- This video explains what is new with the Cleveland Turbo HB Irons. It will also provide an explanation as to what I think the clubs perform like.

I've been playing the HB irons for a year. They're the most accurate and forgiving irons I've ever played. I'm 71, been playing for 50 years, at a 12 handicap.
That’s great glad you’re enjoying them !!!
I love my HB irons. They are excellent for players of any age.
Have not hit my new clubs yet but I just recently purchased the Cleveland Turbo Iron set. And I think I am going to like them and hopefully helps my game...enjoyed your video. 👍
I love the look of these Irons. Will be in my bag come spring time
Tom...thanks for your reply to my comment. I really appreciate you taking the time to do so. I’m subscribed to your You Tube channel. You always give fair and honest reviews, educational, and unbiased...not “infomercials” promoting a given club. Based on your review (and one or two others) of the Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo irons, I went to my local golf shop to try them out for myself...to see how they would work for a 71 year old high handicapper weakened by Prostate cancer. The results were really good, and I ended up with the 8i-PW. They have performed equally well on the course, helping bringing my scores back down (so far) to the low 90’s and (so far) my handicap down from 21 to 19.
Keep up the good work!
Let me know how you get on with them keep me posted !!
Great video. I played with it's 2010 predecessor the HB3 and loved them. I'm using my father's Ping G20s but looking at getting fitted for a set of the new Launcher HB turbos.
Years ago I went to all hybrids, because for every clean shot I hit with my irons I'd hit another thin and another fat. However, the hybrids weren't accurate. I might have hit the green 40% of the time. I got a set of Launcher HB this spring and dropped 8 shots off my average. I still hit the occasional thin and fat shots, but even when I do the result is still pretty good. I'm hitting greens 90% of the time, so where most of my pars before were up and down from off the green now it's two putts from on the green, which makes for a lot more pars. I still make more bogeys than I'd like, but my number of doubles is down to maybe two per 18 holes.
I have the Wilson Launch Pad version of these. I tried both at my fitting and the differences were very slight. I preferred the lighter swing weight- C9, of the Wilson with the graphite shafts.
Just got the Cleveland launcher clubs Hitting the ball well with plenty of loft Works well no miss hits Good for seniors
i just bought these i have never hit irons straighter they are amazing and smooth
I do game the Cleveland irons.
I love the extra height and I love hitting hybrids so I think these are a no brainer.
I think older players should try these.
I’m an 8 handicap at 69 years old
i am convinced. will give them a try. thanks for this
I agree with Crossfield, I believe his name is, when he described these as "legal cheating". Try them. The most forgiving irons you'll ever hit. They do have a real high ball flight that might be a bit much for some, but just adjust what club your hitting like dropping a club and you can still punch it with these to if the shot requires keeping it down. All around great irons.
Purchased these Clevelands in Jan 2021, via Silvermere GC and Iam over the moon with them.
Just invested in a set 4 - PW, graphite shafts. Played just once so far, but performed great!
I just got these and played today. Easiest clubs to hit I have ever used in 20 years.
I’m giving these a try after lockdown. !
I tried them, I bought them, I love them. It is definitely forgiving as my often off center hits did not turn out disastrously. I'm talking about still getting on the green on par 3's but just right or left of the flag. I do not have a problem with looks on most of my clubs. I just want the club to perform and help my game. Try them out and if you can just concentrate on what the clubs can do for you, I think you will seriously consider putting them in your bag.
It's amazing how all the videos on these clubs start with how clunky and unappealing to the eye they are. And all the videos end with how amazing they really are. I just bought them and I love them, warts and all!
No pictures on a scorecard !
@@TomPalmerGolf It's always amazed me how some golfers think What Brand they play or how they look actually means something. It's the same for ball brands........some think they have to have Titleist ProV1 or they're nobody ! So silly and childish, they could be using a ball that actually gives them greater distance or stopping power for their swing speeds, but nooooo, they gotta show off their ProV1's........lol
Going to check these out if anything might just get in a 3 or 4 & 5.
They look like an iron and a hybrid had a baby.
Cleveland is really doing some good things in terms of innovation.
I play with the cleveland turbo irons currently one-handed off 18, and love them!
That's amazing !!
I put a 4 iron in my bag as I'm not keen on the roll and bulge of a hybrid. Not had chance to game it on the course yet. Great video by the way
Thanks Andy really appreciate!!
I have considered using these. I currently play with the Ping I3s, and have been seeing some improvement with my iron striking, but if I could rent these and try them I would probably do so. Being a lefty, it’s sometimes difficult to find clubs to rent.
I have some hb3's... still love them, they are so easy to hit and are very straight
Ye nice forgiving clubs !!
Great presentation! I don’t think they look that bad. Good Stuff!! Thank You!
Thanks so much for the feedback
Well, I’m ready to try anything. I struggle with my irons and maybe these would help. Thanks for the video! 👍
No worries at all ! they're so easy to get into the air
I was fitted for these last year. They are great for us high handicappers. I tried Wilson launchpad, cobra hybrid irons , and maverick max and had best results with Cleveland. I’m really enjoying these clubs.
Hello Bob hope you are still enjoying the clubs. Do they mark easily, thinking about the paintwork on the back of the club, do you use headcovers.
Stay safe
@@melwalker2135 I don’t use headcovers, but probably should have. I’ve played a lot of rounds with them, and the black on the back looks pretty beat up! However, I’m still very happy with these clubs.
I love these clubs I bought them 6 year ago
Hi - I don’t know about others but for me it’s the best results, not looks that are important.
just ordered😈 watch out world🤣 hopefully this time next year I won't suck within 150 yards of the green
Just bought these irons, look forward to trying them out.
Let me know how you get on with them 👍🏻
Got the 5,6,7,8 with the steel shafts. Feel great at contact but, at 72 yrs., I’m wondering if I should have gone with graphite. I’m going to try out the graphite shafts to see if it would be worth the money to make the switch.
Just ordered my Cleveland Turbo Graphite shafts........bring it on...
Great video, why not to the ultimate test! The HB turbo versus Cobra T rail versus Wilson Launch pad.
I would love to do that video just getting hold of all of the clubs 👌🏼
vs. Callaway Big Bertha B21 Hybrid/Irons. I went to Dick's Sporting Goods and swung several irons and noticed the CBB's were pretty fat like these HB Turbos. I really liked the weight of both of them. The CBB's were quite a bit more expensive, but they also had larger heads making them look even easier to hit.
I bought a set of the launcher HB a couple years ago and wish I had my Ping I-3 irons back. I have a hard time getting high shots. My Pings would go over trees and the HB puts the ball in the trees and the distance is shorter as well .
Yes I would play this hb turbo
good video, thanks for the review
No worries thanks for watching :)
I love cleveland hybrids and wedges.... so tempted.
Let me know John if you decide to get them !
I'm 80 so I would definitely try them
how did you get on Paul ?
These are my dream golf clubs!!!
Why the obsession with look over function?. Anything that makes golf easier to master during the learning phase is a good thing, single length irons, hybrids instead of long irons, why make golf harder than need be? I tried the HB launcher turbo irons and was impressed. So easy to get good results
Kym Stock, they’re a great performing club. I agree it is really important to make things easier rather than harder. People do buy irons solely around the look of the club though as it is also an important factor. Looks and performance is what people want. But yes make life easy for yourself !
One word.
Ego.
I once decided to walk around the course and only hit the 7 iron and higher because I had ZERO confidence in my driver, woods etc...
I was actually doing better than my mates and got serious grief for it.
Amazing how much better the game is when you're constantly on the fairway.
But each time I pulled that 7 iron out on the tee, I felt pressure to get the driver out instead.
So hard to control that ego.
@@TomPalmerGolf Dead wrong. PERFORMANCE trumps looks every EVERY time.
@@RobPeevy 💤
Played its predecessor very good How does this compare with the Cobra T Rail and Wilson Launchpad?
Thanks. Thinking of getting these.
Did you get them ?
Just ordered these irons 6-pw. Have struggled with my irons for last two years. A six iron used to go 160, now 140. Old and knackered. Will report back when I get the Clevelands.
Keep me posted with how you get on !
Just back from a quick go at the driving rage. Impressed. Very forgiving and longer. Six iron now going 160 again @@TomPalmerGolf
Good on you . New subscriber from America. Hope your family and you are well?
Joe Whitt Hi Joe, thanks so much for the subscribe glad you enjoy the content !! Yes all good over here hope everything is all good your end ? 👍🏻
Made my mind up of goin hybrid always on hardpan ground not sure if the Cobra T rail would do better. Make a comparison video if you can.
I have these and I love them
I just can't hit my irons. Can't get the mechanics worked out to strike the ball correctly. I'll slam it in the ground or thin it and it tears my elbow up. I can hit my 4 and 5 hybrid really well though. Will my hybrid swing translate to hitting these hybrid irons properly or is it still a more traditional iron swing mechanic you use with these clubs?
Been playing HB Launchers for several years. 67 years old, index = 12. Higher ball flight than traditional irons.
Hi Tom, great video, would like to try these
Thanks Richard
Yes I would use them !
I like the looks of them
Great clubs
These kind of remind me of my Adams A12, the 4, 5, and 6 are hybrids, and 7 and up are more traditional.
Just took delivery yesterday, my fitting turned up some weird numbers, my taylor mades were cut down 1/2 inch and this did not seem to work, back to standard and away we go.
76. 55 years worth of golf. Had them for 3weeks have had hybrids but am I terested in ball positions for these club different to my wazaki s
I do play these of a 9 handicap, 16 & 19 degree hybrids ,then 5 to pw with 4 rtx wedges, best clubs a ever
I would like to try these.
Tom I am looking very seriously at the Launcher. I have recently restarted playing after a series of operations and at my age, 71, they seem to be the answer to getting the ball in the air.
They do go in air a lot easier 👌🏼
I have the Cobra T-rails. They are high and soft, but short. So you grab one more club. Also, they are fantastic chipping clubs. That might be the single biggest stroke saver of all.
Do they help prevent shanks?
@@michaelashworth7294 That's not the club pal.
After watching the video Tom ,worth trying , to see how they feel .
Martin Segelov Dental Surgery give them a go mate you wouldn’t need these though you hit your irons well enough !!
These will be my next clubs - easy to hit and launch - say no more!
I have the prior model and recommend you at least try a 4 or 5 iron to get those nice straight fairway shots.
Brilliant clubs 👌🏼
Iam thinking about getting a set of the Cleveland.my normal irons are callaway x hot.7 iron is not my best club in the bag
I am using the driver and 4,6,8 irons at the moment
I have them in my bag now great clubs
How you getting on with them ??
Could you do a comparison of the Cleveland HMB turbo and the Wilson launch pad irons?
Good call Wayne .. Yea.. the Wilson Launchpad irons and also maybe the Cobra T-Rail irons..
Good irons for anyone who struggled with irons!
Dropped my handicap from a 27 to currently a 16 by using these irons
I bought a set of the Cleveland HB Launchers ( not Turbos) for my wife to learn with. I recently picked up a half set Tour Edge hybrid -irons. My assessment is that if you are a slicer of the ball, these are for you. If you want to shape your shots both ways, then maybe they are not for you. Great more learners and as a replacement for long irons in an more experienced golfers bag.
I looooove my HB Turbo (ladies) so forgiving and consistent, nothing but Cleveland in the bag... HB Launcher Turbo Driver (12deg), Halo 2 Hybrid, HB Launcher Turbo 5 Wood, a CBX 50 wedge, my putter and these babies... HB Launcher Turbo Irons! (Irons in 6 to 9, PW, SW). The looks aren’t even noticeable on the course for me, they look like a typical iron and the black just looks like a shadow in the grass, to be honest it’s about how well they perform... such an underrated brand Cleveland is, but I love the reasonable pricing of them (not spending extras on adjustable hosel and weight bolts you just don’t need therefore making them more affordable...). I wouldn’t use anything else!! Quality and consistency, it’s a no brainer!! Brush your egos aside and get your hands on these babies!!
Great videos, thank you 😊
They’re such good clubs nice and easy to hit which is always a bonus and the price is good ! Glad you enjoy yours and thanks so much for the feedback and watching the videos 👍🏻 keep me posted with how you’re getting on !!
@@TomPalmerGolf I will, thank you! 😊 (Note: These are my second set by Cleveland, I had more traditional irons before the turbos, I could hit those well too but these are like butter.)
I bought you set today I'm a pretty high handicap so hopefully these help me out
Ho you been getting on with them ?
I would love to get a set got to find a sentence regular shaft
Hi Tom thanks for reply just curious 😉
Hey loved the video
Thanks so much
Ive been drooling over these for over a year. I cant hit an iron more than 150yd, no matter the loft, but my hybrids fly 210+.
kauaigold might be worth giving them a go then !!
@@TomPalmerGolf I have no qualms about the looks, make fun of the "old man clubs" all they want it doesnt bother me. The limiting factor for me is cost, even the previous generation sets are in the 450-500$ range still.
I have the same issue can’t hit a 7 iron 150. I am going to check out the clev, cobra and PXG 7 SGI and XF Gen 2 since there on sale and get one of them.
@@thoashamel260 PXG are generally geared toward better players (IE guys who dont slice lmao) so those would be my last pick. Cobras have a little offset in em, helps a ton with slicers.
kauaigold Thanks. I don’t slice, I just am unable to generate much more than 140 yards from my 7 iron. I do like the Cobras but not a complete set.
I think the big question for a lot of high handicappers considering a hybrid iron set like this is do they perform better than a regular foregiveness set of irons like the Ping G710's or other top brand ???
Yep they do
In the rough the fat sole just smooths right through it
If i fat one on hard ground it doesn't break your wrists
Played over 20 rounds with them, and i love them
Have a good day
Looking to try the Cleveland luncher irons just getting back into playing after 7yrs off.
Did you give them a go ?
New subscriber and just ordered a set of these today, 7-GW.
Jim Johnson let me know how you get on with them Jim ! 👍🏻
How are they?
@@tmo4330 With the lockdown, I haven;t been out yet. This weekend I'll give them a review. Thanks!
@@tmo4330 Had a chance to play today. Liked the launchers a lot. A bit lower ballflight, but very solid feelijng.
I already use hybrids for my 4 and 5 irons. I wonder if I would suit these. I do however hit my irons well and like to manipulate the height of my shots sometimes.
Always worth giving them a go ! 👍🏻
@@TomPalmerGolf lol I just don't know if I can afford being impressed by them 😂😂😂
I’m subscribed!!!!!
Love that !
Please compare the Wilson D7 to the Wilson Launchpad irons!
Will try get hold of them 👍🏻
great job
Thanks so much
I would love to try a set of hybrid irons
Give them a go will help you get the ball in the air much easier
Good video and very timely! High 5! I have the 2017-2018 Cleveland Launcher HB irons and as a low ball flight hitter it is amazing how high the 7/8/9/PW irons flies. Per my note below don't scoop or pick clean sweep when swinging these hybrid looking irons as for me the angle of attack needs to be down. I think the pros say to hit down ~5-7 degrees?
I am looking at these Turbo Hb's now thinking Cleveland Golf redesigned these after getting all the data from the originals and making them even better?
Mr Palmer what are your best tips to get these up in the air and do you think the new model is improved over the 2017 version?
RITZ G you’re correct I hit down on the ball about 6 degrees, in terms of what’s changed from 2017 to these ones they have just improved on every area of forgiveness, centre of gravity ect. In terms of getting these in the air just keep working on the strike of the ball the better you can get your swing these clubs should go high keep working on that strike !! Hope this helps and you enjoy the rest of my videos ! 👍🏻
love it
hi.... what is the difference between cleveland hb trbo and cleveland xl halo golf clubs and a video explaining the both at the same video,,,,i cannot find that..
cheers
Halo xl are the latest version.
i was gonna get one, but found it cheaper to hire a kid to run to the green and drop my ball in the cup! 😋 My handicap is ZERO
I bought a set of the original hb irons mainly for the 4,5,6 7 irons, because I struggle to hit them consistently. What I found was that I hit all of them way further than my old clubs and way more consistently. But, also, I found hitting the 8,9,pw and absolute delight, so there is no way I taking those out of the bag. Like them more than my rtx4 wedges!
How do you play them as far as ball position? Is it like a hybrid or more like a iron ?
@@keasy395 more like an iron. The length of the club is just that little bit shorter than a hybrid. Saying that, the 4 iron is a bit of a strange club. The 5 iron is great club that gets great distance and has a fantastic ball flight.
What handicap are you off? I’m off 16 and thinking about getting a set?
Just came across your review . Would you consider the Halo would xbe capable of helping taking down a hand o.j. capper from say 30 to 20 handicap and beyond as would Ping 430 or Callaway Rogues? Chris
It all depends on how you find striking irons! if you struggle with hitting irons the Cleveland launchers are the one ! I'm back posting every week now so keep your eyes out for more content !
Love to have them
Hi, can anyone comment on the pw/dw - do they still feel the full benefit of this technology or best to get a specialised wedge like the cbx2?
The pw performs really well, but i am ok with my 8,9 and pw ....so if anything they would be the only clubs i might change as I get even better
The pw makes a great chipper around the greens, and the 6 is perfect for those bump and runs onto the green
Definitely made my game more fun
I bought a set of the previous HB Launcher irons with Senior flex graphite shafts for my wife as her first set. Now that I have used them I think they are really good. In answer to your question, I have CBX2 SW 56 and LW 60 in my set ( the only non one -length irons ) and really think they are great. In comparison, I don't think there is much difference between a cavity back & HBT PW and DW/ GW in getting the ball on the green with full or partial shots. The benefit of the CBX2 sole grinds is in the close in pitch and chip partial shots. In my hands ( handicap 13) I can use the HB Launcher PW & GW well and with confidence. I hope that helps.
They need to make a hybrid 3 iron on this
I would be willing
Great clubs
JUST BOUGHT 4 WEEKS AGO. BOUGHT SENIOR SHAFT. THINK I BLEW IT I'AM 69 SLOW SWING SPEED HAVING TROUBLE SOME IDEAS PLEASE THANK YOU
You have to still hit down on the hybrid like irons and not think scooping up. Hit down 5-7 degrees downward angle of attack (not too steep though) and these HB Turbo irons will fly higher than you have been used to.
Absolutely
Would you recommend these to a complete novice? Or try them with a standard club design first and maybe move to these if required ?
Rob Wilkins id always start with a traditional then move to these mate if they were really struggling !
I would suggest iron-hybrid up to the 6 iron , then 7 iron to GW in cavity backed for ability to draw and fade the scoring irons. These type of irons don’t fade easily. If you are a slicer, get a full set.
To all You Tube golf club reviewers: A suggestion...when reviewing max game improvement clubs made specifically for high handicappers, seniors, slow swingers (I’m all 3) please have the testing done by golfers in those categories.
Hi Mark, sometimes hard to get people to do the testing unfortunately but at least I provided a review and I think they are great improvement irons
yes i will
Defo use them
