hi
Hi Rick
I love your content
Imagine what Leo could do with this Rick
Hi Rick I love your VIDS
Come visit Cape Town South Africa some day
“23 yards and I’m hitting it as hard as I possibly can!” Basically me with a driver.
RCDB: I literally LOL’d at that :-)
Thanks for the laugh, priceless comments dude!
Why admit this?
Had a bad day but this made me lol like for real 😂😂😂😂
@@GarrettPederson253 why not?
Tries to smash it, goes 43 yards, tries to play a ten yard flop shot, hits it 60 yards, THAT describes my game down to a tee😂
You must be copying my style lol.
Same lol 😂
I laughed so hard when he hit that blade shot hahahahaha
Literally the most frustrating thing in golf IMO!
Skulling it.
I think we all felt it when Rick absolutely skulled it over the green.
That's when you start power walking through the last 6 holes
That my golf life story. 😭😭
Brought back so many memories.
Hey rick! I’m a mechanical engineering major and was also curious how high the ball went so I did some math. With the info you gave (85 mph club head speed, 70 degrees loft (ish), 23 total yards, and about 3 seconds of flight time) I found that the ball went about 75 feet in the air. This isn’t exact cause of the rough perimeters given. But it gives you some idea at least!
Would be interesting to hear what the launch angle actually was. Looking at TXG's recent test of the Kirkland Signature vs. SM8 wedges, with a 56° wedge the launch angle was around 30-32°, and with a 60° wedge it was around 31-34°, depending on the shot. That's with wedges that really grip the ball and give you high spin, so if this was a lower spin wedge (as Rick mentioned it might be) then it could launch higher, but still I'd be surprised if it was anything like 70° degrees.
As a total distance travelled through the air with the curve, or at the apex height?
@Reavx the ball carried 23 yards, or 69 feet, and considering it’s a 70 degree club, I highly doubt Brian means the total length of the curve was 75 feet…
@@golf398 It seems like that would be an upper bound, since air resistance would only slow the descent, and I don't see another force that could be acting on the ball
I love the engineering majors acting like a general kinematics equation is something a lot of people couldn't understand. It's literally a high school physics course equation lol
Tomorrow’s vid: “What’s in the bag” 😂
😆
@@RickShielsPGA so is it going or not?
The fact that no one was actually confident enough to stand there 😂
He couldn’t even pay Guy to be the guinea pig.
What are you talking about. Rick was standing there. I saw it on the internet so I know it happened
Everyone: 70° of loft that's plenty.
Rick: Let's open up the face to add even more loft 😂
This channel has very quickly become my absolute go to for anything golf... Great, logical explanations and applications.
Rick wasn't lying on the live when he said there was a surprise at the end
😂
THAT WAS PRETTY COOL AT THE END
Haha that was next-level editing.
Pretty sure it woulda been your best video yet if you had knuckled that ball right onto their green. You are no Leo! Haha. Cheers from L.A.
Lol indeed 😂😂😂
For future viewers: there's a slight editing mistake here-after Rick says "Let's see how far I could hit it" at 7:41, just kindly skip to 10:57
The problem there is he said how far can I hit it not how far can I thin it, that’s two different shots 😁😁😁😁
Ruthless, lol.
Nothing more soul destroying than chinning a lob wedge 60 yards from just off the green...
@@levelup6243 high risk, high reward!?
@@joaocal1 I bump and run with an 8 iron. Flop shots look better but They are less effective unless your Phil Mickelson. Lol.
Love the video. It's a good club review but also I especially love that you leave in the misses. I hit that exact same thin shot yesterday; only after I wasn't laughing as much as you were. We all play golf in the real world which means we don't always make the perfect shot. I love that you keep it real. Keep up the awesome work.
Loving the editing. Been subbed for years and seeing your commitment to content creation and your editing improvements through out the years that ending was very good quality stuff. Keep up the golf content!
Your reviews are always so honest, it makes your covering the cheaper/gimmickier stuff that much more important!
Rick you make the best golf videos! I love that you’re not afraid to show you failures too, I can relate. Keep up the good work.
Funky club review and great editing at the end, this is the standard for all u tube golf channels 👍🏻🏌🏻♂️⛳️ 10/10
11:00 mark.... usually the only time I can hit my 60 wedge 140 yards is when I thin it from the fringe on a 20' chip
Love it!! Love that you bladed one of the shots since I do that with my 60 deg!! Thank you for trying these clubs out!!!
Rick- "The green is 100 yards away im not going to hit it with these" me to myself- "well knowing me ill thin the crap out of it and it will go 120 straight over the green"
Loved the ending!!! Got a question for ya, can you do a video that shows a closeup on how the club face is angled at impact when you're hitting with the 70° club ?
I have the hardest time with my 64° ...I keep duffing the shot on the approach or ruff around the green pretty much like you did .....Lol...( maybe I should be asking LEO! )
Can’t say how much I enjoyed your videos. From club reviews to golfing tips, your channel has really improved my game a bunch. I started disliking golf because I was getting worst but I’m getting better now from your videos thanks!!!
Crossfield would HATE this video which means I love it!! Listened to your podcast and heard about Crossfield having some beef with “ridiculous club reviews”. I’m a serious golfer (5 handicap) and love these reviews along with the serious club reviews! Both are fun and that’s what golf is meant to be, fun! It’s a game after all!!
Outstanding edit at the end. I enjoy these types of videos. Gives golf a different, but good flavor for all types of golfers. Well done.
The editing was fantastic. That's one of the things that sets you apart from the other golf you tubers, your editing has always been top notch!
That ending was pretty cool. Always enjoy the videos thank you for the content
That ending though 😂😂 even the reaction to the ball in the air, absolute gold 😂
Seems like it might be a decent replacement for my sandwedge since it appears to be easier to use in the bunkers and can also make those short flop shots close to the green. I'd give it a go.
The twist is Rick actually has a twin and we’ve never known until now.
How do you think he gets out so much content?! 😂
"This club would only probably be used once or twice in a round..."
*loads up every Rick Shiels, Peter Finch and Matt Fryer course vlog video to count how many times they could have used this*
Lol, yours is like the only comment Rick didn't like 😂
Why wouldn’t you use it every time you got in a bunker? It’s not as good as a regular sand wedge?
Holy SH#T, The ending was cool!
loser
Love the editing with you and yourself both in the end of the video!! And love reviews every time brother keep the content coming 👍👍👍
Don’t know why I’m watching every video you release. I love golf, but haven’t played in several years. I think I’m watching because your content is really good, but really it’s because I love to hear you chuckle after a bad shot. Love what you’re doing. Cheer from Texas, US.
Rick I’ve actually bought all 3 wedges from them. It’s quite costly with shipping and import duty but they are awesome 😎 the 70 takes a while to get used to but the other two are great, just swing on a straight line and has probably already saved about 3 shots a round. Looking forward to really getting to grips with them
Is this club legit and if so where did you purchase it from?
@@brandonhopp9837 I got it from their Facebook page, I bought all 3 wedges but only use the 58 but because of the alignment aid and the bounce on the sole it’s amazing and now my bunker play has Improved at least 80%. It’s very rare that I leave one in now.
First time I’ve chipped in with a flop shot tonight, I come home and rick had a flop shot club video up🔥
Great content Rick!! I loved the effects of you hitting it over yourself. Brilliant! Keep up the good work!
It does my heart good to see you thin a shot like this. Years ago I could his that shot more than now. I've bladed too many times and now I lack the confidence.
No one:
Leo: *_how do I get backspin Rick? Rick? RICK?_*
Hands down best golf channel on RUclips. No BS, no fluff, just straight forward information and perspective. You don't even have to like golf to enjoy 90% of these videos, they're that good.
Another cracking video I've only just found. Loving the cinematics
Rick, I love that you test clubs like these. I think clubs like these can make golf fun for more golfers.
I have a Wilson 68 degree Superfly wedge that was only $30. It's not as pretty as the one you test, but works probably as good. It works great in the sand, for flop shots and surprisingly enough, I also use it for a bump and run shots from dirt lies around the green on my home junk course (it has severe drought damage). Also if you deloft it, you get more distance.
I've always wanted to see this!
Thanks for throwing this into my recommendations RUclips. Been a longtime subscriber to Rick but missed this one. Rick seems like the guy you want to have a beer or 4 with and just laugh the whole time.
Brilliant! I need one of these! You are the best Rick Shiels!
Bought these as well Rick, and had the same experience. Feels like you're slipping a credit card under the ball -- until you skull it. Gotta learn to trust that bounce and make sure you put that head on the deck. It did earn a place in my bag. I replaced my 60 deg. lob wedge with the 70 deg.
Is the teton hybrid driver and the hummingbird 70 degree legit clubs and if so where did you purchase them from?
I've never been big into golf, but my late father was quite the enthusiast. Contrary to what some say about lofting golf balls, I recall times when my father practiced his loft (flop) shots. He'd instruct me to stand still and would tell me, "Stay put and try to catch the golf ball after I hit it." It was astonishing how many of those balls were within catching range, and he never once risked hitting me.
Very nice memory, glad to see golf can mean so much to someone who doesn’t even play. Cheers
What’s better than a Rick Shiels video? One with two Rick Shiels in it! Seriously top ending there Rick! 🤟😎
Awesome video man don’t ever stop reviewing these crazy clubs
After seeing Leo hit that gorgeous flop shot I want to sit in my garage with the car running

Bit late to the party, but I've only just discovered your channel, and I'm loving it. Lots to catch up on! Great videos, many thanks.
Welcome Mark
*Pretty incredible to flop it over yourself Rick, I had a feeling there is a Rick Shiels doppelganger out there*
Hey Rick, I found your channel through Eddie Hall's video! I'm a golfing beginner, and your videos has helped me heaps. I've taken my 9 hole game from a 63 down to a 54 so far after applying some tips I've learned from your videos, and I'm making better progress with each game I play, so thank you!
And yes, I know 53 on a par 36 course is awful 😂
Gotta start somewhere. Keep it up!
Bro I was the same way, he's got me shootin in the 90s now.✌️⛳🏌️18 holes.
AussieMenace. Not awful at all. I know many duffers who have never broken 100. You’re well on your way to do so, and I bet you’ll be in the 80’s to 90’s soon enough. And yes, many of us have benefited from the lessons learned from Rick.
Thank you all for the kind words!
Your videos are just a lot of fun to watch! You are what golf is supposed to be...FUN!
Yooo that end edit was absolute 🔥 love it
I have had a 70 degree wedge for 3-4 years now and it is an awesome club in certain situations. The ball really gets up in the air quickly and can stop almost on dime when it lands on the green. Just have to make sure I dont get too much under the ball, cause I have taken some pretty good swings in thick grass with the wedge and i can get completely under the ball and the ball stays almost right where it originally was. You do need to practice some with a 70 degree wedge to get the feel of how far the ball will travel.
Just a question is there no legal limit to the loft of a club in the rules of golf
@@michaelmathieson1114 Good question. I havent heard about any, I assume if the club meets all the other standard specs of club making, it is probably legal. All you have to do is open or close the face on any club and you change the loft angle. So with my 70 degree wedge, i can even increase the loft on that club to maybe even a 75-80 degree wedge. My 70 degree wedge is great for short distances and dropping the golf ball next to the pin with not much green to work with.
Yesterday I holed in a 60 yard chip on a long par 4 for my first ever birdie with my 56 degree sand wedge. What's funny is I didn't even hit it well, it was kind of a line shot (but with some loft). It bounced on the green and rolled a little bit towards the flag and it went IN. For a guy who's only a few years into this game and shoots 105-110 on a regular day, it was sure as hell a moment of a lifetime.
On a par 4 I shanked my drive into a construction zone then hit into a ditch then chipped out of the ditch for my first birdie
that racing stripe down the middle is awesome, I need that on all my irons and wedges to help me aim
Giggling at the thin through the green, that's so me 😂 also nice bit of editing at the end getting yourself in to lob it over.
Also are the now air270 golf shoes any good? Been looking at them
What an ending! No one was expecting that haha! 😂
Wow, love the idea of that wedge, but as you said you'd probably only use it a couple of times a round, over priced. But I'm with you on the stripe, I like that idea. I love having a go with the flop shot, I probably get 3 out 5 good and the other 2 thin it and nearly wipe out my dad's shins the other side of the green 😂🤣😂🤣 love the videos
Rick, they the Callway Supershot and Supersoft golf balls. You will love them. The feel of the balls off the club are great and the distance you get are phenomenal as well as the feel of the ball off the putter makes it one of the best balls to try.
Brilliant finale Rick ! Enjoyed that.
11:00 atleast we know even pro's blade the ball every now and then ⛳👍🤣 great work Rick! 🍻
Gotta say, the editing in these videos is top notch! Keep it up Rick!
That last edit was awesome! Caught me off guard. Brilliant!
Great vid. Flop shots are great fun. My son and I hit a lot of flopped catches to each other. I did once almost take his head off with a thinned shot - something he's never forgotten! Not used very often TBH but very handy to have every now and then. Cheers from Sydney - Dave
Your last shot got me thinking, it would be pretty great if you played a round against yourself at the "same time". Maybe one of you plays aggressive and the other plays safe. See who wins!?
Nobody:
Rick : let me just open up the face of this 70 degree wedge 😂
Might as well get an 89° wedge at that point.
I loved the big finish! Also the production value :)
Ending was awesome! Way to take it up a notch.
Seriously though, would it replace a sand wedge? It seems like a very good contender, if not “yes”.
Get it engraved with “smoked salmon” then send it to me 🤞🏼😁
You can't engrave a golf club using a fish!
