This was exceptionally funny, entertaining and informative, Bliss. I cannot tell you how many times I have had the experience you describe about Thanksgiving dinner in everyday life, so much so it’s actually annoying (at this juncture).
What is luxurious? Heirlooms? Something in scarce quantity? Something well crafted, something money cannot buy. But, it’s also subjective, imho. Once, at a museum, as a teenager I touched a Van Gogh self portrait. And yes, it was an astoundingly asinine thing to do, but, I realized at that moment if I were never to take the risk, I’d never have the memory of which I am somewhat ashamed of, but, again, I have the memory. And no, I wouldn’t suggest it to others as something to put on their “before I die” bucketlist.
    Luxury is waking up everyday.
I once had the luxury of wearing an antique fur coat in 1997 in Boston Commons where a jogger spat at me and cussed me out for wearing fur. I had the luxury and presence of mind to not get into fisticuffs over it.
Ooh and the dust bags sewn over the vintage purses held in a box - very tongue in cheek.
I would never wear it, but I could definitely appreciate it while looking at it. It almost seems more appropriate to stage at a museum in the wing of contemporary art.
And many moons ago, I used to walk the avenue and photograph the window displays of the super high end shops to later analyze what message if any was being conveyed.
Luxury is having a locket from a love that you had never let go, somewhere stashed in a shoe never worn, but only you know what a luxury it is to sometimes pull it out to look at. The flip side, knowing that was a place in time never to be returned to, but, the memory remains.
But find comfort in the thought that somewhere they breathe under the same moon. That perhaps one day, your eyes may meet again…
Although wiser and worn, will the sparkle still shine?
It’s rather subjective isn’t it? Luxury.
    To be continued.
Also, sorry it took me so long to get to this, I wanted to give it my full attention. You’re the best!

I appreciate you mentioning Hermes and their quality. I work for a leather supply company and we purchase leather hides from a tannery that is owned by Hermes and my boss has visited that tannery & has seen their bags being made by hand. It's the best when companies stay dedicated to the craft and quality of handmade. Keep up the killer work, Bliss.

Thanks for the work, Bliss. At this episode I understand why you would dedicate a series to Margiela. He’s a very good artist.
As a curator I totally hate the outdated ways of presenting items, I like to call that ‘glowing cabinets and boxes’. Those transparent exhibiting cubes with their theatrical lightings look like that in gallery halls. And if you see so many exhibitions as I do, those lifeless boxes and the ideas behind them will definitely make you feel gross.
But I like the debate of personal/community memories in the world of authority in art. It’s a strong force to push museums and galleries forward, from the mindset of glowing boxes to inclusion. Although it’s a very long way. The sense of intimacy is more quiet and more important than their loud slogans of diversity or minorities access. Most of the organisations still don’t realise.
Unfortunately I’m not good enough to curate a thing for Margiela (yet? I can dream.) But if I had the chance I’d definitely make a box for the box of the handbags.

thanks bliss, I’ve been working for lire than 2 years now on my brand and it incorporate a lot of complication in the way of making the clothes that sometimes i feel like « is this too much?? ». But its what I feel, and its so sad for me to think that my perception and the way im building this project is not as fast, simple and easy to sell as an other generic brand . But when I see the Martin series im like « wtf bryan, youre good at overthinking clothes cause you like to push it that far and no one will stop you! ». So thanks again bliss cause this series help my mental to be calmer. Peace from france

The Fur Wigs are often credited as a collaboration between the Maison and BLESS, a brand that kicked off soon after this collaboration and who are still doing amazing work. They currently have a year long show of interventions at KW in Berlin!

The Maison was really ahead of the curve by a decade where now an old archive piece or reworked band tee is what the youth want. What is more unique then something found by accident afterall.

Something I’ve noticed about the Maison’s use of fur is that it forces the wearer to identify with the animal the fur came from. In the original wigs, it is using the animals hair as your own, making you imagen yourself as that animal. It brings up many uncomfortable questions, like how would you feel if you were killed for a peace of fashion. The coats this time do it again, with the four sleeves. You can only fill up two of the sleeves yourself, but the four sleeves reminisce of the four legs of the animals killed to make this outfit. The memory of the animal is always there, in the two extra sleeves, how outfit isn’t “meant” for you, how the original animal could use it fully and you can’t.
I believe this is a larger statement by the Maison on the cruelty inherent to fur in clothing. Especially considering how all the fur is thrifted from old clothing.

Dear Bliss! I have a monthly budget to support some creators that I really value and whose content I love, but unfortunately I couldn't be giving 3 bucks a month to them. So I have joined and quit and rejoined your patreon a couple times - if you had a 1 dollar/€ version, I'd join permanently!
Of course 3 bucks is not that much, but If you think about having say 10 people you want to support for their content, one person's small budget might not be enough at the 3 dollar tier. So I'd ask you to consider a 1 USD option, I personally don't think you'd lose money, but open the patreon option to many more people that just can't do the 3 USD every month. Thanks for the cool vid :)

Running off what u said abt value of vintage/old items. White cotton on the bags are almost a metaphor for the value old things have, as if they need to be protected.
