- Tony with Newt and Crystal review Evil Dead from 2013. In this Podcast / Movie Review of this remake we talk about all the stuff that makes it extreme! Like the insane practical effects, the incredible sound design, and the gallons of blood that pour from the sky!
Mia (Jane Levy), a drug addict, is determined to kick the habit. To that end, she asks her brother, David (Shiloh Fernandez), his girlfriend, Natalie (Elizabeth Blackmore) and their friends Olivia (Jessica Lucas) and Eric (Lou Taylor Pucci) to accompany her to their family's remote forest cabin to help her through withdrawal. Eric finds a mysterious Book of the Dead at the cabin and reads aloud from it, awakening an ancient demon. All hell breaks loose when the malevolent entity possesses Mia.

Hey guys. Do you know what that horror movie is called where the guy jumps his dirt bike into a force field and dies. Then they go into a lab and see all the monsters like werewolves, cenobites, ghost, vampires. Basically every horror movie monster. I think a knockoff Jason was in there too.. Then the world starts to end and I think the 2 people smoke a joint and the movie ends.

Saw this in the theatre with a friend who told me before the movie started that the only horror movie he had seen was Jurassic Park.

I was ether lucky or unlucky who thought I can handle anything. I watched XTRO as a child. The only movie that got to me oddly enough.was Critters.
I saw this in the theater, and had Taco Bell aftwards.. I got food poisoning and thought my entire digestive tract was possessed by a demon, looked kinda like The Exorcist without the young and old priests.

this movie's good for a remake. the main actress is good. the part where she's looking out the corner of her eye at the 'demon' was scary as hell.

Take a look at all the first letters - DEMON.
Fun fact it’s real fire and they used an old movie technique and then they touched it up with CGI so its not just practical or CGI. I was thinking the samething when it first came out so I did some research when the Blu-ray came out and that was on it.

Newt, my man, I did the same thing to my ex-fiance, I have trouble interrupting so I understand the feeling about not meaning it and I am glad you guys pointed it out to try and fix it cause it's bad for everyone you don't wanna hurt your friends by interrupting but it's not easy to control. Great episode guys! While I do like the chaotic energy of Newt and tipsy Newt a lot, sometimes a quieter Newt is refreshing.
Still one of my favorite remakes.
They did release an unrated version on blu ray, it's awesome!

I own every single Evil Dead because it being the first horror movie that I watched as a teenager the 1980 one. The 2013 one I was really glad that it wasn't just a retelling of the original or the second one but it did use plenty elements from those 2 movies but the story is different
There is an unrated cut of this. It was only released here in the states semi recently, but it has been available overseas for a good while. It's about 5 min longer and has the scenes that are in the trailer that were missing from the theatrical edition.
The unrated cut was released the same day all the other home releases came out....I've owned the blu-ray for years
It wasn't teased the same day as all the other releases. It was quite some time later and a lot later than some Europe countries.
I saw this in the theater, the 3d made the knife licking, nails/needle eye, and blood rain scenes look AWESOME

Saw this in the theaters with my buddy in 2013. It is still literally the bloodiest film I've ever seen. BTW, Crystal owes Newt a punch in the face for the last episode.

The Bruce Campbell at the end is like the end of split where it randomly connected with a movie I never saw or heard of
I think everyone I saw it with saw Bruce at the end of the movie and said, "Hey, it's the dude from Congo!"
My favorite part of the entire movie is......
"Groovy" after the credits, that being said I do like this movie.

This film works very well in between the second and third seasons of Ash vs Evil Dead. If you forgive a few discrepancies (as many are used to with the Evil Dead series.) Multiple timelines and such.

This was a great remake (if you can call it that with Ash at the end) so much blood and gore I loved it

Great Episode, Evil Dead is probably my favorite horror franchise along with Hellraiser & Texas Chainsaw. We just saw Bruce Campbell at the Bruce-O-Rama where he screened Evil Dead II & I'm finally getting my copy of Bach Ke Zara (Bollywood Evil Dead 2008). I just need a bootleg copy of Within the Woods. Can't wait for Evil Dead Rise

Well Bruce Campbell said in a interview that evil dead 2 ain't a remake it just that they don't had the right of their own movie so they couldn't use the footage so they reshoot some scene

Speaking of great sound design...the first movie The Evil Dead has phenomenal sound design. Most of that movie is Just Bruce Campbell reacting to crazy things, and it is actually kinda scary. The sound is what makes that movie. Very chilling.

I put this movie off for years because I love the original so much I assumed I would hate it ( because Hollywood ruins everything I love ) yet I was shocked how much I liked it .

Wow i won't skip the ad but i see now that newt was friend zoned by Crystal a long long time ago.
Can't remember if I saw it opening night, but me and my oldest brother went to see it around then and I fondly remember us two choosing to wait during the credits cause of the Ash cameo at the end, and as we did, one of the theater employees approached us and gave us and those who saw the film freebie movie passes to our confusion, yet we took 'em anyway. As it turns out, me and my brother didn't realize it, but during the scene with Mia slices up her tongue with the box cutter, someone in the audience behind us actually fainted from it. It's always that kind of story you swear people make up, but it happened for real. And I think we used the freebie passes on "The Avengers"? I know it was a MCU film.
As for the film itself, me and my brother enjoyed it. Not perfect by any means, but certainly one of the better remakes.
