World War Z is Cliché - Hack The Movies

- Опубликовано: 15 сен 2024
- Tony, Justin, and Crystal team up to talk about the biggest (and most forgettable) Zombie movie ever made, World War Z! In this movie review/podcast of the movie based on the Max Brook's novel they will talk about all the things that make it cliché. Like the generic opening scene, the stupid decisions made by the characters, and run of the mill post apocalyptic world we've seen countless times before.
When former U.N. investigator Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) and his family get stuck in urban gridlock, he senses that it's no ordinary traffic jam. His suspicions are confirmed when, suddenly, the city erupts into chaos. A lethal virus, spread through a single bite, is turning healthy people into something vicious, unthinking and feral. As the pandemic threatens to consume humanity, Gerry leads a worldwide search to find the source of the infection and, with luck, a way to halt its spread.

My pet peeve with movies like this is that we have to assume that the characters in the movie have never seen a zombie movie before, or that 100 years of cinema do not exist in the movie’s universe.
Oh my God, I know right. It's like there's no media, not even an ancient piece of paper mentioning zombies in the movie's universe
That's a major plot point of The Walking Dead comic. The Creator said that zombie films, books, video games do not exist in The Walking Dead universe and that's why nobody knows what is happening or how to deal with it. It's also why they don't use the term zombies because in that Universe it actually doesn't exist. Because zombies means Voodoo in The Walking Dead universe not walking Corpses. Hollywood never turn them into the monsters we know today
Yes
Remember, Remember the 5th of November cause it's Crystal's birthday! Happy early birthday!
Thank you!
As a big fan of the book, I was super disappointed with the movie. This episode was a nice catharsis lol. Happy Birthday Crystal from a fellow November bday person.
I saw the movie before I read the book and couldn't stand this POS movie. After reading the book I hate it so much more
I was having a bad day, thank you guys for not leaving
Hope your day gets better!!!
Same.
Not leaving? Like your dad did?
Remember, remember, Crystal's one year older!
Happy Birthday Anniversary!!
Oohh.. so this is where the RLM Nerd Crew idea comes from. I finally found the source lol.
Love and Positive Vibes to Newt ! Also, hello Justin Allen.
The scene in the plane with the soundproof curtain blocking the scream of 100 people 3 meters away was hysterical
I hated the movie, but loved the South Park parody
No Newt means Alien 3 review and Friday the 13th movies episode 3 will be missing all the original hype it had.
When crystal peed Tony was singing the Ghostbusters 2 soundtrack
Tony's snobbines shining bright this episode.
Lol yes
I've always said that the movie should've been called "Brad Pitt Vs. The Zombies".
Zombies Ate my Brad Pitt!
Just realized this show is no longer called Talkin About Tapes
Movie is too new
What I learned from this movie is don't trip when you have a gun pointed to your head and that Pepsi is the perfect drink for a zombie apocalypse.
And hey Crystal! Another November baby! Mine was the 8th so happy belated! 🎂
Will Newt come back as a zombie?
This is the hack the movies panel with the most chemistry
@@Jamesislame Inagree. I’m just trying to move on the best I can. Newt and Tony are the best. Maybe add Crystal. I always loved their exchanges. If I can’t have Newt I’ll settle for Justin. I used to not like him but he’s alright. He’s a lot better than Keiren.
@@johnnytoxic9490 couldn't have said it better
Wasn't Newt the guy who plagiarised an old 28 Days Later review for Monster Madness?
Wouldn't it be "I COULDNT care less"
Yup, i could not possibly care any less
Is everyone afraid to mention 28 days later at the start since the rolfe fiasco lmao, notice dawn of the dead was mentioned as the start of the zombie craze when it was 28DL
It’s not the same without Newt.
They look so bored...or drunk.
I prefer the more laid-back reviews
Happy birthday, Crystal! 🎂
Tony’s 55?! Wow, what’s his secret? He doesn’t look a day over 53.
Jesus Christ, 55 and reviewing movies...
is this age correct?
Of course he is, he's been running from his homicidal sister for 40 years, and he has 3 kids
@@imwalkworse6298 yes Tony is 55 years old.
He does
I see Tony is wearing his Seinfeld hat again! I finished the series a couple of days ago. It's definitely one of my favorite series now thanks, Tony!
I always felt like 28 Days Later kicked off the zombie trend more so than the Zombie Survival Guide.
thirsty for Crystal and hungry for Newt. Good banter and logic throughout talking about tapes
Newt would’ve been great on this episode :( come back
Still a great episode tho
Just missin Newt
Same same same
Don't give a f**k if he is a plagiarist! Want him back!
@@gustavoflorio5383 I don’t understand what he has plagiarised, do you have any idea ?
@@Thomassalvitti a bunch of jokes and some reviews out there.
@@gustavoflorio5383 and he is being canceled for that!? Nahhhh BRING NEWT BACK!
Crystal and Tony you guys need to watch Blood Quantum. A canadian zombie movie with practical effects, some awesome transition scenes, it's about a group of Indignious people who are immune and have to survive the disease and others. The gore is insane and the sheriff is played by the voice actor of Tommy from the 2016 prey game.
Needs more Newt.
@@SuccessMenu I'm generally aware of the circumstances surrounding his absence. That doesn't change the fact that this show needs more Newt.
Lose justin
I remember seeing this one in the theatres. My favorite scenes were with the Ant-Like Zombies straddling the wall. The other scenes were, meh. Happy Birthday, Crystal!
Thank you!
Nov 4th? That's my bday too!
I really like ants, thank you for saying "ants". :-)
@@JessHull, You are quite welcome! I like ants too, OUTSIDE. Stay out of my kitchen and living room, etc, ants, and we are cool! ;)
The book World War Z takes stories from throughout the zombie outbreak. It does an awesome job mixing different types of media into the story (police blotter, newspaper articles, personal retellings)
It takes stories from all over the world and different ways people dealt with or were overran by the zombie hordes. The movie never captures the essence of the book, preferring over the top action to subtle chilling moments.
1:22:52
12:25 😂🤣 That pharmaceutical commercial… _Hilarious!_ A++ Jessica!
Why wasn't the Unrated cut reviewed like you guys did with Dawn Of The Dead?
It makes it a much better film. Unlike Dawn where it just boosts it a bit.
Bring back newt !
This movie was nominated at several different award shows for best visual effects
Some day I wanna chill with Crystal drink bourbon and smoke stoagies..ill have to come out to one of those things where yall get rained out..I wanna party with Justin too I know he goes hard...haha
Totally!
We need Newt to write Z World.
The only good thing about this movie. When someone Photoshopped a cat on the climbing horde in one of the posters.
Aw man, I have a horrible kidney infection and I am so scared. Two of the only things that's helped with the stress and occupying my mind is the Hack the Movies & the Cinemassacre family. You guys have helped so much during all this. I'm going through backlog of vids and there isn't much left that I haven't watched. I wish there was hundreds more. I don't wanna finish the back catalogue. But again THANK YOU.
Funny story about Tel Aviv. When I was a Marine I was deployed there. One night right before liberty. The C.O. was giving us a safety speech. The usual stuff don't act stupid. But he meesed up the last part. He said "Make sure you have a 2 drink minimum. I repeat a 2 drink minimum!" He was supposed to say 2 drink maximum. As soon as he let us go. We ran before he could correct us on his rules.

Happy birthday @CrystalQuin I know it’s hard turning 40
How can james rolfe afford to pay 80 screenwave employees to plagiarize for him? He couldn't pay for his kids hospital bills or his terrible movie
Nice, keep reviewing movies that are interesting to see a review about.
Tony you are SO RIGHT about the Zombie burnout. It made it hard for me to get into T.W.D. at first. Video games are for children but there really was a point where every game had to have a "zombies" mode. From Halo to Call of Duty . It got played out for sure in pop culture. You are correct sir!
Doom Eternal > Animal Crossing
Happy birthday Crystal (Dynamics)!
Thank you!
Happy birthday Crystal! Always nice to find another Scorpio ♏. No wonder why you are so great
Thank you! Scorpios are the best!!!
@@Crystalquin Wow haven't check youtube in a while and I found this? Christmas have arrived early for me having your respond. Thanks Crystal! have a great day!
World War Z was supposed to be a trilogy.. would've had a way better pace, had they done that
The first part of it was filmed in Glasgow, because parts of glasgow looks like some east coast and mid west cities.
Happy birthday Crystal! You guys should consider an audible sponsor with all those books you want to read.
Thank you!
Haha that commercial cut was genius!
I have a chihuahua, but the one key to having a chihuahua, get an old one. Not always the case, but my dog is a chihuahua and she's old. Most old chihuahuas aren't as bad, that, or mine is just a good girl, probably the latter.
Happy Born Day, Crystal!!!
Thank you!
The zombies are back at the store. Johanna and Trisha are trapped on roof. Justin & Crystal try to make a cure, but Tony wants to talk about some Brad Pitt movie with them first.
The Zombie Survival Guide is an awesome read. Useful info for whatever world ending event. Also breaks it down into threat levels and what to do. Level 5 or whatever, wow. Like when you read a movie adaptation and your imagination is better than the movie
I thought it was alright the first time around. Then I looked at it again about a year ago and I realized it makes a lot of fundamental mistakes.
@@bad-people6510 I read it when it first came out. Been a while

Happy Bday Crystal! Question. Which one of the HTM crew would be the person who gets bit and hides it in a zombie movie. My pick is def Tony. He would be too famous to turn imo.
Thank you! And def Tony
Awesome that you're coming to New Haven this weekend - my home!
I saw this in theaters when it came out Summer 2013. I’d also read the book years before and was confused on how they would adapt the book to the screen. The book switches between different storylines with, IIRC, had an overarching narrative of the guy hired to investigate the cause of the virus, while interviewing key people involved throughout the process of beginning, the war, and aftermath.
No simping, but u look pretty Crystal and Happy B-Day! Great episode gals and guys.
My fresh idea for the zombie genre
Typical Zombie apocalypse but the zombies occasionally blurt out random words like "tacos" or "tampons" it would have a comedy spin.
Another idea is a POV movie like (Hardcore Henry) we see a survivor get bit and turn, the rest of the movie would be a POV of the zombie walking in hordes, eating or scaring survivors ect. It would be a more visual experience.
"Budweiser is the king of beers!"
We Germans:
"Hold our beers!"
Jessica is awesome, she does great edits.
The lights are back on!!
Never leave home without your Brad Pitt survival kit!
You’d all do well to listen to the audio book (unabridged version). The story is amazing and it’s fully cast with some great actors including mark hamill. 👍
It's like New Moon, it isn't long, but it feels long.

Hat your mom said
I like how tony has to have the movie win him over as opposed to folks who want to like a movie no matter what. I miss Newt
A movie SHOULD have to win you over to like it, otherwise writers, directors and all involved would just become completely lazy and uninspired. So you just enjoy any movie no matter how bad it is? 😂
HBD Crystal!
For a theater experience I thought it was pretty cool especially with the zombies climbing over each other. It reminds me of Resident Evil Retrebution. With the ending with the final fight in the white house. I see it as a turn your bring off and sorta look at it as a movie with an outbreak starting. I enjoy zombie movies that do that. Because you see how much society breaks down. But there so many goofy and pretty dumb parts in the film. But overall I enjoy it. Especially since I got a World War Z poster for Christmas from my sister before she passed away last year in January. So whenever I watch the movie. I like to think of her and our experience watching the film
Happy birthday crystal! I like this movie and also love Romero ones and others, hahaha. I didn't like the cgi. I laugh out of the ghostbusters hack the movies, you all were really funny!
Thank you!
Great discussion and Happy Birthday Crystal
Another example of what Tony was talking about with actors with major roles being cut was Johnny Depp in Platoon. Apparently he was supposed to be a major character but was cut down to like one line.
I once met Max Brooks at Comic-Con, and I asked him what he thought of the World War Z movie, and he said, "It was great. It just wasn't my book." And I agree. The book is SO GOOD. The movie is trash.
I wish Justin could have popped up for the Beetlejuice one, he is a dead ringer for Glenn Shadix and I can see why he has a connection with Glenn.
Anyone have insight as to the very awkward/different opening?
Tony, please, never allow that tub of mayonnaise back on your show. Ever. 4 ever.
Hey tony where did you get your shirt I want one . love the channel and podcast keep up the good work .
Video starts 4:09
Happy birthday Crystal 🔮
Thank you!
Happy birthday crystal
Thank you!
The Dawn of the Dead remake and Shaun of the Dead brought zombies back into the mainstream (much more than they had been ever before) and as the boom was about to go away The Walking Dead brought them back again. The straight to DVD/ streaming market was filled with horrible zombie movies and a lot of video games started to include zombies as well. I think even the biggest fans of the genre got sick of it all because of the oversaturation of the market.
Zombie movies went from cool and cult to tired and overdone in 6- 7 years.
How is World War Z really any different from some of those straight to DVD movies? It did make a lot of money, but I've never heard people really talk about it even though they saw it. Honestly, I think they forgot the entire movie existed because it's so generic.
On a side note; Birdemic also blamed the disaster on global warming, but at least I remember Birdemic, lmao.
Also, happy birthday to Crystal.
Happiest Birthday Yet, Crystal!🥳
Wait, Brad Pitt? I was sure this was a Tom Cruise movie.
🎉🎊🎉🎊🎇🎆Happy Birthday Crystal🎇🎆🎂🎈🎁🎉🎊🎉🎊

This is the 2nd vid with a red letter media jab. What happened?
I still can’t believe they made World War A or the 24 other sequels..
I like Justin bringing new life into the 90's Jon Stewart joke about Hershal Spidermin.
Really Good episode guys.
