Lots of the dislikes are in the Trophy that’s a trim decision not a failing of the car. This car is only cheap in the bottom trim after that it’s not cheap. Lots for money but not cheap.
I went from a company skoda octaves with adaptive cruise to a berlingo van (no car tax,so a decent pay rise😀,as the kids have fled the nest and we have a fiesta on the drive) which has normal cruise. While I missed the adaptive cruise,the most important thing in my mind is finding a cruise control that doesn't disengage every time you change gear (the berlingo doesnt) this makes regular cruise so much nicer to use, and only miss the " set the distance to the car infront" capability of adaptive cruise.
I fully agree with your dislikes had mine 2 weeks now same model as yours I agree with every dislike.but overall I am loving the car great smooth drive
Never understand why the cars software resets your settings. Even our ID.3 used to do this. But they did solve this issue with an update. Hopefully MG can do the same.
Good that you still like it. If I were in the market for something like that there's no way I could justify paying the price of the opposition from VW, Renault etc.
Great video. I also don't like the fact there's no light at the back sests. When it's dark kids are struggling to put the seatbelts. Also I wish the android auto was wireless and yes I agree on the rear wiper and no reversing camera 📷
Thanks for the review. I'm really impressed about standard mg4 is regarding its lifepo4 batteries with thousands of charge cycles. The mg4 LR has other batteries chemistry (NMC) with less life time span. Greetings from Spain .

A small note, the SR should have 170hp while the LR 200hp, but being heavier it's slightly slower 0-60. Some suggestion for future topics: - An update on range prediction? is it still accurate as in your previous video or has it dropped? In other words, is it reliable? :) - Any presence of oil leakage (some people are reporting this issue after 500-1000 miles but should be easily fixable)? - What are the settings available for the star buttons on the SR? - How's audio quality in the back (there should be just 4 speakers)? I'm only 5 as well, tested the MG4 last week (and placed an order). Found it was perfect for my size. Really fun to drive, yes the seating position is very high, so you have a real good view on the streets. Good luck, getting the keys with this one :) Edit: I wanted heated seats and highest range, so I'll have 360 camera.
The only thing I dont get with this car is why the trophy version doesnt offer front sensors when it even has a 360 camera. Also, it really wouldnt have been expensive for them to implement wireless car play / android auto functionality
Thanks for the video, I had a test drive in the Trophy model, last week and was so impressed with it , I ordered one, due late January. As with some of the other cornets I would like updates on reliability and particularly the reported oil leak issues and future software updates.
Excellent review & very honest ownership likes & dislikes..in my opinion & it is just my opinion the + outweigh the - & like you say it's relatively just 'knit picking' all in all it's a game changer for those wanting an ev (personally I don't) the price will ruffle the feathers of those manufacturers milking the ev craze & charging silly money like £30k upwards..crazy money 💰..all in all well done on another excellent vlog 👌

@@revmatchers I think it might just be in the Trophy version. Maybe if enough owners get in touch with MG Motor UK, they’ll release a software update allowing the car to remember settings.
I feel like some of the software should be able to get fixed over time, like the losing presets when you leave the car. If we leave MG some message about it, perhaps sweet talk them a little about what a good car they've made, I think that could get changed in a software update.
Very clear and nicely presented video. I have the Trophy model and it’s fantastic. But I’m very disappointed that the Eco mode preset cannot be retained. Before driving off every time I have to choose this mode as it is not safe to access the screen whilst driving as it is not not particularly touch sensitive. I hope that MG can correct this silly oversight.

I have had this car for a couple of weeks now also same trim and colour!! I have seen you guys driving in the Wynyard area quite often as i drive from Middlesbrough to Spennymoor daily. I dislike rain water dripping in when opening the door after wet weather, I agree with you on the lack of the front sensors, Im hoping a future software update can add this using the front radar sensors, Coming from a car with rear cam i miss that on this model but i suppose you cant have it all at this print point for an EV!
What's the max charging speed you have reached? 10 to 100% charging time at a fast charger?? I'm really interested in this version but not a lot of people have reported on this. Thanks in advance.
When I tried one I was impressed with drive but I do have a few questions. How are you getting on with the lack of rear wiper, or don't you drive on muddy rural roads? Have you noticed any oil coming from the div? Are you not concerned about the the lack of centre head restraint? Which for me makes it only a 4 seater, unless whiplash isn't important any more?
So you have to plug in the phone for Apple Car play...and I assume Android? So no Blue Tooth phone connection then? And what?...no reverse camera??? Though it seems a great car, especially for the money...I still think it looks like an old 2010 Mazda 3 🤔.
Bit mean picking things that are available on a different spec model, it would be like saying you don't like an MX5 because it's only got two seats and you're a family of six!

Sorry to fact check you but it's not about £25,000 - it's about £26,000 (£25,995 to be exact) and it isn't around 200hp - it has 168hp (the long range is 201hp)

As I've commented in other reviews of this car, I do hope SAIC/MG owner company comes up with firmware upgrades to fix or upgrade the car further. I miss "camp mode" as an option.
In my opinion it's one of the best looking cars I've seen. Wish I could afford one. But we are seriously looking at selling our car and going for the MG4.
Go for it it’s an absolute gem. If this was titled Tesla everyone would have gone gaga over it. This car gives you everything that a Ming more expensive car would. Is just that it’s called MG and in my book it’s “my god!” This is amazing
I agree about the lack of a rear wiper. Water may eventually fall off the rear screen (with some speed & use of the rear screen heater) but the dirt won't. I also think the omission of heated seats & steering wheel on the lower spec models is a big mistake. I think the interior is a bit dark, there's no rear seat lighting, I think there's only one rear USB, as Jonny Smith of the Late Brake Show pointed out, there's no "oh shit" grab handles in the front or the back. That said the price is this car's USP. Not so much for the most expensive Trophy model ,& it is a shame that there are no pick & mix options on the lower spec models. I guess that's the price you pay for having a lower entry price point. That said I will be looking at this car when the time comes to change our 2nd car.
Big thing we didn’t like and was the reason we didn’t get one, no height adjuster on the passenger seat. My wife is tall and she felt she sat to high and couldn’t get comfortable and this stopped us buying the car
@@SomindraKannangara Yes, ‘Greasy 5th wheel’ is correct. I paid a deposit for the MG4 and cancelled the order due to the oil leak. The dealer gave me my deposit back and then told me the demonstrator has the oil leak issue too! The MG4 forums are full of people that have an oil leak issue. Hope they can sort the problem as the car was great to drive at a fair price.
Only seen one review that honestly wants to touch on the cars weaknesses. EVM...!! In a nutshell MG's biggest competition is... MG! Both the MG5 and ZS offer better quality of finish for similar money. OK.... Looks are subjective... But a quality interior, with space and good seats is not. I have been fighting with MG to get my "refundable" deposit back for over a month and all I keep getting is excuses....
What annoys me the most is the heavy use of glossy plastic-surfaces, where you can see every fingerprint on, that dazzles in sunlight and where you will see tons of scratches on very soon. No heated seats in an electric-car also is a no-go for me. And what makes me really ANGRY is the fact that MG castrated the software for the standard edition (standard battery): In other editions you can assign the left star-button on the wheel to access the recuperation-levels (which is more than useful since there is no dedicated hardware-button for this!), but on the SE (standard battery) you can't!

And therefore, yes, it makes me angry if something is REMOVED IN SOFTWARE that already is there / can be used in the other editions, and that is just needed because (unlike in other cars), there is no dedicated hardware-button to change the recuperation-mode! You reach the top of a mountain, now the road is downwards, and while driving, you have to navigate several steps on a TOUCH-SCREEN in order to change a setting that is very important for driving. Something like this should to be one push of a button only.
No one is forcing you to buy this car. Buy one with hardware regen if you feel that strongly about it. Kia Niro has this feature. I’d like the feature too but companies segment products all time using software and hardware. Vote with your money and buy another brand. The feature never existed on base models, it’s not like you bought the car and they took it away.

Nice video, many thanks. Almost a month with mine now (SE LR) and I agree that the lack of customisable presets IS annoying, but not really a deal breaker for the price and hopefully this will be sorted with a software upgrade (not sure whether this is just wishful thinking though). The lack of a wiper at the back hasn't bothered me too much (but then not been through a winter yet) but for me the lack of front sensors IS an issue as I'm struggling to judge the front of the car at the moment and that angular design doesn't look like it is going to respond well to knocks or scrapes. Had these on my previous car and not realised how much I had become reliant on them when getting into and out of parking spaces. I'm even considering getting a quote for having ultrasonic sensors retrofitted. Not sure if MG could do this (and even incorporate into car software) or whether it would be a third party stand alone system.
Having had the ZS for 3 years don't hold your breath for getting a software update to retain mode settings since this has been something owners of the ZS were asking for back in 2019/20 and since that time the MG 5 SR and LR versions have launched as has the Facelift ZS all of which revert to Normal Mode and KERS 3 at startup. However, I'm sure it was said when the MG4 was announced that Drive Modes would be retained for the next trip. This is more of an issue with the latest MGs since you have to go into the central touch screen each time to change the Mode setting on the MG4 unlike earlier MG EVs and even the just announced MG5 Facelift that have dedicated Mode and KERS switches
I could see bad point #6 in the video…boy does it need better lighting in the cabin. Oh well still not a deal breaker compared to all the good stuff. Bad point #7 you can’t put roof racks on it. Good point #6 your standard range 51kWh battery pack is LFP so you can charge it to 100% while degradation and lifespan is much better than the long range.
@@barrycollyer195 I wouldn’t say loads, but there are a few. Not sure if it’s overfill or a faulty breather or a bit of both. Anyway, MG are aware of the issue and are in touch with dealers.
A few gripes, could have been sorted by getting the trophy. ( as mentioned) but then the price goes up to £31K. Keep the vids coming.👍🙌

I’ve not had a car without adaptive cruise for a while now. It’s one of the most important features on my list now when I buy a new car.

Yeah it's quite annoying but we have found that to be the cheapest in lots of cars for whatever reason.
To be fair the only setting that defaults is driving mode, everything else remains.

I really like the MG4, but don't think I should have to buy a long range Trophy version to get heated seats.

Car2Play gives wireless car pay. Add the right ‘rubberish’ wireless charging pad that stops iphone from moving around really improved out MG ZSEV.

You can set the star Button on the left steering wheel side to choose the deiving mode

If it doesn't, then have front parking sensors fitted. It doesn't cost a fortune. Search Dolphin parking sensors.......

Lea so Right star button can be used but Left on standard SR can not strange that I guess what people want is the Trophy edition in SR LFP battery

Nice video, many thanks. Almost a month with mine now (SE LR) and I agree that the lack of customisable presets IS annoying, but not really a deal breaker for the price and hopefully this will be sorted with a software upgrade (not sure whether this is just wishful thinking though). The lack of a wiper at the back hasn't bothered me too much (but then not been through a winter yet) but for me the lack of front sensors IS an issue as I'm struggling to judge the front of the car at the moment and that angular design doesn't look like it is going to respond well to knocks or scrapes. Had these on my previous car and not realised how much I had become reliant on them when getting into and out of parking spaces. I'm even considering getting a quote for having ultrasonic sensors retrofitted. Not sure if MG could do this (and even incorporate into car software) or whether it would be a third party stand alone system.
Having had the ZS for 3 years don't hold your breath for getting a software update to retain mode settings since this has been something owners of the ZS were asking for back in 2019/20 and since that time the MG 5 SR and LR versions have launched as has the Facelift ZS all of which revert to Normal Mode and KERS 3 at startup. However, I'm sure it was said when the MG4 was announced that Drive Modes would be retained for the next trip. This is more of an issue with the latest MGs since you have to go into the central touch screen each time to change the Mode setting on the MG4 unlike earlier MG EVs and even the just announced MG5 Facelift that have dedicated Mode and KERS switches
I could see bad point #6 in the video…boy does it need better lighting in the cabin. Oh well still not a deal breaker compared to all the good stuff. Bad point #7 you can’t put roof racks on it.
Good point #6 your standard range 51kWh battery pack is LFP so you can charge it to 100% while degradation and lifespan is much better than the long range.
Firstly this car has no heat pump, secondly the MG MARVEL R has better range and better looking !!!

@@barrycollyer195 I wouldn’t say loads, but there are a few. Not sure if it’s overfill or a faulty breather or a bit of both. Anyway, MG are aware of the issue and are in touch with dealers.
