What do you mean, it follows the same death route of every film, small delay and then pop, the first death, small delay, shot to the face, orange girl, small delay, on fire, captain boomerang, ran up, small delay, impaled, it goes on and on and on and on, it's the same sequence time and time again, if you want a unpredictable death, make it fast and out of focus rather than zooming in to the character out of no where, it's like the saying "dont play with your food" well dont play with your characters deaths, because then ots really predictable, now at what point in the film it may not be, but we all saw the ending fight in the trailer and saw the characters in it and we deducted from it. So I think it's safe to say that the most unexpected part of the film would be john cenas betrayal. But people wanted this and I cant argue that they didnt get what they want, but I can argue that this looks like pure stupidity when compared to the first one, and i would watch that 50 times over watching this a second time.

I just want to take a second to talk about how a less than 5 second scene of The Squad trying to Help King Shark was done Practically. Things like that show just how much Gunn understands and loves this genre.
@@phelisejoy7118 he's talking about the scene when the building blew up, and the tiny carnivorous fishes started biting the fuck out of Nanaue. Both Harley and Bloodsport went out of their way to swim to him and tried ripping the lil fish guys off him.
Sorta spoilers but not really. Also damn for a film where the characters are meant to be expendable I couldn’t help but fall in love with Ratcatcher 2, King Shark, Bloodsport and Rick Flagg (and Harley tbf). Polkadot man was also a beast. Despite being a cruelly hilarious film at times it also had such great characters and a strong emotional centre. AND every plot moment was so well set up. Honestly one of the best team up movies ever, I got the same chills in the line up scene and the “turn around” scene in this film as when the Avengers stood in a circle for the first time in Avengers Assemble.
Rick flag and peacemakers fight was more emotionally impactful than anything in the mcu so far for me ahah. I like the mcu, but it needs to step up its game to be on par with this for me. You could practically see the ink on screen it felt so much like a comic
I'm convinced James Gunn can make any superhero/villain a great, fun, likable character. He made us love a dude named Polka Dot man. The guy is a henius
Bloodsport and Ratcatcher 2 are my favorite characters but Rick Flag was a surprise standout, he actually he had a well rounded character arc this time. From Waller’s no nonsense puppet to rebelling against her for the bettermen of others, and he went out fighting his old reflection in the form of Peacemaker and I always loved those kinds of fight it reminds me of Logan vs X-24. Props to Joel Kinnaman too for giving his all for his role in this, much better than he did in the first
(SPOILERS) Sucks what happened to him. I thought the Post Credit Scene was alluding to Rick survival (I know it's stupid because they even showed his heart being stabbed, I felt squeamish at that scene) and when we found out it was Peacemaker. I felt contempt seeing that.
Man I never knew that was what they intended and it's actually pretty brilliant, Peacemaker being the caricature of Rick Flag. Now I'm torn between wanting him to stay dead or alive
For me, this is everything I wanted and more. As studios relentlessly pump out more and more superhero movies, it seems that more people than ever are saying the genre is tired. I am happy to report that James Gunn delivered a movie that quells such a concern with massive success. This film was frankly batshit insane and I am here for every moment of it. It’s so colourful in both it’s visuals and writing that I am just as excited to rewatch it as I was before my first viewing (maybe even moreso). The characters are really well written and they all standout in their own separate ways. Polka Dot Man is easily the standout for me as I loved his weird characterisation (helps that I love weird characters) and he easily had some of the funniest moments. Bloodsport, Rick Flag and Ratcatcher II were also brilliant in this and Margot Robbie easily gave her best performance as Harley Quinn. And of course, King Shark is adorably vicious! Peacemaker is an unlikable dick, but despite that I’m actually excited for the Peacemaker prequel show that was announced a while back too. Overall, this was a fantastic time that, while not perfect, hit every spot for me in all the right places. The violence is brutal and the action, comedy and storyline were all brilliant for me. I would get why certain people wouldn’t like the movie as it’s definitely a specific taste (and a specific humour that may not jell with everyone) but for me this was my dream superhero movie. The Dark Knight and Logan may be regarded as masterpieces of this genre, but to me this is the most fun of the lot; hence the high rating. Exactly the type of movie I needed to get me back in the theatre and you should definitely get your tickets as soon as you can. More of this please DC!
@@josievanluis Well, it's a good thing we all aren't robots who think alike, because IMO, you are dead wrong. This movie was great. Never was a comic book reader, but I appreciate the stories told through the movies. More please!
Went in with low expectations (James Gunn made me go see it), and left with a mind blown as hard as some of the people in the film. I do think that Birds of Prey improved Harley, they portrayed her as a nutty character and just crazy. James Gunn shows her intelligence as well as her crazy side. Harley Quinn is a psychiatrist after all and smart. He truly did her justice.
I actually feel Gunn made the right choice of making Harley a side character in the movie and that less is better…. She got a nice side plot/mini story within the main plot that was over and done with, then I struggle to remember her doing anything else…. This allowed the other characters a chance to shine (especially Ratcatcher 2, who was the heart and soul of the movie).
@Bruce Snow I watched The Suicide Squad directly after first season of altered carbon and was surprised to see him again lol. He is excellent. I need to watch more of his work

It first occurred to me while watching GotG2, but The Suicide Squad confirmed it: James Gunn's superpower is in how he uses context to tell a story. You think you understand Yondu's relationship to Peter Quill in GotG, but Gunn upends it in GotG2. In The Suicide Squad, Gunn takes that ability to reshape your perceptions and dials it up to 12. He is a genius.
Amazing what a difference that James Gunn made to Suicide Squad film from the first one. Full of a great action scenes, funny shots and Margot Robbie fit as always. The Old Suicide Squad film's absolutely not fit to lick the New Suicide Squad shoes

Hells yeah. Sebastian the Rat needs to be protected and for me way more admirable than King Shark. The little dude offered a leaf, chocolate, handshake and wave that's just too wholesome for the world. I may consider handle a rat, gotta work the nerve to not feel disgusted by it first. Strangely, the part where Ratcatcher II reminisce of her time with her father asking why choose to rats to control. It tug me in the feels man and such a uplifting note to think on curiously.
"Rats are the lowliest and most despised of all creatures, my love. If they have purpose, so do we all." that really hits home what Gunn was trying to get across
I really like how they allows the bright colors that are correlated with comic books that modern super hero movies ditched was used a bit more in this movie. It detaches it from reality a bit more which makes all the wacky shit believable. And also it makes it a more fun movie in general and makes it easier on the eyes when the night scenes are lit well and most of the movie is during the day.
I actually almost cried when Starro uttered its last line. Like you said, it was an animal backed into a cage and it just so happens that this animal can possess and control humans.
James Gunn is my favorite director. I was abused as a kid and I've been in shitty situations and painted as a bad guy for things like that. He understands the nuance of humanity, the feeling of being an outcast more than anyone
Especially since in the 70s, a lot of gritty action movies would get a ton of sequels. I'd be okay with different titles, like The Suicide Squad Rides Again or Ride of the Suicide Squad
@@KalleVilenius that's an outlier though, and the fact that you cherry picked that specifically proves that. There's still conceptualizing, writing, casting, editing, and promotion.

I was sold when weasel drowned in the first 5 min. From that moment I knew this would be one of my favorite movies!! James Gunn must be protected at all cost😂
All throughout the story, bloodsport learned the value of human life, first showing subtle hints of remorse once he learned of waller’s ‘distraction’, AKA team A getting wiped from existence, then, soon after, feeling guilty for obliterating the rebels (whom they were supposed to be helping), once again with Ratcatcher II, seeing his daughter in her, and a chance to be better, like maybe the small sliver of good in him isn’t gone for good. Very much reminiscent of Deadshot in the first movie, he took his second chance at not being 100% a bad guy.
It's simply awesome. No joke. I'm a MCU fan and this film is easily top 5 comic book movies ever!!!!!! Having Gunn direct it was genius. The small characters were infectious. Out of everything I loved about this movie, the memory ratcatcher has of her father during the climax WRECKS ME in the best way. Such a beautiful scene.
The best part about this movie is the deep moral it incorporates and the parallels it draws. It's basically symbolizes that it doesn't matter if you are not good at things or even good for nothing, if you really want it from the bottom of your heart and keep fighting for it, you can surely make it, no matter what the odds are Basically the director handpicked a group of D grade DC characters who were literally a bunch of unknowns, nobody knew who they were, not even most comic fans. Most of them were written as side-side characters or simply as one of jokes. and then got used to deliver this masterpiece. Now these D grade characters have more fans than legit A grade Dceu characters like Batman and Superman. The ratcatcher scene where he explains "why rats papa" is a direct metaphor for "why these D grade characters, gunn?" It's not a movie, it's art

Gunn turned a Bag of Poop he was given (the first suicide squad) and turned it into a wedding cake! 2021 Suicide Squad is an awesome ride! The trailer made me assume it was going to be very mediocre, but nope! It kept impressing me.
James Gunn’s suicide squad was everything the original movie should’ve and could’ve been if Warner Brothers hadn’t tinkered with it so much, in this instance they let James Gunn do whatever he wanted and it was absolutely wonderful.
Why it millions time better than the 2016 one : 1. It’s Rated R 2. The acting is actually great for a comic book movie who usually didn’t really paid attention to that aspects. The didn’t waste Viola Davis, Idris Elba, or anyone 3. The shock value and the jokes are well written, fits perfectly when it’s needed 4. The actual story is actually simple but very impactful meaning behind it and add more the the whole nobody is good or bad things 5.They bring an actual underdogs villain like The Polka Dot man, not some Joker-shit 6. HARLEY QUINN GOT IT’S FULL POTENTIAL THAT SHE DESERVES 7. It’s not pretentious, trying so hard to be cool and edgy like the 2016 one 8. King Shark
This was movie was like drinking a fresh Coca Cola from 1969 with a squeeze of lime with a bag of potato chips, and a hamburger. Something very classic, something clean, and something sharp but very wholesome. But you’re also enjoying this delightful meal while inside a Jackson Pollack painting, covered in all DA COLORS!
The former leaders of WB did so much to destroy the directors' work in the cases of JL and SS, in an effort to forge another MCU. They brought in Whedon, and he turned Batman into a joke character (blasphemy, unless Adam West is involved) and let the company who created the trailer you love so much cut Suicide Squad into something almost unrecognizable. Hopefully, this merger with Discovery will lead to WB actually letting their creators be creative, as Gunn was with TSS.
Probably one of the best things I enjoyed about this movie was that it had no problem embracing the campiness that permeates much of DC's history. They don't shy away from the ridiculousness of the outfits of characters like Peacemaker, or Polkadot Man. At the same time they don't rely on that quirkiness to carry the film. They manage to strike a perfect balance of recognizing and making fun of the strangeness of the characters and situation, but maintaining a serious enough tone to keep the audience invested. Honest question: When was the last time a comic book movie had a colorful final villain? Aside from Thanos, Marvel and DC showed gritty, dark, desaturated villains. Primary colors of black, grey, and maybe a splash of white or red. Gunn was like 'fuck that noise' and kept Staro bright pink and blue while still making him a genuine threat.
its not the same story as the Snyder cut though, I think even Ayer has said that. order and length of scenes is changed in SS but I don't think things are straight up refilmed to alter the tone ? hell, even The Snyder Cut, wasn't "The Snyder Cut" - it was stuff Zack had chatted with fans about and had suggestions and feedback about for about 3 years so he knew what would fly, what would suck and what to add that wasn't planned earlier at all.
@@etherspin It's not as drastic a fucking over as Snyder, but Ayer was indeed fucked over. He oversaw the reshoots himself. So all of the footage IS his. But he's made it clear numerous times the theatrical cut is NOT his film. The info is all out there. Ayer was locked out of the edit by the studio and WB hired the trailer editing company to edit the film. The entire tone of the film was altered to be a more kinetic and music-video like aesthetic. The Ayer Cut is told linearly. We meet the characters as the story progresses. That alone would make the film better...a simple re-edit of what we do have. It features a full score without all of the random and shoddy needledrops. There was to be more character work with MOST of the cast - Flagg, Enchantress, Katana, Joker, especially. Hell, even Slipknot was supposed to have a bit more to him. Diablo was supposed to survive and Joker was supposed to factor into the finale. So while the butchering of SS is not AS severe as Snyder's JL...it was indeed butchered.
I like that James Gunn understands the characters. I feel like that's something that's been lacking in DC's live-action movies. Also, I wish someone would retcon Jared Leto's Joker. The Joker is a complex character and Suicide Squad didn't show any of that. I guess you could argue that this version of the Joker was Harley's reimagining of him to get over her fascination, but...that doesn't explain why he also appeared in the Justice League movie. That version of the Joker sucks and I hate him.
Your analysis of this movie and what came before it plus your comparisons to guardians of the galaxy are beyond spot on this movie is balls to the wall insane and I am here for it.
the fact that they let bloodsport shed a tear and not use it as some joke but use it to accentuate the growth he is now going through. it was fucking awesome and i love positive example of masculinity like bloodsports growth and drax's whole personality (aside from that one "whore" comment in the first GotG)

This sequel was just PERFECTION. You didn't know who was gonna die and I was all tensed up lol
Are you serious? I knew that Alba's character, Harley and Peacemaker aren't going to die. When started watching I was under the impression that the woman of color isn't going to die, and look, I was right.
@@Wlof25 But when they killed most of the team in the 1st part of the movie, it was really shocking lol and I would've never expected other main characters to die as well :( and when Idris' character was falling I thought he was gonna die too and that is what I liked about the film, it really portrayed that their missions are really "suicidal" and that they can be thrown away like trash with a single press of a button or through a life staking mission. In short, expendable bastards :P

@@creed8712 I think he means Ratcatcher, and since he referred to her by her skin color instead of her very easy to remember name I'm willing to bet he didn't actually watch the movie.

Which scene?
Was it when those fish things were trying to eat him?
When?
What are you referring to?
What about Peacemaker?

@@shukrysii828 Its because they are setting up for a Peacemaker show now.
Man I never knew that was what they intended and it's actually pretty brilliant, Peacemaker being the caricature of Rick Flag. Now I'm torn between wanting him to stay dead or alive
I agree with your sentence most of Idris Elba and newcomer Daniela Melchior fucking nailed there roles perfectly
The javelin that Javelen carries ironically has the best arc in the movie.
Javelins are thrown in an arc. That had to be done on purpose.

It first occurred to me while watching GotG2, but The Suicide Squad confirmed it: James Gunn's superpower is in how he uses context to tell a story. Best quote from the movie? I got Bloodsport saying “Why the fook would I want a leaf?!”
I really hope this is a new beginning to DC films.
Appreciate your support of Releasing The Ayer Cut
Just like Snyder, the man deserves to have his vision realized.
Absolutely #ReleaseTheAyerCut
its not the same story as the Snyder cut though, I think even Ayer has said that.
order and length of scenes is changed in SS but I don't think things are straight up refilmed to alter the tone ?
hell, even The Snyder Cut, wasn't "The Snyder Cut" - it was stuff Zack had chatted with fans about and had suggestions and feedback about for about 3 years so he knew what would fly, what would suck and what to add that wasn't planned earlier at all.
Screw the Ayer Cut, James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is far superior.
Your James Gunn comment at the end couldn’t have been more appropriate given recent news. Nice video man.
great job with this. love the channel
Thank you man 🤙🏻
I like that James Gunn understands the characters.
Loved this video, man. I couldn't agree more!
Thank you buddy ❤️ that means a lot. Glad you dig the video and glad you also loved the film 🙌🏻
I really really enjoyed how James let the movie have genuine moments of emotion, like the bus scene. No punchline, just Bloodsport and Ratcatcger genuinely connecting to each other without some hamfisted joke. I loved that!
