Tony and Kieran get together to talk about the extremely disappointing sequel to the first Resident Evil Movie. In this movie review/podcast they will talk about all the things that are awful in this movie. Like the horrible action scenes, the choppy editing, and the major letdown that was Nemesis.
A deadly virus from a secret Umbrella Corporation laboratory underneath Raccoon City is exposed to the world. Umbrella seals off the city to contain the virus, creating a ghost town where everyone trapped inside turns into a mutant zombie. Alice (Milla Jovovich), a survivor from Umbrella's secret lab, meets former Umbrella security officer Jill Valentine (Sienna Guillory) and mercenary Carlos Oliviera (Oded Fehr). Together, they search for a scientist (Jared Harris) who might be able to help.

I cant wait for this review. Tony i love your input and my favorite guests are usually kieren and krystal. Keep doing what ur doin brotha. 🤘
I can't believe the star of The Dark Knight Rises has his very own RUclips channel. Congratulations.
It's a Kieran episode, so you know it's going to be good.
Yeah if Tony doesn't cut off every interesting point he brings up before it has a chance to unfold
Even if this is a Kieran sock account.. I agree.
It’s an Kieran episode smh
My favorite guest host
Yup
When Alice crashed through the church window on the motorcycle and killed the licker with it after backflipping off of it, that was it for me.
Algorithm 🎉
This was exactly my feeling. I was ok with this up until then!!
Nothing with Milla showing skin can be totally cringe. I could watch her read the phone book.
Sienna Guillory is a SMOKEshow as Jill, though...
Bonk
This movie felt like a giant middle finger to fans of the games. I watched it on the big screen, and I regret it tremendously.
RE (2002), Re Extinction, and Re:The final chapter were the only ones that mattered.
Apocalypse did terrible, because it was a videogame movie, where as the first RE was a licensed movie.
Afterlife did worse, again, it was a videogame movie, this is when they tried their hardest to interweave alices story with the game
and Final chapter, again was a videogame movie, but only because it had to deal with the chronological reprocussions of the other movies, the final movie in the series was finally an alice movie again.
Extinction was my favorite.
I’m just stoked Kieran’s back in an episode
This one is by far the most tolerable sequel of the franchise tbh.
Yeah it could be far worse honestly.
Nothing can’t beat Afterlife
I had fun.. went downhill afterwards
@@Jerry4050 Afterlife could have been a lot better. The 3D was needless. They tried to unpack far too much in 90 minutes. If it had played into the cheesiness of it like Apocalypse and not make the story so convoluted then I would have liked it a lot better.
It superficially felt closest to the games.
The costume design for nemisis being so accurate to the game is the only good thing about the movie
1:03:39 Game Nemesis = Near unstoppable killing machine.
Film Nemesis= Some guy called Matt who turns good when Alice beats him in a fight.
Can't wait to see Kieran back for the rest of the Resident Evil videos! Enjoyed this one guys.
Always great to see Kieran reunite with his far more famous friend for a show that is nothing at all like rental reviews.
Rather see Apocalypse than Welcome to Raccoon City
From the looks of it, it appears one could make a “Mr. Incredible Becomes Uncanny” meme out of these live-action RE adaptations, with 1 being his normal self and 10 being the faded Troll Face…
POV: Your hopes of getting a satisfying live-action Resident Evil Series
1.) George Romero’s Script
2.) Resident Evil (2002)
3.) Resident Evil: Apocalypse
4.) Resident Evil: Extinction
5.) Resident Evil: Afterlife
6.) Resident Evil: Retribution
7.) Resident Evil: The Final Chapter
2.) James Wan Considered for Reboot
8.) James Wan No Longer Involved
9.) Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City
10.) Netflix’s Resident Evil Series
28:19 Apparently in the first film the guy Jason Isaacs voices saying "I want him in the Nemesis program" is supposed to be William Birkin but he didn't return for Apocalypse.
Sienna Guillory was the best part of that movie, casted as well as you can. I saw it in theaters. just sucks they squished RE2 and 3 all into one....
I saw this movie in theaters with my friends when I was 16. My mom dropped us off. I was SO stoked for this leading up to finally watching it and being disappointment. I have no issue with Mike Epps, but him being comic relief for the first Nemesis encounter just made me cringe. The nemesis is so frightening in the games!
Tony, we gotta get Kieran back to finish these. They’re a fan favourite
The only thing I remember about this movie is that it was filmed in Toronto and it was freezing but they stuck poor Sienna Gullory in that tube top because in the movie it was a heatwave ha. Don't remember any of the actual movie lol. Love when Kieran comes on! This show has been delivering episode after excellent episode lately!! 👏
This is my favorite of the resident evil movies who doesn’t love a good zombie graveyard fist fight scene
Well, I like a GOOD one, yes, but there’s nothing good about this movie.
Kieran's issue with HBO Max video quality around 14:10 is an issue that many seem to be experiencing on certain platforms recently. I've heard of people experiencing it on desktop, and it is also happening on my Xbox Series X. I never had any problems before very recently.
I use the App on my PS4 and have not any problems, it updates frequently.
I cant believe Kieren has never seen ROTLD. That is probably the best zombie flick ever made despite its many, many flaws lol.
I think the rig that hits the SUV is supposed to be a nod to the tanker truck in RE2 that explodes at the beginning of the game after driving through the streets and plowing into cars.
Awful film but the Nemesis look and costume is excellent for being a live action adaptation imo
He could barely move!
@@HackTheMovies It’s awful. Like, in stills, yeah, it looks like it might be cool, but in action, it’s barely anything more than a rubber mask. It’s garbage.
@@HackTheMovies he had osteoporosis
The person who played Nemesis in this film was that Jock Brother of that young Ace Frehley fan from the film Detroit Rock City.
You have to love how RUclips is the closest thing to a time machine we have
I find you two intolerable individually, like Kieran’s rambling story about someone burning a $20 bill in the podcast episode and Tony in literally any episode I’ve seen, but somehow when you’re together there’s an endearing chemistry that kind of works. I could listen to the two of you talk about games or movies and it sounds like two weirdo friends who share an interest. Gotta give you something for this. Whatever it is that makes you guys click, keep it up.
Kieran has never seen Return Of The Living Dead! 😮
That's my favorite zombie movie of all time.
It's SO good.
I wanted this movie to be great since the first one was a surprise, but then I saw Mike Epps was in it for "comic relief."
There were background articles for a fake newspaper when the movie came out. And in them they said Leon was Jill’s partner and got killed by a zombie or something So Jill has encountered them before. Obviously that was one of the 3 million retcons since he was in retribution
I completely forgot that he had even made it into the movies. Whenever they bring someone in, even if they’re portrayed by an actor you recognize, they make zero impression and end up not being the least bit important anyway, because it’s the Alice show.
Does anyone remember the interview where Milla says “I was so happy when I got cast as Alice. I had to immediately get the games and research my character”….
I just remember that after every movie failed to emulate what we liked about the games, she’d be hyping the next one with something like “This NEXT one is really for the fans!”, before making another one that just did the same thing. The NEXT movie, not the one we’re watching right now, was always going to be what we wanted out of a Resident Evil film, y’see. 🙄
I am excited to see this one knowing how each feels roughly about this movie already.
It’s got Jill and nemesis. Makes it pretty decent IMO.
But the only thing film Jill gets to do is headshot a few zombies. Game Jill fights The Nemesis in RE3. Film Jill like all the characters from the games is sidelined for Alice.
We're you listening to Paul Wall selling your droids to the Jawlwals?
Legit made me laugh
Any episode with Kieran is a guaranteed laugh fest 🤣😂
These arn't Resident Evil movies.. They are Matrix Mila Johovich with zombies
That Kelly Rowland scene in Freddy vs Jason is gold!
Video game Raccoon City is based off of Springfield Missouri. And the Arklay Mountains is based off of the Ozark Mountains.
Really enjoyed your review! Laughed so much! Subscribed! 🤣👍
When I saw Lights Out at Neshaminy two guys started yelling at each other to the point they got kicked out and they had to rewind the movie
I just left neshaminy
@@HackTheMovies I’m sorry to hear that
Code Veronica was so hard to get due to it being pretty expensive and the game was pretty long and hard to beat code Veronica was like a myth lol
Eh it's quite easy once you've attempted at least one playthrough and have become familiar with how most of it works, the most important part is saving enough health items and only using the grenade launcher for boss battles. As much as I enjoyed it's story and the style of gameplay I wish that some bits were designed a bit differently because it's a bit too easy to screw up your playthrough and be forced to start again, the whole inventory system between Chris and Claire is awkward and it's easy to have the wrong item permanently stuck in the wrong character during your first try.
isn't Payton from that one online resident evil, I believe it was Resident Evil Survivors.
Peyton is a tougher Brad Vickers with Chris's outfit and Kenneth Sullivan's physical appearance.
I know it won't happen but damn. I'd LOVE to see Phelous join Tony and Kieran ripping apart the next 'Resident Evil' movie. Phelous seems to love the video games as much as Kieran does.
Massive fan of the games especially 2, 4 & 7 and I believe Apocalypse is the best RE movie
if this doesn't do great, can we still get 1 video covering all of the other sequels?
I never know that nemesis has an eye but now I can’t un see that
I wish I didn’t know that
Looks like Kieran & Tony are stuck surrounded by zombies while guarding the Nemesis monster at HACK THE RESIDENT EVIL. Might as well talk about RE: APOCALYPSE til S.T.A.R.S officers Crystal & Justin can save them.
Justin will be eaten first.
My biggest gripe about the live action resident evil movies is how random and out of date all of the costumes were in the later movies. Like for this one i get it for jill because it was a few years after Nemsis. But damn throwing barry in the red vest and ada in the red dress as well as leons RE 4 outfit just looked out of place. I don't always want my characters to look just like the games or comic books.
Fun Fact: 21:40 the Zombie is played by an "famous" german actor/ comedian named Tom Gerhardt. He was a close friend to Bernd Eichinger. The CEO of the german production company "Constantin Film" which produced the RE movies and most of the stuff from Tom Gerhardt.
The guy who Tony laughed at only thought he was fine. He went home with only a minor headache. However, the next day, he died of a stroke while driving a truck, causing a pile up and killing another 18 people, including a young mother and her 3 month old.
Shame on you 😂
Haha this is gonna be a hilarious episode!!! 😋
End of heartache is a great album
Please do all of the RE movies. Thanks guys.
I have to admit as much shit as this movie gets, at least the church and school scenes feel 100 percent like RE. They even have the woman statue in there. It's a decent film imo.
Most of the script was pretty bad, but damn I'd be lying if I said that Apocalypse with it's cast, special effects and set/costume design didn't capture the look and feel of third game perfectly, and probably better than any future RE movie ever will. The good parts of Apocalypse are like a taste of what the greatest movies never made would've been like.
@@johnnyjohn-johnson7738 true but add in the whole helicopter over Arklay mountains, then seeing the outside of the mansion, and the whole mansion scene in Welcome To Raccoon City. Those scenes are up there too as being legit great
@@horrorfanforlife8664 The biggest flaws with Welcome To Raccoon City to me, are:
A. The tone.
B. The decision to merge the first two games.
Starting with the tone, I get that (to it's credit) , the people making the movie paid some attention to what people liked about the games and were trying to pay homage to the games funnier side, but it ended up indulging too much into cheap attempts at humor to the point that it felt less like a proper horror movie at times and more like a pale imitation of James Gunn's Slither. Resident Evil has a more subtle sense of humor, that comes usually from someone saying something that unintentionally makes us laugh (like Barry) or some of the serious but eccentric villains being melodramatic to the point of them making fools of themselves (Alfred being the epitome of this), honestly most of the overt humor comes primarily from the latter part, everything else about the games is mostly serious. But the writers didn't understand that. The Anderson movies nailed the macabre horror tone of the games (which isn't just gory, but also has this weird awkward feel to it) much better, if you ask me I think that's more important than the comedy.
With the merging of 1 and 2, a terrible decision because each game has it's own unique cast with special attention placed on their journeys within their own particular nightmares which requires a substantial amount of time that an hour and a half movie just couldn't do, for that reason the movie ended up cutting Rebecca and Barry completely which is a huge loss. I think that a merger of 2 and 3 could've somewhat worked because they do take place at around the same time of day in the same parts of the city, but 1 and 2 take place months apart, and this brief period of peace contextualizes some important things such as why the STARS weren't taken seriously and half of them left the city to either hide or investigate in Europe, and how long Chris has been missing before Claire went out looking for him.
I do agree that the mansion scenes were decently done. I'm not a huge fan of the scene at the forest because it didn't take itself seriously enough (it had no Joseph either to my recollection).
Overall I think that the Welcome to Raccoon City despite having the better of intentions compared to most of it's predecessors ended up being influenced by a money making decision to squeeze as many main characters as possible in a single film, presumably out of a fear that an adaptation of the first game wouldn't sell enough tickets with new fans who got introduced with the recent remakes.
You need a shirt with your most used catchphrase Tony, "Uhhhahahuhuhummmmmm"
Alice should have been the Mad Max type character, she's the main character but the stories are about the other characters from the games and she's there to help out. Instead we get mounds and mounds of zombie caca
This movie had like 4 good scenes. And Mike Epps is the focus of 3 of them.
Idk why all of these movies and novels place a MIDWESTERN TOWN in PA... It makes zero sense... I always assumed the setting of Raccoon City was Chicago. Also, the whole thing about Jill knowing what is going on makes ZERO SENSE because the events of the first game never happened... So, wtf lol
Actually Jill knowing what was going on makes perfect sense because the events of the first game actually DID happen in the Anderson movies off screen. The newspaper clippings seen at the end of the first movie and in Jill's apartment in the second one both heavily imply that the STARS were attacked by the dogs and took cover in the mansion at about the same time that Alice, Matt, Spence and the Umbrella mercenaries entered The Hive.
I love the first Resident Evil movie and Welcome to Raccoon City. The second film is really bad, but I like Sienna and the Nemesis design. They somewhat follow the plot of RE3, which I appreciated.
The rest are all bad yet guilty pleasures.
Welcome back, Kieran!
It's always good to see him and Tony
dump on horrible movies!
Me. Tony, and Kieran support the border wall.
19:08 Those zombies must be like the Crimson Heads from the first game's remake.
That Royce the 5'9 song with Mike Epps doing the hook is on a disc called BadMeetsEvil. It's a project with him and Eminem. It's a pretty good album.
Guys! I love Resident Evil. I literally picked up the games during 2020. It felt so good to deal with a pandemic situation you could shoot in the face. I would so love to talk about these dumb ass films.
Bruh, you guys closed the show with an ad??? Scared the hell out of me.
I’m not praising this movie in any means, but this is definitely the best Resident Evil movie in the Original film timeline.
Kieran is just delightful
Hey Tony from Hack The Movies could you review Turning Red I think Crystal might like it. It’s about a red girl who turns into a red panda.
I saw this as a double feature with Shaun of the Dead in the cinema. I enjoyed this movie for its zombie fights in the Racoon City, Jill Valentine, and the Nemesis battles. Sadly, this was the start of the "Super Alice" which got old.
Milla must be a big John Cena fan
Is there a movie that you don't like?
@@mgloco88 Skyline for one.
@@wstine79 good choice, never saw that one, but it looks terrible.
From this point on, the series only works if you think Milla Jovovich’s character is as cool as SHE thinks she is. It’s like how Vin Diesel would get in the F&F franchise. I can’t stand spending time with these insufferable characters, so it doesn’t even matter what’s happening around them.
Idk where this budget went? But it should've gone to Nemesis cuz the practical effects aren't that great even for the time they looked cheap. Secondly we could've gotten a Nemesis that can actually move properly with CGI. Poor guy in the suit.
Worst video game adaption ever.
This movie was based on Resident Evil 3 Where Jill Valentine defeats Nemesis and Survives Raccoon City. This movie gave Jill's journey to Alice and made Jill Valentine the sidekick of her own story. Let's just say if this happened to Tomb Raider, the fan backlash would of been bigger.
Honestly the film is a very guilty pleasure of mine, I enjoyed it. I only like the first film and this one I consider to be a B Movie in my opinion.
But on a scale of fine to fun how is it
It's more like failed and flawed.
I appreciate the ninja noises Tony makes! He should do that more in reviews!
I hope you guys do the rest of the RE series. As bad as they are , I know you guys can make them entertaining. Keep up the great work ! HTM
The only RE movie I saw in theaters was the one with Kim Coates in it. I remember thinking it was kind of dumb, but idr which one it was. Edit: it was RE: Afterlife
I don't know how there are so many "Resident Evil fans" defending this abomination!!! is crazy!! The only decent movie from Anderson was the first one from 2002... and despite all the mistakes, for me the most faithful to the game is Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City...
This is one of the better movies to me. R3 and up just get worse and worse
Yeah I got to agree the 2nd resident evil wasnt good lol. The new resident evil movie was surprisingly good imo.
Kieran referencing Royce da 59 made my day 💪🏽🙌🏽😂
“Do you listen to Paul Wall’awl?” 😂😂
Kieran episodes are the best.
Finally a review that doesn't run longer than the film(s). Hint. Hint.
32:01-32:12 Mint Salad needs to do a drawing of this
This movie is horrible but I would watch it 10 times before I watched the first twenty minutes of the new one.
Resident Evil Apocalypse is Unfine and Unfun.
Love when the SUV flips and you get a shot of the CN Tower 😂
i played like 15 minutes across 3 different biohazard games and hated them
so when i saw the film it was okay.
the movies are probably not for gamers
Some years ago, I saw or read an interview with the guy who did this movie. According to that interview, for some reason Capcom decided to take the reins of putting the film together. They had a weird set of priorities. They required him to first stage and film all of the key and most popular moments from the game, then after all of those were filmed he was told to basically film connective tissue to string it all together.
My assumption has always been that they were annoyed at the negative comments from the first movie, which was that it did not adhere close enough to the original story, and wanted to make sure that for the sequel they made the fans happy. I also got the impression that this was to make the game publisher happy because that's what they wanted to see on the big screen
Where were Capcom's reins when the following sequels screwed up even further?
Please do the whole series lmao
Compare these movies to the resident evil Netflix show and it's incredible
The scene in the police station I always took to be intentionally over the top and stupid lol
I like these movies for what they are, but I don't have an attachment to the games. I also wouldn't try to defend them to someone who didn't like them
Glad a aunt may reference found it's way in
KIERAN!!!
love Kieran
Look if you don’t think welcome to raccoon city is fine and fun, go watch all these ones back to back and get back to us😑😑
i was absolutely appalled that kieran didnt see return of the living dead D:
King Layne Price, nooooooooo!!!! 😱😱😱

The Milla movies aren’t good, but all of them beat WTRC or the Netflix show.
"STAAAAARS!"
I saw eight legged freaks and a dude caught a black ladies hair on fire and it lit up the whole theater for a second like a fireball
