper when you're actually doing it, like when your supermarket run is more expensive than the money you brought and you have to decide which items to put back. The ideal specs list is the ideal starting point and if you have to cut it down to a lower budget (likely) you can cross off whatever you were able to do and the rest of it becomes your wish list. You can make upgrades when you come into more money. That's what I'm planning to do. have no idea how, but I'm going to do this. Say that to yourselves in a confident tone even if you have to fake it at first and see what happens!
Well you guys may have sold me on VanLife. Initially, there was no way. I have always wanted an airstream, that was it for me. But, this video really has me thinking. I’m a traveling PTA (like a travel nurse) for the past 5 yrs and I have started thinking about tiny home living (especially since I have sold everything and am down to what fits in my civic, with my 90lb dog and a small storage unit that holds military & non-replaceable memories. My house is under a property management company for renting. So basically I am a gypsy who rents Airbnb’s and hotels every 3 months. A van could make things easier because I could sleep in the parking lot at my job, as long as I can tow my civic behind the van....or with the money I save, I can ship my car or the van. Your van has me really thinking, as I step into 2 yrs of traveling in California.
Imagine spending 80k on a van and still have to pay gas and insurance! Awesome van but im to broke for that, ill lay in my single bed and enjoy the money i save to travel to festivals.

Hi Sara & Cris. I really just love this van! You both have done a fantastic job. Back in 1977, I lived in my converted van that we did ourselves, on Maui, right on the beach for 7 amazing months. (You can't do that any more!) Van life is very addicting & I loved every day of my life back then. I'm beyond impressed to see how decked out a van can really be today & this lifestyle is something that I can't stop thinking of. I'm still proud of the simple job we had done way back then, as it met all of our needs. When finding a place to sleep at night became impossible, I continued to live off of the grid for 2 more years in a small home. I know that I could easily convert back to life with out power, once again, if needed in today's life. I'm thrilled to see how stunningly beautiful one can live off the grind in 2020. Really just WOW, great job to both of you!!! I also really appreciate all of the links that you have included below. Thank you for such a lovely video. My best wishes to you both. I promise that when this does come to an end, you will never forget this great time in your life. God Bless you both.
Mahogony's Lifestyle! Clearly. I know what I said and I know the meaning behind why I said it. Never did I say that this lifestyle was ideal living there for the rest of your life. Its just a good idea for people who want to travel without the hassle for paying for unnecessary things.
Noah's Ark will pull up next to them first before those Spices looses any Flavor!, Don't Sweat it!! You worry too much!!! You just make sure you vote for Trump again!
Ugh I just want this so bad, I’m just thinking of my life in this van. I’m one person so I could have so much extra space with half of that desk for more clothes and shoes (my guilty pleasures😭) and if I took the passenger seat out! Ugh I love the build
Heaven Green I wouldn’t recommend taking the passenger seat out - but do what these people did and get a swivel seat! It’s illegal in most countries to a) not wear a seatbelt and b) be in the back of the van fullstop. If you’re travelling with friends or are in a relationship it’s absolutely worth having for the sake of comfort and legality...
Honestly... if you collect more than 3-4 pairs of shoes (sneakers, boots, dressy shoes, and sandals), then the limited space of Van life probably is not for you. No offense, I mean I can’t fit all my stuff in a large van (Video games, too many clothes, tons of headphones I review) either, it’s just that with the limited space of a Van you can’t really collect anything. Only stuff you bring INTO a van once you’re set up is restocking food & replacing parts.
A single mountain biker made a home from a van and it wash less polished but built better imo I forget the vid tho he also spent $30 or something so much less then this
I’ve seen many van conversions and this is one of the VERY BEST I’ve ever seen. Not only do you have all of the creature comforts but everything is extremely well placed, designed, and beautiful! Anytime I see a van conversion with a multi burner stove with a full oven and a full shower/ actually toilet, I know this is a real deal home. In addition to that you guys have a king sized bed and an office area for maximum comfort and ease for sleeping and working. I absolutely love your stainless steel cabinets but the creme de la creme for me is an actual rear air conditioner. I tend to run hot when I sleep and so I know that would be a feature that I couldn’t live without. This is a beautiful mobile home and I can tell that you guys live very comfortable being on the go and on the road. In all honesty you both have done an excellent job and I’m quite jealous! I wish you the best! Cheers!
Hands down the best conversion I’ve seen. Hard to believe you can fit two iMacs side by side quite comfortably. Your dog is gorgeous too 🙂 Excited to see your channel grow.
IMHO i think it's not very ergonomically at this viewing distance. The iMacs stand steals some of the depths. I would use a thin adjustable mount to install a display directly to wall to maximize the viewing distance and to watch videos from the bed. Depending of the viewing distance i would maybe also go from 27 inch down to 24 inch to reduce head movement.
After watching so many van converted tiny mobile homes, I like yours the most . Cuz we are non negotiable with the size of bed , it has to be the king !
With respect, if you are involved in an accident, all those bare knives on a magnetic strip become missiles. Too damned dangerous for my comfort level.
@@Ijusthopeitsquick It's pretty hard to know where they will end up if, God forbid, the van is involved in an accident. If the van rolls or skids on an icy road and has some sort of lateral impact for instance, the forces are moving in other directions. In my conversion the two 300AH lith ion batteries weigh 86 pounds each. My Dometic fridge weights 70 pounds empty, perhaps 100 pounds full. Building frames and cages that keep them from going anywhere in an accident was high priority. I ended up building aluminum frames and bolting each to the chassis of the Sprinter. For me the basic rule is to ask yourself whether anything not stored securely away while in motion could hurt you in an accident. If so, secure it.

Hey guys! I just wanna say I've been watching a bunch of van life videos in the past few days and this is definitely the most impressive and advanced one I've seen
The only change I'd make would be to add a "skylight" in the roof. Would help lighten the whole thing up, seeing as most of the windows are blocked or tiny. Unless they have solar panels on the roof?
Start saving up now. In 5 or 6 years, you can buy a van for your first car and convert it the way you want. I think it’s awesome that you are already dreaming about it. I am 38, married, living the van life, and dreaming of my perfect van. The dream is half the fun!
This is by far the coolest van conversion I have seen. I love that you were able to bring your computers with you, bolting them down the way you did was a really great idea.
What a cool way to travel. I am always surprised how much of a difference it makes to place materials into vans or caravans that are normally placed in a residence. The tiles, the stainless steel cupboards and timber/veneer finishes and timber look-a-like vinyl floors give the van such a homely feel. It is beautiful. Loved the magnetic spice boxes, would make cooking easier and fun and the propane super stove looks decent- lol- it makes me want to cook up a storm now. Shower and toilet make it a really independent option for travelling as well. Finally, I have to say that the presenter is lovely, she has a great casual way to show her van home to you, just like your friend. Great van conversion. Loved it.
Absolutely top notch home on wheels! Brilliantly laid out, beautifully clean, everything has a place, one of my favourite vans to date. Happy traveling!
First van build video I haven't bailed on after the first 5 minutes of no bathroom, bad design, and no office space...Congratulations!! Beautiful conversion and hits all my must have points! enjoy!
No one is perfect, I watch them all and most are interesting. Each person has their own tastes and needs. You want a nice set up like this, then you better have plenty of money to fork up. Their design is nice but the quality of materials and other components used looks expensive.
@@silentxcure I have done 3 years of van life..thank you for inquiring..I am now looking at designs that suit what I am interested in..again thank you for your in depth insight.
Gwen Wittig completely understandable . But don’t you think bailing on van build videos make you miss out on a lot of inspiring ideas for your own van? Even if it’s not your aesthetic, or not as quality as you’d like, you can still get an idea from a build video and put your own twist on it. I’ve been watching this billionaire speak and he says that he will go to motivational seminars and 90% of them are literally the same, but if he can learn even one thing out of it each seminar, it’s worth going to. Just my opinion. To each their own
@@silentxcure I do view other builds..currently Justincredible is working on his step van, which is a radical change for him. He always has excellent designs. My point of why I don't view videos of builds that don't incorporate what I'm looking for is simple.. by and large and for the most part it is not what I am interested in. I wish to have something that is liveable and sustainable for me. Low ceilinged cargo vans, vehicles that aren't insulated, vans that have zero storage and videos of people's vans that are unkempt and slovenly, aren't worth wasting my time viewing.
Everybody complaining about no AC, don’t forget the vehicle has AC when running. And it has a diesel motor, so not a huge fuel burden to run the engine at idle in high humidity or temp situations... spray foam will REALLY limit the need for AC in this vehicle. Don’t forget, to run AC, they would need FAR more solar, and a huge battery bank.
Stay away from the Sunbelt during about 8 months of the year- without A/C that van will be as warm as a crock pot. It is not just the heat- it is the humidity.
Why is it architects and engineers feel the need to always find away to broadcast what they do for a living... I just don't get it. Shrug..... I guess I better get back to being a paramedic now
@@ttss5726 Well, if the subject is "van conversion", it's pertinent that an engineer or architect is planning one. IMMEDIATELY, upon reading her comment, I thought how I'd love to see her van conversion when she does one, AND I would hope the video detailed how her training and experience as an architect influenced it. Why be so petty? ANYONE who has expertise in any field that helps in van conversion is a plus to hear from. So, I also love to hear from carpenters and licensed electrician. Or automotive experts.
Haven't you ever seen the video where dude buys homless people shoes socks backpacks n all kinds of stuff they need and a couple hours later amazon workers come up to guy sitting on corner n delivered it
I had to repair the front axle of my Mercedes Unimog once, on the side of the road in Poland. I orded the parts from a Mercedes dealer near Warswa ( by cellphone ) and a courier delivered everything to the front of the fish factory where I was ended . I used the forest tables from a parking a bit further to clean and put togheter parts, and I could go on again. I never drink coffee so, did'nt needed a Starbucks. But I think the parking of a Starbucks is better then the side of the road to repair a 7,5 ton truck. ( the problem with the front axle and the why is for Unimog owners not a question; or they had already the same problem, or somebody they know had it and could warn them : keep an eye on the oil level, for sure on the drivers side, even when it's only to controle by unscrewing a bolt... unless you have the custom made oil level and return set mounted . And even better, custom made free-wheels when 4x4 is not needed, at high speed long time on normal roads )
Every van build I've ever seen seemed small, crowded and lacked obvious features, but THIS IS AMAZING. I particularly love that you have a real workspace. Very well done!!
Probably the first van in the history of the internet with a proper desk/computer chair set up although those chairs look like a back problem waiting to happen if you sat in them for more than an hour :) Still think something bigger like a truck is needed personally for full time living but your build is one of the most sensible Ive seen yet and Ive seen literally 100's.
Jayme Capurso hahaha. They are actually pretty comfortable. The other great thing is we can leave the chairs under the desk and stand to use the computers.
Saw this video and decided to step it up a notch, my girlfriend and I just bought a full sized locomotive we are converting to travel in the winter. Will post progress pictures.
One of the very very few DIY vans that I think is awesome. Yours is at the top of that short list. This coming from a 17 year van life addict. Very nice!Subscribed.
Let's Be Us Use your current mounts to secure it to another board. Buy as large diameter dowel as you can find. Square the ends a bit. Trace the ends onto the board your using as a mount as well as another that goes under the desk. But those holes out slightly undersized. Cut a slightly oversized hole through the desk. Sand the dowel until it fits snug into the boards and use wood glue to secure them all together through the desk. With all that surface area, the wood glue will be incredibly strong. As long as you don’t accidentally glue the boards to the desk, the whole thing will swivel.
@@chrisandsara alternatively, you could use a roller blind type white screen with black out on the back where you have the black curtain... and use it as a screen and mount a projection unit above the bed so you can watch in bed... just a thought!
Honestly like wtf, you guys just killed the van game. Been watching van vids for a minute and planning to do my own soon. You perfected the minute details required for comfortable, long-term and functional living. Super well done; thanks for sharing 👏👏👏
With all these expenses and updated and fancier things for a van life are you still able to save or are your finances more/ same when your living in a house? I guess traveling is the perk though but the whole minimual life style intrigues me and would be a perk to be able to save money and live a free feeling life style.
My understanding is that, unless you're going luxury, the initial cost is quite high (although less than buying a house) but you save a lot more long term. Plus you get to travel, which is awesome.
I have literally watched hundreds of different van tour videos, your van ranks in my personal top 10 with one or two tiny changes, well done guys, very well thought out and as close as damn is to swearing, Perfect, I am envious :)
I'm really diggin' the desk along with the matching counter tops. The stainless steel cupboards are a great touch. I hope your tile keeps up, the flexible grout should help a lot for that. Nice clean design with many features; fantastic! :)
This has forced my to reavaluate my life choices when a van conversion is more luxurious than my house! Seriously great job guys. I hope to do something similar with my Transporter one day, even with my furniture maker partner it won't be as perfect as yours.
Best van tour I've seen in a while - but doesn't it drive you crazy that the wood cover for the stovetop flips up and covers the magnet full of knives and cooking tools????
Not really, actually. Because we don’t have a ton of counter space anyway I typically do all the prep work like cutting veggies and such on the counter section that covers the stove prior to ever turning the oven/stove on. ☺️
@@chrisandsara I do not believe you both would go so far as to every detail in your mobile home, to not prep some little things for your convenience. This is the best mobile tour I have seen that completes daily life necessities for comforts.
Those magnets work perfectly I have the same ones at-home full of knives and all sorts of dangerous stuff. They never fall off they use a very powerful magnet.
Honestly, why don't they just build actual apartments with this floor plan? It's like less than 100 sq ft. It would solve the housing crisis immediately.
A van has benefits. You can explore new places. You aren't confined, or stuck in the city, and it is generally a choice (when outfitted like this). If I lived in an apartment the same way I lived in a van, I would be miserable. It would be awful being so confined and dealing with all the downsides of tiny living, without the benefits that make it worthwhile. Especially since it would be to help someone else's profits and not my quality of life, like a van does.

Most of the time van life is totally safe! The security features are more for monitoring JUST in case some one breaks in while we're away. It's also primarily there so we can keep an eye on the dog via the camera and thermometer. We actually just made a video about safety in a van that should be up in the next couple of weeks. :)
@(ChildrenOfBlueMoon) Everyone feels comfortable with different deterrents such as guns, bear spray, etc., so we just didn't touch on that.
Now, this van could SELL for $120k because someone like you in the market put that value for it. So, the van lifer who made this just created a TON of dollar value for his renovated van. Win-win!
@@crodr077 Yep, and when it gets into an accident, the insurance company is only going to give you the value of a regular van. So, if you built it up like this & it's "worth" $120k, insurance is going to give you about $20k for your used van.

No crap, maybe if if were a house it would scare someone off but not when it comes to cars . People know an alarm will go off more than half the time if you’re going to break into a car. Guns mean less crime. Chicago strictest guns laws high crime rate, texas has good guns laws less crime.

You dont. You won't be able to use both of those desktops very long. Even if they somehow have like a 300 watt panel.
@@Mockedarchie I know those monitors going at once might last a couple of hours max. And then it'll depend on how many batteries they have?
I've seen van builds with 900+ ah capacity which at 300 watts would get you 15 hours run time before you deplete the battery bank down to 50% remaining charge.

This's the first step man go to the next one!!! piece by piece it turns easy!
Buy a pickup to pull an airstream, lose the civic

Just don't live in a van full time
Honestly... if you collect more than 3-4 pairs of shoes (sneakers, boots, dressy shoes, and sandals), then the limited space of Van life probably is not for you.

I was about to say the same!! The shower position is perfect! the work desk is perfect!! I would have loved to see the garage though.
Yep u r very gorgeous ya girl ya 👯
They would be in the driver's and passenger's seats if they were in a collision, not in the living area.
@@Ijusthopeitsquick and if you have a front crash the knives goes to....
@ In a front end collision violent enough to detach knives from flat magnets and hurl them through or around 80 lb seats and head restraints - you've got more serious problems than those knives.

All of the vans I’ve seen have not felt like a real home but this one does.
Alexis Ash it has no couch/comfortable seating nor a real place to eat dinner. What a waste of space is a king-size bed.

The only change I'd make would be to add a "skylight" in the roof. Would help lighten the whole thing up, seeing as most of the windows are blocked or tiny. Unless they have solar panels on the roof?

My favorite van conversion so far...loving the layout especially the shower.
Their design is nice but the quality of materials and other components used looks expensive.
then maybe van life isnt for you...i learn something from every video and get ideas from even the most basic designs.
This is the most security I've seen in a van life video so far

Everybody complaining about no AC, don’t forget the vehicle has AC when running. And it has a diesel motor, so not a huge fuel burden to run the engine at idle in high humidity or temp situations... spray foam will REALLY limit the need for AC in this vehicle.
Don’t forget, to run AC, they would need FAR more solar, and a huge battery bank.
SuperVstech 🙌🙌🙌
just put on a fan and open a window like the rest of the world, u dont NEED AC

And even better, custom made free-wheels when 4x4 is not needed, at high speed long time on normal roads )
just buy whatever you need in a store

ever though of having the left mac on a swivel so you can watch the screen in bed?
Good idea.
that would be IDEAL! We looked for mounts that we secure and swiveled but couldn't find exactly what we wanted unfortunately.
There is another video where the guy uses a projector and fold down screen, it was pretty cheap and didn't take up much space

Really impressive build.
I appreciate your simple, yet highly functional format combined with a clean and warm aesthetic.
Honestly, why don't they just build actual apartments with this floor plan? It's like less than 100 sq ft. It would solve the housing crisis immediately.
Look up Tiny Houses. It's gaining momentum on a larger scale for exactly that reason
And maybe because they like to be on the road and travel a lot
A van has benefits. You can explore new places. You aren't confined, or stuck in the city, and it is generally a choice (when outfitted like this). If I lived in an apartment the same way I lived in a van, I would be miserable. It would be awful being so confined and dealing with all the downsides of tiny living, without the benefits that make it worthwhile. Especially since it would be to help someone else's profits and not my quality of life, like a van does.
i'm only 14 but me and my best friend have been planning on being van lifers for two years now lol, so watching your video and other videos helped us a lot with landscaping ideas and more! so thanks for your amazing content! it really inspired us!
I was so curious how those people living on a van take a bath. Finally found one with a shower! And a fridge!!!!
most people get a gym membership
There are some truck stops and camping locations that offer showers. Plus most gyms offer a day pass!
@@Karla_767 But what happened to all those people during lockdown when all the gyms were closed? Where did they shower?
@@jgjg3848 You can shower outside with a solar/portable shower OR just use your sink for a birdbath. Truck stop showers work too, and are nicer than they sound
I do have one question. How much did you invest into this conversion?
How it looks..... Alot
I'd say ~60k including the van
@@smirnoffvodka2618 Easily.
@@smirnoffvodka2618 Its a mercedes van, so new $50k two years used 4300$ lol
Brian Fisher 6 hundred thousand
Seeing those Apple Macs I feel like they have airpods
They have street smarts too
Ngl I am a bit confused as to why they went with Macs as opposed to sticking a laptop in there with an extra screen or something. Or just sticking a regular PC in there. Probably would work out cheaper.
Alpen they probably have a lot of money.
@@byiino Still more money that they didnt need to spend. People with money dont keep their money by wasting it.
Alpen Or they just like Macs? People who like macs exist.
I've watched a lot of conversion videos, Your conversion is simply the VERY BEST.
Thank you!
Idk but I find these types of videos so interesting it’s better then most the things on RUclips
ITS NAT 🤣🤣🥴🥴 I’ve been binge watching these videos!
CassieNicole frrr
ITS NAT 🥴🥴🥴 with less less $200 to my name🤷🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤣
Great build! Just hard to see what she's talking about as the camera is focused on her and not where she's pointing (soap dispenser, under the cabinets, inside the fridge etc.)
Thanks for the input! We're taking notes and planning a longer van tour sometime soon. We'll be sure to add that!
Yes, understandable why that happened, but good point. Great van build. Love the planning and intentionality.
@@chrisandsara yes please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I actually liked the camera on her. She is very nice on the eyes. The music was a bit distracting, especially at the beginning. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the tour of your build. VERY nice setup you have got there.
@@chrisandsara - and No Music Necessary.... it was sometimes hard to hear certain words, thank goodness you put links to some of the items "down below", and We are all Really interested in learning about your build.
I think it is Clean and functional, Beautiful...
(new subbie)
Oh my gosh, I love your van, and you presented so well; informative without overkill on the details 💗
This is by far the best self-converted van I have ever seen. Perfection.
Best van conversion I’ve seen. Like literally everything I’d want How I’d want it.
after watching one video with a girl and her snake living in a van, ive been watching at least five of these videos each day
The picture the camera took of the dog is the cutest thing 😂
Best van on RUclips, crazy awesome, I've hunted for the best design and yours beat most...
Sure, when I build mine it will be different from yours, BUT yours is so cool and complete that even taking it as a base and downgrading it to my own requirements it will still be crazy good.
Well done guys and THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING, MUCH APPRECIATED
Really well stacked. Well stacked. And, I love the wiring (esp the dimmer) and the finishes you guys chose. Great.
Great presentation. Curious to know: (1) ..is this the extended model Sprinter? (2) ..more about the insulation and the lack of a.c. - - specifically how hot can the temp be outside an yet it is no hotter than say...72 inside? I saw a similar van conversion and the people went to Mexico and sweated their butts off. Sleeping in a small, hot van is NO fun (3) .. where do you two sit to eat? (4) ..how much floor space do you calculate to have (5) ..what was your reasoning for not installing a skylight of some sort? (it looks kind of dark inside).
Thx
Loved the picture of the dog smiling into the camera lol. He's so cute😍😍😍
Treasure's Pandora when that picture popped up it scared me

Beautiful van , the best protection for your van not to get stolen is a hidden kill switch, I would put one on in that van quick , specially coming around my neighborhood Boston Mass lol
A PROFESSIONAL quality build, dynamic layout, and....the PRESENTATION is PROFESSIONAL.
