FWIW I do miss the ability to enjoy ridiculousness when I go see a movie, that's one of the reasons I appreciate James Gunn as a director. I have the ability to see the movie for what it is, not some kind of life lesson, not some kind of inspirational epiphany, just stupid, violent way to laugh at the ludicrous, I understand context and compartmentalize what I see as silly, made up fun. Isn't this why we have a rating system? Does everything have to be made to not insult the more sensitive of us? The film's title includes the word "SUICIDE" in it. If you're disgusted or shocked because of the violence affecting your kid, then that's on YOU. Let the rest of us have our 'stupid time'. Life isn't easy, sometimes it's fun to dive into the absurd.
I 100% agree! So many people have forgotten what movies are about. We want to escape from real life & forgot about everything in the real world for a couple hours. We are constantly bombarded & reminded of how bad things are in the world & in our own lives. There's a Pandemic that has been going on for a little over a year. We all have a house or rent & bills that we struggle to pay every single day. There are people dying every single day from Covid who refuse to get vaccinated or can't get vaccinated. We have people starving, homeless and needing medical care. Real life is all around us, smacking us in the face and laughing. When I go to see Suicide Squad or similar movies I just want to have a good time. Just sit back & relax. If it's possible I put my feet. I pay money to see a movies where I can get a few laughs & have a good time at. I just want to enjoy my snacks, relax, laugh & have fun myself. When I go to movies like the Suicide Squad, I'm not looking to see if it's morally right or wrong. I not looking or counting how many people died in the movie. People die everyday in the world and people are upset because this movie shows violence & deaths. I would be more upset about what's actually going on in the real world. If you want to make change start there. If you don't want your kids seeing movies like this just don't let them. If your kid does something violent they didn't get the urge from a movie, song or game. They already had violent tendencies. Quit blaming movies, music and games. Take responsibility!
Nanue is so good in this movie, he’s so cute. I loved rat girl and polka dot man and I was surprised by that. I also loved Idris Elba’s character and Harley’s so baddass here.
I think the reason the third act works despite it kinda following the usual superhero formula is because by the time buildings start falling over, they have effectively established that these characters surviving is not a guarantee. The stakes actually feel real. Two of my friends and I out loud said, "No!" when it looked like a certain character was going to die. James Gunn did a phenomenal job with that.
You can absolutely bet that *Idris Elba* is gonna be "badass" again as the outlaw *Rufus Buck* in the upcoming 2021 Western, *'THE HARDER THEY FALL'* .
Honestly more sequels to shitty movies should just pull a "Yeah that didn't happen lol." Comics do it all the time and if they did it with Wonder Woman 1984 or Mortal Kombat 2021 I'd be happy.
Imagine at work, you do a terrible job and your ass is fired. These people get to live as millionaires but wed never get to “The job 2: the promotion” after wasting millions of dollars and resources.
Martin and Billy are 100% correct. Nothing about this film contradicts the 2016 version, and the inclusion of Harley Quinn and the other characters proves it's a sequel. They wanted another whack at Suicide Squad, but this is most definitely not a reboot in any way shape or form
I think it's absolutely a reboot. "Reboot" has been used to refer to both sequels and remakes since the term first showed up uninvited. It's never been a third category, it's just industry bullshit talk for "New people don't need to see the other ones."
@@nobodyspecial675 No a reboot is when you start the idea of a franchise over. It has been INCORRECTLY used "to refer to both sequels and remakes". A remake is taking one story and using the same plot but making a change here or there to reflect the time it is being made. King Kong 1933 vs King Kong 1976. Same basic story but the details are different. A sequel is another story that usually continues the story of at least some of the people in the previous film. Sometimes the story is directly related to the previous story sometimes not. Then we started getting heavily into franchises with continuity. If one of those franchises got stuck or unpopular you may have the idea redone. THIS is where Reboot came in with its invitation held firmly in hand. The term reboot came from rebooting a computer. You start a computer and you have several programs you can run. That is what you can do with that computer. so you run Excel, Chrome and play Solitare. You then reboot the computer. You still have the same programs (essentially the concept of the franchise) but you can now do different things with those programs (essentially the plot and the characters)
@@claytoncourtney1309 Your definition of a reboot could accomodate The Suicide Squad AND Robocop 2014. You forgot to say what actually distinguishes a reboot from whatever it's not under your definition. I just go by how the industry uses the word (a buzz word to describe any sequel/prequel/remake/re-imagining/new adaptation that serves as some kind of fresh start), rather than what the internet concluded it meant shortly after it was coined without a full definition.
There's nods in there but I personally classify it as a soft reboot/stand-alone film. It's a way for them to keep what worked in the previous film (Harley, Flag, Waller & Boomerang for example) while also throwing in new things (Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Ratcatcher 2, Polkadot Man) while also KINDA hinting/referencing the other film but doing it in a way to separate themselves from it & the other DCEU films in general.
What really made this movie for me was honestly Will Smith being gone. Having him outta the way allowed other characters to breathe. The other one was just Will Smith and friends with Harley and Joker getting a few scenes here and there. And I do mean Will Smith because there was not an ounce of Deadshot in that role. It just felt like they let Will Smith be himself. He might as well have been his character from Bad Boys or MiB. Here, everyone gets their moments to shine and the movie is better for it. Even Rick Flag of all people finally got his moments. They also did a better job with the humor. SS tried to be funny but TSS was actually funny and it had great jokes. They have jokes that they build up throughout the movie and they don't pay off immediately, then the joke comes through and it's hilarious.
The R Rating was key making this film work. When you take away the R rating from a movie you get films like Black Widow and Venom that drastically fall short of what the masterpiece that they could be.
King shark running accomplishes two things. A) it's absolutely adorable. B). just the confidence he has in running with the humans like it's no big deal is hilarious. Lastly, just the "good-bye" soundtrack in the background makes it even funnier.
Man rick flags death hurt me. I was so sad and upset. I really hope that last line by him to peacemaker eats him up inside. Was also mad that he got live. I was cheering when I saw what looked like blood sport killing him.
Too bad it just proves that Fillion is not a good actor on anything other than a TV series, because there is no universe where his acting quality is anywhere even remotely close to theatrical movie range.
Yeah I REALLY hate to say it, I was so excited for Killer Croc in the original...and he's the most cliché black stereotype ever to the point of offensive. I'm glad that was brought up cause King Shark is clearly his replacement and just seems WAY BETTER.
I hope there is still a way to make Idris Elba the next Bond--that's the only thing that would get me in the theater right now (with shots and mask on).
No thank you.....Elba doesn't need to be anywhere near Bond....The guy is in his 50s, its going to be atleast 3-5 years before they even start another Bond so there is 53-55 and another 5-8 years before they make another one after that so he's well in his 60s by that point...There is no universe where we need a one and done Bond.
Idris Elba would make a great James Bond, but who knows if we will get to see that opportunity happen. He did an awesome job as Bloodsport. The movie was way better than the other one.
He doesn't even need to be _"James Bond"_ . In Ian Fleming's vision, Bond is not the only MI6 00 _("Double O")_ agent... In the upcoming 2021 Bond movie, _'No Time To Die'_ , the character *"Nomi"* _(Lashana Lynch)_ is a 00 agent, apparently being designated *007* because Bond, _now the ex-007_ , is living in exile in Jamaica. So yeah, _Idris (or another actor) wouldn't need to be the character "James Bond" to be a MI6 00 agent_ . Idris or another actor could be 001, 003, 008...007... No need to be named "James Bond" per se. Hell, his name could be _"Robert DuBois"_ 😳, or in the case of 007 (2021), Nomi.

It’s a soft reboot. The “hints” that the first one happened are not important enough that you have to see the first one, Captain Boomerang, Harley and Flagg act like they know each other but it’s more a reference to past missions then the first one specifically.
@@thomasjohnson1885 exactly. The only scene that actually get close to referencing a past DCEU film is the scene with Harley when she goes into detail about how she made a promise to herself to look for red flags if she ever decided to date again (a reference to Birds of Prey). Bloodsport was awesome, so was King Shark and Polkadot Man as well as Harley Quinn and Rick Flag. I love the King Shark from the Harley Quinn show and I love this adaptation as well. James Gunn was a good choice for Suicide Squad, the movie had the right about of humor and being serious at times. I can't wait to see what happens to the Squad next.
The main thing I hated about the movie were those annoying office workers working for Amanda Waller I kept hoping they'd die horrible deaths. Especially when they betrayed Waller she isn't the type of person you'd want to cross, her character is as ruthless as she is patriotic.
The fire man from the first suicide squad was the only character than had any business one a mission vs a Super natural witch lady. He actually had some powers
"If you think you know who's gonna die you're going to be wrong." They literally show you who survives in the trailer outside of the stinger and one surprise death.

She's certainly looking to be my favorite character in the film, but I'm gonna just assume everyone except Harley Quinn is gonna die so that I wouldn't be sad once that happens.
Did anybody else notice the similarities between the "Starro" zombie scene in this movie and the "Starla" zombie scene in Slither?
I did too
I think the reason the third act works despite it kinda following the usual superhero formula is because by the time buildings start falling over, they have effectively established that these characters surviving is not a guarantee. The stakes actually feel real. Two of my friends and I out loud said, "No!" when it looked like a certain character was going to die. James Gunn did a phenomenal job with that.
This Suicide Squad is better cause they were wearing that good ole DT Merch
You can absolutely bet that *Idris Elba* is gonna be "badass" again as the outlaw *Rufus Buck* in the upcoming 2021 Western, *'THE HARDER THEY FALL'* .

Except of course for Flag, Harley and Boomerang kinda talking about the last movie without talking about the last movie....
This movie was amazing. Every character got a moment to shine and the pacing was great.
Completely agree
The R Rating was key making this film work. When you take away the R rating from a movie you get films like Black Widow and Venom that drastically fall short of what the masterpiece that they could be.
King shark running accomplishes two things. A) it's absolutely adorable. B). just the confidence he has in running with the humans like it's no big deal is hilarious. Lastly, just the "good-bye" soundtrack in the background makes it even funnier.
