I just picked up the fancy 4K Arrow release with a few different edits of the movie so I’m also looking forward to watching those too.
Just finally watched this movie today with some friends. The Universal show is still super fun even though it's way different. I wonder if they modified the live show over the years because the main woman in the show is a badass whereas in the movie she really kind of was written horribly after she had to leave the merchant island thing he first visits. I mean who built the flying thing she had? There was just so many unknowns in the almost 3 hour movie. Other than that at least it was fun and entertaining to watch. Wasn't as bad as people made it out to be but at the time I'm sure it was boring in theaters.
The reality is, none of that stuff should exist in Water World. As anything that sinks in the sea is lost forever, other than Costner bringing things up. But then you'd think they'd support mutants bringing things up from the sea instead of slaughtering them.
The uncomfortable scenes in it are meant to be uncomfortable. There’s stuff like that in The Road Warrior as well. It’s a post apocalyptic adventure film. Yes some of it’s supposed to be fun, but there’s of course going to be darkness in there too. Never watch an Asian film then Tony because you won’t be able to handle their fluid approach to tone and genre.
I know someone with a prop gun from the film. He found it floating near the set while he was fishing. It was hanging on the wall in his garage the last time I saw it.
In case anyone wondered why Tony asked the scammer if he can give Tony their number so he can call them back later to talk about the movie was another Seinfeld reference.
Tony, I cant believe you mentioned The Simpsons, but didn't talk about the episode where Milhouse plays the terrible Waterworld arcade game that costs 40 quarters for each step!
One of the reasons why Waterworld went over budget was because the set was destroyed by a storm and they had to rebuild it. As Ryan brought up Spielberg did warn not to film it on the ocean, since he ran into issues years earlier filming Jaws.
I don't think I mentioned it but I love the fact that the massive set wasn't able to be tethered to anything so it kept floating away from the cameras or the ocean current would spin it around so they would spent an hour using their tug boats to bring it back into position.
Where were the sea monsters? If the world were 99% water, there would be some crazy ass monsters under that water. This movie really needed a fight with a giant squid or a megalodon

Then again, it's not too bad to have. It is a limited edition. Anyway, I watched the theatrical version first. I often tend to do that before watching any other versions.
