Hello everyone, coming back at ya with a brief look into just what goes into making a pair of lovely blue butterfly earrings. These earrings are VERY pretty and unique, only 4 left of their kind!
They are made from Polymer clay canning technique that puts colored clay into a loaf or "log" which can then be sliced for exact images every slice! This was the last of my blue butterfly cane I had, most of it being used on experimentation and other crafts... but as you can see in the very end of this video I have made a NEW butterfly cane, this time Lavender! I'll talk more on that in a upcoming video. I didn't film that btw, but I did take several photos, but worry not. I actually forgot how to make a butterfly cane and had to follow my own tutorial! It worked out perfectly!
Here is a 30 minute video on how to make a butterfly cane:
    • DIY Butterflies - Poly...
I use the 100 grit sandpaper first because it cut fast! This allows me to get the overall thickness where it needs to be for each earring, then I move to 220 grit to take out those heavy scratches left behind from the 100 grit. The I finish with 400 grit to take all the scratches out leaving it slightly hazy, but perfect for the sealant I use which makes it look like glass. I will show more on this process if it's asked much in the future
I'd say about a hour, or near to it, goes into making just one set of earrings. This was my second batch so I noticed it gets a little easier as I do it more, like most things in life. this is the last of the blue earrings but lavender is coming soon! I thank any who wishes to have a set of their own as the support is very much appreciated! Aside from that I really do thank you for taking the time to watch this video and for reading this, it means so much!

Thank I appreciate you letting me know! Means a lot.. There's a couple things I still could share, like how I get all the earrings the same thickness for example, perhaps later down the road I'll show that too :D Thanks again!

Ya sorry about that... getting settled into new home took a while but then I had lighting issues! Grrr.. I'll be doing a video on it actually as an effort to help anyone who encounters the same problems. Thanks for being patient :D

Love those and so nice to see you again!! I need to resurrect my NettyPreat Etsy store as well. Working on it... at least in my head. :p I need to get out of my head though. *laughs* My only thing with the earrings is how they were placed on the wires. For me I would like them upright with the triangle point going towards my neck. Kind of like I sprouted little butterfly wings on each side of my head. I hope that makes sense. :p Very nice model too. ;)
I am more excited about getting downtown as this new place opened up late last month. It is for local artists and craftspeople. Musicians too etc. Whatever. They also have poetry readings and so on. It is part gathering place for local creative types and also part gallery/shop so maybe I will have some of my creations there... we will see. I want to know what their terms are first. See if there are any catches I don't agree with. Even if I don't put anything there though I can meet other like minded people in my area there. :D

Hi there Heidi! It has been quite some time getting settled into new home, for the first part... then... lighting issues! LOL it's always something it seems hehe Have you considered uploading a quick look at some of your creations to RUclips or something? I'd check them out, curious.
It took me a minute to figure out what you meant as far as positioning, but then i got it. It's very interesting to me btw thanks for the feedback! These butterflies are actually cut in half right down the middle though... (see the opening presentation) so a flat edge would actually be touching your neck. However, what you are saying is still a good point because they do hang with the corner touching the neck more or less (or pointing towards it at least) and could possibly be re-positioned in such a way to where they really were sprouting from the neck! (flat edge pointing towards neck) I'll try experimenting with a couple of the Lavender earrings in fact (making some tonight) ....I'm thinking the position of the finding should be shifted "slightly" outwards.. hmmm... It'll be trail and error until the balancing is correct enough for them to orientate like this. But I LIKE it! Thank you! Like I mentioned I'm building more tonight so reading this couldn't have been better timing!! Definitely worth a try
I've always loved the idea how displaying some of my work somewhere (and actually found a place) but they wanted a commission for the space being used, which is understandable. But not practicable for me at the time.. also, aside for earrings, I have nothing really to show LOL I also like the idea that I could leave my business card there too! THAT would be priceless being it could potentially bring new viewers to this channel!! Perhaps one day though. Sorry for typing so much lol xD

I do upload pictures of things I make most often to Instagram though I do have a creative RUclips channel it is seriously inactive. Both can found by the ID NettyPreat. :D Not always case sensitive. :p
I wouldn't care if it touched my neck. I guess some people might but not me. :D
I never though about displaying my work anywhere really like I may at this studio thing. Like I said it all depends on their terms so I can understand you not accepting that place you mentioned. I am a struggling artist still and can't afford to pay a lot up front or lose massive amounts of profit from my creations. Maybe someday. I bet I could leave my business card at this local place though or at the very least hand it out if asked while hanging out there. :) I live too isolated from people and should get out more. :P
