  • Hey sub family, Cerakote Trim Coat is a durable ceramic coating which bonds to the pores of unpainted plastic trim, & restoring it to its original appearance. But it doesn't stop there! Once applied, it cures to form a ceramic layer of protection. Which is false! They say it's guaranteed to last for at least 200 washes but it only lasted about three washes and then started fading a hazy white. I do not recommend you buy this product due to heartache. It's a pain to remove the ceramic coating. But with the steps I provided it should come straight off with some hardworkand dedication.
What you will need is a 200 Grit sandblock, 100 Grit sandblock, Meguiar's Headlight Coating, Bucket, 91% Alcohol, & microphybercloth.

This guy is telling the truth..I used this on my 1 year old car to protect the plastic cladding and immediately I noticed missed spots (even though I applied)...I reapplied this and then noticed areas of haziness and uneven application (again, I took my time and reapplied).
Now I am going through it removing it from my cladding. Will try the headlight spray once I'm sure it's all off. I'll keep what's left for any really bad trim on my wife's car since she doesn't care but this product made my trim worse, it had no issues before.

Fr, i just did my fj cruiser and it looks horrible, some parts look beautiful but most of it looks bad. I try the magic eraser with non acetone nail polish remover to remove as instructed but now my trim looks white dry 🤦🏻‍♀️

@@maritzaballin same I ended up putting some armor all on it for now and that made it look a little bit nourished I'm going to go back and hit it again before every car wash with the magic eraser and acetone and then continue to hit it with armor All until it's no longer looking white dry and then I'll use this headlight restore
Hopefully somebody else here can share what they did to fix this

I own a 20 year old Honda CRV that I bought used that looked like the trim had never been cared for so i watched some RUclips including Project Farm which recommended Cerakote and bought the box he is holding in his hand. I cleaned the trim carefully and thoroughly as recommended. It was surprising how much time that took but I was going to make this sucka look good! so I put the effort in. Then applied it and it did NOT even up the various shades of blacks and dark grays that oxidation and scrapes can create over the years. Applying it was disappointing as the cute little folded pads ran out pretty fast (yes probably due to dried out plastic that sucked a lot in) and I used 8/10 pads finishing it off. The results are consistent. Every variation I mentioned earlier is now on full display under a glossy ceramic coating that sure enough beads up beautifully when wet. Godfrey. I am too tired to unwind the project and start over but this is what I get for not spending even more time than I already do on RUclips. If I wasn’t a Premium member and had to watch commercials i would be in a psycho lockdown by now. When I do get around to stripping the Cerakote off I’m going to experiment with some black dyes until I get even results, then maybe tape off the trim and shoot it as recommended by this gentleman. I can imagine problems over time with that approach. Ah yes, the life of the do it and redo it and do it again - yourselfer, goes like this more than I’ll admit. If you saw my shop you would find duplicates of tools and extra parts and more tools that i will probably have to will to my heirs for them to ever get used again. Now that i think about it, doing it myself every chance i get has cost me a lot of time and money over the years…and that’s a thought I wish i hadn’t realized. Maybe when the SHTF everything I’ve learned will be of value, which i hope i never find out.

I made the mistake of using Cerakote on my hard plastic louvers. They looked perfect for a few months, then it started cracking and fading to white. It's been a nightmare trying to get it off. Sanding and scraping in between spraying Acetone. I'm about to give up and buy new louvers. I can't imagine putting that stuff on factory car parts. Reaching out to the company was useless too, they recommended trying pink nail polish remover. They also blamed me for applying it to a wet surface, which I did not.

Ceramics form a covalent bond to pourous trim regardless if it’s new or not. You can protect it from the start with proper prep and stay away from non-pourous smooth plastic, the ceramic molecules won’t fill in the microscopic peaks and valleys of pourous.

Hi mate, I agree with you. Just applied it to my brand-new car. It destroyed the plastic trim. They have a lot of positive review in Amazon, I was thinking they are fabricating those reviews so that you’ll get encouraged to buy it. Even RUclips reviews had a lot of positive reviews.
I should have believed you before I have applied it on my car. Good thing I didn’t applied it on all the plastic trims on my car.
Cerakote responded to my email, they told me it is not compatible for some plastic mouldings. They even told me this wasn’t compatible with brand-new car due to off gassing, but I find them really dishonest with this. As this was an ongoing issue for years. They just don’t care about their customers.
I was about to buy plastic trims but they are difficult to source and are expensive. I was also thinking of repainting it since the plastic window got melted due to their advice of removing the product with acetone and magic eraser.
I really regret putting this on my car. I honestly wasn’t able to sleep every night because of this damage. I was still paying of my car loan. This was stressful AF.

Hope you get more subscribers for your honest reviews, hopefully you remain the same. I only purchased Cerakote Ceramic Trim Coat due to positive RUclips reviews. Some RUclipsrs didn’t even gave an update of the quality of the product after many washes, I’m guessing they had the same issues.
My only recommendation for you is I hope you made a step by step guide on how you restore your plastic trim. Like how you sanded it down. Nonetheless, thanks for this video.

I used this garbage on a brand new set of fender flares I bought for my jeep (the old ones were faded badly) and it ruined the new ones. They have blotchy white spots all over them, brand new out of the box. This junk cost me $150 in ruined flares.
