  • this 3.2 litre Mazda BT50 was presented to us with multiple faults present,
two underlying faults were present, first one was misfire present and was caused by an injector which was dismantled and reassembled incorrectly to fit it into the vehicle. once the misfire was repaired we were able to look at the original fault which ended up being the fuel temperature sensor attached to the fuel pump. our reading on a cold start was sitting around 110 - 120C where on cold start should be at ambient air temp

    Man,
How do you charge for diagnostics like that ?
Does your time equal half the value of the vehicle if sold ?
    Or
Do you let customers off for teaching you things that you've never seen before yourself ?
Education is never free .. I know this as a fact ..
Nice that you were the 3rd Mechanic to finally fix it ..
How much had the customer Spent prior to your Bill ?
Not being disrespectful .. just wanting to know what a Problem like this could cost due to incompetence or error ..
Thanks for sharing your Wisdom 👍👍

Great work Phil. I have a 3.2 Ranger and I've got the same issue as well with a bit of a knock coming off it as well. This video is very helpful so I'm going to have a look atthe injectors and see what's happening there. I've only replace injector 5 as the nozzle was clogged.
That fuel temp sensor reading is an interesting one.

      Replace all 5 injectors

      @mackietrent Год назад

Thanks I'll do that. This has also caused the RPM to be restricted to 2000 as well.
Do you also have a detailed video on setting the timing for this engines? If you don't, would love to see you upload one as well. Thanks

Hi Phil , Are those 3.2 engines generally reliable ? Or is the Isuzu engine better. I’m about to buy a 2014/15 Ute and it’s a lot of money for me. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

are you sure it was a bad temp sensor , same thing happened to a mates 3.2ltr. turned out he reconnected the fuel hoses incorectly after he did a fuel filter change.

I have been having an issue with car switching off as i approach a robot intermittently... Mechanic says it's the crank sensor even though it's not throwing an error code...?
I have also started get no boost recently and error code states fuel pressure regulator - pressure too high... Did a full reset yesterday and boost seems to be back...
    Any recommendations?

Having the same problem with my Ranger. Is the fuel temp sensor on the injector pump? Did you replace just the sensor or the whole pump?

What would cause a ford ranger px3 3.2L to crank and not start when hot at normal operating temps ?
But start fine when waiting 20 mins to cool down..
When started it drives as normal no loss in power.
Battery is fine and no fault codes thrown.

    • @PTPrecisionAutomotive

mate sorry could be many things get it to a diesel mechanic., Injectors.

@PTPrecisionAutomotive turns out it was the CAM position sensor... when it was hot it was faulting. Cooled CAM sensor down with water from water bottle and it would start as normal..
The ford diagnostic laptop showed the cam sensor fault code also.
Strange how the basic hand held scanner wouldn't show the code ??
Ford Replaced CAM sensor and the engine runs smoother than it ever did new...must have been a partially faulty sensor from new with now only 34k on odometer and replaced temp sensor and now cam sensor ...hopefully get some trouble free use from the PX3 ranger....🤞

Same problem, put up with it for years. No one could find the problem. Ford played dumb. Anyway, mine turned out to the crank sensor.

why cant the computer thingy check all parameters they tell you fuel temp is too high, eg, outa speck or out of normal operating range ????

Check the wiring loom at front top right it wears thru
Needs a bit of hose with zip tie
Makes them go into limp mode
It could be that as well

G'day Phil, I've got a 2014 BT50 with a touch over 120,000km on it. Would you recommend changing out the injectors as preventative maintenance? I replace the fuel filter every 20,000km.

They are quite pricey mine has 220,000 on original injectors. I'm terrorfied they will fail at any minute and fry the pistons
