The most awkward thing about Casper just staring closely at Kat is. He could easily go invisible to her living sight without her noticing. Him choosing to be remained seen by her is a T stance move on his part. 😄
I believe another movie explained that Casper’s uncle’s aren’t really his uncle’s. Just ghost that decided to take him in as their nephew/servant. Pretty sure the idea for the uncles was basically imagine that the three stooges as ghost. Pretty sure the concept was made even earlier in the 80s in a Scooby Doo special called Scooby Doo and the Boo Brothers. Can’t say for sure, but maybe they were the inspiration for the uncles.
When I was a kid, during Halloween, this would play on TV more than the nightly news lol I loved the Uncles, just unapologetic mischievous jerks, it was great
I don’t think Casper was threatening to kill Vic, I think he was implying that this guy is SUCH a zero, he makes Kat want to kill herself. Like he’s saying “Isn’t this guy a buzzkill?”
This movie should be earned with many credits. It was the first movie to have the main lead CGI, the first movie to have the CG models perfectly capture human emotions, and the first movie to have more CG shots than Jurassic Park and T2. Most of the movie's reviews focused less on the story and more on the effects. But months before Toy Story came out. And when Toy Story came out, people forgot about the friendly ghost pretty quickly.
They started playing this movie on ABC Family, which turned into Freeform during October Season, much like Hocus Pocus (1993) it got away with a lot of dark humor that would never fly well in modern times. 😅

It’s really sad and I haven’t watched this movie since I was like eight, but its sad that he was drunk and died, and most likely he was drinking to mourn about his dead wife.
lowkey this film has held up pretty damn well. Aside from a couple of dated references, it's still a legit charming family film with a decent story behind it & sweet performances.
I love this movie so much. Stretch is the best. He's like Moe and Joe Pesci combined lol. Also, Kat's mom is an angel, and the trio really DID know her and meant it when Stinky said "She was always an angel to me." they kept their word and had her talk to them.
Kats dad ain't doing nothing, he seems more like a delusional squatter waiting for the check to clear, supposedly he's interacting with ghosts for a living, but when he first sees Casper(an actual ghost mind you) he freaks the hell out and runs away. So what was he doing every other time?
“Can I keep you” was not the original line. Also I think the line (can I keep you) was intended to be scary based off the what the original line was. The original was “I’m going to keep you.” Devon Sawa explains that he said the line wrong on his Instagram account.
It’s actually insane how the “can I keep you” and “I’m going to keep you” is meant to be possessive, yet the one in film comes across much more endearing in comparison. Honestly what a perfect mistake lol
@@jiovanysoltero923 There was supposed to be with Simon Wells (director of Balto and Prince of Egypt) to write and direct in 1999. But after A Spirited Beginning and Meets Wendy's poor reviews and video sales, Universal was convinced nobody wanted a sequel and cancelled it in 2000. There was talks of a reboot in 2010 by Steven Spielberg but died when DreamWorks acquired the rights two years later. Talks of an animated movie came and went. And in 2022 there was a talk of an ultra gritty romantic teen drama series for Peacock that would be inspired by Riverdale, but nothing new about it ever since it's announcement.
The Pink Popcast covered this a few days ago. It's nice to see you all reviewing this take on the Friendly Ghost. I can't wait to see if you'll cover 'Casper: A Spirited Beginning' & 'Casper Meets Wendy'.
Damn! I did not remember half of this creepy stuff. In my mind they just kind of rocked up on an old house and they found lovesick innocent little Casper there. This film just could not be made today.
The bit where they complain about the class showing up to the mansion for the Halloween gets explained in a deleted scene. Kat was supposed to mention it to her dad earlier in the film and he ends up fairly okay with it.
There was talk of one back in 2020 for Peacock. And would've been inspired by Riverdale as a dark, gritty portrayal. And would've made Casper a highschooler with somebody moving to town while uncovering a dark secret in the town of Eternal Falls. And said that Casper will have friends with benefits. (I'm guessing Casper loves the girl they moved to town, died and then came back as a ghost through the will of love.) Which if that's that premise is real then that's terrible. Thankfully we haven't heard anything about it since it's announcement. No release date, no director, or cast. It was quietly scrapped.
@@mikejohnson1765 The original 3 shorts from the 40s are in the public domain but because Universal bought the rights of the character in 1989, they still have ownership to the character until it expires decades later. (Rights issues are complicated.)
I think the reason Kat’s mom looks more human is cause she passed on. Maybe once a ghost passes on, they become something more and are fundamentally different from ghosts lingering on Earth. Also it's a call back to what he said to her earlier in the movie as a ghost and I don't think anyone's going to be thinking there was anything creepy about that since there was physically nothing possible they could do @@michaelstrong5383
What's wrong with it? Do you remember when he said it earlier to the movie to cat question mark it was just a call back
When I watched this as a kid, it was explained to me that Casper meant he wanted to kiss her.
That was my part as a kid. I wanted someone to love me like Casper lol. Sad
With Halloween happening this week. Reviewing Casper was an interesting choice.
The most awkward thing about Casper just staring closely at Kat is. He could easily go invisible to her living sight without her noticing. Him choosing to be remained seen by her is a T stance move on his part. 😄
“Casper The Freaky Ghost” 🎶
I believe another movie explained that Casper’s uncle’s aren’t really his uncle’s. Just ghost that decided to take him in as their nephew/servant. Pretty sure the idea for the uncles was basically imagine that the three stooges as ghost. Pretty sure the concept was made even earlier in the 80s in a Scooby Doo special called Scooby Doo and the Boo Brothers. Can’t say for sure, but maybe they were the inspiration for the uncles.
I love the Boo Brothers. One of my favorite Scooby-Doo specials.
The cgi is so good in this movie. I love how translucent they made Casper 😊
For a movie that’s nearly 30 years old the cgi effects have hold up pretty decently.
They do.
Better than Toy Story even.
LMFAO I love you guys. I grew up with this movie. It’s one of my favorite movies, but you’re making me look at a whole new light. 😅
I am so happy you guys reviewed this!
They started playing this movie on ABC Family, which turned into Freeform during October Season, much like Hocus Pocus (1993) it got away with a lot of dark humor that would never fly well in modern times. 😅
can i keep you?
IN MY BASEMENT!
PUT THE LOTION IN BASKET!
Ironically, I was watching this while they were reviewing it yesterday. I had no idea they were going to review it on the Sunday Service! I love this film. It's not great, but I like it, and watch it every October, part of my Halloween movie line-up.

Just found out Casper is in the public domain. So now, you can make your own Casper the creepy stalker movie.
Yeah I'd rather not. People tried making horror movies with Winnie The Pooh, and people were rightfully pissed off about it.
I still think it's wild Deanna Oliver and Sherri Stoner wrote this.
If that's not ringing a bell, they were both writers for the original Animaniacs series. Sherri Stoner came up with and voiced Slappy the Squirrel. I also think it's cool Deanna Oliver is the voice of the Brave Little Toaster.
Man, when the father falls off the cliff at the bar, I was thinking to myself. Are they right next-door to the bar from Dusk Till Dawn
As great as it is when Billy cracks, nothing tops hearing and watching Martin lose it at 20:20 😂😂😂
40:22 omg Martin i love that explanation for the ghost designs. And honestly, it makes a lot of sense world building wise, cause if they’ve been ghosts for a long time and lost their memories of everyone and everything in their previous life,it only seems natural that you’d also lose your own identity and original appearance.
I love Casper growing up. I had this movie on VHS and DVD.
that toxic uncle-nephew dynamic is pretty much how you get a weird, awkward stalker like casper, tho
Words don't describe how much I love this movie to this day, honestly. LOL it's not... perfect, but man it's nostalgic. "Can I keep you?"
Let’s be real, the man was a grieving nomad con artist that bragged his daughter with him😂
“Can I keep you” was not the original line. Also I think the line (can I keep you) was intended to be scary based off the what the original line was. The original was “I’m going to keep you.” Devon Sawa explains that he said the line wrong on his Instagram account.
I saw that 😂 the voice of Casper, Malachi Petersen, also preferred Devons line so he changed it when he did the scene 😂 I love it.
It’s actually insane how the “can I keep you” and “I’m going to keep you” is meant to be possessive, yet the one in film comes across much more endearing in comparison. Honestly what a perfect mistake lol
Loved this movie as a kid, didn't notice the innuendos until I was an adult (which can be said for a lot of 90's family movies).
Cathy Moriarty comes back as a different character in casper meets wendy, with a tiny Hilary Duff
I felt betrayed when Casper met Wendy.
Should of went with a sequel and not a small reboot
This movie depressed me so much as a kid
Damn Martin need to be an writer. He's got ideas
The Pink Popcast covered this a few days ago. It's nice to see you all reviewing this take on the Friendly Ghost. I can't wait to see if you'll cover 'Casper: A Spirited Beginning' & 'Casper Meets Wendy'.
I love Pink Popcast!! I watched that and it made me rewatch all the movies and the old cartoons.
I was 7 when this movie came out, and I had such a crush on 12 year old human Casper 😅. Such a great film.
I was about to say the ghosts in this film look more like they’ve been ripped straight out of Luigi’s mansion💚👻🔥🤣🤣
LMAO
I've saw this movie so many times as a kid and even a few times as an adult. I did not realize how creepy Casper was in it. 😂
Damn! I did not remember half of this creepy stuff. In my mind they just kind of rocked up on an old house and they found lovesick innocent little Casper there. This film just could not be made today.
I absolutely love Casper. This movie came out when I was 6, and it still holds up.
The bit where they complain about the class showing up to the mansion for the Halloween gets explained in a deleted scene. Kat was supposed to mention it to her dad earlier in the film and he ends up fairly okay with it.
I remember being at summer camp and them bringing us to see this I was 8 man how time flies
31:50 Good callback Martin!😂
My childhood movie 😂😂
They used the name HARVEY as an homage to The HARVEY TOONS Company who were responsible for the classic CASPER Animated Shorts 😃🤘😃🤘
I’m surprised there’s no modern adaptation or reboot of Casper.
Huh, you're right. Considering Casper is in the public domain, there should be no problem.
They try in the comics. The best one came out a few years back called Casper and the Spectrals.
As for the fairy god mother powers…I don’t know God gave her a phoenix down or something to bring Casper back
Ricci would just a few years later do a film called Buffalo '66 where she is kidnapped and forced to pretend to be a criminals GF... lol
Casper TheThristy Ghost
I remembered watching this Casper movie at the drive-in theater and the Casper movie with Hilary Duff as Wendy
This had three movies.
My sis loved this film growing up... although i think cause she had a crush on stan i mean devon sawa
