    Just purchased this monitor for casual games such as the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077, I already have a 240hz monitor for competitive play (in dual-arm setup) and hope this will give me a more immersive experience for first-person open-world games. I'm also happy to see that your review and others say the text clarity is pretty good because I am a coder and hope I can put away my normal 60hz coding monitor for good. Seems like the largest weakness is the dark color motion but based on the reviews I've seen so far that seems acceptable at least for casual play.

    I have this monitor with a RTX 3070 and the black smearing and ghosting with G-sync compatible mode on is terrible when the overdrive settings (response time) is set to "Speed" in the monitors OSD. I also see this happening in your video. Turning the overdrive setting to "balanced" completely solved the smearing and ghosting issues for me (And of course Freesync ON). Maybe a good idea if you could confirm that changing the overdrive setting to balanced also worked for you in case 1000 or 2000 Nvidia series users consider buying this monitor. Also please make sure that G-sync is actually on in the nvidia configuration tool and that the box is checked to turn it on for your monitor (checkbox under 3). I used the G-Sync Pendulum demo to test if G-Sync was working.

    • @PCMonitors
      @PCMonitors  3 года назад +5

      I can assure you, as a seasoned monitor reviewer I'm very thorough in my pixel overdrive testing and fully aware of how to activate 'G-SYNC Compatible Mode'. Our findings are covered in detail in the comprehensive written review - pcmonitors.info/reviews/gigabyte-g32qc/#Responsiveness. And they're summarised in this video review. As noted in both, the 'Balanced' setting is optimal. And that is what was being used throughout the video unless stated otherwise (i.e. when an alternative overdrive setting is specifically being shown). I clearly stated this was my preferred setting in the relevant section (45:38) and this is reaffirmed in the written review. Apologies if it wasn't clear this was being used again after that, but it certainly was. I suspect you're observing overshoot (which can appear 'shadowy' or 'inky') when using the 'Speed' setting. Because as noted in the review, that's the issue there.
      The conventional 'smeary' trailing from sluggish pixel responses is entirely separate and most certainly isn't eliminated just by sticking to the 'Balance' setting. Which, again, is being used in the video unless stated otherwise. I've also had confirmation from several users that this is the case, including on the RTX 30 series GPUs as well, that doesn't change the pixel response behaviour. If that isn't the case on your unit, I'm not sure why that would be the case. Perhaps Gigabyte changed something very recently, but it's more likely you're mixing up overshoot and 'smeary' trailing.

    Hello, very nice and detailed review! An hour and more wow...
    I would like to ask you some things:
    1. I compared Gigabyte G32QC with AOC CQ32G1 online and several sites show interesting results. It seems that the AOC has better picture but worse response time. Is this true and is the AOC better choice from that perspective? It is also cheaper where I am.
    2 .Also I see a lot of people talk about the so called "black smearing" or "ghosting", that is an issue of the most VA panels and I was wondering if this model has it in acceptable levels or not?
    I tried to look for that thing in the video and maybe I see something like that but It can be due to my current monitor so I don't know...
    3. In the range of 350-400 Euros is IPS the better choice than VA panels?
    I know that both VA and IPS panels have + and -, VA has double, some even triple the contrast of the IPS and also some models can show pretty good colors too but people say that the black smearing/ ghosting is unbearable and can even give you headache... On the other hand the IPS has that glow and it is not very good in darker rooms especially when watching a movie. Also the maximum of 1000:1 contrast ratio...
    So in the range of 350-400 Euros is IPS the better choice than VA panels and what can I look for?
    Thank you in advance!

    • @PCMonitors
      @PCMonitors  2 года назад +3

      1) Haven't used that AOC so can't really comment. But based on user feedback and the Gigabyte I tested I'd disagree the AOC has 'better picture quality'. That would depend on how the unit was calibrated, but the panel capabilities are very similar. Calibration of the G32QC as tested is covered extensively in the written review.
      2) I cover responsiveness in detail in the review, nothing to add. I'd recommend reading the relevant section of the written review as well - pcmonitors.info/reviews/gigabyte-g32qc/#Responsiveness. The pursuit photographs demsontrate 'smeary' trailing very clearly and it is subjectively explained with specific in-game examples.
      3) Entirely subjective. But my own recommendations for gaming - pcmonitors.info/recommendations/gaming-monitors/. The VA models simply aren't well-suited for high refresh rate gaming if you're sensitive to their weaknesses. Not everyone is, some 'tolerate' them better, but the difference in pixel responsiveness between the current VA and IPS options for your budget is dramatic.

      There are definitely weaknesses present but whether or not you'll notice them is another matter. And that's why I always stress that monitors are subjective - these 'issues' won't bother everyone. I'd recommend people do have a go with this model, unless they've used similar models before and had issues. If you find the slower than optimal pixel responses fine then there's plenty to enjoy about this monitor.

    Your usual good review. But why is everything coming out curved, just stop, it drives me nuts and is totally unnecessary. Ultrawides fine that makes sense but 27 - 32" is just plain stupid as is 1440p in 32". By the way you will always have issues with G-Sync compatible mode as it's just bad overall compared to a proper G-Sync certified monitor. I'm no reviewer but I've gone through enough panels recently to quickly realise that I need to stick with panels that have the actual G-Sync modules built in.
    I have a 4k 60hz 32" Acer G-Sync and have been looking for a higher refresh monitor to compliment it. I went through a DELL, ASUS, Samsung, LG etc trying to find something that I was happy with and although they all stated G-Sync compatible they all had various issues with it. In the end I purchased an LG 38GL950G. Not perfect but the best I could currently find that was actually good.

    • @PCMonitors
      @PCMonitors  3 года назад +2

      What GPU do you use, out of interest? It would also be helpful if you listed specific monitor models for reference and could be more specific about the issues you had. 'G-SYNC Compatible Mode' actually works well with RTX 20 series and RTX 30 series GPUs on some models, but not all. It offers a similar experience to FreeSync and doesn't have any specific additional issues you wouldn't also see with FreeSync on an AMD GPU. Overshoot at lower frame rates is par for the course in most cases but that's not specific to the Nvidia side as is a degree of flickering on VA models. The GTX 10 series GPUs have real issues like screen blanking, extra flickering, unexpected stuttering and suchlike on a wide range of screens.
      Many people are also perfectly happy with the pixel density of a ~32" 2560 x 1440 screen. It isn't particularly high or impressive, especially compared to a '4K' model. But it's similar to a 24" Full HD model and that's quite adequate for most users. Most people, likewise, find the curve perfectly natural albiet not an essential feature. It's found on many models with Samsung panels because that's the direction they've decided to take things. Unfortunately for those that dislike the curve, AUO have followed suit for their upcoming VA models - forum.pcmonitors.info/topic/new-au-optronics-auo-panels-for-2020-21/. IPS-type panels are only curved if they're UltraWide.

      The Samsung Odyssey G7 models and above are special and unique in the VA world, due to their pixel responsiveness. No model from Gigabyte (or anything aside from the Odyssey G7/G8/G9 series) replicates this. So given you're looking more at 'budget' models, the IPS models again make more sense. This thread covers some of the VA options, but if you do value strong pixel responsiveness they won't be what you're after - forum.pcmonitors.info/topic/dell-s3220dgf-gigabyte-g32qc-and-other-32-1440p-gaming-monitors/. Of course some of the VA models are still better than others - from what I've seen, the G32QC A (new version of model reviewed here) and M32QC are both 'decent' but still not up to the level of the Odysseys or IPS alternatives.

    • @PCMonitors
      @PCMonitors  3 года назад +1

      You're observing weaknesses in pixel responsiveness, as covered in the review. If you want to kill the main advantage of the monitor (contrast) and completely eliminate those 'high contrast' transitions that cause the issues by adjusting monitor settings, that is possible. But the monitor was set up appropriately without extreme and to most people entirely unattractive adjustments. The written review explores the calibration of the monitor. It also explains the 'Test Settings' used and why they were selected - pcmonitors.info/reviews/gigabyte-g32qc/#Calibration.

    Check out the tree leaves at 51-39 when you move around ust a bit. When static it looks fine, when moving it snaps into this whole different blurry shape. It is unbearable to play any game once you notice it. Yeah, I've got buyers remorse.

    • @PCMonitors
      @PCMonitors  3 года назад +1

      Yes, definite weaknesses there. And something I forgot to mention in the video is that the weaknesses don't always manifest as distinct trailing or added perceived blur, either. This is described in the written review (pcmonitors.info/reviews/gigabyte-g32qc/#Responsiveness): "It’s also worth noting that the weaknesses described here don’t always manifest as distinct trailing. Intricate mixtures of light and dark can exhibit a ‘flickering’ effect - certain areas of foliage with shadows between lighter-coloured grass or leaves, for example. The pixel response weaknesses mean that the shades blend together during movement and the overall object appears dimmer than it should. When the movement ceases, the object brightens up again."

The HP also has some dark smearing, but when it displays 1 frame it feels sharper and less blurry than the gigabyte. We can have big discussions on what panel would work for you, but if yoj go VA, only chose the new Samsung Oddesys g7 or g9. Those come with new VA technology which improves a lot on VA weaknesses. For now though, those g7 and g9 monitors arent cheap and have a very steep curvature. Good luck with your choice. I have sent my gigabyte back and will wait for new monitors.

      I've already addressed this in my comment to you on the LG 32GK850F video. 🙂 You've purchased the monitor according to your comment there as well, so I suggest you sit tight and stop worrying. You'll see for yourself soon enough, hopefully you find it more tolerable.

      You should really consider a 27" IPS model if you're looking for a similar price but far superior pixel responses. Stay clear of VA options - and that's all you'll get at this size, resolution, refresh rate and price.

    My LG 27GL850-B will allow me use 1440p @ 120HZ on my xbox series X but won't allow me to use FreeSync at the same time, it kicks me down to 60hz when I turn FreeSync on. Friend of mine has the G32QC monitor and he can play @ 1440p 120hz with its FreeSync PRO on with his series X flawlessly he says can you tell me if this may be true? If so im buying this monitor. thanks

    • @PCMonitors
      @PCMonitors  3 года назад +2

      The LG 27GL850 is a bit of an oddball in that it only goes up to 100Hz via HDMI with FreeSync active. So the Xbox Series X can't use 120Hz on it and sets itself to 60Hz. The G32QC supports up to 144Hz - including 120Hz for the Xbox Series X - via HDMI at the native resolution. This is covered in the review (end of this section pcmonitors.info/reviews/gigabyte-g32qc/#Features_and_aesthetics ) and as with most models FreeSync doesn't change that. Just had a similar conversation on the forum - forum.pcmonitors.info/topic/monitors-for-ps5-and-xbox-series-x/page/2/#post-61986.

      @@PCMonitors thank you for the reply one last question after reading the article you sent me the BENQ EX2780q do you prefer it over the G32QC. That is if I want 120hz 1440p with free sync as well via hdmi? This all I want with a decent response time.

    • @PCMonitors
      @PCMonitors  3 года назад

      It's a much more responsive monitor than this Gigabyte (and like the Gigabyte works at 120Hz no problem via HDMI, with FreeSync). Seems to fit what you're after better.

      I also got a series x and the g32qc and even though I set my Xbox to 1440p@120hz it always jumps to 4k@60hz when I start a game. That’s probably because of the down sampling but I’d prefer 1440p@120hz. Any tips on what I can do to resolve this ?

    I have terrible eyesight and am currently trying using a 40" 1080p TV as my monitor, because the text is larger, though I lose screen real estate and everything is a little pixelated, but I'm okay with that. My question is are there ways to make the text a lot bigger on this monitor? I really want to pull the trigger, just have doubts with my vision. Does anyone else here have bad vision and can help? Will lowering this monitor to 1080 help with that? Thank you so much.

    • @PCMonitors
      @PCMonitors  3 года назад +2

      You can use scaling in Windows to make text and other elements larger on the desktop. And yes, running it at the Full HD resolution is an option that would make text larger.

      It's normal, don't worry about it. The refresh rates are rounded and work as intended.

    Wish i had watched this before i got this monitor. I was going to send it back because i thought it was faulty. The responsiveness and smearing is this monitors downfall. Also if i watch a film with a night scene the dark looks like it's got digital camouflage dancing around and people faces look like google's deep dream is running on them. If i wanted to trip I would take some LSD. I have loaded osd side kick to control the monitor and update the firmware from my PC and i am now locked out of all the settings for the monitor apart from brightness.
