The best card I ever bought was my EVGA Geforce GTX 1060 6GB. So far it has played every game I have ever tried playing. When Fallout 4 came out I had to buy a new card and I bought a card that would fit the low end of the requirements which was an Nvidia Geforce 750ti 2 GB. I'm not sure why I bought the 1060. I can't remember but I found it on eBay as a refurbished that was like 6 or 7 years ago. I just took that card out and gave it a deep clean and new paste. Having 32 GB of 1600mgz of RAM has likely helped it but I'm fairly sure that there are some games coming down the pipeline to which I may have to upgrade my entire system or just not play those games. I own something like 500 games that play on this system thanks to Epic Games. I have no shortage of games to try and play so I'm not too worried about upgrading. This means I can sit and wait for everyone to upgrade and sell or refurbish their used systems. Hopefully, I will be able to find some decent used gear that I can buy 1 part every couple of months until I can build a new rig but this system is decent for me right now. It's an Asus MB with an Intel I7 4770k 32GB of RAM and a 6GB 1060. I'm a retired PC tech. I passed at the top of my class and I apprenticed with a computer tech after I finished my course. Computers were much easier to repair back then compared to now but most people don't actually repair computers all they do is clean and swap parts around and then call themselves a computer tech. I have this MB that worked before it was shipped I have tried almost everything to fix it. I just spent 2 hours micro-scoping the board looking for signs of damage with no luck. I did find a few bent CPU pins so I fixed them but doubt that will fix it. There is a lot of redundancy in those pins so it doesn't matter if 1 or 2 are out of order. I will now order a diagnostics card because I seem to have lost mine I have one for a laptop but it won't work on a desktop. No one really fixes a motherboard issue they just buy a new one or replace it if a ram stick goes we don't fix it we buy a new one If a video card goes you buy a new one. There are people that are fixing their GPUs now and that's good to see. Usually, though you don't repair a part you simply replace it. How can you call your self a tech if all you do is replace parts?
It comes down to cost per hour. You can't justify spending an entire day, or more, to find a broken trace on a board when you are trying to run a business. If he can throw a new piece of hardware at it and get 5 jobs done in a day that's what pays the bills. Spending all that same time on one job is not an effective use of his time as a business. If it's some super rare or ungodly expensive piece of hardware then maybe, but the customer needs to charged accordingly. Most people want the fix done as quickly and cheaply as possible. On your own personal hardware that's a different story you can burn all the time you want on it.

yes but like warhammer40k darktide or remnant 2 it is nearly unplayable without using any kind of upscale technology. Therefore only focusing on rasterization on future games won't work because of incompetent devs.
I have an unlimited budget for my current build; I had $9,000 set aside for a Mac Pro, and the new Mac Pro has made me sad. It’s on me to build my own machine. So, my requirements were: 1. Most importantly, Thunderbolt 4 with dGPU pass through. I power: either 2x 5K displays or 1 6K display, a 16 channel mixer, 3 mirrorless camera, a lighting rig, various accessories off of ONE cable. 2. Mini ITX. 3. Either a 10GB Ethernet or a second TB4 port for Ethernet Mini ITX forced a z690i board: there is only one mini board that has TB4 dGPU pass through. From there, I just had to pick components. I analyzed where my workloads were bound: they are largely GPU bound workloads. That meant that a 13900K was going to be wasted - which is actually great, because I need to mitigate heat; I can’t fit a full size CPU cooler. I grabbed a 13600K. Then, I analyzed linux support for both Nvidia and AMD. I chose AMD, and then I just picked their top of line card that I could fit into my case: Pulse 7900 XTX. Ram was easy: 2 6800 speed DDR5 sticks at 48GB each. And for the case, it’s a custom case that I can’t disclose the manufacturer of, or Apple will shut them down - but it’s a miniature replica of a cheese grater Mac Pro. Just barely large enough to fit these components and an SFX PSU. The plus side: maybe I’ll install windows on one of my 3 M.2 drives (4TB) and load up Steam. I haven’t used windows since Vista, so it’ll be interesting to say the least.

If you are a Fortnite player i prefer NVIDIA because AMD haves some issues with Fortnite like performance mode not working right and some other stuff. But else i prefer AMD
For me, power savings rack up over time and it’s something I strongly consider too. Nvidia has nailed efficiency this last gen and it also prevents things like coil whine from occurring as much due to the lower power draw
Want ONLY GAMING go for AMD, everything else like Content Creation, 3D work, AI Computing, etc it's all Nvidia. Not to mention even in Gaming Nvidia beats AMD but still AMD will suffice most people's needs.

Honestly as someone who switched over from nivida to amd the best comparison I would make for these two companies is like Apple vs Samsung. Amd is marketed for value just like Samsung. And apple and nivida is marketed for “premium” features that you have to pay for even though the features aren’t that premium at the end of the day
Used cards are tough to choose from, 3070's are cheaper than even used 6700 xt's, and perform better in 1440p which is my monitor resolution, but 6700xt's got more vram, so not sure which to go with, coming from a 1070 ti and 2600x
Everyone keeps talking about just gaming, I know it's the majority of market. But what about 3d modelers, editors and stuff. We also like to be included. 😭
For the first time in my life I just bought a amd gpu for streaming I'm done with the prices of Nvidia. I got a 7900xt btw to use the av1 encoder eventually.
Heres why I'm going Nvidia not AMD: I considered Intel initially, but the problem is, they make excelled low cost chips, but I want max performance, but AMD was more mid range, however, at this point, while AMD makes the mid-high range, they just don't make GPUs with enough performance, the higher level Nvidia chips are still supreme, if I were going for a GTX, or maybe even 3050, I would instead of Nvidia, be going Intel, if I were getting like a 3060 TI, 3070, I would instead go AMD if I were getting like a 3080 TI or higher, I would stay with Nvidia

Actually, a lot of software programs like 3DS Max with Vray only work at desired levels with Nvidia. Sure you can run those with other GPU brands but they will not preform as well considering the write their programs to utilize Nvidia Cuda Cores for example.
“There are benefits to using Nvidia.”

I got a 4090 in two of my rigs just waiting for the 50 series and I’ll have ryzen 9 7950xd 96gb of ram and a new card will be wild
Why so much RAM???
I wish AMD would have better support for literally anything other than gaming because 90% of creative software uses some sort of function that either only works with Nvidia cards, or works far better with Nvidia. At least Intel seems to be showing some interest in markets other than gaming so hopefully 2 or 3 generations down the line they'll be the Nvidia competitor that AMD refuses to be.
Since I also use linux for work, I think i would go for AMD in my end desktop build, its a bit of a mess with my RTX 2060 right nos
I had a mining rig and when crypto went bust I sold everything and built my dream gaming rig. 13900k with 4090. I'll never build something like this ever again but I will say it is the best rig I've ever played. And I am very happy with it.....
If power consumption is a factor because of high energy prices you can't beat Nvidia it will be cheaper over the live of the card.
It's not even about energy prices. It's about heat and noise aswell. When you live in a hot country and/or build a small sff PC, then you're gonna buy the card that gives you the most fps per watt, and that's most likely an Nvidia card.
Lmfao these comments are braindead, Nvidia cards currently have the worst power draw. Since the 6000 series, AMD cards universally all pull much less power than their competitors while retaining better or relatively the same performance.

6950 XT is definitely the sweet spot where I live. Cost the same as 4070 dual cards, and performs much better.
Same! Got the gaming x from msi and still using it
Same, still using it, even for VR gaming
It comes down to cost per hour. You can't justify spending an entire day, or more, to find a broken trace on a board when you are trying to run a business. If he can throw a new piece of hardware at it and get 5 jobs done in a day that's what pays the bills. Spending all that same time on one job is not an effective use of his time as a business. If it's some super rare or ungodly expensive piece of hardware then maybe, but the customer needs to charged accordingly. Most people want the fix done as quickly and cheaply as possible. On your own personal hardware that's a different story you can burn all the time you want on it.

Nvidia is good if your getting it used (be careful when buying used ofc) but if your getting a brand new GPU AMD is the way to go
If they are priced fairly and you aren't planing to keep them for long nvidia maybe better for you, but amd is more future proof because of 1st : fine wine drivers, 2st : custom drivers allowing latest drivers in old legacy graphics cards(r9 series and older)

Lots of streaming is switching to A V1 encoding which both sides have and AMD has FSR which, depending on your use case will be more than enough if the game supports it. Overall the main thing to focus on is rasterization performance. Raytracing looks fine IMO but the performance hit is just too big of a hit
This
yes but like warhammer40k darktide or remnant 2 it is nearly unplayable without using any kind of upscale technology. Therefore only focusing on rasterization on future games won't work because of incompetent devs.
I have an unlimited budget for my current build; I had $9,000 set aside for a Mac Pro, and the new Mac Pro has made me sad. It’s on me to build my own machine.
So, my requirements were:
1. Most importantly, Thunderbolt 4 with dGPU pass through. I power: either 2x 5K displays or 1 6K display, a 16 channel mixer, 3 mirrorless camera, a lighting rig, various accessories off of ONE cable.
2. Mini ITX.
3. Either a 10GB Ethernet or a second TB4 port for Ethernet
Mini ITX forced a z690i board: there is only one mini board that has TB4 dGPU pass through.
