    I started listening to Soundgarden around 1992. I'm 45 years old, been a music lover since I was a small child, listen to all kinds of genres, and I believe Chris Cornell is one of the greatest of all-time if not THE greatest.

    Yes, Chris Cornell has the greatest voice in rock history.
    My father died when I was a teenager. Cornell’s music helped me through the next several years of my life, it me from spiraling more than I did.
    Until Cornell died, I had never understood what people were talking about when they had an emotional reaction to the death of a celebrity. I couldn’t listen to anything of his for about a year without tearing up.

    • @shma1israel
      @shma1israel 2 года назад +6

      I'm still tearing up when I'm not careful. I was shocked by some prior celebrity deaths, but none felt as painful as Chris passing. And apart from that, I'm in my 50s, I've listened to literally all kinds of rock music and hundreds of singers, and Chris was the best, no question. There were some who were more *important* for the history of rock singing, like Ozzy, Freddy Mercury, and David Bowie (to name just three), but only Chris' voice could touch me like it did. He was the GOAT. There are three other singers that can make me as emotional, though, all of them are women: Björk, Ninet Tayeb, and Suzuka Nakamoto. Brad & Lex will get to them in due time, I'm patient.

    This is actually my most favorite song in the world, EXCEPT only the live version. This studio version is fine, but the live versions of this song are different and experiencing them live is even better. This is actually the last song they played in concert shortly before Chris's death. RIP dear Chris. They often played it as an encore song. It makes me feel like I'm a dragon bounding from one mountain top to another. Powerful, beasty and free... lol. One of the first songs I heard of Soundgarden's was in 1989, "Loud Love," and the intro starts with some screech-y guitar that turns into Chris's voice. It blew my mind. I was a diehard fan since. Matt Cameron's drumming also changed my world. Some people keep time on drums, Matt makes music and paints pictures.

    Definitely one of the top 5 SoundGarden songs … check out :” H.I.V BABY! By them .But check out Chris Cornell’s vocals on “ Say hello to Heaven “ by Temple of the dog …and I agree with Lex : Chris was and still is the best … RIP Mr Cornell.

    Went absolutely crazy when this album came out, still one of my favorites of all time. Felt like I was listening to it for the first time again, thank you for that! I also have a request for you two if you have the time for it; Kingston Wall - Nepal. Drums are insane on that, and their jamming is out of this world. Less known band, but they are a hidden gem many are missing on.

    This album from Soundgarden is truly amazing and this is my favorite song. Put this on driving down the road and I'm head banging and getting weird looks. Chris Cornell can be put in legionary status with his voice. 🤘💥🤘

    Soundgarden - like suicide, searching with my good eye closed, room a thousand years wide, loud love, hands all over, fell on back days, 4th of July.....just to name a few of my favorites 🤘🙂🤘

    I was fortunate enough to see Soundgarden play live at large clubs, a couple of times before they’d gotten famous, and the thing about Chris Cornell, is he sounded that good live. That whole band was amazing, but his vocals always stood out.

    'always felt this was Chris' best vocal performance/recording since first listen back in the early 90s.
    A crazy blend of absolute control and pushing vocals where you shouldn't. It's so unfortunate his voice was damaged for so many other albums

    Chris's either a capella, acoustic or heavy as hell had a beast of a range. I was a goth girl studying opera when I first heard "Jesus Christ Pose" by Soundgarden; obsessed ever since. Maynard, Lane and Chris..no one can touch them vocally!

    I was lucky enough to see Soundgarden live back in 1992 at a venue called the Institute in Birmingham when they toured the UK for the "Badmotorfinger" album back in 1992 when I was 19. One of the best gigs of the early 90's I went to. Up there with Jane's Addiction, Faith No More and Nine Inch Nails, all of whom I saw several times each between 1990 and 1994. All incredible live. Soundgarden were immense at that show. They were supported by a band called Corrosion of Conformity who were also fantastic. You should check those guys out at some point too.

    Cornell definitely has one of the greatest Rock voices ever. Even people who are not fans of his bands recognize that. He also has the widest octave range of any I believe, as well as the best control of that range.

    Part of this album was recorded up the street from where I live in the Seattle metro area. I actually grew-up in Michigan, a guy I knew as an acquaintance back there named Mark Dancey designed Soundgarden's album covers. He ran a fanzine and played in two key bands in the 80s out of Michigan - Born Without a Face and later Big Chief. Big Chief were signed to Sub Pop Records out here in Seattle in the very early 90s. Incidentally, Maynard James Keenan from Tool also grew-up in Michigan, he was a big fan of Born Without A Face. Soundgarden actually opened this tour on Halloween night 1991 at St Andrew's Hall in Detroit because they liked to play there. The underground rock/punk/metal scene was a very tight-knit scene before it went mainstream, felt as though everyone knew each other and for the most part, we all did meet each other at some point.
    About 12 years ago I was at a bar in the Georgetown neighborhood of Seattle. There was a recording studio in the back room of the bar and Soundgarden bassist Ben Shepherd was recording an album there at the time. He's spend the night there during the week when sessions went long, the owner of the bar took me back there one night and there were all of these mannequins all over, LOL. Really interesting. FYI - Ben Shepherd wrote the riff for "Slaves & Bulldozer"
