I rented this on Apple TV last night and absolutely hated it. Changing the characters elements really didn’t work: Leon an idiot, Irons as a good guy and not working for Umbrella and not a psychopath, Wesker an unwilling mercenary, Chris a fan of Umbrella, Lisa Trevor a good monster who befriends Claire, and Jill a trigger-happy specialist who’s infatuated with Wesker. Feels like another Silent Hill: Revelation; a video game movie adaptation movie fans were excited for, but ended up a complete disappointment.

I think having Irons mention and listen to Journey is supposed to be because he's an OLDER guy in the late 90's, so when HE was Chris and Wesker's age Journey would've still been pretty big at the time.
The reason the turning-around mansion zombie had no lips is because he's supposed to be the zombie from the box art of Resident Evil: Director's Cut for PSX. There's a cover for that version of the game that has that zombie as their artwork instead of the usual cover.
One based on the first game only would have been great. But what it was REALLY missing was Tony spliced in like Hack the living dead. “Hey, are you guys STARS members? Did you see those scary dogs out there???”
Raccoon City was supposed to be a "small town in the mid-west," so making it a podunk coal mining town is completely reasonable if the movie is based on the original first two games. If you read the old novels by S. D. Perry, she describes the town to be such. It was only in RE3 that they reimagined the town to be much bigger (100,000 casualties from the nuke strike, so said the TV reporter.)
To answer your guys’ question on where the Umbrella company was relocating in the movie, I’d say best guess would be Tall Oaks which is where part of Resident Evil 6 takes place and Birkin in the movie was wearing a Tall Oaks t-shirt. Probably meant to be another reference but safe to assume…
The name comes from Sweet Home on the NES, pretty much an 8bit Resident Evil. There's a line that says "This is a house of residing evil." Blew my mind when that line popped up.
I think it was called Resident Evil more as wordplay about the mansion. A residence, designed and built with secrets and literal deathtraps. (aka the jill sandwich maker)... Residential = Resident Evil
I thought I was a Resident Evil fan until I heard Kieran’s list. I never ventured out of the console versions. Lol my favorites are still RE3 original, and 4.
When a.v.g.n did the review on the game and he puts himself in it and the helicopter scene when he yells no don't go !!! The nerd goes what an asshole hahahahahah
In order to make a great RE series, the story must focus on a side character. Marvin, from RE2, is the perfect one. The story behind the RPD, the politics of the city and the creation of the STARS team… with a good amount of zombies creepy cases… all from Marvin perspective. This would bring awesome cameos from the main characters, and also would respect the canon and all the imprinting that us, audience, had made since the games. P.S. Sorry for the English… I’m Brazilian. Great Episode!! Kieran is always a fun time!! P.S.2. There you go… a great idea that will never see the light of the day!
The movie is pretty bad. The story was rushed, Jill and Claire felt the same to me, they weren't very distinguishable in terms of character. Wesker was just bad, the mansion seemed very underwhelming especially when they first entered it. Character reactions to things felt unnatural, certain situations felt forced. The whole movie pissed me off to be honest. Some parts were okay. Ghostbusters: Afterlife was a way better movie than this, there was actual character development in that movie unlike Welcome to Raccoon City.
The itchy tasty scene would've been better if they hadn't had the zombie mom smash through the glass and literally yell it in our faces after she already did the reference with the blood writing.
I saw SOME RE3 references. The file Claire finds in the projector room about Lisa Trevor said the reason she was so dangerous was because they increased her testing yield by infecting her with the Nemesis parasite before abandoning her project.
Its like the same writer who wrote the script for the 2016 Ghostbusters movie wrote the script for this movie. Someone who fully misunderstands the characters and their intentions and has no willingness to try. Wesker was a good guy pushed into betraying his unit, Leon was an incompetent coward, Jill was not interesting, Brian Irons was more involved with the movie than he should have been... Not even Chris and Claire were done justice. The only character they SORTA got right was Lisa Trevor bit and that one zombie that turns towards the camera like the first zombie in the first game. The whole Itchy Tasty line was ruined by some nutter chick who ends up screaming it at Claire... I was so disappointed when the movie was finished, man. I love this franchise so much and when fan films are more accurate and entertaining than a $20 million Hollywood movie I cringe because it's embarrassing how something so clear can be so ruined.
I wonder if, since the first game is in the mansion, someone in Japan tried to make the US name a pun that would translate to "house of evil" or "demon residence" and the translation didn't quite work. Then the American marketing team just said "eh it's not copyrighted, let's try it."
Idk basically rushing the entire Racoon city saga arcs into one movie isn't fine. But maybe that's just me 😅 RE needs a series to get adapted properly, maybe someday.
That's maybe the number one complaint. Why oh why they combined two games into one movie. All movie suffers from it. Characters not developed, no clear motivations, etc. You can cut Lisa Trevor entirely and it wouldn't hurt the movie.
RE doesn't need to be adapted.....All they need to do is just tell good stories that take place in the universe, they don't need to keep trying to turn the videa gaemz into movies.. IF people want the stories from the games, they can just play the games.. I've been playing RE since I purchased the first game with MY money after work, not what mom got me for Christmas or what mom rented me from Blockbuster. I don't need to see the video game stories in movie form.....It just needs to be good and entertaining, the video game series that is a homage to B-movies doesn't need to be some deep psychological thriller or Shakespeare.
Leon in this looks more like Kevin from Resident evil Outbreak Series who is also a RPD Officer who’s not the brightest so there’s always that distant connection
Yeah, so basically to save you the time looking it up, Sultan the Tiger supposedly died of an allergic reaction to whatever it was they were using to dye his fur black on the set. It was a regular orange and white tiger that they basically coated in some kind of black dye over and over again. The tiger didn't die from the dye job, though, because that was vegetable dye. It died from the anesthesia they used on it to get close enough TO color it. It just never woke back up.
Resident Evil was pitched out as a joke name but everyone liked it so much it stuck. The name doesn't quite work once we start abandoning the idea of evil within a residence by part 2, but at least it's always been a COOL name!
To answer your question about the title Kieran, the first game takes place in a lived-in location, or residence, that is full of evil. And same goes with most of the iconic locations in the series, from the police station in the second game, the village in RE4, the Baker’s home in RE7, etc. You could also say that evil has taken residence there.
Honestly the Birkin scenes were Honestly the best part to me. In his defense Birkin after his 1st transformation can still speak somewhat.. He even calls out to Sherry in the re2 o.g... and says "help me" in the remake.

They ARE doing a live-action Mega Man movie for Netflix. I'm pretty sure there was already an animated movie so if he shows up as Dr. Wily, MAYBE it'll count?
My expectations were low when I found out the people that were attached to the movie weren't great. Not blaming the actors because they did what they could with the script but they were not the right people for the roles. They should have stuck to the very first game and made a legit horror movie. I don't hate it but it's sad that the hardcore fans have to settle for this fine and fun adaptation of a survival horror game. I think great directors with great vision often want to make their own creation and not adapt a videogame. I often think of who would make a great movie like this, maybe Fincher or someone like that. I'm worried about Twisted Metal and Metal Gear Solid. I wish Miller(Mad Max) was making Twisted Metal and Boyle(28 Days Later) would make a Silent Hill remake.
@@drlee2 The actors are terrific actors. For me it's just nowhere near what I hoped for. Imagaine something high budged show casing the mansion and sticking to the first video game. Something dark and creepy where the scares aren't badly made jump scares but are legit. The way I see in my mind a Resident Evil movie is not what any movie is now days. Something is lost in films now. Resident Evil should be a R rated horror movie that barley passed the current "rating" system. Less is more but when it shows some sh*t make it epic. Do the first game justice.
Resident Evil is not a Fincher franchise. It's a Carpenter, Romero, Hooper kinda franchise. It always had a b-movie vibe and clashing tones. And this WAS a legit horror film, unlike any RE film before it.
Gamefan i will not accept anything less than a terrifying 2 hour slog thru bravo team’s night, filled with mad scientist experiments and gruesome deaths. GRUESOME.
Never got the hate for this movie. Play RE 1. The original. It's so delightful in how corny and B movie it was. This one channeled that cheese from the OG.
Interesting. Everyone has said that this movie is complete trash, and that they ruined Leon and Wesker specifically. It will be interesting to hear your take.
People treat their favorite franchises like their own baby. Nothing is ever good enough. This was honestly my favorite resident evil movie since the original.
I just got out of the theater. I'm a big Resident Evil game fan, and actually I liked the film. I only liked the first Re movies from 2002 and 2004. This is basically the movie version of two games in one. where it is biggest disappointment. I wanted to see more of the mansion than the police station. It felt like a 90s film which is basically the games we're released. It's got issues, but it's decent.
I'm really interested in what Kieran&Tony's thoughts on this film are. I've been on the fence when it comes to "welcome to racoon city", some say typical bad VG movie and others say it has a B-Movie charm(which kinda wins me over). Guess I'll have to watch the review to see if it's worth checking out.

Better than any other live action RE before it. Not perfect but still better.
Saw it last night. I enjoyed it! About $10m more on the budget would have gone a long way!
I dont think I ever watched past the first Resident Evil movie, seen I think a animated one years ago but dont remember name of it.
I was surprised how good the acting was in this movie. Not great, just really solid and better than the script.
@@DmitryChmelyov Strong disagree.
Donal Logue was also in Vikings on the history channel
I remember first seeing him as the taxi driver on MTV. He's great in everything I've seen him in. :)
So Tony likes Resident Evil but absolutely HATED the new Ghostbusters? ...Note to self NEVER trust Tony's opinion on movies.
All has to do with expectations going in.
Gamefan i will not accept anything less than a terrifying 2 hour slog thru bravo team’s night, filled with mad scientist experiments and gruesome deaths. GRUESOME.
Can you guys review Mortal Kombat Battle of the Realms? Love to hear your guys opinion
Love resident evil. It's my favorite game series of all time. I loved this movie. It was fun as hell and awesome haha
I had more fun with it then any of the other live action movies.
@@fosko7494 right? Seriously this one was a blast. The other ones took themselves way too seriously haha.
Never got the hate for this movie. Play RE 1. The original. It's so delightful in how corny and B movie it was. This one channeled that cheese from the OG.
@@rossazner5918 agreed
Neal McDonough is going to end up playing Dr Wily in a Mega Man movie. Poor guy 🤣🤣
Resident Evil/Biohazard was inspired by an older game called Sweet Home. Home I'd also a residence. Just one man's thoughts.
Interesting. Everyone has said that this movie is complete trash, and that they ruined Leon and Wesker specifically. It will be interesting to hear your take.
I liked how they made Wesker seemingly more human, he's not a robot or a drone.
People treat their favorite franchises like their own baby. Nothing is ever good enough. This was honestly my favorite resident evil movie since the original.
@@brandonguthrie8122 Oh wow, that's awesome to hear!
@@brandonguthrie8122 it's unfortunate but truth. Look at Star Wars or Trek
I haven’t seen it yet, but I’ve also heard a lot of positive things from fans and non fans.
They called it resident evil because they couldn’t use biohazard, they had employees create name ideas and take a vote on the one they liked the best.
oooooo already getting that ratio love....
If two people can be a tag team, the two people can be a Bravo Team. I'm just happy they TRIED.
Over 2 years ago already, daaamn... I miss Kieeerrnnn...
For anyone who says is by far the best RE adaptation has not yet seen the CG animated movies created by Capcom themselves.
I think they did a awesome job on this resident evil movie dope as hell
Resident evil name came from a winner from a game magazine. In USA.
Guys what about a Dino Crisis movie? That was another great game by Capcom.
There is Moster hunter the movie that has Milla Jovovich
Kieran's belch is the new plot of the show. I have declared this. Thus, it is so.
Hold on, theres a character named Richard Aiken? Dick Aching...LMFAO
20:35 actually america does have debtor's prison.
I had fun with this one
I just got out of the theater. I'm a big Resident Evil game fan, and actually I liked the film. I only liked the first Re movies from 2002 and 2004. This is basically the movie version of two games in one. where it is biggest disappointment. I wanted to see more of the mansion than the police station. It felt like a 90s film which is basically the games we're released. It's got issues, but it's decent.
I saw the band Biohazard several times when i was a teenager.... they were bad ass
Search the song Biohazard “Tales from the Hardside” and tell me whos gonna steal their name?
6:10 You mighta meant "Leon" instead dunno.
Jon Peters interfered with all the Superman and Batman movies he was involved with. Not bad for being Barbara Streisand's hair stylist.
Welcome to raccoon city is definitely the best live action film not perfect but way more RE then the other crap movies.
The first Anderson one is magnitudes better than this slap in the face of a Resident Evil movie.
