  • Do you know how to tell the difference between different types of soups or stews, such as 국, 탕, 찌개, and 전골? These might seem to be interchangeable, but there are big differences between them to make each unique.

    I didn't expect this lesson, kind of a fun break from the grammar! Do we need a Billy/Maangchi crossover? haha.

    THANK YOU!! I have been living in Korea for over a year now and this is the clearest explanation I've seen yet of the difference between these soupy food groups. Plus, I learned a new word (건더기)! Awesome video...

    This video was a really clear explanation of those Korean soup/stew words! Thanks for taking the time to figure it out and explain it. ☺️

    I always wondered why there are so many words for “soup”! Thanks for explaining this. Your videos are really helpful!

    I've actually been wondering about this, too, because I'm going through a soup/stew discovery phase! Oh, man it's good. Thanks for another informative video.

    random thought: if i wanna say i'm eating one of these, should i use 먹다 or 마시다?

    • @GoBillyKorean
      @GoBillyKorean  5 лет назад +1

      먹다 since you eat soup and not drink it. But you can drink the 국물 if you'd like with 마시다.

    Very interesting! Ive seen the different 'soups' and 'stews' in Kdramas, and this video explained the differences in clear terms! Thank you Billy!
    Another thing: there is a yogurt drink called 'tan' in Armenian that is just plain yogurt mixed with salt, so when you brought up 탕, i couldn't help but think of the drink. I wont forget what 탕 is, even though the drink and the 'stew' are different

      Plain yogurt and salt? It sounds... boring. How does it taste?

      Wow, i never thought of it that way :D i guess it is pretty plain, but personally love it, especially with certain foods. However, it's not a taste that everyone likes--my sister hates it

    찌개 usually use 뚝배기 to cook.
    전골 is basically using 전골 (전골냄비).

    so now 떡볶이 soup must be 전골 , am i right ?

    • @proonan29
      @proonan29 5 лет назад +2

      Well, let me think. As a Korean, I have never considered 떡볶이 as 전골. No Korean would do that. Most Korean think 떡볶이 as 볶음 which is fried rice cake and vegetable without oil even though 떡볶이 has quite a lot of soup in it.
