- We bought a shuttle bus and are going to convert it into an RV. This video series will show the technical aspects of the conversion as well as the progress of the conversion. This will be a long series with a different format than most of my project videos.
This episode covers the introduction of the bus with a walk-around and walk-through. I also identify a broad vision for the conversion.
What considerations would you have in a Bus to RV conversion?
What questions do you have on this project?

The box on the left is for high idle. You can set your RPMs when you're stationary to keep from draining your battery. I'd recommend keeping it.
VERY COOL MAN...Looking forward for this build
awesome idea, looks like a really great truck.
Beautiful unit!
Very cool! New to the channel, and I look forward to seeing your process on this. I would like to do a bus conversion eventually, but for now I’m just a poor college student. Best of luck to you!
i realy like the fact that its a pickup style cab and not a van type , it makes working on the engine / having the engine worked on a LOT eazier , it still looks like a pretty big bus though
the big bed for all the kids would work but only untill the first of the kids gets to be about 10 years old , then they prolly would like a place to retreat to and be on their own for a bit
it might be a better idea to make stacked sleep cubicles with a gangway through the midde or an L shaped bunkbed setup each with its own reading light maibe some storage for personal things / old laptop for television (kobi when wifi is available ) dvd's and games , shouldn't take a lot more space then one big matras and would give them more personal space
there plenty of those type of rv bunkbed cubicle builds on the internet , most have storage space under the lift up matres and a cabinet / shelves in a corner
you could add a fold down railing or netting in front of the cubicles to prevent the smaller kids from falling out or go exploring
if some of the gleu of the letters give you problems try finding a caramel disk , its a special rubber wheel you put on a drill to rub vinyl and the glue off without hurting the paint
if you can keep the storagespace in the back it might be a nice place to store bikes and outdoorgear , it might allso be a good place for the batteries if youre planning on using solar and the generator if youre not
think an awning would be a nice feature if youre planning on staying at places for a longer time and spend a lot of time outdoors i would suggest having some start override switch build in so you cant drive away with the awning out
if the people in the back do get carsick due to the lack of forward vision you could add a flatscreen tv in the front showing the view of a forward facing webcam , the webcam can record like a dashcam for insurance stuff and the tv does double duty as a tv offcourse
looking forward to seeing you build the rv out
Sweet!
I have a retired ambulance that I've been toying with converting. I had been using it for a rolling workshop, but just too expensive to maintain for the short stops I was running. It would work better for all day or all week projects. The high idle is nice for running the AC when I'm parked somewhere using it as my mobile office.
Cool idea. One thing noted is that some propane camp stoves don't completely combust the propane so there is dangerous gas in the air, hence why they say "Outside use only"
I am contemplating a similar build. I prefer the 7.3.....one concern for you (mine will be a 4 door cab, three kids) is the crash survivability of the rear box on your rig. I have extensive experience in inventions, fabricating and building. If it we're a ambulance box, they are made with 4020 high strength aluminum I beam (legally have to be crash survivable) and in fact I have a Life Line ambi box here. Additionally, ambi boxes also have some insulation. I have had/and have two 550's...great units ....wolf in sheep's clothing. Just please please research the crash survivability issue...perhaps harden first few rows of seats external "shell".....perhaps internal high stretch aluminum cage of sorts. Require your kids to stay in that area when your rolling. . R
What is the interior width at the floor and at the top of the walls. I'll need it to start a layout for my future build.
Thanks.
Just found your channel. New sub!
Dang was hoping this was old. My family is in a similar situation, but we have 3 children. Interested in seeing the outcome!
I'm subscribing, I totally want to know what your up too. Love it.
Michael M. new episode coming this week.
What make and model is the bus? How long is the shuttle bus?
Hello, I also want to convert and live in a bus 😊 is the gas mileage better for a shuttle bus or regular school bus type? How many mpg does yours get?
How long is the bus?
I'd love to know the same
Where did you buy the rubber seals on the door
I haven't been able to find any seals. : ( If anyone finds some, let me know. $
Hello : First time I've seen you. I've been thinking and looking online at a lot of these shuttle buses to maybe travel full time in and pretty sure it will be one and then I saw you. Just wanted to ask. Is your family going to live in it full time ??? I had a 24' RV that was really nice but after taking a few trips in it. I sold it. Not made tough enough for me and had to much in it and not enough living space. I want something simple and serviceable . Thanks :)
Hi there. We only plan on using it on camping trips instead of setting up tents as well as long trips.
How long should these buses last? Looking to buy a bus locally. 150k, 2005 for $3400.
Ford 2005 E450
+Claudio Rivera it depends on the motor. The 7.3L Powerstroke should last 300k+ miles. Yours sounds like a good buy.
What is "Too long"??? Tell me NOW, so I don't make the mistake. I NEED to know this info. please?
You need to get rid of the 2 and put "to" right now
Uriel : I noted that he said that he had already had 1 bus, and it was too big. This one is number 2, hence the 2 in the title.
8:15 You really don't know what a cassette deck is, or were you referring to something else?
It's a ford f550
With 4 kids in one bed? I mean no way! I would not even like that at all!
Kathleen Winser I've since changed the floor plan. Each kid will have their own bed. Stay tuned for the floor plan video
How much did you pay for your bus?
$5k
