I can relate. It's funny how age and physical ability make you adjust your choices here and there. Lifting large planters and pots made with heavy materials would be impossible for me too. And most of those unique thrift store finds are not so populair to use in kitchens anymore because they used to belong to sets that are now incomplete etc. So might as well use them as a nice trinket dish :)
Btw if you keep your wooden utensils oiled properly like you would a wooden cutting board with a food safe mineral oil or whatever, you can keep them basically forever even the cheap ikea ones
Or…you toss them in the dishwasher and replace them when they splinter. I bought dollar tree wood utensils, they have lasted through my abusive treatment and I’ve had them for years.
We have a great, huge 100% cotton black and white woven throw from ikea we use as an extra blanket on the bed in the winter. I’ve washed it plenty of times and it’s held up wonderfully. Their textiles are SO hit and miss but there are some real gems there every once in a while.
We have a whole set of mixed blue and beige plates and bowls, and it's been more than two years - not a dent or scratch in them! Super happy with the Gladelig 😁
Those caught my eye. Although blue was my favorite color when I was young, lately I'm not normally a fan. While there's none in my home I find those are speaking to me and I may just have to change that.
I too have a few of the blue dishes and love them. If I could justify it I would replace all my plates and bowls with these but it’s hard to justify the cost of replacing the perfectly functional, but mismatched, plates and bowls and serving dishes I have now.
It's not a decorating item, but the Vardefull potato peeler is a spectacular inexpensive item from Ikea. It's the best peeler I've ever had, and It's also a very nice looking item.
I have the green version of that throw and it feels sooooo freakin good. soft to touch, gets me nicely warm if gets a bit cold, and during summer i just use it one layer and it doesn’t feel hot
I just love your personality and sense of humor so damn much! I could listen to/watch your videos all day and would never get sick of you! Great style as well! You’re just awesome!
IKEA koncis baking pans are one of our favorite things. They’re very handy because of the small size. Meaning you can use them in smaller toaster ovens. My husband uses them to grab whatever he’s cooking on the grill. I can’t even express it to the fullest extent…they’re just the best. You don’t always want to deal with and wash giant baking pans. Especially if you’re just cooking for one or two people.
I have that Ikea spice rack, three of them actually, and initially we did use them for spices because we had a tiny kitchen and desperately needed more storage space. After we moved we used them in a bathroom because it didn't have much in the way of storage. It's a nice way to have easy access to the stuff I use every single day without leaving them on the bathroom countertop.
4:34 - 4:46 sounds awfully like the famous William Morris quote: "Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful." Classic thinking Nick, and so true.

Would love a video on *how* to use different styles of lamps and achieve different lighting effects! When I look at the lighting section, I have a hard time imagining how I would use them
Regarding the terracotta plant pots: terracotta works different for the plants (it makes the soil dry out faster), so terracotta vs plastic is usually more of a functional difference. I love the look of terracotta, but it is just not practical
Just treat the inside with sodium silicate aka water glass! Old tip, non toxic, very easy! It'll make the inside of your terracotta pots waterproof, and you can also use it for repairs!
I absolutely love that you always lean into quality. You don’t want plastic junk, or things that look like wood and are not. It’s seems kind of rare now to enjoy quality items, and I appreciate that about your videos! Also, your enjoyment of real wood and real stone! Thank you for that!
Just a note about terracotta pots - get a smaller plastic pot for inside of it! If you pot a plant directly into it, it will need a LOT of water because the material saps out a ton of water from the soil.
@@dianacoles1017 You’re fine to keep them potted in there! Repotting might end up more stressful for them. but just keep an eye and make sure you are watering them enough!
I like the spice rack. We have a tree service business. My arborist husband will sometimes take down a tree that has beautiful grain. We give rounds to woodworkers and we’ve had a few make is spoons and bowls. My favorite is a ladle made of black walnut. I’ve also seen fairly decent wood kitchen tools at Trader Joes.
What I’ve learned from working in the interiors business for close to 30 years, is that if you’re not going to use it on the regular, don’t waste your money, time, and space something will take up. You’re just going to have to keep it clean. 🤷🏻♀️ In LA, throws were a waste but in NW Washington, they’re a must! Everything is relative. PS I bet Meghan has that throw and just pretends the H is for Harry not Hermes. 😂
Plastic storage containers are good for organizing kids stuff, easy to wash and sanitize. Super functional although not very pretty. Beautiful woven baskets won’t be so pretty with peanut butter encrusted in the weave. It’s nice for a kid free/pet free home though ❤ I like that nick is so realistic with his recommendations. Form follows function
Great video as always 🎉 the terracotta pots are vey easy to paint to change the colour, and for the wooden spoons boil them in a pot of water with half glass of vinegar, you’ll be surprised how good they come out
Hi Nick! Huge fan, your videos are the primary resource that has shaped my sense of interior design and how I approach the interior of my own home. It’s been fun learning how to design a space I love to live in! A request for you: could you do a video on a space feeling “finished” versus “cluttered”? I am having trouble determining the difference. I can’t tell if my space is visually engaging and interesting, or if it just feels cluttered. I constantly go back and forth, and I would love your insight. Thanks!
The glasses are pretty, but I need some that stack. They used to have some that had a small ledge to prevent them from sticking together. Sadly long gone. Now we stack the glasses with tiny Tupperware cups in between to keep them from sticking.
I’m really attracted to that blue serving platter! I like to keep plain dishes for daily stuff then collect fun serving platters to change out for the seasons and special occasions. It’s an easy and affordable way to showcase your style!
The vallkrassing throw is my absolute FAV. It's the only blanket I've ever purchased that my husband says he wants to buy more of. So soft and cozy, decently sized, looks nice, holds up well and so reasonably priced.
No joke! I use them for spring and fall yard cleanup. Because of the square structure and the wide opening they are so much easier to use than any yard bag and they clean up & store for next year so easily!
I was inspired by your admiration of that cotton throw. It did look very stylish yet comfy, not a combo frequently seen. I went to the IKEA website to get more info on the throw and possibly purchase one. Many of the reviews were positive, but a noticeable number were 1-2 star reviews complaining that the throws didn’t survive laundering, even when delicate wash cycle and low dryer heat were used. Actual holes appeared in the fabric after the first few laundering attempts. I decided to pass on the throw, but I did buy a set of the blue dishes. My current IKEA dishware has served me well for almost 10 years. Over that time, some pieces were broken during use (clutzy me) and others have collected chips. It’s time for a new set. Thank you for the tips!
Given that the throw is double guaze that makes sense. Would last okay I imagine in homes with expectations of light double weave, but if you thought it has the durability of other thicker fabric throws, nope not it's jam.
Thanks Nick!! And that "H" throw you mentioned is big time overrated. IMO, I wouldn't even have it as part of my aesthetics if it were given to me for free.
@@gloriaalex11 And the maker of it is laughing all the way to the bank over the stupidity of people buying and paying that outrageous price for a throw with a letter on it!
Hey Nick, I love your videos. Tough I'm confused now with the first item on the list: didn't you say that transferring stuff from their original containers to visually pleasing is a trend that has to go? Why not just keep oil and vinegar in original bottles then?
We have five of those items. My favourite is those plates and bowls. Good quality, looks good and the bowls come in different sizes for different uses.
As a Swede, that you even try to pronounce those words is a award winning effort to me. You are doing a great job. We love our IKEA and the fact you can make daily living affordable, and it works. Yes ! Love me some good IKEA finds. I have the gladelig dishes in blue and the brunbar terracotta pots. Terracotta pots help the roots breathe since it is porous and specially helps if you water heavy handily like moi 😅
There's a thing called "spoon butter" that you can buy or make, to oil your wooden spoons to seal them, and then (like wooden cutting boards etc) they will last for years and years.

We have a great, huge 100% cotton black and white woven throw from ikea we use as an extra blanket on the bed in the winter. I’ve washed it plenty of times and it’s held up wonderfully. Their textiles are SO hit and miss but there are some real gems there every once in a while.
My mom uses a soap dish in the kitchen for her rings. She takes them off when cooking or doing dishes 😊. ❤your videos
Good idea
I have those blue dishes! We just remodeled our kitchen and wanted new dishes. And that’s what we picked. They are really beautiful.
Wooden spoons over plastic any time!! Let’s save the earth one spoon at a time!
😂
It's not a decorating item, but the Vardefull potato peeler is a spectacular inexpensive item from Ikea. It's the best peeler I've ever had, and It's also a very nice looking item.
For me it’s the apple corer/slicer. I just don’t like biting into an apple.
Boom boom the Tom Ford book of throws, very Nickorific
I loved that! 😂
I have the green version of that throw and it feels sooooo freakin good. soft to touch, gets me nicely warm if gets a bit cold, and during summer i just use it one layer and it doesn’t feel hot
Terracotta has been used for tens of thousands of years, a true classic
You should make videos reacting to celebrity homes, especially the bad ones
The solid wood IKEA items are SO long lasting, I have inherited coffee and side tables from The 80s that are still kicking. They age nicely.
4:34 - 4:46 sounds awfully like the famous William Morris quote: "Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful."
Classic thinking Nick, and so true.
100% agree with details make a massive difference. I spent more than 5$ for my new vintage look wall mount soap dispenser, but it’s so unique and just makes me happy.
I love seeing that Nick is human and forgot to fluff his pillows ❤
Take a shot whenever Nick says “you know what I mean?” ❤
Would love a video on *how* to use different styles of lamps and achieve different lighting effects! When I look at the lighting section, I have a hard time imagining how I would use them
Regarding the terracotta plant pots: terracotta works different for the plants (it makes the soil dry out faster), so terracotta vs plastic is usually more of a functional difference. I love the look of terracotta, but it is just not practical
I have put a plastic pot in a Terra Cota pot, and it works great when pots need to be moved
I think they'd work well for those who tend to over water.
@@nuthinbutlove yes. People tend to either love terracotta or hate it...
The butchery of IKEA names is always entertaining 🤣
😁
"Maybe that's not how bacteria works." You are so entertaining. Love you❤
Just a note about terracotta pots - get a smaller plastic pot for inside of it! If you pot a plant directly into it, it will need a LOT of water because the material saps out a ton of water from the soil.
Wish I'd read this before I repotted a load of plants!
@@dianacoles1017 You’re fine to keep them potted in there! Repotting might end up more stressful for them. but just keep an eye and make sure you are watering them enough!
Paint the inside with clear estapol (spray is best) …. this seals the clay and retains water
I love that your kitchen lights are the same hue as your table lamp - you do indeed practice what you preach 😅
Great video as always 🎉 the terracotta pots are vey easy to paint to change the colour, and for the wooden spoons boil them in a pot of water with half glass of vinegar, you’ll be surprised how good they come out
I can finally join the ranks and say that I am watching Nick's video while cooking in actual Tuscan farmhouse kitchen.
You must be at your parents house for the holiday!!!
😅😅😅 I thought it was a funny joke, please ignore me. 😅😅😅
@@Ohwhale79🤗
@@Ohwhale79 I wish 😄, at least the cooking would have been good

“Jute, drink up”, and then he continues talking without missing a beat. I love you Nick, too funny and clever! ❤
"I won't stop you and I don't IKEA will either" lol I just love you, Nick! 😊
"ya know what I mean" would be a good phrase for a drinking game - if one wants to become intoxicated quickly.
I’m really attracted to that blue serving platter! I like to keep plain dishes for daily stuff then collect fun serving platters to change out for the seasons and special occasions. It’s an easy and affordable way to showcase your style!
Jute, jute, jute🍸I enjoy your videos so much, Nick.
I may have said this before but I love how matter of fact Nick is and now to add to it how NOT vulgar his taste in everything is.
Drinking game for today with the word Cute.
The vallkrassing throw is my absolute FAV. It's the only blanket I've ever purchased that my husband says he wants to buy more of. So soft and cozy, decently sized, looks nice, holds up well and so reasonably priced.
You are so entertaining Nick. You need your own TV show! Favourite RUclips channel by far. Who knew a video about IKEA would be such fun!
For states that have banned plastic bags… the big blue IKEA bags!
Holds everything and more
Love those! I always pick up a handful when I go. They’re super handy for laundry as well.
100%
No joke! I use them for spring and fall yard cleanup. Because of the square structure and the wide opening they are so much easier to use than any yard bag and they clean up & store for next year so easily!
They truly the most versatile reusable bag out there. And so damn cheap!
The IKEA dishes remind me of the Fiesta Ware dishes my Grandparents had.
lol i use corelle wear for daily use ;)
For an encore? Expect Nick to suggest the Ikea toothpick - perfectly shaped, exquisitely priced, looks delicate in bright or dim decor. 😂
I've had the Ekoln soap dish and toothbrush holder for over five years? It's simple and elegant. It works with many styles. Great video.
I smile at the pronunciation of the products, on the various IKEA channels 😊
Thanks Nick!! And that "H" throw you mentioned is big time overrated. IMO, I wouldn't even have it as part of my aesthetics if it were given to me for free.
Yes! That throw is obnoxious. Only one letter, but still counts as Word Art.
@@gloriaalex11 And the maker of it is laughing all the way to the bank over the stupidity of people buying and paying that outrageous price for a throw with a letter on it!
😂 I completely agree
Hey Nick, I love your videos. Tough I'm confused now with the first item on the list: didn't you say that transferring stuff from their original containers to visually pleasing is a trend that has to go? Why not just keep oil and vinegar in original bottles then?
We have five of those items. My favourite is those plates and bowls. Good quality, looks good and the bowls come in different sizes for different uses.
“The Hermès throw is the Tom Ford book of throws.” Spot on, and a classic “Nickism” (as I call these epic Nick quotes). This is why I love you!
As a Swede, that you even try to pronounce those words is a award winning effort to me. You are doing a great job. We love our IKEA and the fact you can make daily living affordable, and it works. Crash a plate and you go just, meh.. By a new for a few bucks. Those throws are amazing, just saying. Thanx for sharing as usual!
Oh Nick. Being too honest is why I love you so much. What a wonderful person you are. Watching you gives me much joy. ❤
Can you please do a video on rugs? And what to do when they smell, like some of the ones from Amazon.
Generally speaking I self-identify proudly as a clean freak, but you so busted me on the 25-year-old Hamburger Bacteria Wooden Spoon. In my defense, my mother-in-law's curry recipe doesn't taste the same if I don't use it. #cantproveitbutiknowitstrue
I don't think bacteria will survive on dry wood. And if they did they're probably good for you - give your immune system some homework. Or feed your gut biome. ,😃
@@lobstermash I like your take and I am going with that. It's the 'healthy choice' lol
FYI, Bekväm is the perfect size for cans of loose tea. I've been using a couple of these for my teas for a few years now.
I will play any drinking game you come up with-such a fun idea! These finds are hot tips. Apparently, it's Ikea's year-end, where they close the books on the last year. The sales are ON ~
The oil and vinegar dispensers need matching salt and pepper shakers, ive been meaning to get a new set.
He mentioned they have them
I was here for ikea under 30 and I stayed for the drinking game 😂
😂
“It’s the Tom Ford book of throws”
That! 😆
Nick I needed to hear about those salt and pepper shakers and the oil and vinegar containers, thanks!!
Yes, I like those as well
I mean, if you're going to get a felt throw you may as well go all in and snuggle up under your jute rug XD
Yes ! Love me some good IKEA finds. I have the gladelig dishes in blue and the brunbar terracotta pots. Terracotta pots help the roots breathe since it is porous and specially helps if you water heavy handily like moi 😅
I have them the gladelig dishes .. always get compliments
Nick was super playful in those ones, and I love the suggestions!
That throw is great, and since it’s all cotton, could be dyed any color!
I just bought the dish set. It’s really well made and priced perfectly!
There's a thing called "spoon butter" that you can buy or make, to oil your wooden spoons to seal them, and then (like wooden cutting boards etc) they will last for years and years.
I use the spice shelf for nail polish storage in my closet
Bekväm is exactly what I was looking for to store my daughter’s books next to the bed. They are currently lying on the nightstand and constant falling down. Also, she cannot reach them properly. The look in the picture with the cook books is what I am aiming for. Thanks for bringing this up!
Hi Nick. Love love love your videos. Can you please do a lighting video? I know you’ve done one in the past. But I would love new ideas on livingroom chandeliers, hallway lighting, dining room lighting. I swear everything on Pinterest is the paper ball pendant.
Hi Nick, I love that little soap dish on my night stand for my earrings and rings when I take them off at night.
That’s a really good idea! Thanks.
Thanks for another great video Nick! I heard half of it. I couldn’t stop looking at your sofa. I just want to fluff those slouchy cushions 😂 my dog loves to sit on top of the back cushions too
14:37 one can clean a wooden spoon by rubbing some soda power on, rince it with boiling water and dry in the preheated switched off oven
That last pendant lamp was beautiful, especially at that price point!
NIck, you are my all-time Hot Find! I am so glad you popped up in my feed a couple of years ago….i love your videos! You have a way with words!
