YES... We old school Metalheads love Chris Cornel. He not only had an amazing vocal tone, he also had amazing voice control, intonation, vibrato, and huge lungs. He could hold a note forever and then do a killer vocal lick at the very end when most pro singers would be gasping for air. Plus, his music & lyric writing was stellar. He wrote very honest lyrics. Those Seattle guys were all great at putting their real feelings in their lyrics. They weren't afraid to be vulnerable cause they knew that true art requires true emotions.

Joseph Blumenberg Eddie Vedder was not part of temple of the dog at all!! He was on that song alone.. the band is Chris with most of Pearl Jam. They were formed before Pearl Jam ever even existed. Get your facts straight
That sound you're hearing is "distortion." From the grunge era along with Nirvana, Alice in Chains, etc. Another great Chris Cornell group is Audioslave. A good song by them is "Show Me How To Live." Its HOTT!! (Ryan voice) lol. Great review!!
Rick Beato just made a video about this song and how it's structured. And what a rock god Cornell is. Check it out. It is in 7/4 time, which Rick breaks down the voice, the drums, bass, and guitars. It's perfect.
@@richardgriego42 You are so welcome. Let me know if you have trouble finding it since he doesn't list the name of the song. I have it saved and can link it.
Matt Cameron is probably the most, and i mean truly, underrated drummer of his generation. just because he wasn't all over the place like other ones he went overlooked by fans outside the musicians.
Dude! You guys need to review. When I’m Down live at troubadour. Trust me all the fans want to see you do that and you will not be disappointed. Cheers from Henderson Green Valley.
"Wood" is an excellent song!! Layne's voice is really showcased in this one. The whole song is strong from beginning to end. One of my favorites for sure!!
I appreciate the honesty. I was 15 and sober the first time I heard this. The hair on my arms stood straight up in the air and you could physically see the goose bumps on my arms! RIP THE GREAT CHRIS CORNELL! WE MISS YOU!
i saw Kim flick a lit cigarette butt like 20 feet up and bat it with his guitar neck into the audience without missing a lick. one of my favorite shows ever.
Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam once talked about going to see Soundgarden at some club and how they couldn't believe the amazing sound coming out of Chris Cornell's mouth! Unreal.
I think Ryan is referring to the rock/hard rock/metal usage of what is called 'power chords'. They'll often be played in sequence, as a melody, to form a riffs like in this song. More technical explanation if you guys are interested in it: in acoustic or cleaner guitar styles you'll usually form chords with all or almost all strings and you'll tend to focus on mixing many different kinds of notes to get the 'coloration' of the chord - that is - minor, major, diminished, maj7th, etc... With heavier distortion the complicated chords are harder to distinguish and sound messy because they have too many different notes and overtones (some guitarists get away with it but it's harder) and so heavier rock guitar styles started focusing on single note sequences and chords with only 2 different notes, the tonic and the 5th, which is the bare minimum you can get away with and still call a chord. This development brought some unique characteristics to the style: * the power chord shape is very simple and easy move around the guitar neck, so it's often played in succession and with fast tempos * The A power chord (also written A5) is composed by the notes (A, E) . The chords for A major and A minor are composed by the notes (A, C#, E) and (A, C, E) respectively. This means that the power chord notes are present both the major (usually happy sounding) and the minor (usually sad sounding) chords, but it leaves out the 3rd which is the note that would give it it's coloration. This means that power chords are easier to play together and one after another because there's less musical information that can clash with each other. * It's so easy moving the power chord shape around that bands will often just play every note as a power chords for a fuller sound. A melody of B - D - D - E - E will often be played as B5 - D5 - D5 - E5 - E5 . In summary, this is a rock guitar kind of technique. This kind of riff is used heavily (pun intended) by most metal bands and was the signature sound of Tony Iommi from Black Sabbath, he was the absolute master of the riff.
Yeah syncopation is definitely part of it. I love how they break down and beat-box the rhythms, they have a way of showcasing how they groove and stuff.
Absolutely, the dropped tuning makes a huge difference. It becomes even easier to do power chords all over the neck and you get the extra lower notes on the guitar.
@@DenEz_TV No, man. Ryan loves it when a nice groove is brought back after a strong chorus and he often laughs when he hears a part that catches him off guard with how good it is.
We need some more Alice in Chains too, need some more grunge love hahaha. He's up there with Chris Cornell, one of the best vocalists period. All the big grunge singers have wonderful and unique voices.
At 8:52 ...bingo! Yes Cornell met every dictionary definition of a soul singer, but with some extra. Yes he “left this earth” often, and the last time much too soon. Good analysis of the meaning of California/Minnesota. All too true in his case.
Seriously Guy's you will absolutely love Show me how to Live..!!! among some other Audioslave tracks. Like A Stone, Be Yourself, I am the Highway, Cochise.
I’ve seen this video many times, your guy’s genuine reaction is why I come back to it. I’m wanting to educate you more on expanding your catalog with Chris Cornell here’s a list. For vocal power Slaves And Bulldozers -Soundgarden Beyond The Wheel -Soundgarden Birth Ritual -Soundgarden For vocal structure and range Like A Stone -Audioslave Say Hello 2 Heaven -Temple Of The Dog Steel Rain -Chris Cornell And for vocal creativity The Day I Tried To Live -Soundgarden Burden In My Hand -Soundgarden When I’m Down -Chris Cornell
Alice In Chains - Would? [please] Really enjoy your videos! It is interesting to see how you two come at all of these tunes I grew up listening to as a teen and as a young man...When I hear "outshined" I always think---"I've got nothing left to give" or "no more shine left in me"; so it was cool to here how you guys reflected on it. You also managed to pick out a few of the lyrics I don't think I'd ever really noticed all these years---the part where he says "I can't get any lower but still I feel I'm sinking". So thanks for that! On a side note, this tune in particular always felt very personal to me because I grew up in southern California my self, but both of my parents were from the iron range in Minnesota. When I hear that line, "I'm looking California and feeling Minnesota" I hear "I look alright, but I'm feeling cold" Anyway, that's my two-cents worth.
TheMightyOdin Easily his best vocal performance. That song is pure, unbridled emotion. It's also even more poingant, and somewhat eerie, even, since Cornell's passing. Anyone reading this who hasn't heard it should check it out immediately, then, come back and upvote this suggestion.
mixtand138 I played the song a few times in the days following his death. I was filled with such a sense of loss but also appreciated that I was fortunate enough to see Chris live multiple times with Soundgarden and Audio Slave. My first time seeing him live was in a small venue that held just a few hundred people. That was May of 1992 and I still have the ticket stub from that show. RIP Chris. Thanks for the memories.
Not my favorite, but one of them. Also a pretty good intro song to what the band is all about. Was discussing with a friend what song would have been better than "Jesus Christ Pose" since they seem to be so enamored with Alter Bridge, but didn't care for the Soundgarden song they initially listened to. Our picks were "Black Rain", "Outshined" and "Superunknown".
Trust this playlist...in no particular order.... 1. Soundgarden " The Day I Tried To Live" 2. Alice In Chains "It Ain't Like That " Singles release 3. Chris Cornell & Layne Staley "Right Turn" 4. Temple Of The Dog "Pushin Forward Back" 5. Pearl Jam "Dissident" or "Breathe" 6. Audioslave "Show Me How To Live" 7. Stone Temple Pilots "Wicked Garden" 8. Nirvana "In Bloom" .....and there is a very short list of phenomenal music for ALL to enjoy....
You probably didn't notice, but the main riff is in an odd time signature. They integrated them so perfectly into their songs that you weren't put off by them
i clicked on this video SO FAST !! love your channel,; love this song. CC’s voice is so strong - he could sing anything. truly. he could sing classic,; blues,; country,; rock you name it. his vocals are unmatched by most. he had a 5 octave range. he had his own versions of many songs that he made is own and are truly beautiful. chris had a beautiful soul. he was great and will truly be missed and no one can ever take his place. i think you’d also Black Hole Sun-and Spoonman-Burden in my Hand
Edward Hoffman We appear to be in the minority here (I always thought “Superunknown” is a tad overrated) but, I agree wholeheartedly, “Badmotorfinger” is straight awesome no chaser. Masterpiece.
Okay, Chris Cornell probably had in the top 5 vocalists in rock ALL TIME! Try Audioslave: GASOLINE. Cornell's shrieks and the the great drummingmakes the ultimate jam. RIP Chris.. We still miss you!
Just came here from your Cochise reaction. Love hearing your reactions to both of these. So dead on...."it sounds DIRTY"...lol. You hit the nail on the head! 🌸✌
You guys have to listen to Temple of the Dog “Hunger Strike” the group is a mixture of Sound Garden Specifically Chris Cornell and Pearl Jam. It is a great song with great meaning. Great reaction as always. You guys are so real!! Love it. Sound Garden and specifically Chris He was also in a group called Audioslave you would love their song I am a Highway.
The thing i love most about you guys is how you manage to go into every single song you review with a totally blank slate and open mind. In this day and age it is so damn refreshing to see two dudes manage that. No preconception, no prior judgement, just pure, honest opinion and analysis. Keep it on dudes.
I’m another old school metal fan and like this album by soundgarden and most Alice In Chains. I remember Soundgarden and Faith No More opening for prog metal pioneers Voivod.
Love Soundgarden, Audioslave , AIC...many others. Man I listen to everything...blues, Motown....the list goes on and on...if you say my collection you'd go Damn!..Peace..
I’m a rap guy now but growing up my dad introduced me to so many different genres of music that I love. 90’s alternative and this era is some of my favorite music ever. Love this song and the reaction!
I LOVE YOU GUYS ARE GROOVING TO AN ODD TIME SIGNATURE.----THAT IS A SOUNGARDEN TRICK---THEY FOOL THEIR LISTENER INTO FEELING IT IN 4/4. NOT EASY TO DO.
I have not been able to listen to Chris Cornell since his death. Thank you Gentlemen for honoring his memory and bringing me back a voice, talent and human being that brought so much happiness to all of his fans.
My introduction to the mighty SOUNDGARDEN! I first heard this in 1992 and I instantly fell in love with the band. That riff you like so well, Ryan? It's all about the drop-D tuning, baby! ;)
Rusty Cage, Fell On Black Days, Superunknown, Black Hole Sun, Spoonman, The Day I Tried To Live, Pretty Noose, Blow Up The Outside World, Burden In My Hand, & Live To Rise - Soundgarden
Yes!!!! Say Hello 2 Heaven is both lyrically & instrumentally genius. Based on a true story in tribute to his best friends, Andy Wood. He wrote the song (and Reach Down) to help him grieve his loss. 4 octave range showcased. Love you guys! So much fun!
Chris Cornell’s rendition of “Nothing Compares to You”, originally written by Prince and made famous by Sinead O’Conner is legit 100% unbelievable. Check it out fellas🙌
This is my new favorite RUclips channel. I love seeing people being introduced to old music for the first time. You guys have a true appreciation for all talent and are really, musically astute. Major props. I love the way you get excited for these songs. It reminds me of when I first heard them back in the early 90's. And yes, Cornell was very soulful. Much later on you could hear the soul and sometimes sadness in his voice, but delivered with such power and texture. Amazing. Check out his covers of Nothing Compares To You, Billie Jean, and Bob Marley's Redemption Song. Peace.
7/4 time "Outshined" was performed in drop D tuning. This song is in the key of D major. The verses are in , an unorthodox meter, common of some Soundgarden songs, such as "Spoonman", which is in 7/4, "Fell on Black Days", which is in 6/4, and "My Wave", which is in 5/4.
The sound is grunge. It's a dirty and low sound. I was lucky enough to see them twice, but I will always cherish the memories. Still one of my favorite bands, and Chris Cornell has (I won't use the past tense) one of the best voices in music. He did so much after Soundgarden as well. If you're going to keep giving them a listen, try "Room a Thousand Years Wide" and "Hands All Over". Such talented musicians period, all of them! R.I.P Chris Cornell. ✌❤
I’ve been on this planet for 47 years & have loved music for as long as I can remember ,I turned 21 in 1992 & was right in the middle of the last great rock revolution ,I love all kinds of music regardless of what genre it’s placed in,good music is just good music & I can tell you without a doubt that from 1989-94 Chris Cornell was the best singer on earth..listen to Temple of the Dog or Slaves & Bulldozers from this album if you don’t believe me
Also Chris Cornell did a song on the album Temple of the Dog. listen to Say Hello to Heaven. that song doesn't jam like Outshined but his vocals will blow you away
Anthony Sipes well actually Chris did all the songs on Temple of the dog as he was singer for that supergroup and wrote their songs together with Mike, Stone and Jeff from PJ and Matt from SG. As a matter of fact Temple of the dog was recorded to honour Andrew Woods, close friend of Chris and singer from Mother Love Bone a Seattle band Mike, Stone and Jeff were part of before Pearl Jam was born. That record is huge for any PJ, SG or Mother Love Bone fan and Eddie Vedder vocals on Hunger Strike are just the cherry on top of this sweet/sour 90's Seattle Rock story.
@@giorgiokwiatkowski5481 yes I know the whole story very well. I was just comparing his songs as a whole. I had mother love bone, Temple, sg, and pj cds growing up

Another reason why 1991 was basically the pinnacle for heavy rock music. So many great albums in various rock sub-genres overlapping, released just months, sometimes weeks apart.
Chris Cornell and Soundgarden changed my life. I was a lost 12 year old angry kid that heard his voice for the first time and knew I wasn’t alone! Thanks for the video love. Please look into some Temple of the Dog or Audioslave. Both are great projects that Chris was devoted to. The audio track on Say Hello to heaven is arguably one of the most perfectly controlled vocal tracks in rock. I love your channel and wish I had been tuned into you guys earlier, keep giving us those real rock reactions, we love them!!!
This was a much better intro to Soundgarden than "Jesus Christ Pose." JCP is my favorite Soundgarden song, but you don't really appreciate it until you hear "Outshined", "Fell on Black Days" and "Black Hole Sun" to get a sense of how broad the band is.
This was Soundgardens breakout song. To me, Soundgarden and Alice In Chains were the best bands to come out of Seattle.
They were def the most talented musically and vocally but I think it's hard to say who had the best songwriting.

Damn, I just mentioned this song too, then scrolled down and saw your comment. Amazing freakin song! 🤘
Say Hello to Heaven or Reach Down
That sound you're hearing is "distortion." From the grunge era along with Nirvana, Alice in Chains, etc. Another great Chris Cornell group is Audioslave. A good song by them is "Show Me How To Live." Its HOTT!! (Ryan voice) lol. Great review!!
RandyBonez did you ever give Temple of The Dog a listen?
lastofmygeneration I haven't, actually. To be honest, I didn't know he even had a third group until after he died. Any recommendations?
Rick Beato just made a video about this song and how it's structured. And what a rock god Cornell is. Check it out. It is in 7/4 time, which Rick breaks down the voice, the drums, bass, and guitars. It's perfect.
Seen so many beato videos haven't seen outshined yet. Gonna look it up next thanks.
@@richardgriego42 You are so welcome. Let me know if you have trouble finding it since he doesn't list the name of the song. I have it saved and can link it.
@@lilymcallister9751 I can’t find it
Yes!!! Finally!!! Great song, Great band!! R.I.P. Chris. This song is why music misses you everyday!
Chris Cornell was in another band called Audioslave. Try "Cochise" or "Show me how to live"
I really think 'Show Me How to Live' is the go-to.
They should do both
He was also in Temple of the Dog.
Gasoline
meledge55 isn’t that Velvet Revolver?
The drummer, Matt Cameron is known for changing up and using multiple time signatures in one song. Amazing drummer.
AGREED!
One of the best of his era... in any genre
A TRILLION TIMES YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! A HUGE influence on me...
YES! Thank you guys for giving them another chance. You made my night! Chris’ voice... swoon.
Check out “Would?” By Alice In Chains
Also they should check out "River of Deciet" -Mad Season... just cuz Layne Stanley was the SHIT!
Bean Bag On Ya Chin I agree with mad season, I was gonna say wake up for the vocal range, but it is a slower song
“Would” is one of my favorite AIC songs. That and “Man in the Box”.
The beats are incredible. That drummer is dope asf.
Bean Bag Pilot Yes!
"Wood" is an excellent song!! Layne's voice is really showcased in this one. The whole song is strong from beginning to end. One of my favorites for sure!!
*Soungarden - Rusty Cage* is a great one too, but i don't think you'll react to it soon :D
I appreciate the honesty. I was 15 and sober the first time I heard this. The hair on my arms stood straight up in the air and you could physically see the goose bumps on my arms! RIP THE GREAT CHRIS CORNELL! WE MISS YOU!
Kim Thayil is very underrated as a guitarist.
i saw Kim flick a lit cigarette butt like 20 feet up and bat it with his guitar neck into the audience without missing a lick. one of my favorite shows ever.
I so agree.
Amen brother, & Matt is also a highly underrated drummer.
Kim is a guitar god and nicest guy ever!
I love Kim Thayil
Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam once talked about going to see Soundgarden at some club and how they couldn't believe the amazing sound coming out of Chris Cornell's mouth! Unreal.
He actually performed with chris on this song live
This development brought some unique characteristics to the style:
* the power chord shape is very simple and easy move around the guitar neck, so it's often played in succession and with fast tempos
* The A power chord (also written A5) is composed by the notes (A, E) .
* It's so easy moving the power chord shape around that bands will often just play every note as a power chords for a fuller sound. A melody of B - D - D - E - E will often be played as B5 - D5 - D5 - E5 - E5 .
In summary, this is a rock guitar kind of technique. This kind of riff is used heavily (pun intended) by most metal bands and was the signature sound of Tony Iommi from Black Sabbath, he was the absolute master of the riff.
Also the dropped D tuning is part of what he’s hearing I believe. Hard not to feel the drop D rock riffs.
6:03 is so great lol. Ryan's over-joyed laughter when he hears something that he loves is tremendous.
He laughed because of how old fashioned these vocal parts are, but he hides it because of the vlog.
Dimius I suggested Love Hate Love... If they are love Cornell's vocals on this, that shit will blow then away.
Y’all would have liked Fell On Black Days as well. That’s another one that shows how soulful his voice was
You guys are a course in music appreciation. Keep on keepin on.
I am re-hearing songs that I've listened to for decades.
At 8:52 ...bingo! Yes Cornell met every dictionary definition of a soul singer, but with some extra. Yes he “left this earth” often, and the last time much too soon. Good analysis of the meaning of California/Minnesota. All too true in his case.
I was reading this and it happened
I knew you guy's would love this... Now you HAVE to react to Show Me How to Live - Audioslave (Chris Cornell also)
Seriously Guy's you will absolutely love Show me how to Live..!!! among some other Audioslave tracks. Like A Stone, Be Yourself, I am the Highway, Cochise.
Don't forget the fact that the rest of the band is comprised of Rage Against the Machine's musicians.
I just recently became aware of that, My buddy turned me on to Audioslave several years ago, I was instantly a fan.
Also Set if off!
That’s the grunge sound!! rusty cage and spoon man are great as well.
It is the grunge sound to me too. It is 80% sabbath and 20% punk inspired
Spoon man. Yes
I've always liked rusty cage the best...
Definitely a grunge sound but also similar to sludge metal.
Like those "long" riffs? Black Sabbath's Sweet Leaf
Man they'd love Sweet leaf.
Sleep - Dopesmoker lol.
That riff is one of Tony's best
Snowblind
A-freaking-men!!!!
I’ve seen this video many times, your guy’s genuine reaction is why I come back to it. I’m wanting to educate you more on expanding your catalog with Chris Cornell here’s a list.
For vocal power
Slaves And Bulldozers -Soundgarden
Beyond The Wheel -Soundgarden
Birth Ritual -Soundgarden
For vocal structure and range
Like A Stone -Audioslave
Say Hello 2 Heaven -Temple Of The Dog
Steel Rain -Chris Cornell
And for vocal creativity
The Day I Tried To Live -Soundgarden
Burden In My Hand -Soundgarden
When I’m Down -Chris Cornell
His voice really shines in “Say Hello to Heaven” by Temple of the Dog. You guys would love it, he put some soul into that song.
Alice In Chains - Would? [please]
Really enjoy your videos!
Yes please!!!!
AIC for sure needs a listen!
amen. I've been saying this since they did Rooster. The bass line in Would? would blow them away
I live on The Iron Range. It sucks.
Listen to Say Hello to Heaven. Chris Cornels vocal on that track is incredible.
TheMightyOdin Easily his best vocal performance. That song is pure, unbridled emotion. It's also even more poingant, and somewhat eerie, even, since Cornell's passing. Anyone reading this who hasn't heard it should check it out immediately, then, come back and upvote this suggestion.
My favorite vocal performance of his
mixtand138 I played the song a few times in the days following his death.
Soundgarden - Burden in my Hand
It's my favorite song for Chris Cornells vocals
From a pure metalhead, hellyeah we ride with Cornell, much like Stapleton, and Tupac, real recognizes real
dude hell fuckin yeah to all of them
Couldn’t have picked a better Soundgarden song in my opinion!
Barry B Absolutely agreed.
He ain't lyin'
Not my favorite, but one of them. Also a pretty good intro song to what the band is all about. Was discussing with a friend what song would have been better than "Jesus Christ Pose" since they seem to be so enamored with Alter Bridge, but didn't care for the Soundgarden song they initially listened to. Our picks were "Black Rain", "Outshined" and "Superunknown".
i prefer a few of their others but possibly the best intro to the 'Garden
Seriously. This is the best Soundgarden song to start someone out with.
YES!! This made me so happy. I've been requesting this song for so long. Lol Love the reaction guys, thank y'all so much!!❤️❤️❤️
Henry Rollins said Chris Cornell could peel paint off the walls. So true. Knowing how his life ended though makes this song so incredibly sad.
Right Turn is the most amazing thing ever recorded...............
You probably didn't notice, but the main riff is in an odd time signature. They integrated them so perfectly into their songs that you weren't put off by them
Yes, it's in 7/4. Still has a great groove.
:)
Yeah, you don't hear 7/4 on the radio all that often.
Only other song I can think of is pink floyd - money as far as 7/x time signature
They should listen to Rusty Cage, which is in 4/4 but sounds like odd time
i clicked on this video SO FAST !!
love your channel,; love this song.
I loved watching you guys listen to this 😂😂. Chris Cornell's vocal ability is amazing, happy you finally heard soundgarden.
Its so nice to see other female free thinkers commenting! Its usually a sausage party in here 😂
Temple of the Dog - Say Hello to Heaven. If you want Chris Cornell's range...this is your song...and it's heart wrenching.
Badmotorfinger is Soundgarden's best album. It is less "radio ready", but the songs were harder, heavier, and grungier.
Edward Hoffman We appear to be in the minority here (I always thought “Superunknown” is a tad overrated) but, I agree wholeheartedly, “Badmotorfinger” is straight awesome no chaser. Masterpiece.
No doubt - *BadMotorFinger* is their peak. *Superunknown* was more commercially successful, but this has got that dirty dirty…
'Slaves and Bulldozers'
Still prefer Superunknown but lucky we have both to listen to.
Okay, Chris Cornell probably had in the top 5 vocalists in rock ALL TIME! Try Audioslave: GASOLINE. Cornell's shrieks and the the great drummingmakes the ultimate jam. RIP Chris.. We still miss you!
"Gasoline" is definitely my favorite Audioslave tune! Great vocals of course, but that Dropped-B intro riff is what seals the deal for me!
Audioslave not good
yup gasoline is awesome
Just came here from your Cochise reaction. Love hearing your reactions to both of these. So dead on...."it sounds DIRTY"...lol. You hit the nail on the head! 🌸✌
If you ever do Soundgarden again, please do The day I tried to live. He sings his ass off in that song.
Burden in my hand 👍
My favorite Soundgarden song is "The Day I Tried to Live." Give it a shot...you're welcome.
One more time around :-(
Good choice, one of my favorites too.
don't forget other gem from the same album " A Room Thousand Years Wide " my favorite SG track
That was my favorite, too.......until I discovered "Slaves and Bulldozers'". And proceeded to lose my mind
Those are my two favorite SG songs, hands down.
You really wanna hear Chris belt it out, then go back to his Temple of the Dog days. Say Hello to Heaven is a great example of his vocal range.
I'm an old metal head, and Chris Cornell rocked the shit out of this....RIP.....
KamikazeSeatbelt not a lot of metalheads that ive met like soundgarden/grunge
It’s a 7/4 time signature
I have not been able to listen to Chris Cornell since his death. Thank you Gentlemen for honoring his memory and bringing me back a voice, talent and human being that brought so much happiness to all of his fans.
That happened to me as well, but I finally gave in and did it.
I feel the same. It's almost too soon, but I crave my Chris. It hurts though 💔
I guess I was different, I didn't wanna stop listening to his music after his death.
I’m looking California...feeling Minnesota.
What a great line! I've always loved it.
We all know that feeling
My favorite line in this song. It says everything.
I love that line, cause it's so true, smiling on the outside and falling apart inside. Keeping up appearances. Who can't relate that ?
Why did I just KNOW they were gonna pause in the middle of the coolest lyric ever?
My introduction to the mighty SOUNDGARDEN! I first heard this in 1992 and I instantly fell in love with the band. That riff you like so well, Ryan? It's all about the drop-D tuning, baby! ;)
Rusty Cage, Fell On Black Days, Superunknown, Black Hole Sun, Spoonman, The Day I Tried To Live, Pretty Noose, Blow Up The Outside World, Burden In My Hand, & Live To Rise - Soundgarden
YES! 🙌🏼
My Wave
Say hello to heaven will give you chills from Chris Cornell
Yep
That whole album
Awesome song
Yes!!!! Say Hello 2 Heaven is both lyrically & instrumentally genius. Based on a true story in tribute to his best friends, Andy Wood. He wrote the song (and Reach Down) to help him grieve his loss. 4 octave range showcased. Love you guys! So much fun!
When he talked about how special his voice was, this is the first song I thought...so beautiful, so much soul. He had an amazing voice.
Stone Temple Pilots - Dead and Bloated! its got those cords and sound u were talking about ;)
Absolutely right!
Joeyz Yes, Dead and Bloated is their best song in my opinion
Chris Cornell’s rendition of “Nothing Compares to You”, originally written by Prince and made famous by Sinead O’Conner is legit 100% unbelievable.
Check it out fellas🙌
Jason Berta He does a version of U2 " one " with Metallica " one " lyrics. Spooky AF!
Peace.
Midlife Crisis by Faith No More!
Terrible Crayon yes!!!!
Any track from "Angel Dust". Best album of all-time. I think my favorite is still "Land of Sunshine"
mrbungle60435 ABSOLUTELY.
I think Midlife is a great start for these guys. It's got a cool vibe to it that I think they'll get. But yeah, that album is phenomenal.
Audioslave like a stone... Great song!
or reminds me
Soundgarden > Audioslave
Or show me how to live
Be Yourself as well
Pokey Phillips no its terrible.
This and Rusty Cage are my favorite Soundgarden songs
7/4 time
"Outshined" was performed in drop D tuning. This song is in the key of D major. The verses are in , an unorthodox meter, common of some Soundgarden songs, such as "Spoonman", which is in 7/4, "Fell on Black Days", which is in 6/4, and "My Wave", which is in 5/4.
Type o Negative - Black no.1
Nick Drage Nick are you a christian woman??
RIP Chris. I Love Soundgarden. He has such an original/unique voice.
Would love to hear your reaction to Iron Maiden Wasted Years.
Choose a song that showcases all the band has to offer? Hmmmmmm...
TOOL - THE POT
marvelmaniac88 yes!!!!!!!!!! I've been asking for 2 months now!
Vicarious, the pot or jambi would send down the Tool path for sure
marvelmaniac88 I agree. You also can't go wrong with Vicarious or Jambi
Or sober
Not really
The sound is grunge. It's a dirty and low sound. I was lucky enough to see them twice, but I will always cherish the memories. Still one of my favorite bands, and Chris Cornell has (I won't use the past tense) one of the best voices in music. He did so much after Soundgarden as well. If you're going to keep giving them a listen, try "Room a Thousand Years Wide" and "Hands All Over". Such talented musicians period, all of them! R.I.P Chris Cornell. ✌❤
ROOM A THOUSAND YEARS WIDE...GREAT CHOICE!👑
@@badoocee1967 Love It! ✌❤
Yes early Soundgarden is choice ❤️
I’ve been on this planet for 47 years & have loved music for as long as I can remember ,I turned 21 in 1992 & was right in the middle of the last great rock revolution ,I love all kinds of music regardless of what genre it’s placed in,good music is just good music & I can tell you without a doubt that from 1989-94 Chris Cornell was the best singer on earth..listen to Temple of the Dog or Slaves & Bulldozers from this album if you don’t believe me
It was an awesome time to be a young 20 something! I was 24 in '92.
@@lisamarieva3514 Same here...24 in '92. Such a great time for rock music lovers/musicians etc.
Pig Ford yes SIR I am 45 and work in the music stores, from 1991 to 1999 and do I have stories.
Also Chris Cornell did a song on the album Temple of the Dog. listen to Say Hello to Heaven. that song doesn't jam like Outshined but his vocals will blow you away
Say Hello 2 Heaven was given to Temper of the Dog by Prince. He wrote it specifically for them. Killer song!
@@stevepulford216 ino Prince didn't write it. Chris Cornell wrote that song. Prince has written a lot of music but not Say Hello to Heaven.
Yup, you are correct. Why did I always think that?
I had mother love bone, Temple, sg, and pj cds growing up
YOUR REACTION AND APPRECIATION OF MUSIC REGARDLESS OF THE GENRE BRINGS A SMILE TO MY FACE. MUSIC TRULY IS THE GREAT COMMUNICATOR. KEEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
He just left earth…… that is the single greatest retort to anything about anything I’ve ever heard, love u guys
Another reason why 1991 was basically the pinnacle for heavy rock music. So many great albums in various rock sub-genres overlapping, released just months, sometimes weeks apart.
Metallica Black Album
Soundgarden Badmotorfinger
Ozzy No More Tears
Skid Row Slave to the Grind
What else?
Mike Vitale the early 90s were it man. Never truer than that time
Don’t forget Smashing Pumpkins Gish and RHCP Blood Sugar Sex Magic
AIC Sap also from 1991
Anthrax Attack of the killers Bs, & Bring the Noize with PE. Motley Crue Decade of Decadence. Death Human. Yeah ’91 was a fuckin loaded year
Chris Cornell had some amazing vocal performances. RUclips vote this up. Chris Cornell - Seasons
the taco waffle pretty much all songs Chris Cornell was apart of are just simply awesome
I'm looking California... but feeling Minnesota... Oh Yeahhhh.....
Jackpine Creed dig this tune. Personally I’m feeling Michigan.
Ha! Best line of the song!
@Jackpine Creed always loved that line!
Soundgarden was one of the most amazing bands I have ever seen live. Glad you guys appreciate their intensity and soul. They are legendary for sure.
I always liked "Burden in my hand"
My ultimate fave.....im lucky enough to play it Drop CGCGGE tune....WEIRD AS FUK
Hunger strike
He changed my life at 20, respect
This was a much better intro to Soundgarden than "Jesus Christ Pose." JCP is my favorite Soundgarden song, but you don't really appreciate it until you hear "Outshined", "Fell on Black Days" and "Black Hole Sun" to get a sense of how broad the band is.
good point. and thats my fav song of theirs too
Spoon man as well
“Burden in my hand” will grip you in the first 2 seconds and never let you go
❤❤❤
Great song
