I remember when I was 10 I told my father I didn’t want to be a witness .he proceeded to show me the door ! And said if your not a witness your not living here and not part of the family .i was shocked .and that was the start of my deconversion took another 7 years to get out and another 30 years to fully deconvert.but still dealing with the way I was raised .the organisation is evil .
My heart goes out to you on that. I've just escaped from a cult and it wasn't anywhere near as bad as that. I didn't have to leave my parents or anything that bad. I only know how bad it was for me, so I can barely imagine what it was like for you.

How can parents do that? I'm a mum and could never do that. I used to go to my C of E church, and if they had tried to get me to be like that with any family member I'd tell them to shove it. I feel for you a lot. Any of you that have that experience. What I know of the Bible is, Jesus would never have accepted that treatment to his fellow men/women/children.
@@maeterith1984 - I could NEVER do it either!! It’s one of the main reasons we left. The organization makes members think it’s a LOVING thing to do. They are told it’s the ONLY way to get their loved ones to come back to the organization. They twist the scriptures & remove scriptures to make it sound like it’s the right thing to do. And if you’re born into it, you have no outside reference.. it’s all you’ve ever known!! The brainwashing & indoctrination runs very deep. I have 4 generations of family still in it up to their eyeballs! When I left, I lost them all!! Even so, it’s the best thing I ever did! Got my kids out in the Knick of time!!

Of course, to what extent is the "preaching" work being accomplished today? If anything, the Society has been scaling back the field service since the resumption of activity following the pandemic. And, since the annual meeting a few months ago, the Society has dispensed with the enforcement mechanism for the service-the reporting of hours-as far as the vast majority of publishers are concerned. It's the Society-not the "superior authorities"-effectively removing the "daily sacrifice" (or, "constant feature",NW). (Daniel 11:31) (The "daily sacrifice" or "constant feature" is, according to the Society's misinterpretation of Daniel chapter 11, a reference to the field service.) Against this backdrop, for Splane to issue that threat to the "superior authorities" smacks of rank hypocrisy on his own part.
They claim they are being persecuted, and they call themselves the government body, but what they really are is slave masters.
I hope Norway can see through WT's conniving ways. I hope they don't succumb to giving back the funding they desperately crave

Witnesses are eager to talk about their religion when they think they can convince you of their beliefs but refuse to discuss religion with anyone that disagrees. They want to have their cake and eat it too. Also the level of arrogance of warning people they will lose “complete trust in the governing body “ when allegedly it should be about trusting God and the Bible.

The Watchtower Society is just like the cartoon character Bullwinkle the moose trying to pull a rabbit out of a hat, but failing each time. In the same way, the Watchtower Society's Governing Body keeps trying to challenge the Norwegian government for more funding, but they fail each time. Ironically, they also fail to recognize that indiscriminate shunning creates a host of problems for families of ex-Jehovah's Witnesses and their children, thud violating the rights of their children. This is what the Norwegian government is trying to get the Watchtower Society to understand. Good grief, is the Watchtower Society's Governing Body that stupid?! Watchtower never specifies what is a lie or “half-truth”. They want you to think anything outside of what they tell you is a lie.

Just look up Jehovah's Witnesses congregation hall in Denmark in bird view, you will see what kind of ties JW's has. As someone who was born and raised in JW's til my 16th, I know God is not in that organization.
I will forever be grateful to JW method of studying the Bible. For the first time in my life I understood how the Bible all fits together, why the Old and New Testament are not in conflict, and how to cross reference for confirmation or further clarity. It was a true gift.
BUT, as a neuroclinical psychologist, the whole shunning thing is beyond cruel! It is not even a way to help people reform but instead drives them to anger, humiliation, hurt, bereavement, sorrow, and depression.
I left the studies long before I could be baptized, and I absolutely cannot support any organization that commits such sadistic psychological torture and isolation. That cannot be from God.

@@murph8411Absolutely! The members of the Governing Body use the same language to describe both newly anointed witnesses and those whom they describe as "apostates". At best, that smacks of arrogance on their part.
The Watchtower Witnesses argues that the law protects their Organisation's right to exist and to practice religious doctrines freely, but the law was written to protect an individual's right to religious freedom.
And people don’t practice the doctrines freely. They are under duress of punishment, shunning, losing family. JWs are not told about the rigidity of the religion and consequences of arguing a doctrine until AFTER Baptism. The canvassers are not honest and do not disclose everything about the Org as one is studying with them.
Of course, the Society tries to take what Mitt Romney said as official policy: "Corporations are people, my friend." Even the United States Supreme Court ruled as much in "Citizens United", in effect saying that corporations have more of a right to free speech than do actual people by virtue of buying and paying for it. Consequently, the Society will seek to extend this to the "free exercise of religion", saying something to the effect of the Society's right as a legal corporation to free worship far outweighs the right of actual individuals to freedom of religion or, more especially, freedom from religion. If the Norwegian high court denies the appeal, don't be surprised if the Society attempts to present such an argument before the European Court of Human Rights. It's a gross misinterpretation of the legal doctrines of freedom, to be sure, but, in all seriousness, when has the Society ever been accused of being accurate and honest in such matters?

This is the most distinguishing characteristic of cults and also authoritarian government: They change rules on the fly so easily, no apologies, leaving some ambiguity.
The consequences are HUGE for JWs to be disfellowshipped, or thrown out as I like to say because I call a spade a spade. Me, if I was disfellowshipped from my local church, nobody would stop talking to me, nobody would be told that I'm off limits socially and whatnot. A JW most certainly lose friends if they are excommunicated, and most likely they lose family, and possibly their jobs - their whole lives will be in ruins.
If I was disfellowshipped, there would be no consequences like that. JW is a cult, nothing more, and they have adapted their teaching, texts and everything to exercise control over the memebers. And they are conditioned to do the bidding of the watchtower tyrants to the extent that they don't know if they are lying or being dishonest even. They just repeat whatever the latest thing the watchtower came up with, as if it was an established truth for decades. I got a bit heated hehe and asked about why they are putting kids in front of a judicial commitee and they have to explain in details what they did with their boyfriend/girlfriend for example. Very degrading and dehumanizing process that's a clear violation the human rights that says every child has the right to privacy.
And the guy said - we don't do that. I was like ARE YOU SERIOUS?! Are you gonna stand here and just lie. Just because you made a last minute change to soften up the policies doesn't mean history is suddenly replaced and erased! The hippocracy in JWs that comes to my door is unbelievable. And the fact that they aren't even aware of it because of their conditioning - that's the REAL sad part, because there are no getting thru to them on any level.

I can see how the governing body would want to interpret the Constitution to include financial fairness... I can also see how the court still allowing them to practice their religion would rule against them.

What the government actually says is “ it’s the exclusionary (shunning) practices that the witnesses apply when someone leaves the faith community “ is the reason why there funding has been taken away…

I don’t get it when he says if you look at broadcasts it creates doubts. If you have true faith or belief no matter what you read or hear you will not believe it. Them trying to say not to listen to anything other than their propaganda is a tell tale sign of them covering something up.

About thirty years ago I noticed a distinct change in JW literature to dumbed down language, sing song speech and use of wheedling tonality as if the rank and file were mentally challenged children. I mentioned this to a JW friend who happened, like me, to be educated. She got very embarrassed and I could tell this bothered her too. But she’s a lifer and wouldn’t say anything against the org. I suspected back then that this infantile BS was a mind game designed to lull the membership into childlike dependence on the org as their “parent.” The org also started defining Watchtower as their “mother organization.”

Been in a few congregations in the 16 years I was in and did not find many who had any intellectual depth or attractive personalities and quite frankly they liked it that way! Most of us have seen the abrupt and ugly true nature of these people once they have an excuse to shun you. I’m now of the opinion that this cheesy religion for the most part, attracts the weak minded who need to be told what to do and don’t mind doing low rent things to others!

I copied this Wiki: The Streisand effect is an example of psychological reactance, wherein once people are aware that some information is being kept from them, they are significantly more motivated to acquire and spread it. Imo, WT is going to make this worse by appealing and appealing things. A normal organization might say something like, "We disagree with the Court's ruling. We will continue to pray on this matter and seek guidance from Jehovah." Something vague, a word salad that doesn't tell the followers what their next step is, and move on. Going through this appeal process may cause other countries in Europe, maybe England, Poland, and Sweden, to do the same thing as Norway.
