Great shoes ! I've been using Asics Resolution since Resolution 6 in 2015 after I had rolled my ankle. I chose them for their stability fitted for a baseline player and I never stopped using them or rolled my ankle after this. I buy about one pair every 8-10 months and I play very frequently. I never had issues with the laces or tongue of the shoes either.

Been using the gel resolution line for almost 10 years now. Definitely the best shoe line for me. I've tried Nike, Wilson, and Adidas shoes with the barricade being the only one I've thought was almost as good. The gel res 4 was my favorite version of the shoe. My main issue has always been shredding through laces.

Mark, Asics are a very respectable company, they're in the same group with Onistuka Tiger. They also have bright color tennis shoes, they sponsored Djokovic, Swiatek, Monflis, and so many other great players both on ATP & WTA.

I jst got these shoes and tried them out for the first time on the court. I like them a lot so far. I TOTALLY agree abt the THIN laces. I also wish they would come out with an ALL black (sole included) or dark 2E variant with no lighter colored parts. Right now I only had the choice of the light blue ones. Hate this color but I needed new court shoes and these fit the best.

Lol Mark. Calls Asics a small company. Maybe by comparison to Nike and Adidas, but they've been around for so long and in the running world and other sports as well. Also lol'd that you called out De Minauar as their highlight sponsored player, not Djokovic.
Great review though. Not often people review products after putting in 200+ hours with them.

Love the Djokovic FF2 without the tongue, as if I’m wearing socks. The regular FF2 is good also. I found myself sliding well with FF2 on hard courts… until I strain my groin from sliding too much…

I currently own a pair of these shoes and they're amazing. I agree with the tongue break-in period and the laces being absolute garbage but it is, hands down, the best tennis shoe I've ever worn. However, there is one color that is very flashy. It's called Tokyo Sunrise Red, but other than that, Asics does keep it low-key.

I’m on my second pair of Asics Gel Resolution 8’s, very durable, maneuvers well when tied tight, injury prone only when laces loosen, which is pretty often. I’m going to look for sports laces like sir Mark just mentioned. I am a wide 2e, which these shoes come in. If did a review video, it would be very similar to this one with exception that the wide fitting fits me. Thanks Mark!

I've been using Asics Gel Res for the last couple of years. I probably won't be changing anytime soon. I agree the laces on the 8 were bad. I bought some non-slop laces and that fixed that problem. I didn't remember having any problem with the tongue so don't know what was up with that. BTW I am also flat footed and slightly wider than a D and they still fit a bit wide, but with the new strapping system they added, I can still get a snug fit by pulling the laces tighter.
As far as colors, you missed the 7's. There were "Koi" versions of the shoe. They looked cool. I had the red version.

The tongue feels funky at first because - I believe - the elastic cross band they’ve incorporated into the lacing. I found I needed to totally loosen the laces between uses and then snug them up when I play. And yeah, the laces are waaaay too long and don’t hold.

Longtime Gel Resolution / Barricade wearer. Nice breakdown here, Gel Res 8 is a great shoe. You’re 💯 right about the laces on the GR8 though. I pulled the laces out of my GR7s when I upgraded and continue to use them in the 8s. Stock laces in the GR8 are hot garbage.

  • @rich.e

I have a pair of these; they're pretty good and I can understand why people love them, although I've got others I prefer - shoes are a very personal thing, after all.
Like the Court FF2 I had, the fit is narrow and long. I have also experienced premature balding on sections of the sole so I was not blown away by the durability (on both models). I liked the comfort and response very much.
I also have a pair of Court Speed FF, which are more minimal and fit me better but don't have the support of the more burly Gel Res 8 and Court FF2.

Great review Mark. I follow you since your rant against online retailer I won’t name here. Bought a pair a few months ago. I wore Adidas for most of my tennis career (50 now). I probably tried all iterations of Barricades and still have the Novak edition just before he switched to ASICS, hence my thought of trying ASICS. I had to go with a larger width (E) since the normal width was tight. Apart from that, I like them. Good balance between stability, cushioning and quickness. I also like that they are subtle in terms of looks as you said in your review. Nikes are way too flashy and weird for me. Keep up the good work.

Been wearing the Gel Res since model 4. Best show I've ever worn. Except for the 7 that was, I thought, too narrow as a correction to the 6 that had some heel box looseness. As for style their best one was the gel res 6 in Indigo and Merlot; bestest ever!!!!! Asics reversed the colors on the left and right shoe, way cool! They did used to be slightly cheaper relative to the top level market. They are now more on par with competitors top line shoes so I wait for sales!!!! But I agree with Mark they are a GREAT shoe.

Good video Mate. One question though how is the size watches tons of videos none spoke about how the size and fit is. I use adidas 42.5 got the Nike Vapor NXT same size which is big for me and the heal slips out. And it is one horrible shoe. And does this shoe stress on joints. I just recovered from knee injury. They are the number one tennis shoe for a good reason. Just sad that they keep replacing the colors often, so you either have to buy it when they arrive in that color or else you have to wait for the next color.

I have two versions in two colours. One for hard court and one for clay. They're the best shoes I've tried so far - as you say, no break in time. I have narrow high arch feet.
When you say heel slippage, do you mean lateral or vertical?
I had some vertical slippage but if you the the laces well it's not a problem. Speaking of laces I replaced mine with wider thicker ones as the laces that come with the shoe dig into your foot and are a bit uncomfortable. Wider laces distribute the tension.

  • @info781

If you have foot problems, general foot discomfort, Asics Gel resolution is the way to go. A gel is never going to be precise when stopping as a non-gel shoe, so many will not like them, especially compared to Nike's which are very precise. I have been using them since the Gel resolution 5's .

Been wearing asics since ankle surgery great stable shoe. Switched because of custom inlays that gave me uncomfort because of a strap in the lacing towards the toe of the shoe also the heel cup isn't really holding the heel in certainly if you use custom inlays. Now wearing the solution speed ff. Which are a better fit in these area's. I am hoping asics will implement their carbon technology into the tennis shoes as they have done with the running shoes. I like to have the same advantage of energy return the running shoes have.

What?! ASICS gel used to have the loudest colors…or it’s the heavily discounted ones I bought? I went from the Barricade (built like a tank but hurts my feet after the initial honeymoon) to several generations of the Gel Resolutions (like walking on clouds). The version 6 to 7 were really high to the ground & slippery soles… I switched to the FF & now FF2 so it’s my favorite ASICS model. You need to try the FF2 Djokovic version that’s like a sock & without tongue, if you can slip your foot in as if you’re putting on the ski boots.

I’ve always wanted crew socks for tennis that unlike the normal Nike crew socks, don’t go up all the way to my mid calf & make it look like I’m wearing stockings. Did you size down on the socks to get an appropriate, lower fit, or would you recommend buying the normal size (US9.5 in my case) to have the best length?

Look at most reviews and you'll see that those who have had previous versions of the Gel Res 8 hate this shoe. They changed the flexation point by moving it forward and destroyed what made all the previous version of this shoe so loved. some hated the 6 & 7 version saying that the toe box was too narrow of which I can see that being true if you have a wide foot but for me they really worked. Now they've gone too wide and it does not give the support that the previous versions did. So flexation and toe box ruined this shoe from what was always a 5 star shoe in all ratings to now a 3.5 rated shoe by real customers. How I long for the Gel Res. 7 and waiting for the day they revert back with the 9. Until then I have ordered a pair of Court FF and hope for a happier pair of feet!

Great fit for wide feet but it's not my favorite. It's a little stiff and the rubberized upped has a popping snappy noise and feel. I have a pair in rotation with Head Revolt Evo2. The heads are heavy like the asics but so much more plush and have less than a half hour to break in. My biggest gripe with the asics gripped the court too much. I've fallen twice in 2 months from not being able to get my foot off the court. 160$ shoe 1c shoe string and in 2e they are just barely wide enough.i think I'll just load up on closeout and see if I can find some deals!

I like how u forgot the word 'logo" and instead your brain said "simple and line curved signature". So much low key comedy in your reviews! 😆

    Small company...?
Asics have been a staple brand for decades & for some time, here at least, it was the only decent brand readily available for probably a decade. To buy Nike or Adidas shoes online wasn't worth it for so long because of the ridiculous price tags they carried along with the costs of getting those sorts of named brands into the country.
This years range of Asics shoes however... are just horrific looking. What are the designers even doing?

How is Asics a small company from Japan. I see more people wearing Asics than Nike.
Also i really dont like Nike, nike make some ugly and basic designs and have no idea how to match colours. You can see nike player wearing a purple shirt with green accents combined with tqn coloured shorts and then bright white socks with lime green shoes with orange on it. I know Americans like Nike but is it becoming less popular.
My premier league club is sponsored by Nike and i really hate Nike.
Also the world cup nike kits ARE ALL THE SAME, they change the colours thats it

Why do Americans have such a hard time pronouncing Japanese brands? They say Ay six instead of Asics (ass-icks with no pause) and Nissan(Niss-an with no pause) they get wrong by saying Nee Sun.
