I like Kim, but he's kind of in the shitty position of just being a lead guitarist in a band that doesn't always have a lot of big solos. While they all contributed to writing the songs, Chris was the most creative force, and he was also an excellent guitarist himself.

@@endocry well I could be wrong, but at the time (I’m of the age ha) this was current, I thought his somewhat understated guitar style was by design. If you don't understand the musical term, at the start of the song count out the beats in the riff - it's 7 not the typical 4 or 8 of just about any other song. They might be the most famous band out there that did that kind of thing (and it's not just this song, it's in a lot of their work). Very unique.

not sure why but this version is missing the best verse:
"Well someone let the dogs out
They'll show you where the truth is
    The grass is always greener
    Where the dogs are shitting"

Lexington, you listen to music (especially Cornell ) exactly like I do...head bobbin, eyes closed, wrinkled nose and swaying shoulders. Feeling the whole song!

That is Eddie Vedder doing backing vocals on the chorus btw. This was when Eddie came to Seattle from California to be the new singer for Mother Love Bone, but they decided to change the name tp Pearl Jam when Eddie joined. Pearl Jam is basically a supergroup of Sound Garden and Mother Love Bone. The Drummer for Soundgarden ended up joining Pearl Jam later on.

You should react to Mad Season - Wake Up, it's got Layne Staley from Alice In Chains & Mike McCready from Pearl Jam, it's a whole vibe.
Also, theres an Alice In Chains & Chris Cornell collab, it's called "Right Turn", great song =)

I was at concert in Irvine Meadows CA back in the early nineties and I'm paraphrasing here, but he said "A lot of people ask me who this song is for, well you know all the people who have our shirts and albums and front row to all our concerts? This song is for everyone else". To which a mass of drunk and sunburnt people began to cheer.

I love your reactions to music that i love. I sense that you also learn a new band's history as you become more familiar with their music. One thing to know about Soundgarden - they were the first of the Seattle / grunge bands to get a major record deal. While Nirvana, Alice in Chains, and Pearl Jam were promoting their debut albums, Soundgarden already had 2 full albums and 2 EPs released. "Outshined" is actually off their 3rd album - "Badmotorfinger" - a great album!!! But there are dozens of great Soundgarden songs off their previous recordings that few fans / reactors seem to pay attention to - and i would urge you to check out some of their early songs - some of my favorites are: "GUN, BEYOND THE WHEEL, I AWAKE, and LOUD LOVE." You get a sense from where "grunge" originates.

Chris Cornell was a diamond in the rough of the city of Seattle. He battled depression for years and eventually took his own life! So sad a man that seemingly had everything was down in a hole of depression. Just goes to show, you can have everything family wife, living rockstar life, money and he was still left unfulfilled. Money and stardom are not everything folks! R.I.P. CHRIS CORNELL!!

Back in the wayyyy early 90s there was a 3 week period where i got Tool Opiate or Undertow, Alice In Chains Facelift, and Soundgarden Badmotorfinger to add to Nirvana, Jane’s Addiction ( Ritual ) and Rage. All of them within a one year period. I would love to have another year like that musically but the chances of it happening are conservatively about 0.0 percent. Listening to these 2 react takes me back to that year if only for a while. Awesome.

He had to be the best front man in rock (IMO) when you factor range, power, soul and charisma. He just inhabited the song. Some of their best tracks that you haven't hit are Burden in My Hand, My Wave, Blow Up the Outside World, Spoonman and Slaves and Bulldozers.
