This is metal. The labels just slapped that made up term on all those bands from that time and place, but they all had their own sound and hated that fake label.
AIC is a rock/metal band. That "grunge" tag wasn't any band's idea. That was media/MTV stuff. Trust me from here in Seattle NO ONE used that term. But hey, if it helps point new listeners to other bands then oh well, OK. Yes, "Them Bones" definitely grabs you.
STOP ! You guys have to react to Alice in Chains - LOVE HATE LOVE - Live at the Moore. You will hear an amazing performance from the late Lane Staley. The pain in his voice will be felt by you.
I concur. Another song in which the pain is visceral-in both the vocals and the guitar-is Fleetwood Mac - “I’m So Afraid” - Live, 1980, Cleveland. I am a connoisseur of beautiful pain.
Love that you guys are becoming metalheads and appreciating rock music I’m 58 years old and I’ve been listening to this shit my whole life and I was so fortunate to grow up during the 70s and 80s best rock music ever hands down! I hate being as old as I am, but I wouldn’t change the time that I grew up in for the world! We had a fucking blast in the 80s ! Peace and keep on rocking!
Man everyday I think about how i’d enjoy living in the 70s and 80s so much more than now lol. I’m 22 and i’ve been fortunate enough to have seen a fair amount of concerts from a lot of my favourite bands but I always think how much better it would be to be able to see these bands perform live in their prime.
I didn’t initially like Jerry much but the more i listen to AIC and pay attention to the guitar, I’m loving him more and more. His voice isn’t in Laynes realm but it is a nice mix with his.
AIC is part of the soundtrack to my teens. i so miss being in my teens, sitting and listening to them and other music of the time as it was released. very cool seeing younger people like ya'll getting thrilled listening to it.
This album is burned into my consciousness. I know exactly when and where I was in my life when I had this album on heavy repeat. It was an awesome time and every song on this album slams me right back there. The nostalgia is extreme. One of the best albums ever created with one of the best singers and one of the best guitarists to ever exist. One of the few albums I’d consider to be “perfect”, as in, there isn’t a single bad song on there.
Loved these boys. I remember sitting in Somalia in 93 listening to this album over and over. Gotta do rooster and junk head. Get into soundgarden they’re bad ass as well!!!
Ayeeee this was my recommendation! Appreciate yall 🙏 you got the joke too haha Bro’s explanation of dissonance/resolution was incredible too. You guys are a top tier reaction channel keep it up
Expanding your musical taste is just more for your mind, feelings and knowledge!!! You can still love your favorite Genre too! That is what's great about music? No one is trying to change you or compare what's better? It is just more music to love and enjoy. That's all?
Oh yeah, this is gonna be fun to watch. You cannot go wrong with AIC. Layne and Jerry's harmonization is so good, especially with the hard grunge rock behind it.
“Them bones” popped up in my algorithm The day after my hip replacement surgery. And that is how I became a fan of Alice in chains. Rest in peace, Layne and Mike. Y’all are adorable ..reminds me of my sons friends.
The greatest rock band and Lead Singer of all time imo.. Request: "Down in a hole".. "Man in a box".. Those are their other 2 biggest hits.. it's only the tip of the iceberg
Given the song is about Andrew Wood’s (Would?) accidental heroin overdose in March 1990, the line “have I run too far to get home?” is tragically poetic.
Nutshell, Rotten Apple, Them Bones, Rooster, Would? Sludge Factory, Heaven Beside You, Frogs, Dam that River, Rain When I Die, Bleed The Freak. ^ Imo Alice in Chains best songs and essential music history. Also check out Nutshell live and unplugged. Possibly the greatest live music performance of all time. Wicked reaction, my guy had some deep revelations.. Subbed.
You definitely got me believing you're turning into a metalhead and if you're faking you do a damn good job at it pull up your guyses reactions keep it up
First time on your channel and I'll be back for more. My favorite AIC song and love watching you guys discover this. Not one for labels, but this shit is grunge!
I was in high school when this was out. Lots of stoned nights with headphones listening to this and so many other great bands. The good ol days right? You guys should check out the song What The Hell Have I?
The growth of rock music derived from black singers and groups putting a upbeat edge into the music but the roots come from black soul music be proud of what started this genre of music
Always glad to see somebody appreciating some AIC! Give "Down in a Hole" from the legendary MTV Unplugged performance a shot when you get the chance, assuming you haven't done so already.
I've been paying attention to the music you guys have been checking out. I'm really loving it. Now you're checking out Alice In Chains? Shit, I'm in. Subbed.
its refreshing to see u guys like what i grew up with if u want something to blow ur mind thats fairly recent slaughter to prevail viking...make sure u wearing a helmut lol

You gotta go down the AIC rabbit hole.
Agreed!
fr
Yes please!! I would watch! Already subscribed
I second this!
I third this!
He understands. Dissonance and resolution. Tension and release. The brain loves it.
THIS!! Subscribed IMMEDIATELY! I fk with anyone that gets it. So refreshing.
Yeah and super-point they make on the "flatness" of a bunch of other stuff.
All about the push/pull, peaks and troughs.
came here because i knew someone before me noticed that exactly.
Man, I have to say that this young man not only got it but showed an amazing amount of depth.
Perfect response 💯
Down in a hole , man in the box , love hate love , rain when I die , them bones , nutshell , rooster , heaven beside you , rotten apple , and dirt .
Then dive deeper. Angry Chair, Sunshine, Brother, Got Me Wrong
And Sea of Sorrow, what the hell have i, Dont Follow, Bleed the Freak, and No Excuses
Lots of great songs listed and but I’d add Junkhead too
over now
4:40 honestly that is one of the most profound moments I have witnessed watching reactors, and I agree 100%
agreed, even the discussion after was wildly profound.
This is Grunge! Them Bones is the first song on this album ( Dirt ) and it will grab you 🔥

@@wordup897idk about metal
By claiming this is grunge you clearly betray the fact that you know nothing about music.
I've paid a request for Man in the Box - can't wait for you guys to get to it
Followed by a good Love Hate Love.
Worst song ever made in my opinion

I hate that song! Love AIC but never liked it!

Totally Agree!
"The pain in his voice" cringe

R.I.P Layne
‘“It Ain’t Like That” should be the next one.
Great recommendation man.

I'm right here with ya, I'm 59..and love TuPac, Geto Boys and all this hard rock.
I'm 57. It so weird to know that I'll be a headbanger when I'm 90 if I live that long. What a crazy sight!
You guys really get this shit man. Mad respect
I saw Alice in Chains open for Ozzy Osborne in the early 90’s at Sky Dome in Toronto. They were excellent live.
Saw that same show and ozzfest 97/98 and fell in love with AIC and Tool at ozzfest miss the days of $20 GA tickets lmao
Lucky
My man on the left just taking it all in 🤘🤘🤘
90's anthem!!!!!!!!
Your comment about "resolution" is really thought-provoking!!
"A Little Bitter" "I Stay Away" "Rain When I Die" "Head Creeps" "Am I Inside" and so many other Alice in Chains songs are truly amazing.
Jerry and Layne’s harmonies were epic
The drums the guitar and laynes voice melt together to become so frkn great
I didn’t initially like Jerry much but the more i listen to AIC and pay attention to the guitar, I’m loving him more and more. His voice isn’t in Laynes realm but it is a nice mix with his.
Rain When I Die
It Ain’t Like that
Bleed the Freak
Dam That River
💯🔥🔥🔥
Dissonance and resolution is a great observation. Now try to see that same thing reflected in multiple time signatures in the same song.
And how this resolves on a major chord in the last chorus. Great insight.
“We die young”
“Angry chair”
Them Bones should be next AIC-Turn it UP for this one-it has a kinda quiet beginning😉💪🫡✌️
Fantastic rec
I see what you're doing there 🤣

Love your take on the dissonance vs resolution, metal has helped me face my anger/get through it in a healthy way.
Greatest band of the 90s! Check out the whole facelift and dirt albums

@4:10 Bro is making a pretty profound statement. "There's so much dissonance, but it comes with a resolution."

As soon as that opening bassline hits, it's all over. 😂 AIC are a no skips band.
It's one of the best songs out of the nineties. It's literally perfect as hard rock songs go.
Been addicted to this entire album since release .. 💯☑️
Its about Andrew Wood from Mother Love Bone. He was their singer and a big player in the Seattle sound that exploded out of there in the late 80s.
