Just a reminder that I am now on cameo!
www.cameo.com/tonypiluso
I’m the guy who got Tony’s cameo while watching my yearly LOTR marathon. I would suggest everyone get one! Thanks @HackTheMovies
I just wanted to say that I love your channel and personality man, great vibe and atmosphere in all your streams with whatever guests you have on, you are always happy and add in a good dose of humor along with tons of knowledge that is interesting. It'd be awesome to chat films with you like you do with your guests, but I know that will never happen! I used to have a friend who would discuss movies with me in detail like you, and I miss those good ol days of talking movies!
Joe is the best guest host
*Count Dooku voice* “I’ve been looking forward to this”
The death of Saruman is a nod to Christopher Lee's background as Dracula
i still love the Lord of the Rings movies. I also still have the DVD Special Extended Editions for all 3 movies. Ive been thinking about rewatching them all over again sometime this year
Yeah that's everyone's tradition really lol
I binge watched the extended editions a few months ago after not having seen them in a good 5ish years. Such a good decision 🙌🏼 Ended up getting the new Andy Serkis narrated editions of the books and finally got through all of them after I'd finished the movies too
That wrestling joke with Sauron now really makes me think of the Mouth of Sauron as the ultimate hype man
I want to create a Tinder profile just so I can put "you're not getting me giant spider"
This movie is just incredible even 20 years later... once the Battle of peleanor Fields kicks in the movie truly becomes invincible
Just watched the Predator 2 review you did with Movie Dumpster and i've gotta say, i really want an episode on the late 90s Lost In Space movie
Ooo that would be fun!
Saruman got to survive because of mercy and shame. Mercy was one of the biggest themes in LotR.
So happy to see Joe
The fellowship was so good. I love the return also.
rewatching them I realize Two towers is the slowest one until helms deep, bit even extended cut its still good
Can't wait to watch the whole thing after work! Thanks Tony!!
One of my favourite movies of all time is being reviewed and Joe has a sick stache! I'm so happy rn 😁
My drama and media studies teachers rented out the local movie theatre in my home town and my high school class watched all 3 films each year they cam out.
Your other LOTR episodes are some of my favorites on the channel, i think this will be no exception. I wish Johanna was able to make it again, but Joe is the best! Love LOTR and love HTM. Movie Dumpster, too!
Glad you liked the plushie Joe!!
Winner of 11 Oscars including Best Picture!
20 years!!!! Way to make me feel old.
Now we need the HtM Hobbit Trilogy reviews, SEPERATELY! not in one go! 2 hrs each! thanks Tony!
I watched the theatrical version couple of months ago and I was like what the hell happened to Saruman?! 😂 So used to the extended, much better, you can't really go back after seeing them.
Yay!!!! I’m so excited!
Although I do have one question, when are you guys gonna review all 3 hobbit movies? 😏 looking forward to those reviews in 2029!
Solid review, can't wait for the extended cut. The fans want to see the 4hr versions
The best trilogy of all time.
100%
The Troll trilogy? I don’t know, the second one’s not quite as good
2nd
There is only one RETURN, and it's not of the king it is of the jedi.
the movie where only a few scenes were great and most were tedious and the other ones had the ewoks?@@joshmuecke85
FINALLY 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 ITS HERE 👑
And I get to watch it LIVE‼️‼️
The journey is complete GG Tony
GROND GROND GROND GROND GROND GROND
So what are the chances of a discussion on the 2 animated Lord of the Rings movies (Bakshi and Rankin/Bass) or even the animated Hobbit movie?
I'm thinking when the new animated movie comes out we will cover all of them
@@HackTheMoviesthere's an animated movie coming out ?
The rung wraith and some orc scenes genuinely still scare me
Tony looks more tired than he's ever been in this episode
BTW nilbog tower is not my fault
And also I loved your review for troll 2
I'm 5 days a week in the gym now! I'm always tired!
BTW I'm also a fat fuck
@@HackTheMovies I will give up drinking so much if you keep up the good work
Joe/Sean along with Johanna/Crystal are by FAR your best co-hosts Tony, DO MORE WITH THEM ONLY!
Would switch Sean for Joey C.
@@gustavoflorio5383 Poor Choice, Sean is way more knowledgeable and fun to watch esp w/ Joe from Movie Dumpster!
Joe is the best
“You can have your spat after darkness doesn’t engulf the land” 🤔
Oh no...Johanna....the fellowship is broken...
😅
I love the amount of practical effects in the lotr trilogy. The orc makeup is great. The hobit movies were good too but lack of practical effects is noticeable. Cgi is ok but i prefer the original 3.
Love EVERY episode Joe is on. So funny and great collaboration with Tony. Thank you!
Denethor's death reminds me of Elizabeth's death in Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.
What is the WORST
Kevin Smith Movie?
Honestly his work isn't good but it's fine and fun
That one where hes a sausage in it
I made the mistake of watching the Extended Edition of this a few years ago.
Sometimes less is more.
While I don’t think it’s terrible, I will say the RoTK extended edition is easily the worst of the extended LoTR. I like all the added stuff but it just feels too long in a way the other two didn’t.
You ever read the book? I gave up about a third of the way through the epilogue. Like, some closure is good, but I don't really need to know about Sam's 13 kids and their personalities.
Haha😅 i love the extended cuts
The 4 1/2 hour cut just gave me too much exposition.
It slowed down the pace for me too much.
A great intelligent and knowledgeable conversation about the movie and story, mixed with a lot of colourful humour. 👍
RIP Bernard Hill!!
Huge fan of your show, I have a movie suggestion for you guys, the 2002 British horror movie Dog Soldiers, a movie that i believe doesnt get talked about often. Very underrated in my opinon. Hope you consider it for the show!!
Did you notice the dog soldiers tape on the top row of tapes on the set between austin powers and ace ventura 2?
Im finally starting a werewolf review show on patreon and for channel members and will be covering that.
@@HackTheMovies Thats amazing, one of my favourite Werewolf movies!!
'...Like a dirty cop', right before that meme made me choke on muh coffee..
I think the return of the king is easily the best of the books, but I think fellowship is the strongest of the films.
Every change in fellowship is for the better, while I think the changes in return of the king are to the detriment of the story.
I agree almost entirely. I do understand the scouring being cut but every other change at this point does hurt the narrative. Denethor in particular bothers me. In the book he's a Shakespearean tragic character. It's clear the entire time he loves Faramir but he's resentful of Faramir taking advice from wizards. He also takes logical actions until the very end when he's lost hope. In the movies they make him look incompetent.
Well I mean the Ring didn't melt right away because Frodo was still hooked to it. Then when he reached for Sam instead, that's when it totally went under the lava.
these movie had so many ending and only one great one
The Hack the Movies Trilogy is complete. Amazing job!
So the whole Witchking thing isn't a spell, it's a prophecy. He's not invincible or immortal in any way. It was just foretold by Glorfindel that no man would end up killing him, which kinda feels like intentionally leaving out critical information, but maybe that's just how prophecies work in Toklein's universe. But being that everybody including the Witchking never heard the part about him getting killed by a woman and a hobbit, he walks around with a false sense of security thinking he'll never be killed, and everybody is terrified to fight him. And so it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.
Although Gandalf probably would've been aware that he doesn't count as "A Man" and was ready to fight him at the gates of Minas Tirith, although he may not have been able to go all out because he was forbidden to use magic to fight Sauron directly, unlike with the Balrog. But Gandalf, who in his weaker form fought and killed the Balrog who is probably the second most powerful being left in Middle Earth besides Sauron, would've outmatched the Witchking in every way. The movies took a lot of liberties with that one for dramatic tension.
Joe! Suh dude!
Fun Fact the books are actually 6 books split across 3 with 2 books in each book but this is a further breakdown of the books as tolkien had written and intended the books to be one solid book meant to be read all at once much like how people watch the trilogy extended in one sitting
Crispy husk is now my go to name for one of my sons
Tony actually makes very good Gollum voice
2003's The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King Was American Film Critic Jay Sherman's Third Best Film Of 2003 On His Best Of 2003 List.
meanwhile the metal band Cirith Ungol dropped a great album in 2023
“This is gonna be great,” ghost dialogue has to be the best lol part of the episode.
wow
Crazy to think that originally andy Serkis wasn't cast as young smeagol. It was joel tubeck, aka stryfe from xena and hercules, and baal from ash vs evil dead. Imagine what would have happened if Andy Serkis hadn't become so much more involved in the gollum character, and only did the voice.
Gothmog is also the name of the Balrog ❤ friggin Tolkien man
The Scouring of the Shire didn't make sense in the books either. It was a way lower stakes battle after finishing off the ring. Like, what is going on here?
The Only Version Of 2003's The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King That I Prefer Is The Original Theatrical Version (201 Mins).
A little StutJo impression when you start talking about the Trolls. Hacka Hacka!
Tolkien said the grammar thing with the Witch-king was an allusion to the prophecy in Macbeth.
the success of this film broke Peter Jackson's creativity.
Everything he's done since has been way, way too long. He seems to think that being long is his gimmick.
I love when Joe and toney are together it's just so much fun 😂 I miss Shaun to
This is the weakest of the 3 films for me. Almost every change hinders the narrative other than the scouring being removed. I get why that was done. Still a 9/10 film.
- Saruman was planning on betraying Sauron. He believed to win he needed to commit atrocities and use the ring. He wasn't trying to end the race of men. This is barely hinted at in the films, if at all. The reason Gandalf is willing to work with him is because there was still a hint of his old friend left.
- Theoden wasn't holding a petty grudge against Gondor. Gondor was busy trying to fend off Mordor.
- Denethor is a far more interesting character in the books.
- The Army of the Dead isn't OP in the books. They still have to be used tactically.
- The death of the Witch King is built up far more in the books. Mary's sword is an old Northern blade specifically built to take on wraiths. The blade breaks the Witch King's protection. There's a duel meaning to the prophecy. He was killed by a hobbit and a woman, neither "men."
- There's hints of battles going on elsewhere around Middle Earth. This isn't just 1 giant army vs another. All of the peoples of Middle Earth are committed.
- Elrond isn't over protective of his daughter. He's half Elven and he chose the life of an elf. He just wants to ensure Aragon truly rises to the position of King and unites the men of the West before he commits his daughter. She's also seemingly in agreement. Otherwise there would be no point: she would be overseeing the downfall of Middle Earth and putting herself through tremendous despair.
When wyrmtongue stabs sauroman he needed to say "you dont fuck with the chuck". You should do an edit of that.
She came down with a case of the Padme's
With all the Andy Serkis jokes at the start of this episode, I would love episodes on his Planet of the Apes movies with the new one coming out this year.
I do not understand why people complain about the ending, do they not want the plot threads resolved or what? In my opinion it's a good epilogue, they could have probably done it in a way without so many hard cuts but still.
Great content as always !
I agree! Thank you for the super thanks!
The more you discussed the petty sh* the men drudge up in the face of Sauron’s forces the more I think of the news now. You can see how Tolkien had these guys right.
So when they make The Witch King Rises are they gonna get Tom Hardy as Bane as Witch King with Tony cameo or just straight up Tony as Tom Hardy's Bane as The Witch King 🤔
My brother worked on the shadow of the Colossus game😄
Return of the king is awesome!! I prefer the extended edition mostly cause of how it has Saruman dying.
"they have to pull him off" - all the British viewers giggling
John Noble is my neighbor, super nice guy
What your thought on Bicentennial Man with Robin Williams, Tony? I think its a highly underrated Williams movie.
Halfway through this episode and were talking about Ico? A childrens video game?
Im so sorry
I loved them all but I reread the books n was like wait a sec... the movies kinda sucked, even the extended versions. How are they gonna take so many liberties on a story that was written pretty much like a screenplay already.
Get your lips loose and your cherry tomatoes ready.
You two are hilarious together
When are you doing the Harry Potter series? I'm only joking famous tony. Will you be doing any more rewinds?
So your movie can go Jamie Lannister or Denethor/Faramir.
Wtf tony likes ico and shadow of the colossus?? Nice!!
Sauron is supposed to be ultimate evil.
I guess people are not getting that he put a part of his soul into the ring. ( sort of like a horcrux from Harry Potter)
That's why he's not 100% dead/gone. And that's why THE RING CORRUPTS ANY ONE WHO WEARS IT TONY. ( Except frodo, that's why that was a big deal)
Stop with the Python references…I’m laughing so hard I can’t breathe
So Tony, did you actually read the book or did you lazily listen to it on audible?
What trilogy 3rd movieis the best? Lord of the rings, dark knight rises, star wars?, godfather, ironman, captain America, bourne ultimatum,?
Rises obviously
As a Tim, I just want to say, why is it always Tim or Timmy that's the butt of jokes? xD
Did y’all just gloss over the greatest scene of all time? The rohirrim charge? Like seriously guys WTF!!
Where is crystal!? 😮
Work probably?
I have been looking forward to this 😃 thanks for the great content
@@HackTheMovies That's not it. Let me tell them:
She's with her BOYFRIEND. Ya'll don't know she has a BOYFRIEND now? And that she's in love with her BOYFRIEND? That's it, folks.
@@gustavoflorio5383 I did. Doesn't mean she is not available to participate. Unless you have some archaic last century view on women?
the undying lands are like heaven or Eden, they leave to go there after the war for the ring and not before so that the age of Man can begin. If they had just peaced out before, then Sauron would rule the world and the age of Man could not happen. COME ON TONY YOU JUST READ THE BOOKS LOL
🤔 I have never seen this movie 🎥 only the first 2 😮
Why would you read the books when the movies are long enough?
Hi Tony Pi zon I'm newish to Hack The movies etc. this has nothing to do with this video however I wanted to ask if you would Please do a review on The Relic. And two others King 👑 Kong 1933 & Godzilla 1954 & 56. I have some other movies but three is plenty for now. I love these movies. I really enjoy your videos. The Relic is a great horror flick. Thank You God Bless you and yours
Love this trilogy
This was the only one of the three movies I actually saw in theaters and I fucking hated it because I had to piss at the end and they were like 12 different Black screens I thought were endings
U should do smokin aces or how to make a monster the 2001 version or my stupid favorite ghosts of Mars.
Id watch this if Tony ever gets cured from the woke mind virus.
But I'm based!
Don’t do dead lifts!!! 1:30:46
What’s better Star Wars or Lord of the Rings? I never watched any
At this points lord of the rings
