    I think what makes Bloodsports nanotech also good is that in the comics the character can teleport everything he wants to his hands. So the movie putting a more realistic spin on things while also having the audience see every bit of the tech unfold is great. Even better that we know it's limited and accented by a practical suit.

    • @CrazyManwich
      @CrazyManwich Год назад +205

      It could have still been teleported as it just comes from a hidden storage site and still has a limit. However the nanotechnology provides a better visual so I like the change.
      I also like how he combines smaller weapons to make larger ones.

    • @danielotero9038

      @unionvsvegeta If you know firearm, you will understand that a gun that can transform itself into 10 other classes of small-arm is MEGA overpowered. He could be shooting a pistol then whips out another nanotech extension and now he has a MANPAD.

      imo the tele weapons is significantly more unique then nano tech, and it would give way to using physical props over cg

      I always liked the tech from ultraviolet most. They had these devices they could wear that were like basically pocket dimensions so they could carry whole arsenals inside wristwatches and the weapons also "unfold" or like if she needed to reload it would show bullets coming out of the devices feeding into her guns

      I love the concept of the nano weapons. Even more so bc every single one of them were locked and loaded.
      But bc I'm a simple guy I found it wasteful that he kept ditching his weapons whenever they ran out of ammo instead of just reloading.
      Dudes got fourteen weapons strapped to him. He could've easily just had a bunch of nano bullet magazines loaded on top of all that. But that's just me.

    • @simj202
      @simj202 Год назад +83

      @@furionmax7824 From a cinematic standpoint, it is possible that Gunn didn't want to show him reloading with nanotech because there was no way to make it look cool and physical, like one would easily be able to with real guns.
      From an in-universe standpoint, it's probably just because he has no space or time to reload properly. If I'm remembering right, he doesn't just ditch them, too. They get knocked out of his hands most of the time, I think?

    • @furionmax7824
      @furionmax7824 Год назад +36

      @@simj202 reloading due to time is very understandable especially when there's no cover and you got starfish alien face huggers attacking you. A miniscule pause barely a second long can mean death in a fight.
      But like I said. I'm a simple guy. I like using the same weapon in my loot and shoot games. To me its better to have one weapon with a shit ton of magazines than multiple weapons with one magazine each.
      But then again it ain't practical if that weapon is taken, lost or destroyed. In bloodsports case he has a weapon for every scenario. And that's why he's the best at what he does.

    • @Zenn_Chan
      @Zenn_Chan Год назад +15

    I just love how his nanotech feels more grounded and somewhat more comprehensible than most nanotech depictions in movies these days. You see them condensed in separate small pieces that are planted all across his body and when they're activated you know where they're coming from, they don't just spawn from out of the blue. The textures also look more mechanical instead of the usual liquid/holographic mesh we see with other heroes, it feels like a first gen nanotech and I think that's really cool

      Also another complaint i had from the first movie was how they race-swapped Deadshot’s character. Now i used to watch Arrow and the actor who played Deadshot was fucking spot on i thought they were gonna cast him but no they gave it to will smith. Now I love Will Smith as an actor and genuinely kind person (most of the time), but I personally felt he should’ve played Black Spider like the animated Suicide Squad:Arkham Assault movie. I love that when he makes the big gun, you realize that he's at the end of the line. Nothing could be bigger, nothing a worse threat--his tech is either a weapon OR armor. If he uses it for offense, he becomes extremely vulnerable, something we see moments later when he is running out of nanites. Also watching him then reach around in desperation to find any last amount of tech...but there's none left, you feel that moment so hard. His best weapon wasn't enough, and that gambit cost him, very nearly, his life. He ends up without offense or defense left, and he just tackles the first person he can to try and go down without giving up.
    PERFECTO!!!

From a narrative standpoint it allows for the writers and stunt designers to have the hero carrying an entire back of tricks without needing to worry about having your actor carry an arsenal, or somehow taking a trip back to his armory between scenes, or handwaving with an animator's back pocket. Plus you can sell the desperation of the circumstances by taking those tools away from him.

    Honestly Iron Man is the only character in the MCU where nanotech actually works like it should, with Spiderman being a distant second.
    The very first time we saw him use Nanotech was in Civil War as nothing more than a transforming wristband; a proof of concept for Tony to build on.
    Next time we see it he's developed an entire suit with nanotech that does its job, but has an issue with long-term use since he can't easily refill his nanobots.
    Then we see him incorporate energy projectors for things like shields and weapons, letting him use his nanotech more sparingly.
    Ironman's tech always felt realistic because we saw his progression. Every time a new advancement was made, the seeds for that advancement were already visible beforehand.
    Spiderman is only second place because his nanotech is the direct result of Ironman.

    I’m fine with nanotech when it fits the character like Ironman where at the end of his story he creates his ultimate suit that can adapt to any situation or with Bluebeetle where the point of his suit is alien and a hyper advanced killing machine and his arc is more learning to control the suit.

    It works in Suicide Squad because of the equipment placed around his body, that we are more convinced that this COULD be possible, whereas the Marvel variety.... feels like magic. yeah, there were some big things that really worked in F&TWS, and Falcons suits were definitely part of it. Edit: Also for favorite nanotech hero, can it be comic-book superior Iron Man? He's not my favorite hero, nor my favorite hero who uses nanotech but my favorite use of nanotech. It's technically not nanotech, actually, but a synthetic symbiote that he created, removing its weakness to sound and fire, that basically functions like a mixture of a symbiote, bleeding edge armor, and his classic drone suits with nobody inside

  • @Foxster_13
    @Foxster_13 Год назад +19

    I can't remember if you mentioned this, but I think the reason why I like it the most is probably because Bloodsports Nano-tech isn't one whole thing like Iron Man, Thor, or Spider-man, instead it's parts of his suit that he has to individually grab, which takes time, which ties into what you said about him being skilled but also defeatable opponent, plus similar to Iron Man's suit having a limoted amount of nano-tech, if he loses those parts off his suit, he's pretty defenceless. It would be cool to see bloodsport and Deadshot in a potential third Suicide Squad film, where, similar to the second film, there are perhaps two teams. Maybe they have to go up against each other, and the one who squad wins gets so many years off their sentence.
    Will that happen with Smith's reputation at the moment? I'm not sure, as I don't think he's actually been "cancelled," but is just in everyone bad books. Hopefully, he gets his life together because he's genuinely a great actor, and he and Margot Robbie in the first Suicide Squad were the best thing about that film. But I am glad that they didn't recast him. Of course, this was before all the drama, but still, they could have recasted Deadshot.
    Anyway, I really enjoyed the video of a surprisingly underrated film. Everyone I've talked to or watched has said it's a good film, but no one really spoke about it when it first came out.

    To me what makes nanotech work is the equilibrium between versatility and fragility, I like when it seems weaker than a regular shield or weapon. That's why in infinity war works so well, with chunks of the iron man suit flying off and the remaining suit continuously reconfiguring itself around the character. And with bloodsport is similar, watching how the helmet breaks when he crashes with a wall or how he runs out of weapons. Now in the MCU nanotech is only used to have a helmet that you don't have to carry around when you are not wearing it.

    • @johnpayne5590
      @johnpayne5590 Год назад

      it makes sense. I feel that nanotech should be versatile and strong, but not too strong. It also shouldn't be too durable, as it is just a bunch of tiny parts linked together.
      Whereas a whole full made suit would be generally more durable, a nanotech suit would have better regenerative capabilities.
      However if you have both, you could have nanotech repair the normal suit, albeit slower.

    you're very right on all points, but 6:16 where you talk about how they appear, really seeing the engineering of them is so true, it strikes such a good divide between the legendary first iron man suit up, seeing all the technology and nano tech itself, well done!!
    Another point, what's good with the whole movie compared to almost any marvel disney movie is that the armour looks dirty, muddy, broken at times, it looks like it's really been used, really taken a beating and the use of all of the gloominess in some of the scenes, the desaturation of some of it, it truly looks so realistic, unlike marvel where it's too focused on looking glamourous taking away from the realism of it. suicide squad did so well because it's desaturated, darker in colour, the suits, the characters, they aren't designed to be likable or perfect, but flawed, dirty and realistic. alongside the better realism of the engineering of bloodsport as well as everything else using less cgi than stuff like thor love and war, it looks so broody and mature, unlike a pathetic children's attempt at action. essentially maybe it's too different age ranges, but it being more for teenagers where marvel is toned down for children, you can really see the effect

      I don't think anyone is sick of the MCU...we're sick of political messages and agendas taking precedence over the story and we're also sick of the butchering of past characters in order to replace them with "strong female" counterparts.
      They somehow managed to waste Benedict Cumberbatch...who I believe was the de facto big name after Iron Man and Captain America died. They made Dr. Strange a buffoon.
      Mark Ruffalo's Banner/Hulk never got the attention and writing he deserved. That man can act as showcased in the 5 minute introductory scene in Avengers 2012. There were surprisingly some good tidbits in Age of Ultron too...but then they just tamed him (with IW dropping the ball on that front).
      They also made a joke of the smaller, but still great characters like Hawkeye(and let's not forget how they also butchered Vincent D'Onofrio's legendary Kingpin), Black Widow, Wanda, Bucky, War Machine...HULK....and the list goes on.
      And like that wasn't enough...they also brought over characters like Daredevil and Kingpin from the Netflix shows (that were beyond fantastic...Daredevil is above everything in the MCU story wise IMO) and reduced them to petty jokes.
      I too hope DC is going to bring a new era of good stories. Gunn has shown that he knows how to intertwine good drama with good comedy, though I do hope not every movie/series will follow that formula.
      Not all characters are meant for it. If he(and his peers) can separate and identify what characters fit in what category and what type of story they need to mesh with said characters, they're going to succeed. I believe The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker are examples that the potential is there.

    One issue with nanotech in movies is that it often doesn't respect physics with respect to things like gravity or conservation of mass, as though it were a hologram rather than nanotech. So at the end of a piece of nanotech armor disappearing, a chunk of metal is just floating in, and disappearing into, thin air.
