I got turned onto this game BECAUSE of Chuck Ragan. For those who are unaware, Chuck is one of the singers from 90s- punk band Hot Water Music, but his solo career is more like the stuff featured in the game. I'm glad Chuck works with independent artists in other media.
Been playing the game for some off 15 hours. Really REALLY fun! I recommend if you like indie games and if you like adventure / horror / Thriller games
Ah, I thought you'd enjoy it a bit more than what you experienced, Karak. Good review as always. You turned out to be one of my favorite reviewers, and this is coming from someone who visits gaming websites daily since the late 90's. Kudos!
Love this game. Like the ambient sound. The music is mostly up to personal taste and I like it. For me, using a game pad, getting the rudder upgrade and crafting lots of pouches switches this game into "easy" mode.
It would be great if you had a spot for old games that stood out for you. not sure how much others are interested for something like that, but I would love to hear your opinion. Great work so far.
I love the look of the main character. Then again, I've been a huge fan of Scott Sinclair are for many years. He did all the old Hot Water Music album art, and they have always been incredible.
I'm wondering if any of the crafting issues have been addressed since this video has been made. I bought this game in a Steam sale recently and intend to give it a cfrack soon.
Couldn't agree more about micro management. I love depth but not unnecessary tedium in menus. I wonder if they will patch the dying carry over too. This game still has my support though.
To my knowledge, Scott Sinclair worked on this game. that would explain the main character's visual design as he has illustrated many of the Hot Water Music releases in a very similar style.
+ACG Agreed. I quite like Sinclair's more traditional art, including the aforementioned Hot Water Music albums he has illustrated, but those are less cartoony and slightly more abstract. In this game it looks to blending his loose style with a more Burton-esque approach, and while interesting, it looks odd. However, from what I've also read he was responsible for the overall art direction of Bioshock Infinite, which I found to be outstanding. Also, if you like the music of this game (which I believe you did), you should check out Hot Water Music. This game was scored by Chuck Ragan, member of HWM.
I finished the campaign, but lasted 23 days on the on-going version until the game trolled me and made it rain non stop. I ended up having to choose to die of hypothermia or starvation, I ended up freezing to death.
Speaking of sale, it is now for "free" for twitch prime users, and its been a year so perhaps some touchups have been made to the game? One can hope everyone
I'm really enjoying the reviews. What I really appreciate is the review of smaller titles that I would usually miss out on otherwise. Most reviewers sick to the safe format of just covering the big AAA games. And then beating the same dead horse with 3 or 4 more videos instead of moving on to the next game
+Chris Harlin Sadly you will see me doing that as well as I have done in the past if I have the time. Reviews are costly for many of us and getting a lets play, or preview in and a couple videos on one game actually HELPS me cover the smaller ones. Just an FYI
It was free yesterday on humble bundle. I got it but haven't play it yet. Not sure if I will play. I don't have a lot of time (full-time working with family issues). Thank you for the review.
I think I'll give this one a chance, I loved the art style and it seems to play interestingly. Also, I'm one of those who loved the main character's design though, it's so strange.
Not a perfect game but it sets itself apart from other survival and roguelite games, which makes it worth a try. Despite its flaws it's still one of my favorite survival games.
In my region some games are cheaper than when the price is in US dollars. (As our money value is much less, I guess that's fair) So this game equals about 10 bucks in my region. Which means okay for me to take it ?
Just curious. How many hours a week do you game? You've reviewed som epic titles and I'm curious how you squeeze it all in and the great writing you do for this channel.
If you want a challenge, change the difficulty in campaign. I've put about 8 hours in so far and I'm loving it. I'm personally really enjoying it and I love the graphics, the soundtrack fits perfectly and the fear of imminent and inescapable death is always there... but in a fun way. Anyway, that's just my thoughts. Good review.
+Shaun Lacey Thanks See for me its not challenge I want. Its enjoyment and in a rogue-lite..connection. The gameplay just didn't fit the emotional connection that was lacking with the character or world. And the heavy handed reliance on all things procedural generated just felt noticeable. The reason I rated this a wait for a sale and not lower is for the reasons you describe because for some people this might work for them:) Its not a bad game, its just a bigger risk than usual for someone to find they enjoy it.
Yeah I can see that. I have found several locations that were exactly the same in a row which was distracting as well as a fair few bugs and the inventory shuffling can be a bit tiring. But I'm not experienced with the genre, so for me it's all shiny and new. That hypothermia though...
Came out on the Switch today for $15. I like games that are randomized every run, like binding of isaac and other rouge-likes, never really liked survival but guess ill try it out.
I've been following this game since couple other you tubers I didn't think it was completed yet. imo it just doesn't seem to be done yet its almost the same game that other youtubers was playing
Thanks for this review now that it’s out for switch I’m kinda curious about it! :D does look like a ton of menus.. not cool that part doesn’t pause the game! That is really what kinda scares me about if I’d enjoy it.
I dont agree with this review it may not be a complete master piece but i still think this game is worth the 15$ the music and art style really hooked me i looked at it a year ago and i didn't think much of it but then i saw it in the best sellers for Nintendo switch and thot at 15$ id be crazy not to buy it
ACG Fair enough. The writing is pretty solid which is why I very much enjoy these (even if every now and then I have to pause to catch my breath). The fact is I'm probably nitpicky because I tend to talk fast like this, too lol.
I second this comment. Normally your reviews are very thorough and I very much love them. I don't really bother watching any other after iv seen your review on a game. But this one just left my head in a spin. Otherwise, good work
Man this game looks beautiful and sounds amazing definitely looked like it was gonna be my cup of tea. To bad the gameplay doesn't seem that great. Thanks for saving my money!!
can you stop saying "heh, maybe subscribe"? its kinda annoying karak, you're a great reviewer and i'm sure people are going to subscribe to your channel after watching your videos
I have been watching your shows for awhile. But I feel that your review format should be more refined. As it is, it feels pretty outdated. You spent large portions of your reviews discussing about graphics and sound, two attributes that are already fairly consistent in quality across the board in modern video games. I only need to know about graphics and sound if the graphics and sound in a specific game are particularly outstanding or bad. The greatest identity of a video game isn't its graphic, nor its sound. It's what its gameplay entails, the hook of the game, the gist of the game. Consumers read / watch a review because they want to know what the game is about and how it peforms and doesn't perform to its hook. They don't tune in to hear you wax lyrical about how the game looks or sounds (although if the game is really THAT different from its peers, then you should) as if you're writing a poem. One big issue I had was with your Plants vs Zombies 2 review is that there's just a truly ridiculous amount of fluff in that review. You're not writing an essay here; keep your review clean and straightforward because I don't want to have to fast forward everytime. I say this not because I want to pick a bone with you for the sake of picking a bone. I say this because I actually enjoy your reviews (excluding all the ridiculous fluff. Seriously, we get it, you have a nice vocabulary, but just get on with it). Your videos are all of a high production value and it's genuinely nice to see a fellow video game enthusiast express his views. I hope you could refine your review format and keep it clean, so maybe, I won't have to fast forward so much. You'll be amazed at how many more subscribers you can get if you are more straightforward. Thanks for reading.
+Scribblyloh 123 Thats actually not a problem at all as I had already done this myself to see where a good spot was. I can't say I agree with you on this. I think Karak taking as much time as he does on the Sound and Graphics is extremely important. It's not like it eats into the time that he spends speaking on the gameplay itself. He is an extremely thorough reviewer, and what you see as fluff, many of us see as important information that most other reviewers completely gloss over. I'd rather have six paragraphs of in-depth analysis than 'sound was good'. Great review Karak.
So you're just playing with a controller.. i see.. I do not know what to do: it looks pretty and roguelite exploring is cool but maybe will be soon a humble bundle or some discount with it..
nice review as usual. a word of advice though. remember what you stated in this video? ruclips.net/video/W79e_Vc8liY/видео.html don't change your ways even if you lose money sometimes like you did with fc primal because you will lose credibility and trust. just helping out.

Ya I hear that
Mikey McDowell holy shit I had no clue chuck Ragan was involved in a video game. This is currently on game pass so I'll probably install it soon.
Got this game for 6 bucks on switch. Totally worth it
I am the only one that thought the main character design looked pretty good?
I kinda like it too
His harping on "how bad the main character looked" seems really petty. Her style fit the game, I liked it.
Kinda reminds me of Nightmare before Christmas or Coraline
Been playing the game for some off 15 hours. Really REALLY fun! I recommend if you like indie games and if you like adventure / horror / Thriller games
This guy sounds like Dwight Schrute
Still on the fence and it’s $5.99 right now on Switch.....I hate hard to figure out item systems. Excellent and informative as usual. Thanks
This is how the dog saves his inventory whenever you die:when you die the dog survives and goes on to a different person
The complete edition of this game right now on psn is on sale for $5.25 I believe
+1RacerXer Ya I can see that change making it much easier. I felt it was but not as much as "easymode"
"Daughter Quasimodo, the Unkillable" lmfao
I think the character would fit better in a more tim burtonesque looking world, whereas the world itself looks more like a telltale game.
+tigresuave11 ya there is a separation of appearances there for sure
It would be great if you had a spot for old games that stood out for you. not sure how much others are interested for something like that, but I would love to hear your opinion. Great work so far.
I love the look of the main character. Then again, I've been a huge fan of Scott Sinclair are for many years. He did all the old Hot Water Music album art, and they have always been incredible.
Weird, I like how the MC looks a lot
I'm wondering if any of the crafting issues have been addressed since this video has been made. I bought this game in a Steam sale recently and intend to give it a cfrack soon.
So is their no fighting or anything? All I've seen is exploring and gathering supplies and making stuff.
Couldn't agree more about micro management. I love depth but not unnecessary tedium in menus. I wonder if they will patch the dying carry over too. This game still has my support though.
+wolfflow not sure but its an insane amoun
The carry over depends on your difficulty and which setting you choose. You can turn it off in the options menu.
Another solid review but the game's not my thing and that little girl is gonna haunt me in my nightmares, holy shit, she's creepy as hell!
+Crimson-Tone I admit to saying "WTF" the first time I saw her. Like i said in the review Scalpel nuke
ACG Hahahahaha amen to that man, I wouldn't have said it better.
+Crimson-Tone I got a Picasso vibe from her facial design
To my knowledge, Scott Sinclair worked on this game. that would explain the main character's visual design as he has illustrated many of the Hot Water Music releases in a very similar style.

Nice Thundercats reference. :D
games amazing..so worth buying at any time!
so far i made it to day 42 on endless mode..oh gosh
matt rod buying it hope I like it
What's endless mode?
@@ballesterosag ...... you're joking?
How is this game compared to Don’t Starve ??? I have this game but I don’t seem to like it. So now I’m thinking of getting the game Don’t Starve.
Speaking of sale, it is now for "free" for twitch prime users, and its been a year so perhaps some touchups have been made to the game? One can hope everyone

love the music! Need to get my hands on the soundtrack!
+LordOfNomNom ya the soundtrack is pretty gawd damned good
I remember seeing this game when they first announced it. Not my thing but it is interesting.

as many as needed
Is this game worth it on Switch?
Nathan Drake it's the same version. What ever he said in this review applies to the Switch version
It's ugly.
Crashes won't be as common infected might not even happen but instead of crashing it might slow down or lag a little bit
Pretty sure the dog is time lord. Great review. I think I might wait for a sale. That's some weird gameplay designs though.
Funny I searched for you and a new video! Awesome man.
+ItsJustMax thanks
Came back here since I've seen the trailer on the PSN store.
Another stellar review Karak!
+Screenburn TV appreciate it

NiZZULiVΞ most likely

Did you review Street fighter v?
+Omnitrix8 He's probably going to wait until its finished.
Today it's free in Humble bundle.
Great video as always, my friend.
Thanks for the review. Twas probably not a good idea to narrate the review over the heavy rock track for quite a long stretch.
+Bod Notbod lol what?
I just bought this game for a buck on humble bundle.Im gonna check it out :)
Figured I'd stop on by since this is a free game if you have a twitch prime account for the month 11/17 fyi
Another great review!
+Camodo Gaming thanks
I already bought the game & should have waited or perhaps just skipped it.
$14.99 on PS4 and $19.99 on x box. But maybe I might get it on a sale or something.
Good lord that face. Kind of reminds me of don't starve though.
+Dragonk116 Its gnarly lol
Ikr 🤔
Thanks for this review now that it’s out for switch I’m kinda curious about it! :D does look like a ton of menus.. not cool that part doesn’t pause the game! That is really what kinda scares me about if I’d enjoy it.
Thanks, just saved me some money with your review :)
yep
It's actually very fun and you always feel lost. I still play it cause it's a new experience every play. Worth the 15 bucks it is now
You shouldn’t have passed on it bro
free on humble bundle right now xd
Its trash
Thanks for saving me some coins my good sir
I like the look of the water, not very real but Lina cool looking, I'm also watching this on an iPhone so it could look like crap for all I know....
Seems like survival games with crafting pay off, since there's new one every week.
The game has an interesting concept, but with the style of a classic indie game it does not look that appealing imo.
what the fuck does that even mean
IlIl Teratoma The concept is cool, but the game is not fun. Im no big fan of indie games either.
+RePaperBag Ya I don't hold them up like Simba in the Lion King either. Especially when so many AAA devs are going indie and vice versa now
I dont agree with this review it may not be a complete master piece but i still think this game is worth the 15$ the music and art style really hooked me i looked at it a year ago and i didn't think much of it but then i saw it in the best sellers for Nintendo switch and thot at 15$ id be crazy not to buy it
Free right now on humble bundle
I got this game for free because of Twitch Prime. I like it, it's pretty fun.
I was really looking forward to this..twenty dollars might be to steep for me.
Reminds me of a overhead tablet version of Fallout.
You had me dying talking about her face 😂😂😂
first, i had to say it. Nice video as always
+THUMBASS _ thanks
i like how you dont give a game a 10/10 or something, but that you kind of made your own rating system
Great review though you need to slow down your narration. You were making me feel out of breath lol.
+Zidders Roofurry that is very slow for me. And slower always results in less watchers and overall interest actually. Oddly enough lol
ACG Fair enough. The writing is pretty solid which is why I very much enjoy these (even if every now and then I have to pause to catch my breath). The fact is I'm probably nitpicky because I tend to talk fast like this, too lol.

Let the man do his thing. Doesn't bother me, and apparently doesn't bother 200 thousand other people.
+WolfTread with that logic it bothers the other 7 billion people on earth
I actually look forward to it and do it along with him. It's like knowing the lyrics to a song at a concert.
Great work K-Skillz.
im from the future aka summer steam sale 2017
I have been watching your shows for awhile. But I feel that your review format should be more refined. As it is, it feels pretty outdated. You spent large portions of your reviews discussing about graphics and sound, two attributes that are already fairly consistent in quality across the board in modern video games. I only need to know about graphics and sound if the graphics and sound in a specific game are particularly outstanding or bad. The greatest identity of a video game isn't its graphic, nor its sound.
+Scribblyloh 123 Thats actually not a problem at all as I had already done this myself to see where a good spot was. I also thought that having the cats in different places would work like you said and those are good suggestions. Many of the suggestions you make were already tried prior from time to time and always resulted in a much larger viewer and watch drop off. Karaaaaakkkkkkk !!!
+Petre Daniel sup
+ACG Watching your cool reviews (even if they're on console) and wondering if this game has enough content to justify the price..
+Petre Daniel this is a pc game by the way and for me. It would be best a bit cheaper. For this game in particular
So you're just playing with a controller.. i see.. I do not know what to do: it looks pretty and roguelite exploring is cool but maybe will be soon a humble bundle or some discount with it..
+Petre Daniel Correct.
You made me NOT want to buy it. Thanks.
nice review as usual. a word of advice though. remember what you stated in this video? ruclips.net/video/W79e_Vc8liY/видео.html don't change your ways even if you lose money sometimes like you did with fc primal because you will lose credibility and trust. just helping out.
+Marc Tucker whats this got to do with my review?
+Yung Hollow lol probably haha
Garbage ass game. Avoid like a flood or a fire.
It's a very minor detail in the overall game, but the fact that somebody on the dev team dug up that outdated Roosevelt quote about wolves, and decided it would be a great thing to put in their game has put me off buying this game entirely after watching this review.
Is this an exlusive?
+andronikos nik Not sure. PC, my review. But looks like XBOX maybe and Mac at some point
+ACG Ok thanks!
+ACG its xbox and PC Mac later no ps4
BIAS! AGAIN!
