Thank you, this was all kinds of enjoyable. I join you in celebrating that Canon has put such great sensors in the R8, R6II, and the R6. The EOS 6D had a tremendous sensor, and I know of a German portrait guy who put 900K and 1.3M shots on a pair of 6D bodies with no mechanical issues (and no cleanings!). The 6D was a wonderful utility photographer's friend, and I'm sticking with its grandchild, the R6, because the sensor is terrific for all kinds of stage, theater, speaker, interview, school classroom, candid, and event photos. I shot a science fair photo at ISO 20,000 with the R6, and after color correction in LR, noise reduction with Adobe's new AI (!!!!!), and a pass through Radiant Photo, I was utterly blown away - I would have sworn it was taken at base ISO, this is near-miraculous stuff. I'm 81, 57 yrs of clicks.

Yes, i too was taken by surprise by this combination of sensor, size and price. I’ve actually sold off my R6 in order to get this. Just like you note, i pair it with the 35mm f1.8 which has IS, and i have my cheaper Leica Q3 (at least in my dreams). And i pack along the 16mm f2.8 and the 85mm for lots of versatility. Or just take the 24-105 f4 and its “one (lens) and done.” 😊

I noticed how everyone is drawing attention to the lack of IBIS like no one is taking pictures and just pretend to be tiktok influencer these days SO WE ALL NEED IBIS to create the best content 🙄. I am thinking of upgrading from M50 which is an excellent camera paired with L lenses for the beginners/advanced photographers. Of course professional photographers will choose cameras from different price range but for travellers looking for the upgrade I think canon actually did a good step forward.

I just got it a few days ago, i love it so far. In my opinion its the best value for money (new) hybrid camera money can buy right now. People scoff at the lack of IBIS like its a necessity when anyone doing serious video work probably already has a gimbal... And the small battery can easily be counteracted with USB-C power delivery on your rig when shooting long videos since even a cheap 10000mah power bank can give you 10x the juice. Take all that away and what you're left with is excuses... or perhaps elitism. And maybe if you're still salty about the budget king you can go and buy the R6 mark ii so everyone will know you had 1000 extra dollars to spend xD

As you‘ve mentioned in this video, there are some small and affordable lenses in the Canon mirrorless lineup. As a travel- and streetphotographer those smaller lenses are quite tempting for me.

Yes, thank you for watching. I only took 50mm 1.8 and 16mm 2.8 for the R8 and I liked them a lot. Other than some minor lens flare while shooting into the sun, I didn't notice any issues and was quite happy with the images especially for the price. I didn't have it with me, but I also used to own the 35mm 1.8 and I really liked that lens as well. They're not the most durable/rugged feeling lenses but I like their size and weight, and considering 3 of these lenses cost about $800 or less with some sales that are happening now, I don't think that's such a bad thing.

Your content is immensely valuable to us shooters. One of the things keeping me on the fence on purchasing this camera is whether the lack of a fully mechanical shutter will prevent me from shooting with a strobe outdoors, using a very wide aperture lens and a shutter speed past 1/1000. I prefer going the professional route of ND filters to reduce incoming light but always loved that option as a backup if I don't have my filters on my person at that moment. The M50 users, who want to upgrade------ need a body like R10 (perfect price 879USD), a good overall zoom like 18-55mm F2.8-4, a prime like 22m F2 as well as log profile (just like A6400 in this price point).
As a M50 user, I was really curious about R8 but if it had a joystick like the R10 it can be perfect. R10 also could be perfect if it had a Log profile and some image stabilized prime and a good kit lens (with faster F stop like 2.8). I also have a complaint about the kit lens of R8 (24-50mm), why Canon made that although 24-105mm (f4-7.1) was present. Actually, the M50 users are really confused now------ I was looking for XS-20 but it also seems expensive for me and now see what Sony move forward with a replacement of the A6400.

I though Panasonic S1 was the perfect camera for me. I went to DP review and looked at the sample photos of the R8 and they were gorgeous. The I looked at the S1 pictures and they were terrible. Is R8 better than X-T4? I have used the X-T100 a lot for landscapes and I hate the jpeg engine cos it is oversharp so I set sharpness in camera to minus 1 and sometimes 2 and yet that camera feels off a bit. I like the eosM100 a lot and also Sony a5100 because pictures are great also when I pixel peep. And I always do that because I have to know how the image quality is all the way to the pixels level cos I have cameras that I just cant stand like the lumix LX100 because its too mushy and noisy for me to enjoy it. I like the R8 a lot but price is only "reasonable" among Canon bodies. Is it competitive? Technically it seems neck and neck with the 3-year-old Nikon Z5, which is cheaper (and sometimes on sale for $500 less than the R8 is now) and has in-body stabilization. Add in the fact that Canon defends its lens mount against 3rd party lenses, and you end up with a pricier camera with fewer lens choices (and fewer affordable ones of high quality).

    • @HyunRalphJeong
      @HyunRalphJeong  Год назад

It all depends on what you need. Z5 has IBIS, bigger battery, and dual card slots, R8 has a newer sensor and much better video specs and a lighter body.

If as rumored the updated Z5ii comes out this year at the price of the R8 Canon will have a lot to worry about. (But competition is good for us.)

But I'm wondering if adding the lens mount onto the R8 and my existing lenses will defeat the purpose of the lighter body? And I should possibly just look at a whole new body & lens set up.

Hello and thank you for watching the videos. In terms of size, I'm thinking smaller lenses like the 50 1.8 won't really affect the overall size and weight even with the adapter, and same with the 70-200, the lens is already big, a little bit of added length won't be too noticeable.
But eventually, you'd want to replace the ef-s lenses to full frame lenses because your images will be cropped on a full frame camera.

I think Canon could include ibis in the camera of this price point. I have a real problem - a very shaky hands, so my photos very often go smeary, especially in situations of low light, etc. I really need ibis for hand held stills shooting, it is very inconvenient for me to carry a monopod or a tripod for casual shooting (good photos, not from the smart-toy-cam), especially nowadays there is a very small amount of lenses with a stabilization built-in. That's a shame

I was looking into the Canon R8. Just because it has 4K does not make it a better. Or even better tracking focus then the Canon RP. My Leica type 109 was able to do 4K and that was back in 2014. Canon got to really consider pricing their products compared to their competitors. The Canon R8 in my view is not worth paying $1500. It's more like a $800 in value. There is better cameras on the marketplace for $1,500.

@@hugochen2359 No shutter issues so far. The sensor, in my opinion, is still pretty good. The dynamic range is a bit low but otherwise I can't fault it. I mainly shoot stills.

@@DjimmyTrovy Also about what % of the performance does the RP bring you to the R8? I don’t care about video capabilities at all and most youtubers factor that into their opinion… I only want the perspective from the photography quality standpoint, like sensor, shutter speed, AF etc…
My plan might be to get a few good ef lenses that dont break the bank, try the RP second handed, and if I like full frame I’ll get the R8 if I don’t I’ll get the R7. Then I’ll sell the RP for a small lost.
