  • ASICS Gel Resolution 9 vs Court FF 3 #review #tennis
I've recently been on a very exciting trip to Marbella for the ASICS Tennis Summit where I got to test out ASICS's brand new shoes, the Gel Resolution 9's and Court FF3's!!
Both shoes come out on January 1st 2023.
In this video I talk through their features and tell you what I thought of them.
If you missed my voog of the trip, you can watch it here:

My resolution 8 started to tear apart in the front top joints after just a couple months which was pretty sad as they are quite expensive here in my country. I've asked around and other club players faced same issue. I had one Asics Challenger years back, I think 2018-2019, and apart from the sole the overall state of the shoe was pretty good. So, I think the quality of the material/technology has been dropped substantially. Not sure if this issue is solved in this version but I'm thinking changing brand.

All brands have 1 bad shoe year (when they try to change something and don’t go as planned) that doesn’t mean the model or the brand are doing wrong, try again and you’ll see, sometimes the same model but with different lot last more.

What sort of shoe is better for someone overweight? I would imagine a lot of the speedy properties of the ff3 would be lost on me anyways and maybe I should just settle for the support of the gel res. Not fat, just not your typical skinny tennis player. Lots of lifting and stuff

Tbh for us normal people I'd prefer it if they focused on shoes that fit different shapes of foot more than having lots of pretty similar shoes for the same foot shape. For example all the expensive asics have the same plastic bit on the side that for my foot shape is painful. Fitting the shoe to your foot is a big thing in other sports.

So they kept that ’strap’ on the bottom part of the laces for the resolutions. I didn’t like it on the 8’s since it was really difficult to put the shoes on. In addition, it also pressed and obstructed the blood circulation during play. Eventually I had to cut it off and they became much more comfortable. I have wide feet but not that wide. My son had the 8’s too when he was 10 and he had the same problem so we applied the same solution.

1.- in other review video, they mentioned the FF# Novak model is narrower than the normal model FF3 court which is no named Novak model, like the one you have in the video, is this true?
2,. Does FF3 court is the same size as FF2 court? some time when they change of models with new version you have to go up or down half a size, is this the case? that means if I use FF2 court size 10, I will be also size 10 on FF3?

For Pickleball which shoe do you think is best? The Resolution 9 or the FF3?
I tried on the Resolution 9 in a store yesterday. I tried my size 9 and it felt snug, so i tried a 9 1/2 and at first it felt more comfortable but i noticed it was not so comfortable when i pretended i was on a court and made quick side steps and front to back movements because the cushioning around my metatarsal was not on the cushion properly. I went back to the size 9 and appreciated the cushioning was in the right spot. The size was snug...maybe properly so.
I had tried other brands the store had including another Asics model and without a doubt compared to the shoes i tried the Resolution 9 support was certainly evident. I had played tennis but a begginer at Pickleball. I am a healthy senior. Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

My main beef with the cout ff is the mash of the socks upper it lets through all the sand and gravel like a crazy. Because the openness of the mash the sand and gravel collect between your feet. Being a tenniscoach working normal hours like 6 hours on average. Also that so called sock is only connected to the outershell making my specific problem even worse i can literally fill buckets of sand at home cleaning out these shoes. They cost me like 170 euros. I think on that part these shoes are seriously flawed.

How are both when it comes to areas that tends to be forgotten - serving and returning? I want to have a stable position when serving (I use a pinpoint stance), slightest wobble in the feet puts me off completely. The resolution 8 I have used were stable but I felt as if the heel area was somewhat lower than the front area, almost creating a feeling of the body leaning backwards. This in turn created a sensation of a need to push away more with the heels when lifting towards the ball. I have a good knee bend and generate a lot of power in my serve but that low heel sort of required more energy. Same feeling was experienced when returning. I am currently using the Nike Vapor React NXT and those feel the opposite way. They’re like a spring board at the same time as they are stable. The downside is the poor durability, difficult to put on the feet and the price.

The new Asics Court FF3 is not a big departure from the previous model. The shoes continues to be the standard for those all-court players who want to scramble in all directions and slide into their shots - like Djokovic who apparently helped design this new version. For that, these shoes continue to excel. The mono-sock design again engulfs your foot and the new lacing system does a better job of locking your foot in to the shoe. I thought the shoe felt more breathable than the previous version - so many of the complaints about the last version seem to have been addressed. I was hoping that Asics would improve the cushioning for the rest of us. While on court performance might be excellent, the shoe is quite firm underfoot. The new heel on this version - in particular - has nearly no cushion. After an hour of hitting in this shoe, my feet were throbbing, my knees were sore, and my hips ached. While these shoes might be great for Novak, they are not for everyone. The comfort level is sorely lacking. I guess these shoes were just designed for professional athletes without any joint issues. I was very disappointed.

You really should make it clear how much Asics as a company have invested in you when you are giving a "review". This is not a review.. its an Ad. You were paid in trips and clothing - and possibly actual money too. Either way, it needs to be disclosed

I know you’re a great coach Ashley but maybe a better salesman? - wouldn’t be surprised if you get an offer to sell other things too. The shoes are wonderful but bet they won’t be cheap and footwear that has 3 parts to the sole seems to me to be perhaps likely to fail- especially after some turning and twisting on hot artificial grass or hard courts. Novak won’t mind though as he probably has a new pair given to him at every event along with a massive endorsement fee!

Thanks for the great review, Ashley! It made me lean toward the Gel Resolutions. I was able to try on both in the NYC Asics shop and run around the store a little. I went with the Resolutions and have been super happy with my choice so far on-court!

Hi Ashley ! Thank you for this great video.
I'm hesitating between two models: FF3 and Resolution.
I'm 1.86 meters tall and weigh around 77 kg. I have a fairly versatile playing style (maybe a bit more on baseline).
I broke my ankle last year and had the joy of surgery. I'm afraid I might be less reactive with the Resolution.
Your advice would greatly help me.
    Thank you by advance

What did you decide on? I also broke my ankle/surgery 7 months ago while wearing my Babolat Mach 3’s. I’m terrified of another break….but want to play again. I’m looking at the Asics Gel Res 9 and the New Balance X CT.

Do the Resolution 9s fit true to size???
I had to go down a half size with the previous version 8.

Great video! I have had the Speed FF, Court FF2 and Gel Res 8 and the Speed FF was great and light and loved it. When i first wore the Court FF2, they did take a while to break in for me but i loved the sock and how stable the shoe was. Only gripe with them was the sole didnt last long as i do drag my feet and the shoe ventilation was poor, with my feet always ending up really drenched. The Gel Res 8 felt very uncomfortable for me initially, as my heel felt really high in the shoe. I didn't have any heel slippage, and it did take me a while to get comfortable with the shoe. The best thing about the Gel Res 8 was the sole, and the traction was on par with Court FF2, and not too sticky. The flyte foam comfort in the heel section was also great on hard courts. I have just purchased a pair of Speed FF2, and will be trying the Court FF3 soon once available here in Australia. I just hope the ventilation is improved.

Thanks for sharing this information, I’m sure it will be of value to some of the other viewers! Djokovic said the same about ventilation and he mentioned it was one of the things they changed, so should be an improvement for you! Thanks again for your comments!

@@TheTennisMentor very good video , I have a couple questions:
1.- in other review video, they mentioned the FF# Novak model is narrower than the normal model FF3 court which is no named Novak model, like the one you have in the video, is this true?
2,. Does FF3 court is the same size as FF2 court? some time when they change of models with new version you have to go up or down half a size, is this the case? that means if I use FF2 court size 10, I will be also size 10 on FF3?

Are you going to add Asics into your rotating shoes to get on court with? I know typically you're a big Adidas fan, as am I, however I am also an Asics fan now for the last few years (thanks to Novak) and I've incorporated both brands now into my playing, and often go through phases where I'll wear one brand pretty heavily every time I play for a period of some week's straight, or a month or so, and then hop to the other brand when I am feeling I want to change it up. :]

Now i am playing with Nike vapor but i am not completely satisfied of them. I change several shoes, I had one pair of Asics and i loved them. Now i want to buy good Asics shoes and I Hope to follow your advice. I really loved the video about tennis player xmas gifts and also your collaboration with felix. Have a good Christmas time!

Great video … I’ve been searching for this to better understand the characteristics. I’ve a repaired ACL so try to avoid too heavy a shoe. I’ve also narrow feet and play as much on clay as hard court … add to this that ASICS U.K. market GR9 and FF3 plus FF3 Clay … you didn’t seem to distinguish FF3 v FF3 Clay so I’m still a bit puzzled what’s best for me … thoughts?
    (& thank you)
