We got this movie and didn't even watch it one day I just randomly put it on, wow. I couldn't top watching it for like a week until I eventually got bored of it. The buildup between infinity & hey & just seeing them build their relationship up is what made this movie to me. Fight scenes were staggering. Animation was distinctive, but not in a way that makes it bad. It was still great . 10/10 movie
This would’ve been good if the names weren’t changed... What was the reason. I don’t think I can bear to watch it with names like “Norman” and “infinity” 😅
It's actually "Storm-End". They tried to directly translate the names to English (Wuxian translate to Infinity). I agree that it's off-putting and they should have just kept the Chinese names.
It’s good to see an English release of this film I really love, since more people can discover it and it would gather more fans around the world. I think it would have been better to keep the characters original names rather than translating their names though. It feels awkward to me, especially for Fengxi’s changed name (Norman/Normend ?). This kind of reminds me of character names change in English dubs of Japanese animations during the 2000s.
Agree with the comments here, they could have kept the original names. People who watch this are likely watching anime too; if they can learn how to pronounce Zenitsu, Ichigo and Sasuke they can surely pronounce Wuxian, Xiaohei and Fengxi.
Why... Why did they change their names? The Japanese dub was fine, it at least sounded similar for some. But, Infinity? Bamboo?? And what was Feng Xi supposed to be? Norman?? The voice acting wasn't bad at all but I don't think I could bear to watch the movie with their names like this :(
I think they were trying to keep the original meanings of the movie, like for example Wu Xian directly translates to "no limit" aka "infinity". As for Feng Xi, his name directly translates to "wind sigh/breath" so they probably changed cause there really isn't an English word that would be a good name for that 😂😅 (I'm Chinese so the direct translations are reliable I swear 😂)
@@CCCubeCandy I'm Chinese too, which is why it pains me to see their names like this xD I get that the translation for the names aren't wrong but it just sounds so weird... Well, Sky Tiger isn't bad I guess
After listening several times, I think Feng Xi's name probably became "Storm-end", which is fortunately better than Norman, and kinda makes sense if we let wind=storm and take the 止息/cease definition for xi. (Though I completely lost it at "bamboo")
I was very excited when the news came out of an English dub being released since this is one of my favorite films - it’s a bit sad to see that the names of such beloved characters were changed. I understand that localization is a thing, but I don’t see how literally translating their names is a good idea. Maybe in the Japanese dub it worked, but for the English language? It’s just awkward and doesn’t make any sense at all. Regardless, I’m very excited for the release of this and I can’t wait to share my love for this film and characters with others.
So. I have finally understood, why people dislike when names from other languages are directly translated. I heard, Hei calling out his friends names and audibly went "What the fuck???"
Just discovered this movie and I loved it! Watched it a second time with Chinese voices and Eng subs. The sub pacing was a bit strange in a couple of places, but it was great!
AAAAAHHHHH I LOVE THIS MOVIE SO SOOO MUCH! Good to see a dub. The dub itself seems good but ofc they just couldn't stop themselves from localizing their names huh
Just watched it. There’s so much I can say. I’m not much of an “anime” watcher as I’m more of the era of 90s anime, back when it mostly wasn’t for kids, and before it was called “anime”. But I thoroughly enjoyed watching this. It has so much atmosphere, and pulls from some of the greats like Akira and Spirited Away, but with a twists of action scenes that remind me of Naruto a bit. Many comments mention the animation quality, well of course it ain’t hard to tell the animation is good, but i feel there’s a lot more to be appreciated besides just that. Like the spiritual concepts laced throughout the dialog and even presented within the fight scenes, realistic enough to be taken seriously but abstract enough to allow you to use your imagination. It’s a nice balance, that’s all I’ll say for now but I could write a whole review. Ending made me sad a bit, I would have preferred it left off on a more fast paced note like showing them get ready to handle another mission or something but anyways great watch overall.
Thats me too and I completely agree. Blows dust off my year...1989. You? lol. Anime like Trigun, Akira, Castle in the Sky, Totoro were all like a year to years b4 me I think so all these great masterpieces were just waiting, and I agree, the culture of anime and use of the word itself has exploded in this era and nothing wrong with that but even in Hawaii were anime kind of took hold early ive never heard "anime" used much or at all in the 90s, it was just...watched lol ( The emergence of the holy grail of sharing/learning/faking information the internet came out and probably fast tracked the explosion lol). I didnt watch legend of Hei but I really want to after watching a short fight sequence on a train on youtube, I was really impressed and Im not much of an anime watcher either well, anymore. Ive sort of lost track of every new anime coming out and even where dragon ball went although I hear its popular.

“Anime” is just the Japanese word for animation, and we English speakers eventually adapted it. It was always called anime in Japan! 🇯🇵 “Even for women,” though, what? 😂
I agree with everyone else. I love a lot of anime, and very happy to see we have more of these movies and series here dubbed. Jus watched Noblesse, hopefully there's another season of that..But good grief keep the names the same when you dub them, thats part of the allure. Actually, the continuation of this movie is from the original Legend of Luo Xiaohei series, it started when Hei is having quests given from Wuxian/Infinity. You should definitely check it out, you'll be able to know more about Hei along with his friends, and his little black blobs called Heixiu :D
Yeeeesss I wanted my friends to watch this! Though I agree it kinda makes me cringe hearing the names different, but I don't think I'll mind too much, I just hope they have the option to change it to the original audio.
I really wanna see someone make a Wuxian and Wei Wuxian crossover 😌👌 Note: the "xian" in Wuxian means limit while the "xian" in Wei Wuxian means envy. BUT STILL-
The movie is beautifully animated but I was not only surprised but also shocked at the ending.
