@@sakibush But I think we can agree they did the best they could with the studio's resources. I would give it a try, I really want to be surprised. I like the concept enough to hope the script will compensate for technical short downs.
When people compare this with ghibli, I don't think they're actually saying "it's at the same level artistically and technically". I think it's more like "it feels similar to those aesthetics, concepts and scripts I loved from that other studio". People miss so much the old works from Ghibli that they want to expect something new but, at the same time, similar to those experiences.

I saw The Glassworker (English version) in the cinema today, and it was by far one of the best hand-animated films ever made. I was absolutely mesmerized by the animation style and the beautifully crafted scenery.
The story felt real and relatable, yet so imaginative and fantastical. I write many fiction/fantasy stories, so it inspired me too.
It also made me realize that if plain grains of sand by the beach can be used to craft something truly magnificent and stunning like glass sculptures, then any usual or simple thing can serve as an ingredient to something grand and monumental.

Pakistani depicting Western people in Anime from another world is kind of strange, its almost as if they are crying escapism. Even Japanese anime or Chinese anime still have hints of their culture in their storyline and characters. @@kaneidareyue7715 The idea of countries depicting their own people in movies has never strictly been true for Animated movies.
And this has been doubly true for Fantasy movies that are not based on or in any one specific culture.
Look at Disney's Animated movies. Pinocchio is based in Italy.
      Snow White in Germany.
Sleeping Beauty and Beauty and the Beast both in France.
      And Alladin in Middle East/Persia.
Despite the fact that all of these movies were made in USA and by USA.
This movie is not depicting western people because it's a Fantasy movie. Not based on a real country.
It's depiction seem Western because it's heavily inspired by Studio Ghibli films which also have western friendly depictions.
Also ofcourse this animated movie is the ultimate form of escapism. It's not meant to nor is it obligated to depict life in Pakistan.
It's not self hatred. Otherwise like I said you would have to agrue that movies like Alladin were results of Self Hatred for people over at Disney.
Avatar The Last Airbender was a result of Self Hatred for people over at Nick.
And Animes like Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and Attack on Titan which do not have a singular depiction of Japanese characters or Japanese Culture and are almost exclusively based in depiction of Germanic characters, Germanic culture and Germanic architecture are also a result of self hatred by the Japanese.
Lastly while the main characters are indeed western. The movie does indeed depict the common people to be very close to Pakistani's in their culture through depiction of traditional Pakistani clothing and Food.
It's in the trailer and has been confirmed otherwise.
One could argue that it's a fictionalized Fantastical depiction of the Colonial Era Pakistan/India when the Military Higher Ups still largely if not entirely comprised of Englishmen.

The creators of this animated film are more true Ghibli Studio successors than Studio Ponoc, in my opinion. I have yet to see any other animation studio that can recapture the feel of Miyazaki's most famous works. Can't wait to see any future works of Mano Animation Studios :)

@@suezcontours6653 why not ? I see that he takes a lot of visual inspiration from Hayao Miyazaki (studio Ghibli) who also loves using caucasian characters for this tale . I see other visual references like the 1990 "the nutcracker prince" cartoon . He seems to like the same type of universe and characters and there's nothing wrong with that , artists should not be limited or feel obligated by DEI "diversity" requirements.
and ps : pakistani people can have gree eyes or red hair so those charactes could also be pakistani , just compare with real stock footage of pakistani people with these traits .
