  • If you’ve spent time in Korea you’ve probably heard the term 빠른 년생 once or twice. What does it mean, and how can you use it? I’ll explain where it came from, what problems it caused, and what ultimately happened to it. We’ll also talk a little bit about the Korean age system.

You can also just say your birth year. I find that easier than remembering what my Korean age is. 86년생 ( I was born in 1986). In a group, I find Koreans will often do this.

Since I was born in the US but at February they held me, they hold people back if they are born in a late or early month (you probably know that), and at this moment I’m 13 and in 8th grade and turning 14 on February 6, but other older people in the class and me is supposed to be in 9th grade right now...... life sucks.

A good way to see this is how many of the 'years' you've experienced. Not 'year' as in 365 days, but as the number itself (1984, 1996, 2001), etc.

I was born in nov 1991. One of my friend was born in feb 1992. We were same class mate. nowdays, 빠른년생 does not apply to children born in 2003.

빠른 94년생인데 처음보는 93년생하고는 상호존대, 94년생이랑은 친구먹습니다. 다만 어릴때부터 알고지내는 친구들은 다 93년생!

I wonder if South Koreans mind would explode when they hear, for example, in the U.S. there are teenagers that take advanced courses in high school, and smart enough, allowing them to graduate high school and attend college/university at 16 years old.
