      If I had spent even half that on a new car and it had quality control issues, I'd be far from impressed. I don't call 25k cheap. I wouldn't waste my money. Cars in my opinion are just stressful money pits.

    Thanks for sharing your story. I have got the standard range car, it was the second batch delivered to me in December and I have had non of the car issues that you have had BUT. The dealership experience when collecting the car was really poor. I ordered several things when buying the car one of which was tinted rear glass, the car had no tinted glass. I had given the dealership 5 days to prep the car and nothing had been done to put in the extras for my collection. I'd asked for the seat treatment and was only given the pack and window label when I queried it on a follow up visit. I was assured that the treatment had been done but am sceptical. It took two visits to get a refund on the tinted glass I'd payed for in the order. Luckily my car was in the second batch , I took delivery in December last year. I have had none of the problems you have had and am loathed to take it back to the dealership for any work/updates. I bought the car on PCP so am with it good or bad for four years. So far the car has been great but the dealership performance and the "7 year warranty" do worry me.

    My experience with my local dealer was very different. There was a loud wind noise issue with the drivers door window and my dealer dealt with it well. After a couple of visits to them to have it fixed to no avail they took it in for a week and as a last resort changed the door for a new one. Problem solved. It took four months because of delays getting parts from China and delays getting MG's approval, but the car is good now thanks to my dealers persistence. Ive previously had poor customer care from VW and Skoda dealers driving me to change cars, but after your experience I'm crossing my fingers nothing goes wrong with my MG4 anytime soon.

    Very sorry to hear about the faults. I got my MG4 SE long range, and it's been perfect for the 3 weeks I've had it. This may be due to it being a later example (production date), so none of the issues mentioned here or on the forums (touch wood). The only concern is that MG has scored poorly in regards to warranty n aftersale support vs. the likes of Kia.

    Thanks for doing this video, nothing but good reviews on RUclips. I got my MG4 in November and it does drive me crazy sometimes. Its triggered the emergency brake for no reason 3 times and when I turn the setting off it turns itself back on. The lane assist keeps steering me into other cars and again, this setting keeps turning back on too. The app doesn’t always connect to the car either so can’t always pre-heat it. I’ve also got the wind noise issue on the driver side to sort out, my dealer always seems very busy so I know this will take a while to resolve. I always get auto-hold errors on the dash too which just go away. Luckily they sorted the oil issue before I got the car but that did cause a delay in when I got to pick it up. Great car but it’s not the perfect car everyone makes it out to be!!

    • @Letstalkelectric
      @Letstalkelectric  Год назад

      Completely agree with you.. I had exactly those issues plus a few major ones. App connection was a real pain in the neck. It would even log me off completely randomly. The main issue is that the dealers dont seem to even register these issues as issues. As I said these are great value cars as far as you dont have to deal with the dealer/service teams. Good luck with yours and I hope you keep enjoying your car 👍👍

    If your 7 year guarantee means they'll top up the oil every 5 visits whilst saying it's bone dry, it's worth less than the paper it's printed on. Imagine you had an immediate threat to your safety (although an oil leak in the wrong place can fry your car), you'd be out of a car for half a year just waiting for the appointment.
    Doesn't matter how cheap it is, with that level of service it's a very expensive brick.

    Good review but not suprising. MG had a massive exodus of staff from aftersales a couple of years ago and tbh their approach as a company has always been one of shift the cars then forget about it. The company has not invested in afteersales and use 3rd party companies with unskilled staff to cover phones so you never feel like you're getting anywhere when dealing with them. Spent many years working for MG and the feedback from customers was always how poor the dealer network is and how poor support from MG is.

    At last, someone who's honest about the build quality and support of these PRC cars. It's my opinion that Chinese motorbikes, scooters and cars etc have great showroom appeal. They can look all glitzy in the showroom and are often festooned with gadgets but look deeper and you find they are not as well made as you might like. As an example, I went to view a 125cc scooter close to me. It was under 2 years and had been garaged from new with under 1,000 miles on the clock. It looked great, that was until you looked underneath. There was rust everywhere, paint was peeling off of the crankcase, the brake callipers looked tired as did most of the pipework, it looked more like a 30k mile 5 year old bike. The guy offered it to me at a greatly reduced price but I walked away and bought a Honda. I think your experience is exactly what I would expect from a cheap Chinese car. As the saying goes, buy cheap, buy twice.

      Never heard that expression before but I will use it in the future. Here's the thing. I have had many a new car in my time, Audi's, VW's, Mazda's and Vauxhalls. In the main they have all been great but these days I am not turned on by the latest & greatest. Of the 5 cars at our home the oldest is 35 years and the youngest 16. They are all immaculate and driving perfectly plus I love the shape of older cars. These are cars I really want to own, cars which passed me by first time around... They lost their depreciation long ago but surprise, surprise, people seem to think we are living the life. Strangely, I like the new Volvo XC30, that was until I found out it's made in China.. so that's a non starter. China & Volvo should never appear in the same sentence.

    I had the exact same UK experience/faults, bought mine in the November and sold it in July, lost confidence in the car, the dealer and the brand. The car obviously wasn't tested properly prior to launch, maybe things have improved but early buyers paid a dear price for this. I live in a rural area and and lane assist was one of the worst things about it, it defaults to on every time you start the car, if you forget to turn it off before driving it reminds you it's on by trying to violently drive you into the nearest hedge. Things may be different now but during my ownership the dealer informed me this could not be changed. Like yourself i lost a lot of money but it came to the point that my wife and i had lost complete confidence in the car.

There's a guy on RUclips who works for a company who run several MG5's, one of which has clocked up 70k miles in 18 months, with hardly any trouble at all. The experiences with the other MG5's the company have, also seem positive. This may be down to the fact that in some Asian markets, the MG5 is still ICE powered, and most of the car is known and proven. The MG4 is 100% new from the ground up. And, as the old adage goes, pioneers sometimes ended up with arrows in their ass.......It's unfortunate you had such an awful experience. It really shouldn't happen today.

Range (140 miles full charge) is not an issue for my journeys. I only use a 7kw home charger (4 /5 hours to charge). I get 5 miles per KWH so not bad. Quality is fair to good, fun to drive. It's a very agreeable little town car. Dogs (3), golf clubs etc. fit when rear seats drop. I bought an i30 green a dealer super excellent service on everything.
    Then the dealership got sold to a different company.
    First year, of the new ownership had to go in 4 times to get the warranty extended for the next year.
    As Hyundai had 7 now 5 years of warranty but the car has to be serviced at the same dealership to be extended for a year.
    Then getting the service done the next 3 times had problems, with getting it extended or with things done to the car.
    Also take the car then 3 days later a headlight or tail light has burnt out.
    So took it back to get fixed, then ended up doing it myself.
    The last change of lights the tail light look all burned out so I wonder if the guys they change the lights to a bad blub all the time to get extra work.
    Then i find it that at least 1 guy has gotten sacked because of a lot of problems as he didn't want or like working for Hyundai, the car brand had also changed, as GM closed down Holden.
    There's stuff online about this employee causing lots of problems for owners.

In short I just wanted to share the positive things about the MG4, so I had just made it private (as youtube algorithms dont like if any video is deleted). I was being asked on facebook/instagram and MG forum so many times for the reasons why I sold my car and requested that I should share my thoughts and experiences as this could help people in making an informed decision. That was the reason I had decided to bring the video back.

The 'Autopilot', as the cruise control system is known as is pretty much useless in my eyes due to the lack of a radar (my car was built with the radar but had it disabled in an over the air update as per Elon's request). It suffers with phantom braking but more irritatingly, when using cruise control in an average speed camera area on a night time for instance, the wipers go mad trying to clear something the car thinks is on the windscreen that isn't there. The wipers aren't very good either, again due to the use of a camera to decide when they switch on. I've recently sold my MG, it was the ZS EV to be fair and in the main I quite liked it aside from two key facts, 1. I lost 50% of its new value in just 12 months, 2. the dealer/service centre experience is poor. The guys there were friendly mostly however every time I would go there (and I had to go there more times than I was expecting), I always felt like i'd arrived at some crappy one man garage and they were always telling me how crap the cars were (not great to hear from the dealers service centre) and also trying to get any repeated issues fixed by MG was a nightmare. This is because they then have to prove to MG that the original fix didn't work, but because they carried out the fix they clearly didn't really want to admit that. I had to have the door locks fixed as none of them worked properly, and the steering rack was replaced but when it went wrong again they would accept that the fault had returned. I got so fed up with going through this I decided to sell it, it was then I discovered how much value it had lost. I simply couldn't face continuing the experience so I sold it and brought an older car for the same value as I got for it. Im now back with a car from a main brand and whilst I know there can always be poor experiences, ive never had one as unsatisfying as what I have experienced with MG.

It had the lubricant leak issue, which they fixed promptly. I have received several updates over 2023/24 where things have just gradually become even more refined.. They are still getting on their feet I think here in Australia. Quite a few owners wish that BYD had there own tesla style online ordering and their own service centres, we have to go through a traditional ICE style dealership who want to have regular yearly servicing. Owners don't seem to be having issues like oil leaks etc in the MG4. The biggest bone of contention with the Atto 3 is when it was initially offered up online for orders it was advertised with a KIA style 7 year warranty. After a lot of people rushed in and ordered, the warranty was changed - watered down. The car itself is great, there have been several updates and it is slowly improving. Most owners love their Atto 3. @@LetstalkelectricOTA

      Couldn’t agree more, @sbomorse. Dealers are lacking professionalism big time. Service team is run by one person only who relies on responses from china. My MG4 had a crazy rattle to which they said that china tech dont consider this to be a problem. They had no idea how to fix the oil leake, they kept topping up the oil. Hated every minute dealing with them.

  • @StewSims
    @StewSims 8 месяцев назад +1

    Sorry to hear your experiences, it's clearly not acceptable on any new car. However your comment regarding it being a large dealership and the fact they only had 1 technician is an industry wide problem. Even dealerships like VW / Audi who tend to have more technicians are pretty awfully run and especially franchised dealerships with lots of different brands in them are truly terrible. It's a real pain in the arse when it comes to new cars. I would say I've always got better service from small independent garages, but most of them won't touch a car that new. Build up a good relationship with them and give them a few simple jobs on a used car to see how it goes and you generally can find an honest garage that way. As soon as your car's warranty has run out or even before depending on the terms there is absolutely no reason to pay the extortionate servicing prices of main dealerships. Sorry I know that doesn't help with your situation I just felt it need to be said. Some of the comments on here make me laugh. At the end of the day a bit of leaking oil and a few rattles is the reality every used car owner has, it's not the end of the world but no way should a new car have those problems.
