  • Description in the title, Review below.
    Valheim is a game with some issues. It's fun with friends but isn't a great multiplayer game on account of some poor design choices. Very tedious and some balance issues if played alone. Not worth your time unless you have a solid group of friends to play it with regularly. If you do though you will have an alright time.

    Thing is, I don't play video games, but I learn a lot about blacksmithing tools and workshops with these reviews.

    I love that opening line. I think it's long past time I recommended this series to my blacksmith friend.

    Maybe you have to beat on the forge to get it going like giving a cathode ray tv a smacking to stop it from rolling.

    I would love to see you review Giant's Plateau in Old School Runescape! The managment of heat is really interesting and captures that feeling of "okay one more strike and then I gotta get this back in the forge"

    Interesting stuff. Would love to see some of your blacksmithing videos. My area of expertise is woodworking. I've always wanted to make some woodworking hand tools, chisels, etc but haven't had the chance to delve into it yet

    Vintage Story has a lot depth in its blacksmithing mechanics, if you're still interested in making these it could be a good video.

    it would be alot of work potentially, but the smithing in Vintage Story is pretty awesome. Its a Minecraft-alike but with a much greater focus on the minutia of survival. You have to flint map your stone tools, fire clay in pit kilns, and actually hammer metal. Even if you dont want to do a video about it, you might just like playing it tbh.

    Just commenting to say that I liked your recent Napoleon video and agreed with a lot of what you said. It's sad that people were disrespectful in the comments although I'm not surprised :(

      It is what it is. Besides which I should probably have been more diplomatic in my language.

    I know you're doing fantasy or medieval stuff but will you consider doing stuff for something like Fallout.
    Actually I'd like to see modern blacksmithing stuff too, even if they're almost always gonna be gunsmiths.

    In defence of the five person development team of Valheim; it is a simplistic survival/crafting game where you put everything where they are. Yes, you are right but hey, game is simple. It is not very fair to judge it like you did with the other games like Skyrim or Kingdom Come where the environment is designed by the artists hands and are fixed. If you go take this route, next you will be reviewing Minecraft :D Not a smithy review but if you are interested, you can look into the representation of Haudenosaunee in the game Age of Empires 3. It is a lengthy subject, and a very different can of worms, so you decide. I remember years ago, the game received backlash from the nations represented and reworked all the Native American and First Nations it included. I personally detest AoE series in many regards, especially how it handles our interactions with the natural world and resources. But it is good fun wagin' war against my brother and smashin'.

      The only way to evaluate smithing in video games is coldly and mercilessly, without consideration for the size of the team! You will be judged!

    • @tryllon4774
      @tryllon4774 4 месяца назад

      @@HydraulicDesign I get it, my point is Valheim is not worthy of this kind of evaluation :D Say Skyrim, made by multi-national, multi-millionaire company who dominates the industry for many years. Say Kingdom Come, made by medieval enthusiasts who prioritised authenticity and so on :)

      I wholeheartedly agree with you that it isn't really a fair comparison. It isn't really meant to be. I'm comparing game to reality, in a comparison like that it's a foregone conclusion that the game will fall short. The developers can't reasonably be expected to be expert in everything.

    I have heard some smiths say they like their anvils to have dents and marks as they age. Should I belt sand the surface?

    • @MalcolmPL
      @MalcolmPL  4 месяца назад +1

      Any imperfections in the anvil where you work the piece are going to leave an impression in the surface. This is a problem if you're aiming for perfection but it can be a benefit if you're aiming for something rustic.
      Unless it's really badly chewed I wouldn't bother with sanding it.
