      This is EXACTLY how I've felt watching this. Like from the first season you could kind of see things where you were like "Oh that's where it came from".

    18:46 i believe the 'self belt' is actually the knitted fabric rolling over from being cut, and what looks like a belt loop is the inside seam being exposed

    • @ColourHabitat
      @ColourHabitat 4 года назад +3

      Your right, indeed. It is unfinished seam. And ...actually It was a part of a three pieces of Turtle neck Sweater. The elbow has a curved part, just like the heel of a sock. The wide sleeve cuff can also be turned over. The wool is a bit itches, best to wear this with a thick mens shirt cotton. I've had this once.

    Holy SHIT what a good episode, my favorite margiela episode so far

  • @ColourHabitat
    @ColourHabitat 4 года назад +11

    The skirt your mention at 17:54 was actually a fraction of a three pieces of Turtle neck Sweater.( Top-Sleeves& Below section), I bough and wore this sweater back then (I was a slim young androgynous boy), It was made from a rough off-white wool. It looks like some one came with an idea to cut a whole sweater and make a different kind of new clothes ( a new life). The 3 pieces of turtle neck sweater was kept by a long white ribbon. Indeed, the best to wear this outfit with a white mens shirt.

    I didn’t know which about margiela’s work until i saw tabis for the first time before they got into trend again It was nothing like I’ve ever seen before I had no idea what to make of it other than it looked cool/other worldly and kinda nostalgic like the childhood movie Narnia. I believe that is the closest feeling that i could describe that would be similar to how people attending his fashion shows felt it’s kinda like seeing a new color or hearing a really good song for the first time. It makes you stop and question everything you’ve seen and that’s the power of his work! I’m a fashion designer as well and I really resonated with the deconstructed style I was doing that long before i even know of margiela it’s really inspiring to see his take and stories behind that! Love your video so informational thank you :)

    ik this video was posted 3 years ago, but the confetti in Margiela's FW 1991 reminded me of Jaquemus' "La Rafia" SS 23 show, with instead of the models themselves sprinkling confetti as in Margiela, the confetti was free falling onto the Jaquemus models.

    I cant help but to feel like this collection was the one where Martin was really hitting his stride. Maybe it was just better documented but like the pieces were all soooo goood! in other episodes Im like yeah that was good but this episodes Im just blown away that any of these pieces even existed. That sweater that looked torn apart (exploded) was phenomenal!

  • @Brian-ww6zb

    18:35 wasn’t the “skirt” and “exploding sweater” originally a mens sweatshirt that he cut up and decided to keep the ‘raw hem’ of? He used the abdomen part of that as the woman’s skirt

    • @Brian-ww6zb
      @Brian-ww6zb 4 года назад +1

      Because based off the silhouette and size of the sleeves and skirt, they would appear to be originally a mens garment just restructured (he rolled up the top so it would cinch at the waist, that way it wouldn’t fall off)

    • @BlissFoster
      @BlissFoster  4 года назад

    Was this the first collection that featured the 4 stitches so prominently? Or did they come in earlier collections/videos that I missed?

      The four stitches has been a thing since the first collection. Hard to see in the videos tho.
