  • I Can’t Buy AMD Anymore - Nvidia RTX HDR Update
I don’t think I can consider buying an AMD graphics cards anymore, despite them being better value… Let’s talk about it.
So recently Nvidia dropped a pretty huge update and everyone’s been talking about the new control panel which is actually really great as it’s much faster, simpler, requires no login, and consolidates everything Nvidia into one interface, but as cool as that is, honestly it was long overdue and I’m not giving out brownie points for joining the modern era with AMD and their adrenaline software.
No that’s not what this video is about. This video is about a new feature Nvidia brought. RTX HDR. Today we test Nvidia's new RTX HDR feature to see if it's worth buying an Nvidia GPU for this feature.

I have been with NVIDIA for a long time. Took them a long time to update their software. Last year I switched to team RED after a long time and although there were issues in the beginning, I am pretty happy I switched. I don't care for raytracing at the moment. What I do care about is good value for the price and NVIDIA products are just insanely expensive. I also will mention that NVIDIA's SURROUND is really bad compared to AMD's Eyefinity; I have 3 monitors and to be able to switch from 1 monitor to 3 monitors for games (depending on the game) is very nice. With NVIDIA upcoming RTX 5000 series, prices will be more insane than ever and really don't feel like rewarding them with my money, I will wait to see what RDNA 5 brings, for now I'm pretty happy with my Sapphire 7900 XTX Nitro+.

Nvidia is expensive for a reason. You are really missing out on raytracing. Its no longer a gimmick like it was 5 years ago. Nothing beats the experience of playing a game that has native hdr implementation in addition to full ray tracing effects (reflections, shadows, lighting, etc). combine that with 4k resolution high refresh rate low pixel response times... and you won't ever want to come out of your gaming room.

The only plus that RTX HDR has is that it can be used on older games with DX11 or lower, the rest is handled perfectly by windows auto-hdr option
Also the RTX HDR option in the new Nvidia settings app is half-baked , if you have 2 monitors , one with HDR and one without , the RTX HDR option will disapair until u unplug the Non-HDR monitor

To me who just switched to team red this month (7800 XT), I really don't think RTX HDR is that big of a deal. Sure, it's cool to make games look better, but so is Nvidia's ray reconstruction technology. The big question is: If we want to keep this new feature activated at all cost, how much less price to performance do you get with an Nvidia card compared to AMD? At this point it feels more like you no longer have to look at what performance you get out of a new GPU from Nvidia or AMD, but mainly about what experience do you want:
Higher fps per dollar? Go red!
More visual pleasure per dollar? Go green!
That said, I do congratulate everyone of you who's currently on team green (whether it's voluntarily or bc you can't afford an upgrade) on the new Nvidia app! The software side of things was one reason for me to go red and I have no regrets so far and I'm absolutely in love with Adrenaline❤ Still, I gotta admit that even if it's just a beta atm, that stuff looks damn cool as well! Finally Nvidia seems to care about their software side of things... Took them long enough😂

This is one of the most grounded comments I've seen on the Nvidia vs AMD debate. A lot of people on here have gotten overly passionate about this whole debate, to the point of genuinely getting mad at each other for buying products from the other team. It's important to remember that everyone has different needs and wants. Their decision should be as informed as it can be and of course there's implications, but at the end of the day it's still their decision to make and and frankly none of our business.

If you're not sure, then you likely have a monitor that either doesn't support HDR or has a very lackluster implementation of HDR with no full-array local dimming.. which means it's probably not worth turning on. When we have 16K, 4K will look like crap. Of course, at one point we'll get to the limits of the human eye, but that should be some time.

@@Tanax13 "When we have 16K, 4K will look like crap." onl;y fi youa re on agiant ass 65+ inch screen. you make an assumption that many do , that the number 720p , 4k 16k stand isolated and alone in what they represent. you have indeed bought into the marketing of these numbers. but those numbers are only HALF of an equation for figuring out number of pixels on agiven screen. 4k = 3840x2160 = 8, 294,400 that's there are a little over 8 million pixels on the screen at 4k resolution. and even having the full equation , youa re still looking at only half the story. Just as important as the number of pixels on screen , there is also Screen size. at 50 inches 4k has the SAME pixel density (PPI = pixels per inch) as 1080p on a 24 inch screen. you'd look at both and they'd look the same in quality because they ARE. now if you blew that 1080p up to 50 inches and then comapred yeah the 4k image would have 4x the PPI. but in general you're not gonna see much differnce between 1080p on a 20-32 inch tv compared to 4k on a 40-65 inch tv. as the ppi's at those ranges of comparison are roughly equivilant or so close there's no visual difference. you only see difference if the lower resolution is on the same size screen as the higher resolution.
now in the reverse , there s no reason to put higher resolutions on smaller screen than what is optimal viewing for taht resolution as putting too high of a resolution on a smaller screen only makes the screen more expensive while offering no real visual benefit , since human eyes can't see smaller pixel diferences on a screen that is that size or smaller. for this reason you'll never see 1080p on a screen smaller than 15inch unless some one is trying to sell you something, it's bull shit. it's why the switch screen is only 720p . you won't find 4k on a tv smaller than 32 inch either.
what i'm driving at is , 720p is not bad , 1080p is not bad , and 4k will never be bad. they'll only ever be bad for the size of screen you put them on , as too small and your eyes can't tell the diference , too large and the resolution looks to low in ppi.
but well that;'s marketing and why companeis don't go into this .. they just grab anumber liek 1080p or 4k and plaster that real big on the box to ensure folks drool over it rather or not it's needed even really.

Neither one of them bothered me at all. I actually liked the features in both. It's not that hard to look up information on what's in there and what everything means.
I'm not saying that I'm unhappy with the new NVIDIA app but now I have to learn everything again about it. And it's still in beta so it needs quite a bit of work yet.
I don't know what this video is going to talk about but I personally like all the RTX features on the RTX GPUs.

The RTX Auto-HDR toggle is completely missing from my NV app. I have enabled HDR in Windows' display settings for my two HDR monitors, and I also have the latest gaming driver installed on my 4090. What am I doing wrong?
I read that in order to use RTX Auto-HDR, your Windows has to be up to date. I always keep Windows up to date, but I am enrolled in the Windows insider program, which means that my version of Windows differs from the regular consumer release. Could this be the reason for my issue?

These are the best types of GPU videos. I have no reason to lie about what I have to say next but it makes no difference. I buy Nvidia not because I am team green or a fanboy, I hate AMD more. The first “tech” that made choosing irrelevant is going to sound dumb but like I just said, no reason to lie, physx. I had a rig with 2 780ti’s in SLI and a 750ti just as a dedicated physx card. Made the Batman Arkham games perfect. What did AMD have, oh tressfx which did look good on Lara’s hair in the TR reboot but tanked performance. Physx didn’t catch on but before that happened I was all in on GSynch. During the 980ti days, that helped smooth things out so well that even Crysis ran decently. And you are right about HDR, and RT and path tracing and AI frame generation and upscaling are all here to stay no matter how much gamers want to fight the feature(s) that they hate on. All those things are going to reduce the cost and time of developing these AAA games (and indie games too) so the demand will become a necessity like for the next generation consoles and that just drives the price down for the PCMR gamers.

Firstly. you can NOT have 2 monitors connected (or more than 1) Secondly, at least in the game i tested it in, which does not have its own HDR, and i have been using Windows Auto HDR for a long time. the windows HDR looks better. RTX HDR makes the characters faces look Ghostly. its boosting the wrong colors or weird detection of what to highlight and to what level. the AI needs better training etc. in fact you can do something cool and lower the "Grey Mids" slider all the way to 1, and see what exactly its highlighting and detecting as needs HDR boosts.

I'm planning to switch back to NVIDIA after the whole Helldivers mess lol. My 7900XTX is a beautiful card and it handles games like a champ but I've had too many issues with AMD's drivers to deal with.

Yes AMD drivers suck, if they fix this they might have a chance to overtake Nvidia.
