    The grand seven year long run that spans 75 years of Batman’s history. The ultimate meta-contextual tale of how Batman fully evolves beyond physical limitations and time itself, with Bat-Man becoming Bat-God as he cheats and defeats the devil. My favorite Batman comic run of all time

    1) This was a great, very on-point video. You clearly "get" Morrison and "get" the "Batsaga"
    2) The problem (if You can call it that) with Morrison's run and its impact is its long shadow. Snyder immediately started trying to ape it. DC's nu52 initiative disrupted it, creating a bonkers-ass timeline for Batman (Of course, DC had to just reverse course after half a decade of trying to force their half-baked, Didio-dictated, nu-90s concept.). The thing is, no one can write Bat-God like Morrison because their understanding of stakes, payoff, literary references, and reversals is almost unparalleled in the industry. (Hickman can do it.)
    And that's fine. Not every Batman story has to be some arcing epic. Sometimes, bro just WHAM-POWs Two-Face after doing some sewer investigating or some shit. But subsequent writers have taken the lesson to o'erleap their talent in favor of their ambition to try to compete--to try to get on the Mount Rushmore where O'Neil is. And, more often than not, it doesn't work. (See: Battle for the Cowl). I will give it to the Court of Owls concept, though. No way that doesn't happen without a _ton_ of pieces from Morrison's run.

    Great video, but I kind of think that Morrison’s run is overrated. Some of it was really good , but a lot of it was just Morrison on autopilot. I think that he also should have left a lot of The Silver Age stuff in the PAST! Morrison said that his last story was supposed to be RIP, and he should have left after then. Also, how he wrote Talia as a rapist and villain. Ugh!

    The video highlights the core philosophy of Morrison's run. Batman is this man-made eternal hero concept that transcends time, space or individuality. Batman can exist globally as a corporation of Batmen from around the world. Batman can exist in different points in history, through time travel and traversing fantastical realms. Batman even transcends mortality and identity through Robin/Nightwing (his legacy) taking up his mantle and Bruce's eventual return from Darkseid's omega sanction. Morrison wants Batman to represent the idea that if an individual commits to this superhero renaissance-man thinking: that if someone has enough determination and preparation- they are unstoppable. Morrison wants the reader to know that Batman isn't afraid of what's in the darkness. Those who hide in the darkness do so, because they're afraid of Batman.

    • @Parainsomne
      @Parainsomne Месяц назад +2

      Yes. But; the last third of their run was about the constrains and downfalls of the characters trapped in this unending narrative. Batman or his status quo can't change drastically without veing back to basics after certain number of issues. Batman's super human focus on being Batman is both his greatest strength and weakness, he is the greatest detective, but an emotionally stinted man who while loving his son and partners cant emotionally connect with them. While having the batfamily he is stil trapped in the mindscape of an orphan. That's why their run ends in that pyrric note; Batman saved the day, but it cost him all his growth to the series, batman inc is no more, his son is dead, the woman he loved is dead, his enemies are plotting against him, the bat family has grown distant and he is an orphan motivated by his thirst of justice and revenge. Bruce can't retire, we can't have a satisfactory conclusion to all his stories, he will always have to be Batman.

    Talia did NOT give birth to that hell spawn. Damian is a test tube clone and the biggest mistake to have been created by DC. His existence undermines the theme of what the Batfamily is. The idea of the Batfamily is a bunch of unrelated people joining together and learning to care for each other. Damian just shows up and acts entitled as the sole heir of the cowl as a "true" son of Bruce. He's an awful character.
